Presence in hollywood and overseas. The latest were given, the talks have since stopped or stalled, whoever you believe. Nicole pettalides has more. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. We saw the stocks correlation through the breaking news. We saw, for example, fox was down and then we had this news that broke throughout the afternoon. You saw it showed up around 1 30 p. M. That happened with fox, disney and funny enough, cbs. We heard from basically we reached out to 20th century fox. They declined to comment. We also reached out to disney waiting on a response. The wall street journal put out this news that disney may be acquiring a stake. With that, we also have heard from wall street journal and sources that the talks are no longer active. Of course, this was a developing story and the only thing that we know that is fact is the stock movement. By the end of the day, the stocks did jump and moved higher as i noted. A 9 gain for 20th century fox and disney up 2 . Again, developing news. Very preliminary. Its developing. So well continue to follow it. The wall street journal, the latest that they have now talks no longer active. Well see how it goes. Neil all right, Nicole Pettalides at the new york stock exchange. This happened at a time when companies are crunching the numbers. One of the reasons why broadcome is looking to pay 103 billion for qualcomm. That in a second. Suffice it to say, the low Interest Rates and potentially much lower taxes. Its a long way from done. This is a live look at the nations capitol. The markup of the tax bill is underway. Could be an involved process. To chad pergram with more. What are we looking at with here, chad . This is the markup session in the ways and Means Committee where they go through the bill line by line over the next several days. Probably by thursday. Then they will report out a bill. We expect some changes, possibly something on the individual mandates. Something that we found out about this bill here is that theres actually a sixth bracket that deals with taxing the very wealthy. In other words, if you pay a Million Dollars or so or you earn a Million Dollars on the first 200,000 of that, above the Million Dollar threshold, you get hit with what they call a bubble tax. 6 . Its a surcharge. Theres bubble taxes. This goes against the republican orthodoxy of not taxing the rich. They want to lower the rates for the wealthy. Theyre the investors and own Small Businesses and so on and so forth. This would hit about 438,000 tax file ires here. It would bring in about 50 billion in revenue. Thats not a lot. If this goes through, neil, this new bubble tax, its important because this is the first time that the top tax bracket for filers for the most wealthy would be above 40 since the 1986 reagan tax cuts. Neil a lot of them are paying at or near that with the medicare sur taxes and the like. So a lot of them have had a chance to chew on this the last few days. Theyre brooding. Theyre not happy with this, are they . Yeah, thats one of the things that people will book at, to see what the details are in this final bill. It was funny. I talked to one member of congress earlier. He commented, said maybe the details wont matter because republicans so desperate to try to packs this tax bill in the next couple days here, get it through committee, get it through the house of reps next week. Next week we expect the senate bill. A lot of permanence in the bills that the house of representatives put out. But whatever the senate puts out could upset the apple cart. We talk about them trying to fix the state and local taxes for the new york and new jersey members. Theres members from the california delegation, 13 california republicans. Ive been sent some hand signals in the past couple days that they might not be on. Consider how close that vote was on the budget frame work a couple weeks ago in october. Neil thank you. Two votes that would have changed things. Neil still might. I want to go to texas for the update on the conditions of those ten that have been hospitalized. Were here to honor the group of First Responders from san antonio ems and San Antonio Fire Department who saved the life of a shooting victim, mr. Tobias walker by controlling his severe bleeding before he reached the hospital here. It required an unusual amount of hemorrhage control because of his condition t skills they used are basic skills that can be taught to the general public. Because we know that ems cant be everywhere, Law Enforcement cant be everywhere at the same time, often if youre going to be involved in some type of an event where youre injured or bleeding, the First Responder may be your buddy, may be your husband, your wife, your friend or it may be a total stranger. So the stopthebleed campaign is an initiative to teach the majority of the populous of the country basic bleeding control techniques. So yesterday as in yesterdays terrible shooting in southerland springs shows us, along with other mass casualty events in the last several years, we can never know when these skills may be important to us. But they will be important. Before i bring the First Responders up to recognize their heroic efforts, i want to speak a little bit about the events of the mass casualty event that unfolded here yesterday from the Southerland Springs Church shooting. Its on the forefront of everybodys mind and plays into the initiative