alamosa. for today, more clouds than sun. risk of a couple passing showers but we have a weekend forecast that you'll like. by the end of the week, highs within 10 degrees of the record. in typical colorado fashion, it's great down here but incredible in the high country. you can see the camera shaking there. once you get up to the traction restrictions in place for passenger and commercial vehicles as conditions are terrible there. see here on the road weather index, the wind there. highway 40 out to winter park, both hands on the steering wheel. slowing southbound coming into town and slowing as you get around the stadium curve. >> take another look at what happened there yesterday. the broncos are heading to california for super bowl 50. they will face the carolina panthers. and peyton manning did just enough. the big play early was new england's kicker missing the extra point. that made the score 7-6, then the broncos up 14-6. late in the game pats fought back and gronk got a pass. played hard all day long. right there is your td pass to gronk right there. it was so close at that point but they needed a two-point conversion because of the missed extra point. the broncos luckily didn't have to play overtime. next stop, super bowl 50. >> it's been a tough year for manning and yesterday's win is what many fans were hoping for. >> denver wins it, heading to super bowl 50. >> amazing man, going back again. it's just -- i love these guys. i love this team. we persevered through a lot this season, a lot of injuries and a lot of hardships. i'm happy for peyton. chance over, just waiting for employees to lay out this gear. but they couldn't do it before the win was official. when we spoke to the sports authority manager, he was beaming with excitement about >> it's coast, the hum of digging and scraping and plowing can be heard. crews are trying to clear the roads as best they can. >> reporter: while we have made some progress, there is still a lot more to do. >> reporter: washington, d.c. schools and government are closed monday but some of the transit will be back up and running. one of the big concerns? black ice. >> we suspect that with the temperature dropping tonight and for every night this week, that we'll see continued slick and dangerous roadways. >> reporter: in new york, even though the travel ban has been lifted, officials are still urging residents to stay off the roads. don't try and shovel it out today unless you have an emergency or something truly urgent. >> reporter: the coastal flood warning has been lifted in new jersey, where several cities got high water and widespread power outages: officials say the worst appears to be over. >> we have done very well in this storm and we have no concerns about flooding or damage from flooding any time soon. >> reporter: driver in this at least three states were blizzard. one of the worst backups was on airports in philadelphia and the new york area resumed very limited service sunday afternoon, but here in d.c., reagan national and dulles, they will open at least one runway tomorrow morning, so again, it's going to take some time to get back to normal. >> and a live look at dia this morning. there could be canceled or delayed flights from the east coast still having an effect here. right now i see about 148 delayed flights in and out of the united states. if you're heading out of town today, maybe going out east, check with your airline on those flights. a would-be robber is dead this morning after being shot by a homeowner he was trying to rob. >> reporter: this apparently started with two men responding to a craigslist ad, then one men being shot by the homeowner and later dying. this happened sunday morning in the 5400 block of south patch court but investigators say when the two men got inside the home, they tied up the the suspect took the keys to the homeowner's suv and the sheriff's office says the two men split up, one leaving in a gold or yellow mustang, the other in the homeowner's suv. but the homeowner managed to break free and went outside after the two suspects. he had a gun and investigators say he shot the suspect that was in his suv. that car stopped in a neighbor's yard a few houses down and that suspect later died at a nearby hospital. both the homeowner and his wife, who was home at the time, were not injured. this morning it's unclear if he'll face charges for the shooting. the sheriff's office says they are looking for a 1990s mustang that's either gold or yellow and possibly a driver who was a hispanic man in and now on 94.1 fm for the latest traffic and cbs 4 weather together. more cases of the zika ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, pediatricians are asking hospital staff to be extra hospitals that even routine mr. speaker procedures can cause significant pain to newborns. the group is recommending hospitals find ways to minimize the number of those procedures. research shows repeated exposure to brain may cause changes in brain development. and the zika virus is on the rise. more than 20 countries have reported cases, and the world health organization says it's expected to spread across all of latin america and the caribbean. the mosquito-borne illness has been linked to an illness that pregnant women are advised to avoid traveling to countries where this is common. we are starting around the freezing mark in the metro area, 30 in aurora, colder up in the foothills. we have flurries this morning and 27 degrees on the western slope. we had the cold front come through yesterday, a few snow showers coming in behind it. snow in the high country today is on the light side, but we have a winter weather advisory for the mountains. 