"20:58:54 "it was just a wonderful deal to have so many people just showing up asking if they could help " the national weather service predicts it will reach its crest around 1 this afternoon. we will continue to monitor this situation in elkader and in other towns. tv9's brea love will join this morning. in fayette county, emergency responders are preparing for the worst...if the water goes over the dike in elgin. in clermont, fast running water swept this porch away. fayette county sheriff marty fisher told kcrg tv9 that red cross volunteers have opened a shelter at the valley community school district in between clermont and elgin. the sheriff says neighbors and high school students were out placing sandbags in hopes of stopping any overflow. and remember, whenever you see the number for that is 319-365-9999. you can also send pictures and video to newsroom at kcrg.com the clayton county sheriff's office is closing several gravel roads in elgin due to flooding. parts of agate road... ...abbey rd... ...bugle rd... ...and chariot road are closed. these are all secondary gravel roads in northern clayton county along the turkey river. disaster proclamation for five northeast iowa counties. it's for flooding in allamakee, clayton, fayette, howard and winneshiek counties. these counties can now use state money to help with flooding response and recovery efforts. governor branstad and lieutenant governor kim reynolds will tour flood damage in winneshiek county today. they will be in freeport around 9:15. they will then head to the inwood ballroom in spillville around 10:15. and governor's visit to northeast iowa, as well as flood recovery efforts, on-air and online today. the chickasaw county sheriff says the man who died while swept away in the flooding was a 77-year-old man who lived near sumner. this area quickly flooded during the heavy rain early wednesday morning. deputies say albert gott managed to call authorities when the flash flooding washed his vehicle off county road v-56, or union avenue in northeast chickasaw county. but later deputies found his body north of from his car. the cedar rapids salvation army has set up in spillville to help flood victims. army staff working from the parking lot of the citizens savings bank have been serving hot meals. major paul logan told us some people just want someone to listen to them during this tough time.