that were intended to teach here. First of all here at university hospital, we received nine patients from the shooting incident. We had four children, five adults. One of the children died. We currently have three adults and three children in the hospital. Their conditions are from serious to very critical. We actually had a couple of adults and a child that was, as i discussed, died in the hospital. I should also mentioned that this is not Just University hospital. Our hospital is part of a bigger trauma system. Part of that system actually includes the san antonio military medical center, which is the other adult 1 Trauma Center in the city. Brooke Army Medical Center saw eight patients. So again, this collaboration is richly supported by the community and actually is really the foundation of the trauma system. In one sense, the timing of the incident played into our response. Yesterday we happened to be having our annual or normal credentialling review by the American College of surgeons verification review team. So happened that we had seven trauma surgeons here when we got the first call about the mass casualty event. Which is great, except a trauma surgeon without this and without all the staff is really just a set of hands. Were useless. So how did this come about . So i have to say that, you know, we in south texas are the beneficiaries of an extremely sophisticated trauma system that is basically the southwest Texas RegionalAdvisory Council for trauma or strac. Strac was generated neil were going to continue monitoring this, the latest on those that survived this horrific shooting. At first there were nine injuries reported involving four children and five adults. One of the children died. So three children still in the hospital. Three adults remain in the hospital. Two released earlier this morning. Six remain hospitalized. The read on this from assistant director ron hoskow from the fbi. Ron, so much we dont know about the shooter what motivated him. We know that he was able to kill his wifes grandmother. His intent was unknown, even know. You know, terror is terror, right . Whether its a sign to isis or foreign elements or home grown or those having nothing to do with isis. We know in this case, this guy failed you have to get a gun permit. He still had a gun. What happened . Neil, we you and i discussed the unthinkable repeatedly in the last year or so. Here we are again discussing what is unthinkable. The sad reality, at this point in 2017, its not unthinkable. Its happening with what seems like greater frequency and greater impact. You know, someone who has shown a propensity to harm not only his spouse but a child. Comes in to a church and bent on mass destruction, gunning down innocence across the board, especially children. Feels like somehow something has failed. The system has allowed him to come into possession of a weapon, despite the fact that were hearing today depression or serious Mental Illness in his past. His activities while in the air force that cost him a year in the brigg and then this bad conduct discharge. Somewhere the system feels like its failing. The dots are not being connected. You and i discussed in the past, the Mental Illness aspect that will be shown as clearly part of this. Again, how do we get that information from the Mental Illness, the medical system or the treatment system into the fbi system so that someone is absolutely prohibited possessor and they dont get a gun . Neil what little we do know, Devin Patrick kelley had been sending threatening texts to his motherinlaw. And he was angry. That was known to a lot of people that knew him. Im wondering, whatever sailed him to get a gun permit, he get his hands on a gun. Now people are saying the gun laws are too loose if they dont tighten that up. How could that be, if the gun laws in place had made sure that a guy like this wouldnt get a permit or the right to get his hands on a gun . What has to be tightened up here . What little we do know of his anger and his history of abusive language . Yeah, its sometimes thats the hard part. You know, look, we know that the motherinlaw jokes are everywhere out there. Theyre borne from reality, that sons in law have problems with mothers in law, but they dont manifest themselves in hunting down the motherinlaw and her family and her flock sitting in church. So theres a reality there. The challenge for Law Enforcement, friends and family, when is the anger so intense and so focused that it draws significant concern and should draw Police Attention or Mental Health help . What are some of the things that you see coming from somebody that is angry and has had a change in their life that is momentous, so focused and so troubling that it ought to draw us to see something Say Something . As opposed to just saying hey, look, calm down. That happens in america many more times than this happens in america. But i think there is an opportunity to strengthen gun laws. Certainly peertopeer purchases of we pens. Theres talk about gun show loop hole, a lot of people running background checks through the fbi at gun shows. The problem is when you go in the parking lot with somebody carrying an ak or ar, theyre not checking. Neil ron, thanks very much. Again, the motherinlaw in question is texting she wasnt there. Her mother was. Shes dead. Congressman henry claire is next. With an ingredient originally discovered. In