Says a hurdle for the project is the potatoes are a different color and taste a bit different than what people are used to. If you just give it to them and you dont say anything, theyll just see its a strange color and they wont adopt it. So you have to give them a reason, you have to say, this is what happens when your children suffer from vitamin a deficiency. These things go wrong with their health. But if variety, you can protect your family from that. bouis says when farmers get information they tend to switch. Though it does help that the biofortified crops will yield the same or sometimes better than the traditional crop. He estimates four million farm households are using biofortified crops now. Or about 20 million people. Our vision is that 1 billion people will be eating the biofortified crops in 2030. So Going Forward we have a huge job to scale up. Weve identified 32 countries. If we can food supply in those countries as biofortified, then we will have reached a billion people. Bouis says it takes about 10 years of work for a new variety to be distributed to farmers. I think hogs are going lower, im in the december soon, were at 44 right now i think youre going to see 35 by christmas. I just, theres too many hogs and now you have grain prices going up. As rick ritter reports, Health Officials now have new warning for those out on the water. A 67yearold man has died after his family says he contracted a flesheating bacteria on the eastern shore. For more than 30 years, mike funk spent countless hours on the waterbut a typical summer in ocean city ended in tragedy. It seemed surreal. I didnt know anything like this existed in waters in ocean city, said marcia funk, wife. The horror began sunday, september 11, as the funks were getting ready to head back to arizona for the winter. While packing up water with an open sore on his leg. By tuesday, the 67year old knew something was wrong. I said, whats the matter . he said, i dont feel good. Im throwing up, his wife said.
