K C A A. Good morning I'm a. Brick and we're on the brink the morning show on. F.M. 106.5 F.M. 102.3 So excited to have you with us on this what is today Tuesday morning. He's Day Yeah it's Tuesday and we used to say you know we had talked and I had this segment years ago where we would call it gratitude stay like gratitude and Tuesday and so we would say what we're very grateful for and I know that they are now there are some people that are doing thankful Thursday I think it's a good idea I think we should we should bring that back and say what we are grateful for and you know immediately go to Steve Martin's old bit about things I thankful for and it got off into a really weird thing OK I haven't heard that so can you think of a bit yeah you know. OK so it's all in your head you can't enjoy it if you can't share it with the rest of the less All right we'll have to look it up so what are you what do you think feel for Todd besides Steve Martin you know is the more had a line from the movie Arthur it's like sometimes I just think funny thoughts and they would start laughing right asleep for no reason at all. You know what I'm thankful for my family I'm thankful for my friends and thankful for my health something that has been particularly. On and off for me of or of late in the last 2 years and so I'm just happy to see the morning each morning I guess exactly exactly food and a roof over my head air in my lungs. You know a body that still works sort of. And and you know of the people in my life that make life wonderful So yeah I agree with you yeah yeah those are easy ones the reason he wants because it's just that's that So I think everybody can relate to that you know that. Someone in their life that. Is important to them and they're grateful for having them there. So there are people that I'm not grateful for. Speaking people so yeah. Yeah but you know they're they are they keep me grounded will say that you know if life were just easy and you were if you and people were you know you're like Solomon with them when the riches beyond imagination and life was always just easy you know he wasn't happy at Even with all of his wives and concubines and money and food and it cetera et cetera et cetera. You know yeah I would be happy but I'd like to try. He want to be Hugh Hefner for more modern example I don't think he was happy either to be honest with you. I don't know he seemed to be OK. Choices I mean I Every I'm sure everybody has regrets but you know I mean there's a guy who you know the whole. I don't know sex worker lifestyle thing aside I mean he built a business and got to live that business and picked the lifestyle he chose to live and you know I mean I'm sure he had regrets as time went by just like everybody does but you know when you when you get to when you get to be the driver of the car of your own life then then I think that's that's generally a satisfying thing you know but living a life without regrets is not going to happen no it's not because that's just not life. Yeah I mean we tend to add though that one thing about like social media and television and you know this these glossy images that we can that can be so manipulated we tend to see people and think their lives are perfect and if somebody is attractive for example we tend to think that everything is perfect for them well that's hogwash you course you're not but what we believe it is so we judge ourselves by what we feel and we judge others by what we see because we can we don't know what they feel but it leads us to make assumptions about people you know people that are attractive in people who aren't attractive Yeah well on the on the job or on that line of thought I think that you know that probably that people who are attractive have certain wheels greased for them the people who are less attractive don't but then they have other issues as well that they have to deal with indeed you know. I remember it was a shock for me in high school I think it was my junior senior year and. We were doing an. Art Club project painting murals on campus and so we were after school painting girls and I remember walking back from paying the murals with just 2 of us myself and another girl in the club who was a friend of mine. And she's very attractive girl and people across the street started yelling and howling outer You know and kept calling her and I'm and I was just shocked I always thought that was something from like a fifty's movie and you know I like started to respond and tell people to shut up and you know and I was going it was irritating me and she's just like ignore it ignore it it happens all the time just ignore keep going you know and I you know I can imagine what it was like for her to you know as a young lady to be walking around and having you know old people my age now yeah you know hollering and yelling at you and you know targeting you yet and when you're 1617 and 18 you were old. Yeah when you're 30 year old and so anybody that's like out of their twenty's would be ancient and. Yeah so the I'm sure that was uncomfortable for her and it was clear that she had been dealing with that for a period of time already because she handled it you