" (audrey lowman/participant) once i got in there, you see all different walks of life in there, so i think it could be beneficial to anybody. jessica rae: for years doctors have been telling patients with high blood pressure to aim for blood pressure of 140 to 150, but a new study found blood pressure of 120 after age 60 can reduce the risk of heart attacks, heart failure and strokes by nearly a third. jessica rae: as we get oldede it becomes harder to get rid of that spare tire, also known as the "middle age spread." say if you're diligentl you can win the battle of that bulge. according to a recent study at the national institutes of health, a primary cause of that 'spare tire' is a hormone called leptin... which tells your body you're full. as you age- those signals get weak. "age is just a number. i think that i ianyone sasa they're too young or too old, it's'sust an excuse," said seth tonner, developer of galactic stream. seth and austin tonner are both in their early twenties and have started galactic stream all on their own. galactic stream is a service that provides consumers with a small box that turns any tv into a smart television. it gives customers access to some of the latest televsion series and feature films, but it is different from competitors like netflix or hulu. " you have hundreds and hundreds of thousands of options, and you're never paying a monthly fee again,there's no competition. there's other company out there that's doing what we're doing," said seth tonner. and this isn't where these brothers plan on stopping with expansion. the co- owners of galactic stream hope to... "take it to the moon, that's our plan for expansion" said seth tonner. galactic stream has about 1300 customers right now, but these brothers hope to get distributers all throughout the nation. and they're learned a few things along their journey. (cruz) "this is not a cage match... jessica rae: and here in siouxland... a group weighed in on the republican presidential debate at briar cliff university. a watch party was held on campus. the event was organized by the briar cliff college republicans. the students also invited local republican officials, who said they expected a heated exchange between candidates who are still fighting to find a place in the race. "one of the bad things with this debate and so many people there's very little time that they get on stage so they have to maximize the impact of what and those people that are polling poorly need to get the attention," saidom mitchell, secretary of woodbury county republican party jessica rae: students we spoke to at the watch party said they want to hear more from the candidates on the economy and the job market. jessica rae: police officers in the quad cities are in a unique position. the mississippi river adds to the difficulty of this often dangerous job. before officers turn on their flashing lights and begin chasing a car they have to consider a lot of things. but they say.... the most important thing is public safety. capt. brent biggs: "we recognize that there's a need for vehicle pursits in certain circumstances, but out priority is to going to be community saftey as well as the officers involved in those meets the needs of the police officers and public safety. every department in iowa and illinois has a pursuit policy. jessica rae: after 21 years on the job... davenport central high school's resource officer is retiring. corporal martin lopez says it's time to step aside. over the years, he's built a bond with students and worked to create a safe atmosphere on campus. he's seen plenty of interesting situations during his time. and...lopez has noticed his service has spanned a generation. martin lopez: it's come to the point where kids here now say hey, my mom and dad went to school here and you know, so it's like, okay i think it's about time to leave! no-um, but yeah, and you leave on a good note there." jessica rae: corporal lopez says dealing with high school students taught him how to have patience and understanding. jessica rae: in today's gardening segment... melinda meyers shows us how to raise your planting bed to a comfortable height here she is now with more. "don't let lousy soil, bad knees or an aching back stop you from gardening. try raising the planting bed to a comfortable height. we made our raised beds from naturally long-lasting cedar. plastic lumber, boulders or treated timbers will also work. just make sure the preservatives used are safe for plants and people. our beds are 4 x 8 feet for easy access and 16 inches deep, allowing plenty of space for the plant roots. you may want to make yours higher for easier access. or get creative and do something fun like this star bed. set the bed in place - you may want corner stakes to help anchor it in place. level the bed checking all sides. next fill with a quality topsoil. add compost or garden amendment if needed. mix this and fertilizer into the topsoil, rake smooth and allow to settle. now your garden is ready for planting. i'm melinda myers, check out our website for this and other gardening tips. "there is a place for some of that technology but i think it's quite not to the point were they figured out how to use it yet," dan nelson, bishop heelan athletic trainer said. in fact, the helmet sensors haven't changed how heelan's coaches and athletic trainers work. bishop heelan's girls volleyball team has had two players with concussions in the past year. while there isn't direct body contact ... concussions occur for other reasons. "i don't think we've done anyting differently from the date we collected , it doesn't really change anything we do," said dan nelson, bishop heelan athletic trainer. "you could maybe see a kid that takes a really hard hit and i'll go over and talk to them and stuff but it doesn't really change [things] i'm not going to pull a kid out of the game for one of those readings." to prevent traumatic brain injuries coaches and trainers undergo training to detect and handle concussions the right way.
