They may really have a strong preference for c, for candidate c, but they say that persons not going to win, so lets ditch c for the moment and pick someone thats viable. Tv9s Forrest Saunders<\/a> is live at city hall this morning. Forrest, theyve been out there for a long time. Yes. These guys have been protesting since yesterday evening out in front of city hall. Their numbers were up around 18 but have since dwindled to 4. This all started on monday. Officers told a group of Homeless People<\/a> they had to take down tents and vacate a piece of City Property<\/a> near osborn park. Officers said they gave them about three days to pack up and leave because they were breaking the law. The Homeless Group<\/a> was frustrated by the removal. They took their issues tthe center of town starting this protest at city hall. One member of the group says he hopes to get a chance to talk with the mayor i hope so, i hope he does invite me in his office and ask him questions and well work together. The Police Department<\/a> says it gave information to this group on monday morning. They included information on shelter resources, camping sites and counseling resources. Police say with that information, they hope to get the people into permanent housing. So far, police have not removed anyone from the city hall steps. Members of the Homeless Group<\/a> say officers that have stopped by have been very kind and accommodatin g. They say theyll continue their protest for, as long as it takes. Cedar Rapids Police<\/a> responded to the one hundred block of kohawk street southwest around 10 last night. They are still investigating why she jumped. A waterloo couple and their infant child are hurt after a semitruck driver made a uturn through a median. Black hawk county Sheriff Deputies<\/a> responded to the intersection of highway 63 and Mount Vernon Road<\/a> north of waterloo around 6 oclock last night. 50yearold mark shaw was going northbound on the highway when he tried to make a uturn. Thats when the family in their car hit the semi truck. They were all taken to the hospital but are expected to be okay. In a tv9 followup this morning. Emergency responders took a pedestrian to uihc after a car hit him while he was crossing the street. This is now the second time a car has hit someone on the same road in waterloo in less than a week. The most recent incident happened just after one am yesterday when police say a man was walking across University Avenue<\/a> in the 4thousand block. Waterloo police say the man went to a local hospital, but when his conditioned worsened they had to by helicopter to iowa city. Police dont plan on charging the driver, but the investigation is ongoing. This comes just six days after terry harp died when she was crossing University Avenue<\/a> and a vehicle hit her. Harp was 59 years old and was crossing just four blocks from where this most recent pedestrian crash was. The driver will likely not face charges. Cedar Rapids Library<\/a> staff and supporters are already looking at how to tackle financial uncertainty. Voters said no to a tax levy to fund the buildings operations. Both the ladd and Downtown Library<\/a> will close one day a week. The buildings may also close earlier. Staff layoffs are also on the table. The Library Budget<\/a> is set through june of 2016. The Johnson County<\/a> absentee ballot board will meet today to decide how to proceed with a recount. About 40 soldiers from a support unit based in cedar rapids will soon deploy to afghanistan. The members are part of the 649th Regional Support<\/a> group. They will deploy for a year starting november 15th. While overseas, soldiers will be managing facilities and providing support as part of Operation Enduring<\/a> freedom. The 649th previously deployed in 2009 for a year. Drivers who get a parking ticket in cedar rapids will announced a rate increase, which takes effect january 1st. Not paying the meter will cost 10 dollars. One dubuque mans efforts for the same goal are getting some attention. During the lunch hour yesterday, anthony crier stood on the corner of eighth and main streets in dubuque holding a sign in favor of legalizing marijuana. Crier says some criticized his beliefs, while several others honked in support and flashed him a thumbs up. Ive had a lot of people come up and agree with me. Older people and young people. Last year, some iowa lawmakers tried to loosen iowas law that legalized medical cannabis. But the bill did not pass. A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against governor branstad for closing two state Mental Health<\/a> institutes this year. The head of the states largest Public Employees<\/a> union and 20 democratic lawmakers had filed the lawsuit. They claimed that branstad didnt have authority under the Mental Health<\/a> centers in Mount Pleasant<\/a> and clarinda. But a judge ruled that the governor can turn down financial suppt for the centers. Branstad said the facilities were not suited for modern Mental Health<\/a> care. One volunteer organization in dubuque is trying to honor veterans no matter where they live. A lot of veterans dont have the luxury of flying the American Flag<\/a> on their front porch. Thats because they are living in assisted living and nursing homes. Volunteers from the Veterans Freedom Center<\/a> presented each veteran resident at eagle pointe place in dubuque with a flag they can proudly display. I was very proud to serve in the service, to be able to stand up and not shy away from it and have the facilities to support our country.