know without any issues and just kept on going but for me it was just mind blowing that this was going on because it seemed like I said something that out of a fifty's movie Yak I see look at the dame over there and and I just yeah it was just strange but you know that's just a example of you never know how threatening these guys could actually be a right and right but but this is an example of something that you know you think that that that that pretty person doesn't have to deal with any issues in the day they have issues of their own that they have to deal with do and they're taken less seriously but they're female they're taken less seriously there it's assumptions are made about them being stupid we've had this conversation before you know in reference to who is the she's in a Bond movie playing a nuclear scientist and the girl is just not the sharpest tool in Georgia she was married to Charlie Sheen What was her name and I said Richard Zare Hugo and I was I was talking about her you know it's a she was completely implausible in this role and you said now you're making judgments based on how she looks that she can also be smart I'm like well no Denise Richards actually isn't but yeah you're right I was making judgement Yeah yeah you know you think of and now I'm going to blink on her name the actress who played with me Cooper and she's. You know got a Ph D. In mathematics Yeah and it still lacks I don't even understand the title of her pick her thesis Yeah. It's you yes she was like a nominated for an award or as as a co-author of this this this research that she did yes you know and she's authored books on girls in math and trying to get them interested in math you know and she still chooses. To act now she's and she's adorable Yeah yeah I mean as an adult she's she's a grown up lady Cooper she's she's a beautiful woman and obviously highly intelligent and you know that Denise Richards is not her No no that is you know sitting there in Charlie Sheen Well I get that you know I mean I don't know her personally so I'm going to withhold judgment. But yeah that speaks volumes she married her and she married Charlie Sheen because he's got tiger blood. So with that it's time for a break I'm Erin Brinker and I'm Todd Brinker and we're on the brink the morning show on K.C.A.L. Welcome back I'm here in breaker and I'm Chad brick and we're on the brink the morning show on K C A am 1050 F.M. One o 6.5 F.M. 102.3 So there's been all kinds of headlines lately about. This mystery illness linked to vaporing in some kids have died this is. A long illness that is caused by people using these electronic cigarettes the California Department of Public Health investigated 57 potential cases of acute long disease among people with recent history of a ping and this is just been since June some cases involve people who bape cannabis products purchased from unlicensed sources though the agency has not provided a specific number of those people on Friday health authorities in L.A. County announced the 1st known death in a state associated with being a marijuana product and the death is under investigation the disclosure came on the day the U.S. Health officials renewed calls for people to stay away from a cigarettes until the cause of the illness is determined officials have identified about 450 possible cases and as many as 5 deaths in 33 states most patients report using both nicotine and T.H.C. And of course that's the psychotropic compound in marijuana. Cigarettes are battery powered devices heating liquid some to a liquid substance called the liquid or each use that contains nicotine flavorings and other additives and the additives can be like bubble gum or you know Apple and they want it's basically unregulated and that's the problem that's the problem but I say the bubble gum because I think it's marketed towards children. Dr Daniel Danielle Ramo or Rama Oh a San Francisco clinical psychologist who has researched the impact of a ping has a an associate professor of psychiatry at U.C. San Francisco and the research director of hope lab says while the cases of lung disease remain under investigation it is clear that they pings the cause there's no equivocation they don't know what the mechanism is necessarily although they think that they might be onto it but they know that it's coming from vaporing. She says that she has worked with teens fighting babying addictions because nicotine as we know is addictive while health officials haven't released the ages of the lung disease patients part I have to sneeze Scuse me. The prevalence among teenagers is unclear at this point it's crucial for parents to have conversations with their children about the risks issues should be discussed include the risk issues that that should be discussed include the risk of exposure of some toxins and cigarettes the ricks the risks of long term nicotine addiction but beyond that you know this you know you're just blah you're sucking in your lungs you don't even know what it is and nobody else does either and so you don't know what it's doing you know in lung cancer you know just regular old cigarettes is pretty awful you know in this Yazid Well any kind of lung