Cutting 100 manufacturing workers at two of its iowa factories. The layoffs will begin april 1 and will affect 80 workers in davenport and 20 in dubuque. Just last week deere cut its fullyear earnings forecast, citing weak sales of farm and construction equipment. Analysts say falling Commodity Prices have made farmers less likely to buy new equipment. Turning to news from around the state, a Blackhawk County man is dead after the gun he was carrying accidentally fired. The incident happened just after 12 30 this morning in Elk Run Heights just south of waterloo. Police say the unidentified man dropped the weapon when getting out of his car. They say the gun discharged and the bullet hit him in the leg. The man died later at a waterloo hospital. Des moines water works is taking another step in its efforts to get rid of nitrates in the citys water. It says it wants to do away with building a pipeline. The utility currently dumps nitrates and chloride back into the Raccoon River after the new pipeline would run under the river and connect to a sewer at the metro wastewater authority. Construction will cost 1. 25 million. Officials say they hope to have the pipeline ready by the end of the year. The nitrate runoff is at the center of a lawsuit filed by the Des Moines Water Works against three drainage districts upstream on the Raccoon River.
