" donald trump lie between the address, saying "i hope he doesn't spend too much time amendment," and adding," we need a new president, fast." the university of iowa is taking on the stanford cardinal in the rose bowl. the 11-2 cardinal is coming off the pac 12 championship and has one of the front runners for the heisman, christian mccaffrey. kcci's scott reister joins us with the details. scott: todd, after losing the big ten championship game to michigan state the big question , was was it good enough to get to the rose bowl? we found out. iowa is headed to pasadena. first time since 1990 and just the sixth time ever. the rose bowl committee said it would pick whichever big ten team the playoff committee ranked highest. this afternoon, the committee announced iowa was ranked two spots ahead of ohio state, so it's the hawkeyes and pac-12 champion stanford jan 1 -- stanford, january 1 in pasadena at 4:00. check out our website for ticket information. iowa has had quite an emotional 24 hours. michigan state mounted an epic 9 minute, 22 play drive to take the lead with less than a minute left. in the loss though iowa proved , it belonged. >> got some feedback from some other people that i follow in stuff on social media. you saw two teams really fighting it out, tooth and nail. it is a great battle, great defense of game. both teams really competed hard. i think that if you're a football fan, you can't help but appreciate the effort of both teams. scott: it was an historic announcement for the hawkeyes. andy garman has more on iowa's reaction later in sports. , todd: it was a rollercoaster of a ride for iowa fans. kcci's jason rantala is live with how they're reacting to the last 24 hours. jason r: saturday's big ten championship was a devastating , that feeling of heartbreak was tempered with today's rose bowl berth. from start to finish -- a hard-fought game from start to finish but in the end, the , spartans were just too much to handle. a loss to heart wrenching for iowa fans just an agonizing end , to a championship game. >> totally heartbreaking. >> i was pretty upset. scott: but sunday's news of a rose bowl berth help to take the sting out of a hard loss. >> not going to the rose bowl -- but now going to the rose bowl really makes you feel better. ,>> not completely, because i thought they were better than michigan state. scott: for others it will be the , first rose bowl game with iowa they've ever seen. time we've been since i've been alive. scott: but now matter how the season ends in pasadena, fans agree, it's been a great ride with plenty to be proud of. >> i'm very happy with the season. 12-0, i even bought one of those t-shirts that says 12-0. >> if we go 1-11 next year, i'll still be a hawks fan, you gotta love your team. jason r: fans we talked to to say while this was a very tough loss the hard-fought game likely , garnered the respect of the committees who pick the matchups, like the rose bowl. todd: the university of iowa is encouraging fans who want rose bowl tickets to buy them through the university. ticket prices range from $150 to $185. iowa's ticket allocation is in sections 11 through 18. there is a limit on the number of tickets people can buy based on their donation level and season ticket status. the max is a tickets, -- is eight tickets all the way down and if you can get your hands on a ticket, the flights to pasadena from des moines will cost you a pretty penny. a quick search on several travel websites today, the cheapest flights we found leaving new years eve and returning on the second was $740. and if you want to drive you are looking at a 1,074 mile trip one way. google maps says it would take 24 hours. after the big ten championship game last night, things got out of hand in east lansing. among the items set on fire, several couches, a stuffed animal and a dumpster. , police in riot gear stood by and stepped in to disperse crowds around an off campus apartment complex after fireworks and fires started. now to the other big story today. des moines police have released the names of the people involved in a deadly home invasion. police say 31-year-old travis williams died after breaking into a home at 2020 east 14th street early saturday morning. the two people inside the home campbell. an autopsy is scheduled and then prosecutors will review the evidence and then decide whether to file charges. the first trial related to allegations of hazing at a northern iowa high school has now been scheduled for february. 18-year-old seth pille, accused of hazing freshmen on the clarion-goldfield-dows football team, recently pleaded not guilty to sexual abuse charges. his trial is scheduled for february 9. two other students, 16-year-old tristan mewes and 17-year-old michael schaffer, are also charged in the case. all three of those teens who were charged have been expelled from school. now for a first check of the forecast. jason s: we have an absolutely gorgeous moines. his wife candy shared her praise dr. carson: we have been truly blessed to be here today and our , favorite place to be is always in a church. marcus: and the presidential candidate shared his message. dr. carson: the lord has been so poewrful in my life and i think of all the things that happened from the very beginning. marcus: that message was well received and by most accounts, , it was a message church members wanted to hear. >> i think it is good for us to see that he has the same values we share and we have commom values. >> as a christian, you want, we want soemone we can identify with who has the same values, who believes what we believe. marcus: dr. carson is not alone in the courting of christian voters, a large group that could sway a presidential primary and general election. just last week senator ted cruz , courted voters at christian life assembly of god in central iowa. makes him a strong leader, his faith, his belief in god. people at cornerstone are not tipping their hat as to who they will vote for but they know what beliefs they want to country's next president. >> a christian, that is great for our country. we need to have