disease is bad I mean is it it's you don't realize how bad it is until you see somebody who's dealing with some form of a lung disease or C O P D and how how you slowly die from that because you're just not getting enough law oxygen in your body to live and you know I mean this is. Unfortunately one of those areas where a lot of people put a lot of trust in in a manufacturer that essentially has not earned any trust and a lot of you know and some of these companies are are tied to the nicotine industry or the macro industry who already have abused people's trust for decades you know and it's just you don't know what it is you're sucking in your lungs don't do this it's a bad bad thing yeah so but the there's. The University of Utah is actually reporting and I just found this tots I haven't sent to you the. First marker for the mysterious vague being illness has been identified so the presence of a fat fat laden cells in the lungs could assist with the diagnosis and understanding the cause of the disease doctors have identified previously unrecognized characteristics of the vague being related respiratory illness that has been an emerging in clusters across the U.S. Within the lungs of these patients are large immune cells containing numerous oily droplets called limpid Lavan Laden microfiche is a finding may allow doctors to definitively diagnose what's going on and so they're working on it they're certainly working on it high sure. But it's not safe guys I think a lot of people who are gaping are thinking oh it's just water vapor I mean my mom used to have me inhale you know the vapor off of a boiling pan of water to when my when I was congested to loosen up my my chest you know when I was a kid in a lot of people think that and the thing is is that there's oil some things in there too that you're sucking in your lungs and those stick to the inside of your lungs it's not just water vapor Well it is let others know a lot of chemicals as well exactly started stopped on either get me into. A lesser vaporing fix. Not the same thing. And who would do that. And why. You know and I mean it and yeah I mean I don't know it's just it's you're sucking it directly into your lungs too it's not like the old vaporizer when you were a kid that you know spews it off into the room and you get a little bit of it in your lungs are sucking it directly into your logs and it being who knows what So the long scans from patients with this vague being illness they look like a serious viral or bacterial case of pneumonia but then they test for the pathogen and it kept those tests come back negative. You know so if you know pneumonia is damaging your lungs right and so if your lungs look like you've got a bad case of it. You probably it's safe to assume that you know you're damaging your lungs I'm just saying. Stay tuned folks because they'll be more information I'm glad that the University of Utah and I'm sure others are working on this issue now at the same time N.Y.U. Doctors are warning Los Angeles you may be hit with yet another medieval disease and this one is really scary you know what it is you know but they're all pretty scary are pretty scary leprosy. Right isn't that great that's great. It's still open so Dr Marc Siegel of N.Y.U. Use land go on health he wrote in The Hill you know the publication the hill he notes that the C.D.C. Reports that between 10200 new cases of leprosy are annually reported in the U.S. I have no idea and he adds that a U.S.C. Study found that one that of the 187 leprosy patients treated in its clinic this week between 197328000 they most came from Mexico where leprosy is more common. Leprosy is still more prevalent in Central and South America more than $20000.00 new cases per year happen down there given that there is certainly a possibility of sporadic cases of leprosy continue continuing to be brought across our southern border and detected and you know that it's you know it seems like he sees this is Siegel's quote It seems that only it's only a matter of time before leps leprosy could take hold among the homeless population in areas such as L.A. County with close to 60000 homeless people and 75 percent of those lacking even temporary shelter or adequate hygiene and medical treatment all of those factor make it perfect cauldron for a contagious disease that is transmitted by nasal droplets and respiratory secretions with close repeated contact contact the Daily Mail notice notes that leprosy or Hansen's disease. Is it has this the bacteria behind the infection the mica mycobacterium Lepper a attacks nerves in the body which can lead to the characteristic peeling skin untreated this can cause paralysis of the hands in feet so it's really awful we have to deal with. We have to deal with our homeless issue with you know we had that happen type of a outbreak we had a typhus outbreak there was even talk of typhoid which is a different disease you know in and around all of those homeless population so you know just OK we. I want to give you something more to worry about like leprosy Yeah you know if you're if you're living if you if you create living conditions that are not unlike the Middle Ages then you are goi