jellyfish. In clinical trials, prevagen has been shown to improve shortterm memory. Prevagen. The name to remember. So we sent that sample i doff to ancestry. I was from ethnically. My ancestry dna results are that i am 26 nigerian. I am just trying to learn as much as i can about my culture. I put the gele on my head and i looked into the mirror and i was trying not to cry. Because its a hat, but its like the most important hat ive ever owned. Discover the story only your dna can tell. Over 90 years later, we continue to build as americas 3rd largest investor in infrastructure. We dont just help power the american dream. Were part of it. Neil we are still monitoring this presser going on as we speak in texas right now where theyre updating on the number of injured down to six right now, three children, one died over the past 24 hours. Three adults remain in the hospital in varying degrees of critical condition, were told. This area includes the district represented by Texas Democrat henry cuellar. Thanks for being here. Thanks so much. Neil what do we know about the assailant . We know he was sending a lot of nasty texts. We know he failed to get a gun permit yet he had a gun. What do we know, congressman . Yesterday when i talked to the sheriff and some other folks, they gave me some of this information. Based on what i was because i know where this person was from. I know i represent southerland springs. He didnt just find this place. I was saying yesterday, there has to be some sort of connection, some sort of nexus. This is what i think were seeing. The motherinlaw of there was a connection there. Its a sad place. If you look at it, this is a small little community, very close knit. Everybody knows each other. I think when the final names are released of the people that got killed and got either got injured, people will know everybody there. Its a very Small Community. Im very familiar with that community. Even though theyre facing this grieving period, this healing period, its a community that is going to come together. Were going to do everything to be helpful to this community. Neil i have no doubt about that. But kelley lived 30 some odd miles from this church. Do you know what connection he had to it . I know his motherinlaw went there. I know he grandmother died. The motherinlaw wasnt there at the time. Was this meant to target them . Do we know anything . We dont know. Ive been in contact with the sheriff. Id rather let Law Enforcement talk about the motives itself. Since yesterday, ive been saying there has to be some nexus. You dont just speak this small rural area without having a nexus. Thats where the investigation will lead us to. Neil theres so much we dont know to your proper point, sir. But we know enough that he left a pretty intense social media profile when it came to texts that were angry and should have sent alarms up. His former wife and her family relayed those to authorities. So much that we havent been able to ascertain. Do you think that should be the purview of Law Enforcement if messages are angry or to the degree these were, threatening, that they should be made aware . A lot of privacy advocates here that say go slowly. What do you think . Its something that we need to talk about. Certainly red flags of when we see this, whose purview is it to look at the red flags. If you know something, tell something. A lot of questions that we need to look at. I think its we need to look at Lessons Learned from here. This is something that we saw in las vegas. I mean, not the same type of facts but were seeing killings. We need to look at Lessons Learned and see where we need to go from here. Neil thank you, sir. My thoughts and prayers to your constituents. Thank you so much. Neil all right. Meantime, there are elections tomorrow in virginia and new jersey. They could telegraph how things go next year, maybe. Maybe not. Were on it after this. Paying less for my medicare . Im open to that. Lower premiums . Extra benefits . Its open enrollment. Time to open the laptop. And compare Medicare Health plans. Why . Because plans change, so can your health needs. So, be openminded. Look at everythinglike Prescription Drug plans. And Medicare Advantage plans from private insurers. Use the tools at medicare. Gov. Or call 1800medicare. Open to Something Better . Start today. The high command of brooklyn, the people making the decisions for the dnc, they didnt come and work with us. They told us to shut up and basically let them win the election. Neil all right. Could all of this recent infighting among democrats continue ahead of two key gubernatorial races tomorrow in virginia where you have democrats taking on republicans and in new jersey between phil murphy and ken widano . Chris christies lieutenant governor. This is like a wild card race in virginia. Play it out for me. I think its more of an issue in virginia than new jersey. In new jersey, the margins are far, this is not unlike the president ial campaign. Everything was within the margin of error. In virginia, a 2. 