"i think there's going to be a lot of talk about we got to get a new farm bill passed in 2017. preempt the 2018, fifth year of the 2014 grassley says there isn't enough time to get a farm bill done before farmers plant a crop next year.. saying any new bill would apply for 2018.... adding there is a need for urgency.. net farm income is down about 30 billion dollars since 2013.. ---- absentee ballots are now ready for eligible iowan beef producers to participate in a state beef checkoff referendum.. that decision will decide on if farmers should pay 50 cent per head to help the checkoff.. this reinstatement is in addition to the federal beef checkoff of a dola sent to the iowa department of agriculture.. which is responsible for beef checkoff votes.. producers interested should email or call.. you can find the information on w-w-w dot iowa agriculture dot gov. ---- corn was down a good deal yesterday... with a lot of on yield size.. or what bids will be.. "same story is what we're seeing in the cattle, we know we have large amounts of supplies, we know we have reasonable demand. but at the same time, until something significant changes we're really just going to be at mercy as to who showed up to work that day, prices have gone below the break even levels.. and there are still more worries about the number of hogs headed to market this fall.. a purdue university report says the numbers may me more than packer plants can handle.. the u-s-d-a september hog and pig report didn't help the situation as numbers are three percent higher this year.. animal numbers in the heaviest categories were up four percent.. and packer head counts are up eight percent.. however.. the u-s-d-a thinks slaughter numbers will ease by the end of the year.. two new slaughter processor operations are scheduled and michigan in 2017.. that would increase slaughter capacity by another six percent.. the packer margins.. though.. have been good with the squeeze in capacity.. ---- and that's all the time i have for the show today.. thanks for joining me on the agribusiness report.. ---- we'll post a video every day in the agriculture section of kcrg.com. i'm david geiger with the agribusiness report. trt oc: standard fishing you can walk away with almost nothing. on other days you can start out kayaking and go home with a nearly 40 pound fish. plan on a cool, windy day!