1 to 4 inches of additional snow in the northern and central mountains on the i-70 corridor today. you have snowy travel once you snow showers in the mountains, we'll go off and on throughout much of the day. eastern colorado, cold and windy with a lot of cloud cover coming through. can't rule out a passing snow shower in denver. a couple models want to bring a quick surge of activity through denver between about 3:00 and 7:00 this afternoon as that away. philadelphia, if you're flying on united, check that out. new details of a big earthquake in alaska yesterday this morning. these are the first pictures of the aftermath, which caused several gas explosions. four homes were lost as a result. it was measured at a 7.1 magnitude, hitting about 160 miles southwest of anchorage. one person said it lasted about 30 seconds. been powerful aftershocks as well, measuring 4.0 and 3.2 within 30 minutes of the original quake. coming up next, today people are trying to recover from the massive storm that hit the east coast. >> reporter: there are still coast, the hum of digging and scraping and plowing can be heard. crews are trying to clear the roads as best they can. >> reporter: while we have made some progress, there is still a lot more to do. >> reporter: washington, d.c. schools and government are closed monday but some of the transit will be back up and running. one of the big concerns? black ice. >> we suspect that with the temperature dropping tonight and for every night this week, that we'll see continued slick and dangerous roadways. >> reporter: in new york, even though the travel ban has been lifted, officials are still urging residents to stay off the roads. don't try and shovel it out today unless you have an emergency or something truly urgent. >> reporter: the coastal flood warning has been lifted in new jersey, where several cities got high water and widespread power outages: officials say the worst appears to be over. >> we have done very well in this storm and we have no concerns about flooding or damage from flooding any time soon. >> reporter: driver in this at least three states were blizzard. one of the worst backups was on airports in philadelphia and the new york area resumed very limited service sunday afternoon, but here in d.c., reagan national and dulles, they will open at least one runway tomorrow morning, so again, it's going to take some time to get back to normal. >> and a live look at dia this morning. there could be canceled or delayed flights from the east coast still having an effect here. right now i see about 148 delayed flights in and out of the united states. if you're heading out of town today, maybe going out east, check with your airline on those flights. a would-be robber is dead this morning after being shot by a homeowner he was trying to rob. >> reporter: this apparently started with two men responding to a craigslist ad, then one men being shot by the homeowner and later dying. this happened sunday morning in the 5400 block of south patch court but investigators say when the two men got inside the home, they tied up the the suspect took the keys to the homeowner's suv and the sheriff's office says the two men split up, one leaving in a gold or yellow mustang, the other in the homeowner's suv. but the homeowner managed to break free and went outside after the two suspects. he had a gun and investigators say he shot the suspect that was in his suv. that car stopped in a neighbor's yard a few houses down and that suspect later died at a nearby hospital. both the homeowner and his wife, who was home at the time, were not injured. this morning it's unclear if he'll face charges for the shooting. the sheriff's office says they are looking for a 1990s mustang that's either gold or yellow and possibly a driver who was a hispanic man in speaker procedures can cause significant pain to newborns. the group is recommending hospitals find ways to minimize the number of those procedures. research shows repeated exposure to brain may cause changes in brain development. and the zika virus is on the rise. more than 20 countries have reported cases, and the world health organization says it's expected to spread across all of latin america and the caribbean. the mosquito-borne illness has been linked to an illness that pregnant women are advised to avoid traveling to countries where this is common. we are starting around the freezing mark in the metro area, 30 in aurora, colder up in the foothills. we have flurries this morning and 27 degrees on the western slope. we had the cold front come through yesterday, a few snow showers coming in behind it. snow in the high country today is on the light side, but we have a winter weather advisory for the mountains. 1 to 4 inches of additional snow in the northern and central mountains on the i-70 corridor today. you have snowy travel once you snow showers in the mountains, we'll go off and on throughout much of the day. eastern colorado, cold and windy with a lot of cloud cover coming through. can't rule out a passing snow shower in denver. a couple models want to bring a quick surge of activity through denver between about 3:00 and 7:00 this afternoon as that away. philadelphia, if you're flying on united, check that out. new details of a big earthquake in alaska yesterday this morning. these are the first pictures of the aftermath, which caused several gas explosions. four homes were lost as a result. it was measured at a 7.1 magnitude, hitting about 160 miles southwest of anchorage. one person said it lasted about 30 seconds. been powerful aftershocks as well, measuring 4.0 and 3.2 within 30 minutes of the original quake. coming up next, today people are trying to recover from the massive storm that hit the east coast. >> reporter: there are still
