>> well, we'll find out. you tell me. i think we have certainly big crowds. i'm hearing good things, but you never know. >> reporter: trump taking no changes, visiting with voters in manchester. >> very excited, huh? >> we're not going to change our message the entire campaign. >> reporter: tonight, chris christie, the man who took rubio down in the debate, hoping it will pay off. he may need a new hamamhire racle to keep his campaign alive. >> and tom llamas is live with us tonight from outside trump's headquarters. and tom, donald trump so often loves to talk about the polls, but today, he was sounding a bit more cautious. >> reporter: that's right, david, and for two reasons. polls in new hampshire and, also, the trump campaign learned their lesson after iowa. some polls there had them winning and trump came in second place. david, i can tell you this, though, the donald trump i encountered after the iowa caucuses clearly wounded. but tonight, donald trump, full of confidence. david? >> all right, tom llamas, leading us off again tonight. tom, thank you. many believe it is make or break for governor jeb bush tonight. spending more than any other candidate here in new hampshire, $30 million. and tonight, abc's jonathan karl on the campaign trail, finding himself suddenly driving behind jeb bush's bus. and jon had a few questions for the candidate, counting on new hampshire to survive. >> reporter: we're driving through manchester and, of course, run into the jeb bush bus. we're going to follow along because i bet he going to a polls statatn. and sure enough, he was. bush wading through a sea of cameras to make one last pitch for votes. so, governor, what do you say so somebody who is still undeded right now? man? no, look, what i say is, i've got a proven record of accomplishments, the most reform conservative record of anybody running. >> reporter: once the front nner, he's now fighting for survival. >> vote for jeb. >> reporter: even bringing his 90-year-old mother to campaign during a snowstorm. that prompted a withering personal attack from the man who's been his nemesis from the start. >> poor, poor jeb bush who brings out his mother because he needed help. mommy, please come, walk in the snow, mom. >> i know jeb. >> reporter: bush's superpac has tapped his brother for a tv ad during the super bowl, no less.. >> experience and judgment count in the oval office. >> reporter: jeb bush bet the ranch on new hampshire. he and his superpac spending almost $30 million just on tv ads. more than any other candidate. ten times as much as donald trump. and now he is predicting a comeback. >> i've been written off, which i always like that. i love t t fact the pundits mama makes me feel good. >> and jon karl is live with me tonight. clearly there's a lot at stake for bush tonight. his aides telling you that no matter what happens in new mpshire, the campaign moves forward? >> reporter: that's right. he says he i moving on. in fact, they have eight events scheduled over the next few days in south carolina, where they will alsooe campaigning witit former president george w. bush, his brother, and they have one big advantage, still, david, they have more campaign cash than most of his rivals. >> all right, jon karl with us tonight.t. jon, thank you. meantime, on the democratic side tonight, an uphill battle for hillary clinton, who did well here eight years ago. new hampshire voters gave her new life after iowa, but this time, a different story leading in. traiaing bernie sanders by double digits going into the primary. here in his own backyard. clinton has struggles to engaj younger voters, where sanders has excelled. and here's what we're learning from the exit polls coming in right now. and trustworthiness are the characteristics most important to them. 7 in 10 voters describe themselves as liberals. that's higher than in the past. and more saying that income inequality, the economy and jobs are their top issues. abc's cecilia vega out with the sanders team and one-on-one e th clinton toninit. >> reporter: hillary clinton's sprint to the finish line today started right here in manchester. what is your prediction for tonight? >> it's -- i just love the way new hampshire does this thing. they focus in on the issues and they keep coming back. >> reporter: those supporters cheering outside polling stations. >> thank you, all! >> reporter: bernie sanders feeling like a rock star in his own backyard. the vermont senator swarmed by supporters when i caught up with him today. senator sanders, your prediction for tonight? >> reporter: oh, they sure are, david. unlike before the iowa caucuses, what's happening here tonight is not being billed as a victory party. they havav been long bracici for an upset here, in fact, today, clinton's team sent around a list of her endorsements for south carolina, a sign, david, they are already looking to move past this state. >> all right, cecilia vega on way. thank you. and a telling number tonight, by one estimate, 44% of voters here in new hampshire saying they could still change their minds in theours lding up to the primary. today, i met some of those late deciders who told us which way they went and why. across new hampshire today, voters determined to have their voice heard. we take you inside bartlett see the activity right in here. votering including michael clark jr., a veteran bringing his son and his mother. how important is this day in new hampshire? >> very important. >> reporter: he told us, he voted for hillary clinton, because of her experience. his mother says clinton hasn't forgotten the veterans. >> because we have a lot of vets that are coming home. going over and coming home and -- >> forgot about when they come back. >> yeah, so, that's a very, very important thing. for all of them, not just my son. >> reporter: it was not clinton for jean claude laroche, who never misses the new hampshire primary. how important is ththnew hampshire primary day? >> it't'a must. >> reporter: he said trump, christie and rubio topped his list. and today, he decided -- donald trump. and to the people who might say he uses colorful language from time to time? >> i'm the same way. >> reporter: he got your vote today. >> i tell it like it is. >> reporter: vincent smith, a veteran, came all the way from ohio to rally supporters for governor kasich. ohio to get out the vote? >> oh, yeah, we got an ohio brigade. >> reporter: and meredith hungerford, a junior in college, studying education. her first vote. torn between bernie sanders and hillary clinton. her decision? >> bernie sanders. >> reporter: tell me what about >> him. >> i just think he's very relatable. he knows what people want. and for me, climate change, he supports that, and he supports the middle class. i support hillary clinton, too, so, it was a difficult choice. i think i just resesate a little more with bernie. >> reporter: how you doing? >> good, how are you? >> reporter: primary day is here, huh? >> primary day is here. >> reporter: and outside, we met some long-time new hampshire voters, who take pride in their role. you love your role as first in the nation primary? >> of course. >> reporter: why is that? >> because we get to vote. we set the pace for country. >> some of those late dececers and c cflicted voters deciding between candidates at the last minute here. let's get right to george stephanopoulos, who will lead our coverage of the results tonight as they come in and george, first off, the what are you watching for? >> can donald trump close the deal? he's led in new hampshire for 200 straight days. most of those days in double digits. but we saw, as tom llamas mentioned before, that in iowa, his performance didn't match his poll numbers. will that happen again or will he reverse that? if he reverses it, he is the strong front runner again. and then, secondly, do the results on the republican side force people out of the race or give them more incentive to stay in? and those governors, jeb bush, john kasich, chris christie, if they either go ahead of marco rubio or stay close to him, ey're going stay in this race, no matter what. and that could be good news for donald trump, if he's got this split field. >> and george, on the dimmic icdemocratic side, bernie sanders way ahead. so, what does hillary clinton have to do here?