8 difference. Were talking about a major crisis that came up like in november of last year. So were looking at this is the issue going out of the dnc. What that is saying, are the democrats on the side of the American People . I think even though gillispy is and establishment candidate, hits very antiestablish meant. Hes taking a page out of the trump playbook and could have a big impact on the people of virginia. Is it just going to be this issue of Donna Brazile and what shes saying about the dnc and fixing the candidates . Its not sure its that. Theres this overall perception that the government is not working for the people. Theres an overall perception that the parties are tying the hands of the people. So i think that this could really have a big, big impact. I also think when you look at a shooting over the weekend, that will have a lot of impact on people want to have the right to have guns or how they want to feel safe. And a whole host of issues. Look at advertisements that democrats ran. Really insulting advertisements about what they said that republicans want to carry their guns and wave the confederate flag. It show as lack of understanding of the American People that want to support traditional neil you can argue the backdrop for all of this is still frustration with the president and his polling numbers. Very slow. Watching an abc poll. Might be deemed fake news. But it does show his support at an alltime low. Among his base, very strong. The base could come out in both of these states in virginia where it could turn the tide. New jersey seems to be a more uphill climb. But do races telegraph, how add they are, how the mid tern could go . Eight years ago you could have argued that those gubernatorial ballots that brought in Chris Christie telegraphed something that was going to half in the following years midterms. What do you think . Its an interesting point. You think about it, what will happen right now based on what we know, we know that the president ial Approval Rating is at an alltime low. But the races are really close. Thats not usually what were seeing. So what i think all of this underscores is people want a antiestablishment, something that will change things up and deliver what the people want. Much more of a populous message. Its not just a warning sign, its a warning sign to really establishment candidates that they need to get with the program and start speaking to the people in a way that resonates, authentic and a way that people will trust them again. Its not just the president s Approval Ratings. Its the congress, all institutions. People dont trust the same things they did before. So the candidates will have to look at that carefully. So when bannon talks about putting candidates out there, and the i establishment candidates, thats who i am worried about and who to look at in the midterms. Neil thanks, leigh. Well be live covering the elections at 8 00 p. M. Till whenever because they have a big consequence for you and your money and your future. As as i said, could telegraph how the midterms go. Oftentimes they do well watch that closely. Meanwhile, you know about the latest shooting. The latest in texas. Bishop t. D. Jakes on how we can step back and deal. Okay folks lets get the lady of the house back on her feet. And help her feel more strength and energy in just two weeks. Yaaay the complete balanced nutrition of ensure with 9 grams of protein and 26 vitamins and minerals. Ensure. Always be you. Neil big deals, the talk of big tax cuts. The dow, nasdaq and s p 500 closing at record highs to this crowd, worry is not an option. After this. Neil you know, they just sort of numb you after a while. Think about this. 26 dead. 20 wounded. Horrific shooting at a church, a church in texas. The youngest, 18 months. The oldest, 77. To bishop t. D. Jakes on how we can cope. Sometimes its nothing to do with religion and our inner being. He joins us right now. Bishop, i hate to meet with you on an occasion like this. A lot of people come back and say god is there to support us and get us through this, but they come back and say why did god let this happen . What do you say . You know, thats a common question that you get during times like these. I think that that kind of shifts the responsibility for what is going on in this country into the heavenly realm. So many things that we can do as men that would help situations like this that before we laid the blame at the feet of the cross, we really need to look at the way we handle guns, the way we love people, the way we report warning signs, the way why have dysfunctions in the people that are mentally incompetent. This isnt an act of god. Its an act of man. A terrible act at that. We dont really try to equate that with being a move of god. So many things that we can do as men that will help alleviate these tragedies. Neil youre right about that. Im wonder if theres something were missing. In the case of gun laws, they might not have changed things. I dont want to get into a gun law debate. This guy had a gun. He had a long record and sending nasty threatening texts and authorities were not alerted or didnt act or both. So youre right. Theres gapping holes in our system this allow this kind of thing to happen more frequently than we would like. Neil, we have to look at the whole case that is reported. People threatening to go off the edge, people that we work with, live with, love, care about. We have to be more observant and take them more seriously. At least having a very serious discussion about it. Churches have to look at how we can be better protected. Theres just a whole list of things we have to consider to diminish the amount of horrific tragedies that we keep saying on television over and over again. Neil we have learned in our society