i talked to our political analyst about the strange dynamics in play this year. >> i'm not convinced that rnd matters as much as personality. there are far too many from my experience, prominent republicans who have already publicly stated i'm not voting for donald trump. >> in are republicans in the suburbs who especially in the suburbs who might not stick with trump. but, will they be offset by blue collar democrats in other counties? we will see. >> colorado could be a pivotal state, but there is is a chance it won't matter at all. if trump doesn't win north carolina, florida, or one of these midwestern states, it is over. his success hinges on a handful of states. the latino vote looms large here. while hillary clinton has not been able to rally african- her. a lot of police department. the city agreed to pay $2.6 million to the family of a man shot and nashalis carter vansan was killed. he was not armed. in the 18 months since the shooting, aurora police say it enacted new reforms including a division that tracks the use of force and increased use of body cameras. >> policy and procedures will continue to be reviewed with the intent of improving the quality and timeliness of internal investigations. >> the officer who shot him was need help tracking down this man. he is accused of taking pictures up a woman's skirt. the broncos chargers game at mile high two sundays ago. the suspect has a very distinctive blade type prosthetic. and, developing now, a former hospital employee who stole painkillers is sentenced to prison. 28-year-old rocky allen worked as a surgical tech at swedish medical center in englewood. our rick sallinger following this case since the very tonight. how many years in prison did he get? >> reporter: well, the gentry repeatically scolded him, but gave him lest time than the government asked for. six-and-a-half years in federal prison. rocky allen told the court he was sorry. describing himself as a lost destruction. he apologized to the hospital for stealing fentanyl. >> rocky, what would you like to say to those who suffered as a result of your actions? >> reporter: there was no reply from him or his attorney. some 2400 swedish hospital patients were notified and underwent $800,000 worth of testing after he was caught. he left an elderly woman on the operating table without painkiller. and a burn victim waiting in surgery. department found no evidence of virus transfer to the hiv positive allen. >> based on our investigation, we didn't find any evidence that even that could have occurred. >> reporter: still, scott believes he was made ill from allen's actions. rocky allen was fired from a total of five hospitals, all you don't give a damn about the person you were injecting with salt water when they needed pain relief. he needs to surrender within 18 days to begin his six-and-a- half year sentence. one witness was called by the defense to testify, a psychologist who said rocky allen suffered from post- traumatic stress disorder. he had served in afghanistan and the navy, but said that the disorder also stemmed from including by a cult. live at federal court, rick sallinger, cbs4 news. >> thank you rick. happening right now, a community meeting is understood way following the arrest of a postal carrier. he stole nearly 26,000 pieces of mail. there is a meeting at sterling middle school and our lauren dispirito was there. >> reporter: the meeting will take place this hour. people here will get the latest information on the investigation. tayson hildalgo is accused of stealing 26,000 pieces of mail. most of it found when he was arrested. tonight at 10:00, how the suspect got away with the alleged crime. in sterling, lauren dispirito, cbs4 news. i-25 in the tech center back open after a crash that shut down all the northbound lanes for hours today. a tanker truck flipped over, spilling about 50 gallons of fuel on the t was just before the lunch hour at busy independence plans. >> i went to colorado. you expect to have a ton of snow now. >> reporter: drone 4 shows us just how dry things are at the top of the divide. so dry, the highway will stay open through the weekend at least. >> last year, this time, we had a couple of feet and there was no big deal. but, this year? the pass is still open. >> reporter: last year, it closed on the fourth. and, in 2014, stayed open until cdot won't close the pass until snow is in the forecast. so for now it's a bonus few days of open road and pleasant views for people making the drive over this iconic stretch of colorado highway. >> so, take advantage, matt, thanks. once independence pass does close, the alternate route is i- 70 to glen wood springs. now to an update to you on ski season. loveland ski area says it will op keystone hoping opening day will be friday. copper delayed its opening until the 18th. basin has one run open. let's get to ed greene in the colorado weather center. the ski support for a woman arrested during these protests over a new oil pipeline in north dakota. the denver woman's name is red fawn fallace and she fired three shorts at a sheriff's deputy during the protest they say. the deputy was not hit. the pipeline will run very close to an indian reservation. protesters say the tribe's cultural sites might be damaged. her denver will help support her until she is released. >> the people who will be put on trial are the people who are the violators of the earth and the water in her homeland. the people on trial will be the human rights violators who are engaging those violations. >> she is one of 120 protesters arrested march 22. they say the pipeline was dakota at the expense of the land and water on that reservation. new at 6:00 tonight, a pregnant woman in labor took her civic duty very seriously before going to the hospital. she and her husband went to the boulder county clerk's office to make sure she got her vote in. cbs4's tom mustin joins us live in boulder now after talking to that new mom and she was very dedicated tom. >> reporter: she was karen. now, the couple says this is the most important election of their live sos they want to make sure their vote counted. they were inside here behind me when the mom went into labor. they were about this close from delivering a boulder ballot baby. little rosie is barely two days old and already causing quite a stir. >> i was just so excited to be in labor. it has been a long journey. >> reporter: friday morning, proud parent sosh i edelstein and max brandell cast their ballots. she felt contractions that heading to the hospital. >> we didn't know what could happen after the birth. it could have been the hospital forever. and no condition to go back out. >> reporter: she and max are both small business owners. she had never voted before but felt this was personal. >> i took a deep breath when a contraption came. got my envelope and all was good. >> reporter: inside the office, the contractions got stronger. she is in office pain with rosie on the we literally made it just in the nick of time. >> reporter: the couple raced to the hospital. >> ecstatic at this little storm system off the pacific. and then you see another storm system here. what that is showing you is everything is coming in. there is plenty of moisture. plenty of storms. but they are all going to the north. with this storm track to the north and the high pressure ridge over us forcing all the storms to the north, that lets the warm air up from the deserts. that is why we are mild. so, dry, because the storms to the north. and mild because that warm air comes in to take its place. you can see how wa with 50s , 60s , 70s over a great deal of the nation, down to the south, from vegas, all the way to miami, you see temperatures in the 80s . we had a high of 64. both locations today. after starts of 36 and 38. here is where we should be. 56 for the high. 28 degrees for the low. the records, 78 and 10. weather watchers, 59 in lafayette. 60 in arvada. 65 in brush. east 9 for the wins. barometer. a shot here, this is a sunrise from deckers. and we have a sunset over chatfield state park. you can see how the sky is reflected in the water there. and this is sunset from quincy. temperatures mostly in the 30s and the 20s in the eastern plains. 20s in the mountains. tomorrow, another
