Iowa senator Chuck Grassley is raising Major Concerns over a merger announced last year. Companies dow and Dupont Pioneer merging would create a multi billion dollar company. More in todays agribusiness report. But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning its. Agribusiness repodavid geiger. The dowdupont merger announced late last year is taking some heat from the Senate Judiciary committee. Chairman and iowa senator Chuck Grassley is raising alarms over the proposal to merge by Companies Dow and Dupont Pioneer. Hes possible hearings on the antitrust implications of the move. Saying the Judiciary Committee has an obligation to review the merger. The merge would create a 95 billion dollar company. Which would split into three separate companies. All selling as much as a fifth of the worlds pesticides and 40 percent of us corn and bean seeds. Grassley says that makes a huge concern because of a potential of reduced competition. Force layoffs. And the history right here in iowa. And they better take that into consideration. Because they merge, split into three companies. Make an Agricultural Seed company and then want to move all this out of iowa or even move the Corporate Headquarters out of iowa . No. That stuff should be in iowa. Grassley hintedede may be persuading Committee Members for a call for hearings, adding there are things can be embarrassing for the two firms if they are brought out in the cattlemens Beef Association had meetings last week with a guest terry duffy from the cme. And stakeholders were logging complaints of High Frequency trading, too much volatility, and locking limit too often. Over in the grains. January turned out to be a net positive. I talked to analyst dan hueber before the close about the end of the month rallies. I think as a whole were looking at what should be a positive month. Now granted, yesterday we seem to have lost a little bit of that glimmer. Im not saying were showing immediate signs of giving this up but might be pretty difficult to sustain much more strength now as we move into a new month. So theres kind of an old rule of thumb too that if you rally or break into the first week of a month you tend to kind of start unwinding those things very volatile trade here in the Cattle Market for the last several months. Personal bias though, the Cattle Market after breaking down here into mid month has rececped nicely. I like to think the worst of its the time being its going to be tough to i think post major gains there but when your really add up the whole picture here in the e Cattle Market. Yes we are starting to rebuild herds a little bit, but on the same token, you know the economy continues to grow, although not at a huge pace. I mean the employment numbers are good. All those things would generally say we can look for some decent beef demand. Hog market surprisingly stout continues to advance, now that said ive been kind of thinking were going to run this rally into just exhaustion. It looks like the epa cant vacate registration for Dow Agrosciences enlist duo herbicide right now. A Circuit Court denied its motion. Last fall the epa filed a petition to remove the label. Enlist duo is registered in the market after the epa motion. However it does still need import approval from china. The epa says it was concerned the combination of chemicals would hurt nontarget plants. And thats it for the show this morning. Thanks for tuning in. See you tomorrow everyone.