increasingly and maybe gotten increasingly violent, a disproportionate number of shootings to your point. They say that that is an issue that is uniquely american. Of course, we see it abroad and well. On a per capita basis, you can make an argument both ways. Do you get a sense when you talk to parishioners and they live in fear and they live wondering whether they will be next. I heard someone this morning saying maybe we should lock churches. Maybe we should be inspecting who comes in. Even frisk them. How do you feel about that . You know, we dont want to go overboard but we want to be cautious. Every pastor, every leader feels responsible to create a safe environment for people to come and worship and to have fellowship. Its difficult to control relatives and inlaws and all of those sorts of things to except them from being in service. Weve had security at the Potters House for a number of years because were blatantly aware of these problems and how they come up in any gathering when you have crowds neil what does that mean, bishop . You attract thousands. How do you handle that . We have Police Officers directing traffic from the moment we come in. We have security inside the building. We have some safety officers that are aware to look for things and be vigilant. All of our ushers are trained to be observant of those sorts of things. We Work Together as a team. The same way that our country has to Work Together as a team. Its not just one pill that we take and all of this goes away. We all have a responsibility to be vigilant, to be watchful and to be observant. When we see something, to try to help people resolve it without the loss of life that were seeing here today, which is just an absolute its heart breaking to watch it. Neil im just thinking, its one thing for large event sites like your own when you have a sunday service. Its quite another for all of these relatively small churches. I can go back to what happened in texas over the weekend or in charleston two years ago. But we might have to rethink all of that, huh . I we have to rethink it. Its not just churches. Its theaters, its restaurants. Were seeing it displayed in every place where people are gathered together. Were having to think differently than our parents did about how we protect those with whom we have to do. But i think it starts before the event. I want to go back and underscore. It starts in the house, around the dinner table. It starts in arguments and discussions over the phone. We have to take these things more seriously. When we do reach out to the police department, they have to take them more seriously as well. So many times when we do report something, if we dont have an actual incident, it is often disregarded. We have to rethink how we process the kinds of problems and the stress factor that you mentioned, which is so prevalent amongst all people today. People are so stressed out, theyre on the verge. People that you thought wouldnt do that flip over the edge so easily. We have to be our brothers keeper. Neil few and far between. But the few obviously do wreak a great deal of havoc. Thanks for taking the time. A pleasure. Thanks for having me. Neil t. D. Jakes. More after this. [vo] quickbooks introduces jeanette and her new mobile wedding business. At first, getting paid was tough. Until she got quickbooks. Now she sends invoices, sees when theyve been viewed andtadahpaid twice as fast for free. Visit quickbooksdotcom. Neil do you have any u. S. Bonds or treasuries . I dont know. Neil really . We only invest in stocks. Neil thats not to say you have little faith in the country. No. My faith is through investing in the stock market. Neil all right. Hes out. A very big shakeup that included the guy that they warned warren buffet in the middle east. Saudi prince alwaleed. Fox Business Networks charlie gasparino, gary calphon. What do you think of this shakeup in saudi arabia, theyre placing these guys under house arrest. What is going on here . Youre a monarchy with no written constitution and courts and trying to solidify power in a few peoples hands and this is what you get, this is what corruption is all about. I dont think it will affect anything. Theres just greed. They had two weeks ago a big Investment Conference that was on tv across the globe. They know they got to continue to grow their business and diversify. Thats why theyre getting to these other areas. I think nothing will change as we move forward. At that Investment Conference, its not as if the new sheik in charge said he would be corralling all of the threats to the kingdom. It is what it is. Didnt really affect our markets or the Global Markets and broadcom offering more than 100 billion for qualcomm and talks for disney and fox were in talks with each other. So is this as big of a deal were making it out to be . When a major businessman prince alwaleed is one of the biggest today. He has big positions in our company, 20th century fox. Citi group. He was the board member that citi group listened to for years. When he jumped, they said how high . Neil who is doing that now . I dont know. I dont know who he will be giving his number to. You know, heres the interesting thing. You put this guy in jail. Who happens to the portfolio . I dont know. It will have some impact. Its not a global threat like 9 11 was. Thats for sure. It was interesting. Gary hit it out of the park, this is the playbook