Workers in tiffin will get a raise next week, as the City Council Considers opting out of johnson countys minimum wage increase. That means theyll miss the november first deadline when the first raise will go into effect. Tiffin Council Members say they didnt look at the ordinance sooner because no residents had voiced concerns. But recent opposition from a handful of people pushed the council to look at options. Right now the group is split. Two members support the county raise. Others are considering a tiered approach connected to age. That means workers under age 18 would earn less than adult workers. Or, the council could opt out altogether, which would mean rolling back the wage weeks after the county raise happens. 22 02 30 people will be paid the new minimum wage for a given time, and then right around christmas time, if theres enough votes and enthusiasm for this ploy, we would approach employees and say were going to take that back. The council will hold a public hearing in two weeks before taking further action. For more information on that meeting, look for this story under kcrg dot com. Mailboxes for some extra money coming their way. In todays agribusiness report, the issues facing the 2014 farm bill Crop Insurance changes. But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning its. Good morning this is the good morning this is the agribusiness report. Im david geiger. It looks like the 2014 farm bill Crop Insurance changes have processed. And checks will soon be sent to farmers. According to the iowa farm service agency. Some payments were processed last monday in kansas city. And batches were sent out on the 23rd. After that. They have to go to the county office to insure correctness of individual accounts. But some worry that the payments are late. Thats not the case according to the fsa. They cite arc and plc regulations to require payments due. After the calculations are all done. They have to calculate revenues based on commodity. Based on county. And there are over three thousand counties in the nation. And 21 commodities. All have to be data loaded. We use a combination of nass, national ag statistics, and rma, which is Crop Insurance, data to get the yields. Some of that starts to become available in july. The remainder of that doesnt become available until september. Whitaker adds. October 1st is the first day the fsa can start processing Conservation Reserve Program payments. Which are applied to payment limitations. Nearly four billion dollars are provided by the arc an plc safetynet programs. Whitaker says despite last years record crop. Some producers needed significant payments because of a 30 percent drop in corn prices. He says there were other spots where yields were good enough to make up for the price decline. With harvest nearly done. The grain markets are slow moving. And trending to the red. Im sitting on the sidelines in corn, i just dont think prices are going anywhere. So im advising clients just to move on and look at other markets that are trending. And with brazil planting 100 million metric tons, i dont see much hope for soybeans. But i dont think we can see a dollar rally and i dont think we can see a dollar selloff. I think we are just going to chop around for the next several months until spring. So i think this market is going to be very boring. Now, i am caught in a bind here. I am short the december cattle, im around the 141, 142 level, we are limit up in the december contract. So, i am still bearish this market. But sometimes, youre just on the wrong side and right now im on the wrong side. You know, with the World Health Organization coming out and slamming pork and cattle causing cancer, it sent beef prices and cattle prices down the last two days but then right back up today. So, very, very stubborn. Hob prices have absolutely collapsed. I just dont know where theyre going. I think the downside is limited here. Due to the fact that the chart structure is terrible, meaning weve just fallen off a cliff.
