"whether it's teen parents or whether it's older community members infant care is hard to find so it's just a crucial part of one of those tools that helps families be succesful so we're absolutely 100 percent needed," said erica "the west high infant eenter does more than just provide child care services; the center also functions as a space for hands on experience for students in the school district's child development program and because of it's location teenage parents who use the center say it's a huge help," said deborah souverain, abc9 news. "it's way easier. he's here with me, after practice i can pick him up i bring him to school with me," said jaylen roseland. "being able to have a dad come in and hand out, and spend time that is the biggest quality time. it doesn't have to be and fancy or whatever but just to moment is pretty amazing," said erica. the day care, which is owned and operated by the crittenton center....provides services at a reduced rate or free of charge. which makes a world of a difference for young parents like jaylen. "it would be the struggle. it really would," said jaylen. tim: experts say the reason behind the decline in teen pregnancy rates is not clear. however, according to the c-d-c....teens seem to be less sexually active.... and more of those who are .... appear to be using birth control. jenna: today is the deadline to sign- up for health- care through the afordable care act, if you want to have coverage on new year's day. but if you miss it, you'll still have the chance to get coverage through the afordable care end of january. however, your coverage would year. the a-c-a requires americans to fine. people who choose not to get coverage will this year... average penalties thousand- dollars. tim: an early morning pickup versus semi acciddent claimed osceola county. office says the accident happen just after seven, one mile et of sibley. police say 33 year old patrick webb was driving a pickup that went out of control after hitting some ice. the pickup truck slid into the path of a semi truck driven by 60 year old edward wood. webb was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead. wood was not injured. jenna: one person was killed when a church youth van carrying about a dozen passengers collided with a r in nebraska. the car had two people in it. one of them died in the crash and the other was hospitalized in dozen of the people in the van were taken to hospitals. but their injuries were not considered life- threatening. the sheriff explained what happened. (sheriff kevin stukenholtz/ saunders county sheriff's dept.) they were attempting to turn the van around, they missed their turn, so they were turning around on 109, and a southbound passenger vehicle collided with them. there was also another injury. a firefighter directing traffic in the area was struck by a car. his injuries were not life- threatening. tim: the iowa dnr is seeking publ comment on a draft proposed that would ban alchol year round on all state beaches. the proposed ban would apply to the sand or fenced in areas of the beach, the swimming area, and a 200 foot land buffer surrounding sand and fenced in areas. the ban is being considered because incidents have revealed pattern of excessive consumption ofof alchol at several state beaches which threatens and personell. comments can be directed to jessica manken by phone or email through the end of business on monday december 21st. jenna: the woodbury county iowa state university extension office is celebrating a new location. a ribbon cutting ceremony was held this morning at their new office located on southern hills drive in sioux city. cooridinators of the program say, students aren't going to be the only os to benefit from the new facility. (mike shields/congression i think they're going to continue to execute their game plans as they've been doing, it's going to look like some of the other debates, i think you're going to see that volatility more around february first." in las vegas, i'm dianne gallagher reporting. jenna: r feet got a big early christmas present. a group from the 3rd district department of corrections in sioux city have been buying christmas presents and other necessities for tabatha houck (howk) and her family. they helped her load her car to this afternoon with gifts and also box after box of diapers. tabatha has been getting help from the welcome home program. she now has her own place with her four daughters and says she's incredibly thankful for the help she's recieved. tabaththhouck of sioux x ty says, "it does really mean a lot to me that you chose my family out of everybody in sioux city and my girls are going to have a very merry christmas because of them and i just want to thank them for their help." tabatha says she hopes things just keep getting better for her family so she won't need the help next christmas, but she's sure glad someone's looking out for them right now. tim: if you want to help out a family in need, you can also do that through the salvation army's operation toys. there are just two days left to donate. what you need to do is drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any sioux the salvation army, or downtown at the abc9 studio. the salvation army will collect them on thursday and then parents get to come pick out christmas present for their kids. jenna: nearly one-third of americans are expected to travel this holiday season. triple-a says some 100-million people will venture at least 50 miles from home between december 23rd and january third.that's an all-time high for holiday travel. over the last seven years, more and more americans have celedrated the holidays away from home. jenna: coming up after the break... bullying is something that has lasting effects on people coming up later in the show we'll take a closer look at what you can do about them. 'll hear from the head man announced bob nielson as the next head football coach for the coyotes. today, nielson met with the media for the first time. nielson comes to vermillion from western illinois, where he led the leathernecks to the fcs playoffs this past season for the first time since 2010, a feat that earned him missouri valley football coach of the year honors. the 56 year old nielson has an impressive resume, including a career mark of 186-80-1, 10 playoff appearances, and two national championships with minnesoso duluth in 2008 and 2010. nielson has a record of winning, and hopes to continue that in vermillion.