more christian is already working with congress to strengthen rules of letting some immigrants into the united states as well as military action against isis. those who come to america without a visa so we can take a , hard look at whether they travelled to war zones. and we are working with members of both parties of congress to do exactly that. finally, if congress believes, as i do that we are at war with isil, it should go ahead and , vote to authorize use of force against these terrorists. todd: the president also urges americans to understand this is not a war against the muslim faith. federal investigators are learning more about the married couple behind the massacre in san bernardino. and the community mourns the 14 victims of what is being investigated as one of the deadliest terror attacks on american soil since 9/11. danielle nottingham has the latest from san bernardino. danielle a message of peace and : tolerance resonated sunday as family and friends remembered the victims of the san bernardino shooting. >> it is tough to do this because i am actually quite but we have to remember that even the muslim people are our brothers and sisters. danielle: yvette velasco, who was one of the 14 killed, was a member of this tight-knit church in nearby rialto. parishioners are in shock that her life was cut so short. >> it was like a stab in the heart. danielle: worshipers of all different fates also gathered at a los angeles mosque for a service to show solidarity. while the community here in san bernardino tries to heal from its loss, investigators are piecing together more information about the two shooters. officials say federal investigators are trying to figure out whether tashfeen malik radicalized her american husband syed farook. the fbi seized several items during a raid saturday at this riverside home. the house belongs to enrique marquez, a friend of farook's. authorities believe he bought two assault rifles used in the attack. not considered a suspect, but checked himself into a psychiatric hospital shortly after wednesday's shooting. danielle nottingham, cbs news, san bernardino, california. todd: a law enforcement source tells cbs news, investigators are confident only farook and marquez purchased the guns legally in california and reconfigured them to be more then they powerful. investigators are also reviewing video from the california gun store owners, who have called saying they had the two together. marquez is not under arrest and he is not considered a suspect. right now, police in london are investigating a stabbing as a terrorist incident. police say two people were hurt by a man who reportedly said , "this is for syria." police had to use a stun gun on the 29-year-old suspect before he was arrested. investigators from scotland yard's counter-terrorism unit searched his home in east london. they did not say if they found anything. turning to more commitment 2016 news. five republican presidential candidates are calling for a tougher fight against terrorism. rising tide summit in cedar rapids. chris: texas senator ted cruz enjoying the largest ovations throughout saturday's rising tide summit in downtown cedar rapids, as well as the most media attention. cruz has pushed through, past 20% in two recent polls, ahead of dr. ben carson and closer to donald trump. he talked extensively of nationals -- of national security concerns after the killings in california. sen. cruz: what was the response of president obama and hillary clinton and far too many members of the news media to this terror attack in san bernadino? it was to go after the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. chris dr. carson spoke later on : saturday, still trying to reach into his non-traditional politician appeal. dr. carson: the political class would have you believe that they are the only ones who can solve problems, but they need to go back and investigate, and they will find that this country was designed for the citizen statesman and not the career politician. chris kentucky senator rand paul : talked about growing the throughout inner cities. sen. paul: i still bring the message of limited government, of government that leaves us alone, but a government that is also a government that says to young people "you should get , another chance if you make a mistake." chris after a surge amid earlier : debates, carly fiorina's poll numbers have stayed stuck in the single digits. a major tax -- a major talking point, change the tax code. for your and carly president is now cancer free. jason carter says no cancer was detected in the most recent scan of his father. president carter announced he was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to his brain back in august. doctors removed part of his liver and he had radiation treatment, plus a newly approved auto-immune drug. new tonight. for the first time since spring, a u.s. shipment of supplies is on its way to the international space station. the spacecraft will arrive at the station on wednesday. the u.s. had two supply ship launch failures in the past 14 months. there are six astronauts on the space station. two of them are more than halfway through a year-long mission. now time to check in with jason sydejko. the forecast, just a lot of warm weather. astronauts wish they were down here that early before we catch a bit of a break. high-pressure moves on to our south. you can see this week boundary continues to push up. some of the cloud cover in northern portions of the state. as we shift into the middle of the week, our jet remains nearly summerlike in spots. usually, we would see a streamer coming in from the north. that is just not the case. we warm temperatures and quite a bit of sunshine. eastern portions of the state. we hold on to the fog for a bit longer than that. it is going to be like this for a while. if you don't make it out tomorrow, tuesday, there will be more chances of sunshine. that shift out of the southwest is what will help us warm-up considerably. a we bit of patchy fog to start off your day. temperatures in the low 30's. we do warm-up tomorrow
