" x, iowa - some would say there's a special bond between a horse and its owner. that's what running the race horse ranch president chris jordan wants to introduce to the children she serves. " we call it horse therapy," jordan said. "the kids come out and they learn how to ride the horses, take care of them, brush them with the kids side by side the whole time they're here, make sure that they're safe." children up to 18 years old can participate. jordan and volunteers work with the participants, teaching them everything about the horses, and also ministering to them. jordan said working with horses can have a calming effect. "we've heard from the parents that its really helped build confidence in the kids, it has helped the kids develop a sense of well being and responsibility," jordan said. "they kind of go in stages where they'll just kind of start out brushing and then pretty soon they can ride by themselves, so its really helped with confidence." she said she started the ranch as a way to give back. "i grew up with horses and we spent a lot of time competing with horses as a family. god put it on my heart about five years ago that he wanted us to start a horse camp for kids," jordan said. volunteer emmie rommann has for more than three years, and she said the experience is "just teaching them god, and to find that bond with a horse, because i've had that my whole life," rommann said. " this is our first christmas picture" images full of love and smiling family members hang throughout mone aye's house. but something as simple as a photograph -- a tangible memory -- used to be a luxury for her. this picture was the only one she ever had growing up. she was born in a refugee camp in thailand ... and would spend summers worrying if she would be bombed. she saw that worry come true when she was just five years old. "my aunt just pulled me by the hand and we just ran. we had to run up on the mountain, hiding by the cliff. looking down the hill we can see our house was burning." at the age of ninteen ... mone and her family came to iowa. but it wasn't a quick getaway. it took more than a year of interviews ... paperwork ... background and medical checks through the united nations to travel as a legal refugee. "i'm blessed. i'm lucky enough to come here. now i have a house i can call my home, i have my own car and i have my career, my job that i can work." with nationwide the backlash against syrian refugees coming to america ... mone relates to the violence the millions are trying to flee. "i feel the same way for syria where they're trying to look for a safe place, a better place for their future, for their kids, for the women, for everybody. just because of one fear that somebody created for them, now everyone's turning them down." she says the tactics of isis don't reflect what most refugees long for ... and refugees shouldn't be turned away as a whole. "overnight, more gunfire in paris...french police on the ground in a paris suburb...residents told to stay inside. we just want to be safe" investigators confirmed the fluid scene is related to the deadly isis terror attacks in the city and the suspected mastermind abdelhamid abaaoud. it was believed he had made his way back into syria but now police are working to confirm whether he's hiding out in an apartment not far from the stadium where friday night's attack began. there have been more than 100 raids throughout the city and as police hunt for another armed and dangerous suspect salah abdeslam. the us, france and russia have teamed up striking isis targets in syria. russian president vladimir putin vowed revenge after it was confirmed isis used a bomb to down this russian passenger plane over egypt killing 224 people. here at home overnight, two air france flights bound for paris...one from la, the other from dc...were diverted after anonymous bomb threats were called in. passengers were evacuated and the planes were swept but police found nothing. the us is on high alert but europe is on edge....major sporting events cancelled over heightened fears. in germany, a hanover stadium was evacuated before kick off because of a bomb threat. but in england, prince william lead a show of solidarity before a soccer match against france...80 thousand englishmen sang france's national anthem. french investigators say 5 people were arrested in that paris suburb, 3 from an apartment but we do not know their identities or what role, if any they're suspected of playing in the terrorist attacks. before police moved in, they say a female suicide bomber set off her belt...she died on the scene. woman who lost her husband this summer when he was ran over by another man high on drugs. dustin suppi (soup-ee) has plead guilty to manslaughter in the death of troy ford. suppi was under the infulence of synthetic marijuana when he ran over troy after the couple stopped to help him. it was the first time liz had the opportunity to face the man who "you took my love, my husband, my friend, my partner, my soul and my spirit. you made me question god, my life and my career" jessica rae: suppi did ask for forgiveness for his crime. he said he regrets the choices he made that day... and knows his family, including a one-year-old son, will also pay for his actions. jessica rae: lincoln police are investigating an alleged rape at the home of husker quarterback tommy armstrong jr. a 20 year old woman claims the sexual assult happened sunday morning. she says she does know the suspect, who officals have not identified. as of this morning, no arrests have been made in the case. the nebraska athletics department is aware of the allegation and is cooperating with law enforcement. jessica rae: three people are in the hospital after an explosion at a business in sac county... it all happened at proliant, a processing plant, which is on main street..in lytton ( three people were welding in a storage tank when it exploded two of those people were taken to the hospital in sac city... and then moved to an omaha hospital. the third person is being treated at the hospital in lake city. an investigation is under way no names have yet been released. jessica rae: rescue crews responded to an apartment fire in south sioux yesterday afternoon. officials headed to west 27th street after a grease fire broke out in one of the unit's kitchens. the person at home put water on the fire, which only made it worse. thankfully... no one was seriously injured... but the man escaped with just minor burns. "unfortunately he was cooking with grease, so he tried to throw water on it which is not good cause it just turns into a column of fire at that point." says ssc fire chief toby english, jessica rae: the apartment unit suffered minor smoke damage. jessica rae: in the past week, the american red cross has responded to 25 house fires across the state of iowa. and as winter approaches... the red cross is reminding families to be cautious when using space heaters and other heating sources. space between heaters and your pets, your children or anything that can burn easily also... never leave a fire in the fireplace un-attended... never use a cooking range or oven to heat your home... and have your fireplace or chimney inspected annually " jessica rae: coming up sports...m-m-c has one more game in the season we'll hear from the eagles on what it would mean to win a state championship after the break. scott: jessica rae: now that the harvest is basically finished... farmland sales will become more common through out the siouxland area. for more on this... we are joined like always by dennis morrice from k-l- e-m radio. good morning, dennis. dennis: good morning jessica. despite low agricultural commodity prices, land still seems to be in high demand with buyers willing to spend near record levels. at a sioux county land auction held last friday near hospers, a tract of 154 acres sold at $17,300 an acre. when you calculate that, it equals to two million, 664 thousand, 200 dollars. jim klein of remsen was the auctioneer for the sale. he says land sold is of very productive. " (as said) : "it was a 154 of 99-point-one-five, which is rather unusual. and what's that is, there was that had 100, which is almost never seen". dennis: klein says the land was sold to a local neighboring property adjacent to the land that was for sale. the auctioneer says there was a lot of interest in the agricultural real estate, as it had several bidders at the start of the sale. jessicrae: dennis, was this farmland sale a new record price in sioux county? dennis: no... jessica, the price per acre is not a record for sioux county land sales, as a parcel of land sold for more than $20,000 an acre nearly two years ago, but at that time, commodity prices for both grain and livestock were higher. klein says with today's lower prices for grain and livestock, and the outlook showing a continuation of declining farm income, the expectation would be that land values would also decline. "sot) klein3 :43 outcue: "...going to be a purchaser".