that these countries use all the time. They go out there, they when certain leaders look to sort of consolidate power, they start gelling the business guys that were associated with the old regime. A lot of times they take over their wealth. Vladimir putin has done it. They have done it in china and doing it here. Its what separates us from them. Thats something that listen, why do people why does prince alwaleed buy stocks in the u. S. . Because we have a rule of law. Its not like one guy neil then i worry about it. People have this idea that saudi arabia is a stable kingdom and everything else. Theyre dealing with a lot of internal friction. Its not accidental like these moves like letting women drive, but in that country its a progressive move but theyre not the most secure or stable. What do you make of that in a longterm potential impact on us . It tells you theyre not stable by just what theyre doing. What is happening i think the guy is 32yearold prince. Hes wellfollowed. I hate this because i know charlie and millennials, its big millennial time in saudi arabia time. Thats why theyre looking at changing what is happening there, moving forward. In order to move forward, looks like theyre moving backwards by just rounding up everybody. By the way, theyre calling this phase one of the roundup. So this is just chapter one. There will be more well hear about in the days and weeks ahead. We have a lot at stake here. Saudi arabia is sort of our is an ally of ours against iran. We placed our bets with this new guy. Yeah. So much so, trump is trying to get them to list the new saudi arampco deal. Neil is that still on . Yes. But hes trying to get them to enlist in the stock exchange. Which is funny. Neil yeah. Charlie, gary, thanks very much. In the meantime, ken paxton will be joining us. He has an update on this investigation not only into the texas shooting but what made the shooter do it. So little we dont know. Maybe something he does after this. Neil all right. The latest on this investigation into the texas church shooting. On the phone with us, Texas Attorney general, ken paxton. Mr. Attorney general, thanks for taking the time. What do you know about the assailant, about devin kelley and whether he had his sights set on this church because his motherinlaw went there, the mother law went there, the grandmother did go. Shes dead. Obviously 25 others are. This church was a focus for them. Yes. The family went there. It played a part. Because hes deceased, its difficult to get in somebodys head when they cant speak to you. It was clear that he was connected because of family. He found it was an easy target. He knew First Responders were probably far away given it was a Small Community and no local police department, just sheriff department. He was playing on both of those factors. Neil do we know how he got a gun when he failed to get a permit . That is something being looked at right now. We dont have all of the information on that. Given his history in the military, the fact that he had issues in the military and shouldnt have been able to get a gun, i dont think. I think that is an open question right now. In light of this latest mass shooting, a lot of people are saying we obviously have to take more precautionary measures. In new york last week, theyre putting up concrete dividers and blockades in a bicycle path. I just talked to t. D. Jakes who had been saying at his facility, which thousands congregate for services, theres police protection. They check what you bring in. Thats another matter for small churches like this one. What are your thoughts on that . We have to pay more attention to this. We know its going to happen again. We go to a large church in dallas. We have a lot of security there. For smaller charges and smaller for schools and businesses, they need to think through their policies on what theyre going to do if Something Like this occurs. Maybe is people in the congregation trained and prepared. If somebody is shooting an automatic weapon, even a suburban area, youre losing hundreds of people quickly in five to seven minutes. Neil the reason why its come up again, you know, general, a lot of buildings in New York Post 9 11, you need to path security to get in. Now its common place in big cities, certainly in manhattan. I can not imagine the next level would be locking churches or screening parishioners. Maybe its a sign of the time. That could happen in some churches, but the very least you need to have a plan in place for what youre going to do if an incident like this occurs. Theres a possibility of at least mitigating loss. Neil yeah. Another thing, and i just wanted your quick thoughts right now, is there already looking at gun laws in the like. This goes not appear to have been motivated by that or some slipup here because he did find a way to get a gun even though under existing laws he failed a permit that would have allowed him to get one. I dont understand the argument here. Given the fact that this guy was willing to violate lates to the length of killing people, having another gun law wont help. All it does is impact lawabiding citizens to protect themselves. We want that. Neil thanks, attorney general ken paxton. Thanks very much. Thanks for having me on. Shepard two big states are having gubernatorial elections. Youre saying why does that mean . Because it can affect how voting goes a year later. Ill explain.
