sworn in the day before she was gunned down, and an army in her killing. and campaign 2016. new questions about donald trump and the kkk, and marco rubio rips trump below the belt. >> you know what they say about men with small hands? good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with the oscars, where an underdog won for best picture and the politically charged atmosphere just about overshadowed the winners. host chris rock took no prisoners as he took on the uproar of the lack of diversity. for the second straight year, all of the major nominees were white. meanwhile, the newspaper was on the spotlight was on the surprise winner for best picture. chris martinez has our report. shined a spotlight on the victims of the catholic priest sex abuse scandal won for best academy awards. >> francis, it's time to protect the children and restore the faith. "the revenant" won for best leonardo dicaprio won for best actor. it was his fifth nomination but his first win. for granted. thank you very much. >> brie larson won for "room." and mad max was most honored and walking away with six production awards. chris rock hosted the night. his opening monologue all of the white nominees. >> otherwise known as the white people choice awards. >> reporter: the comedian beat the diversity drum every chance he got and the president of the academy echoed his sentiment. >> our audiences are global and facet of our industry should be as well. >> reporter: even here on the red carpet where oscar fashion is usually the biggest topic of discussion, diversity was front and center. >> i'm here, because to disappear and truly make it oscar so white is stupid to me >> reporter: the night included visits from r2d2 and lady gaga with a special presentation aimed at sexual violence. chris martinez, cbs news, hollywood. now to presidential politics. tomorrow is super tuesday with 11 states holding primaries or caucuses for the delegates. for the democrats 865 are up for grabs. it takes 2,383 to clench the nomination. there are 595 republican delegates at stake. that is nearly half of those needed to clench the nomination. and this morning, donald trump is taking a lot of heat for refusing to condemn the kkk. >> reporter: republican front-runner donald trump campaigned in alabama sunday afternoon. earlier he appeared on cnn and refused to give an endorsement for david duck and the kkk. >> i'm talking about david duke and the ku klux klan here. >> honestly, i don't know david duke. i don't believe i've ever met him. i'm pretty sure i've never met him and i don't know anything about him. >> reporter: other candidates slammed trump for condemning the support. >> there is no place in the conservative movement for david duke, the ku klux klan. >> we don't have anyplace for white supremacist in the united states of america. >> reporter: with more than 1,500 delegates up for grabs on tuesday, the republicans are hitting key states in the south. and hillary clinton also attacked trump. >> i said last night, america whole. >> reporter: a new cbs battleground tracker poll sanders in virginia, georgia, and texas. after losing south carolina's democratic primary. >> we did really, really badly with older african-american voters. i mean, we got decimated. >> reporter: trump is ahead in virginia and georgia, but trails 155 delegates are at stake there. trump's remarks yesterday about not knowing david duke don't jibe with what he said friday, endorsement. >> i didn't even know he david duke endorsed me? okay, all right. i disavow, all right. >> reporter: hillary clinton >> don champion here in new york, thank you, don. went after trump during a rally in virginia yesterday. >> he is always calling me i admit he is taller than me by 6'2" which i don't know why his hands are the size of someone who is 5'2". have you seen his hands?
