center this morning. >> what an incredible finish. of course i was sleeping. i woke up to see the good news. very tough eastern plains down to three tenths of a mile on that fog. that general area is thick once again. the rest of us are on the clear side so nothing to worry about this morning. we cool off a bit today and we have a cold front working its way through. it's a dry cold front. looking at mostly sunny skies and a few more clouds later this afternoon around town and we're seeing cool temperatures closures we had for taes of colorado and those went straight into the nfl kickoff party in civic center park. that closed off bannic and 14th and these closures are staying in place as we have the 9/11 rememberens event going on throughout the weekend. great drive times this morning makingou town this morning. slowing eastbound along u.s. 36 from broomfield to denver, an 11-minute drive. great speeds along i-270 still seeing a slow down in a bit and westbound along i-76 right into denver, a six minute drive. firefighters rescue a five year old girl from her burning home last night. near kipling and morrison. shawn chitnis is there now. a lot of damage to the house. >> reporter: yes, i'm standing by the front side of the house you see in the distance with the red card. some work happening to patch things up. as you look at the video here on the back side you can see how significant the damage was and how heavy the fire was and that's where that girl was firefighters were table to get her to the front of the home and rescue her. she and her dad were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. there were two other adults outside when firefighters arrived and they are okay. they first got on scene around 12:30 and they said there was heavy fire on the back side and they were able to get a quick house because of the damage that's significant but it's unclear exactly what may have caused the fire and if it's going to be a total loss. there's a crew boarding it up and securing it now. firefighters say this likely started on the deck on the back of the house but there's an investigation to figure out what the cause is. live in lakewood, shawn chitnis, cbs4 news. thanks shawn, time now for weather and traffic. >> starting off with mild spots. 53 in denver and 63 in burlington. 36 in gunnison and 58 in grand junction. fog is thick on the eastern plains. we still have the fog out there down to 3-10ths of a mile in burlington. looking at satellite and radar skies are clear and nice morning staid wide it's cooler in the up 50s and sunshine and fairly mild and we'll talk about the weekend in a moment. we're watching the drive from our tech center cam. it's nice and wide open in the northbound direction as you make your way through the bridges. we see delays and paving work. seeing a few more cars on the roadway. folks are making their way into town this morning and we'll see the drive times pick up in a bit. for now enjoy this. along70 of 285 as as they continue to do the repaving work. both directions along i-70 getting in and out of downtown. speeds in the upper 50s and lower 60s. this morning the white house is assessing knock knock's claims that it detonated a nuclear war head during a missile test. north korea leaders say it's in response to international sanctions and u.s. hostility. condemnation from around the world. >> reporter: north korea is hailing its fifth nuclear test a success adding the nation is capable of mounting nuclear war heads on ballistic rockets. president obama traveled home last night as commander in chief. he said north korea's test would be met with serious consequences. just this week t prompting obama to threaten tougher sanctions. >> north korea needs to know provocations will only invite more pressure and deeper in isolation. >> reporter: back in january north korea claimed to have tested a hydrogen bomb. some monitors believe today's test coinciding with the 65th anniversary may be the largest one yet. bars. shawn west is facing theft charges from a woman stealing art. that's when the family went to police in wheat ridge. detectives found several accounts online in which they're trying to sell the art including an $800 sculpture. >> we did an undercover operation where we purchased 16 items from the suspect. a few days after we did a searc more items. >> the investigations revealed more than 500 pieces of art were stolen. many had not been recovered. 51-year old shawn west is charged with theft from an at risk adult and she is in jail. the douglas county sheriff's office will update us on a deputy injured in a shoot out. he was shot near a middle school in parker last friday. officers. we expect to learn more about his injuries and the investigation into the shooting after the news conference this morning. 178 yards and 2 interceptions and a touchdown wasn't the best start for the nfl but not the worst either. broncos quarterback trevor siemian completed close to 70% of his passes and scored against one of the best defenses in the league after that screen pass to cj anderson there. we have the highlights coming up say these signs are a reminder of sacrifice. >> with crazy times going on now project was essential. >> reporter: his three sons all became police officers. his wife says her life was changed on this corner but it's now on this corner hopes the sign will remind others the thin blue line is here to protect us. >> without police officers and firemen we wouldn't be anywh to honor the victims of 9/11. there's the annual stair climb at red rocks and the remembrance ceremony at civic center park and the free tribute concert. governor hickenlooper stopped by to tell us what else to expect from the event. >> there's 250 first responders and structural steel from the world trade center that was recovered. people who lost their lives and the other first responders that risked their lives on 9/11. nice start to across the state. 61 for la hundred hah ta and and valley areas. 43 in avon and 36 in gunnison and 58 in grand junction. we are still foggy on the eastern plains from ouray to burlington and reduced visibility and near the la junta area this morning. looking at the satellite and radar aside from the fog, the rest of us on the clear side and much of the southwest is very dry. we have a cold front coming through today but it's a dry moisture from it. the southwest is very dry as well. looking at our futurecast for today. mostly sunny skies and the front coming through throughout the morning hours and dropping our temperatures throughout the afternoon. a few clouds late in the day. the western side of the state should stay fairly clear and tonight rain possible down south but by tomorrow morning it will be cool outside so get ready for a cool down and we're looking at a nice warmer day in the low 80s. we get a few showe colorado. temperatures today will feel nice outside. windy with this front. 74 in greeley and burlington and ray. 69 in frisco. 86 in grand junction. we have a freeze watch up in parts of the yam pa river so we could see temperatures in the 20s and 30s. a mild day sunday at 91 degrees. the heat does return for one day. how is the drive? tech center cam. this is a great looking drive. take a look southbound coming down from the bridges into the tech center. volume out there but you really don't need to disengage the cruise control. just ride through with your friends and fellow broncos fans. look at this green on the map along i-270 nice and wide open. seeing a few delays. we had a taste of colorado that had most of civic center park shut down as well as colfax. we didn't have along colfax for the nfl kickoff concert. they're continuing clean up on that. this will become the 9/11 remembrance event happening this weekend so closures will remain in place throughout weekend. here's your drive times as you make your way east from downtown. and brian bosworth. let's look at our travel forecast. no major delays. dry in the southwest and for the western side of the country some storms moving through northern woem this morning and storms expected today and chugging through parts of missouri and iowa. that's the biggest threat for severe weather as we head towards oklahoma and kansas, nebraska, iowa, and missouri. looking at some of those this morning and we could see it continue for a while and the east coast is so hot and humid, excessive heat warnings in some areas in the northeast days as the heat is intense today and tomorrow. they get some relief as we head towards sunday. mild for us today at denver. the east economy lot will fill up quickly. take a look at i-270 and york this morning. should be an okay drive. you have to use the breaks and disengage the cruise control. through commerce city. slowing along i-270 southbound as you get closer to i-76. inbound along pena nice and wide open. speeds into the fifts from i-25 -- -- 50s. all downtown lines passing near the convention center we're seeing 30-minute delays. there's police activity activity going on the at convention center and denver police say kubiak was not happy about but he liked the way trevor siemian responded. he finished the 171 yards and a touchdown pass. the broncos did a good job helping trevor siemian out in his first start. lots of short passes and at the end of the day, a win is a win. here's what trevor siemian said after his first start and victory as a broncos quarterback. >> we knew we had our hands full and it's coming
