Puerto rico. Joe bastardi on what were looking at here. I had a chance to talk to the powers that be in puerto rico and theyre gearing up toe get people hunkered down right know. This has a chance to be the worst Natural Disaster recorded in puerto rico. This storm is likely to be a category five and bisect the island from southeast to northwest. I cant imagine a worst case scenario. Hugo in 1989 was a category four on the extreme northeast hip of puerto rico. This will be worse than hugo. It appears to be Getting Better organized this afternoon. The pressure is falling and puerto rico will take a direct hit from as catastrophic a hurricane that i can imagine for that island. Neil this particular storm and how it accelerated, sped up, became so big so fast what is the deal with that . Weve seen it with several storms. We tried to explain before the year that there was a certain type of pattern setting up in the Atlantic Basin that was very favorable for these storms at the height of the season to ramp up and keep the general Movement Towards the United States. Its a pattern that is different from the last 10, 11 years, having to do with the surface pressure pattern across the United States in the north atlantic, a lot of higher than normal pressure. We saw how cool the month of august was in the United States. When you have an oscillation with the atlantic in the warm stage and an area that gets cool like over the United States, that is literally a resistance to the normal flow that is coming towards the United States. When that air piles up, imagine these waves coming westward and the air is piling quicker than normal. Over the tropics, they feedback quickly and spin back very quickly. So its a type of situation where we have seen this before, but we havent seen it recently. Its called rapid feedback intensification. Its a vicious loop until the storm can develop so strongly that its actual frictional effects turn it back the other way. So weve seen these things before. Its unfortunate theyre happening in close to land. Neil thank you very much. Well keep an eye on it. Meantime, were taking a look at the gas and related prices here. Right now that has been a constant. The other big natural story here, and that is a massive earthquake striking central mexico, particularly in an around mexico city. Whatter wi er witter with w right now, it happened in morelos south of mexico city. Causing smoke to be in mexico city and around buildings that appeared to have chanced. Office buildings shaken and widows shattered. Lets go to rick astor. Rick, this area is no stranger to earthquakes. They had one that was fairly significant a couple weeks ago. This in a much more populated region. What does this tell you about what happens now . Youre correct, this is different than the other earthquake in mexico. It wasnt a highly pop you lated area. It was a fairly large earthquake. 7. 1. Significant. It was rather deep. Its place where the fault slip was over 30 miles below the surface. That reduced the potential damage somewhat. Were looking at a significant earthquake here in mexico. Neil this particular one, what were seeing about the buildings, some holding up well, others not, they have been prepared for this like you have a lot of communities in the path of hurricanes and getting to be more resistant. Mexico has had to deal with it. But its sometimes luck of the draw, right . Thats right. Mexico has made strides. This is not going to be nothing like the 1985 earthquake which occurred on this date in mexico city. Theres a lot of old construction in mexico. It takes many decades to make your buildings more resilient. Neil its the luck where you are, too. Its a densely populated city and area. When you look at the fallout for Something Like this, theres always aftershocks, what do you envision here . What do mexicans have to look out for in the area or region . There will be strong after shocks. Another strong chance of another strong earthquake. Its not a high probability. Approximately 10 Million People felt strong ground motion in this earthquake. Were anticipating casualties and were also seeing early indications of that. Again, its a significant event in mexico. Its not a worst case. Were preparing ourselves for difficult times for the mexican people in recovering for this. The earthquake severity and the number over the last year, you keep track of this. You did in your days monitoring these worldwide. How has earthquake activity been besides places in haiti and elsewhere where it could be more dangerous and disastrous given the fact that they have so few structures able to withstand minor tremors . Right. What is changing in the world so that we have much larger cities and more people in harms way. So its a race against building smarter buildings and Public Education and the geological inevitability of larger earthquakes. Shepard just as you were guesstimating, rick, we are getting confirmation from mexico citys mayor that there are people apparently trapped in collapsed buildings in and around the city. For a lot of those folks and the rescue effort is complicated by those aftershocks you talked about, right . Indeed. Strong aftershocks are a significant hazard during the early period of recovery from an event like this. The epicenter was closer to pueblo, which is a little over three Million People in the immediate area. So east of mexico city. Its not just mexico city that was affected in terms of large urban areas. Thanks, rick aster. Going to bring you an update on this. Theres been a major earthquake in and around the mexico city region. No stranger to those type of developments here. 7. 1 on the richter scatter and reports of people in numerous buildings that have collapsed or are collapsing. Were keeping you atop of Hurricane Maria now, a category five storm that is headed directly for puerto rico and puerto ricos governor telling me and confirmed by his predecessor today that theyre doing anything and everything to stay out of harm i way and advising everybody to head inland. This thing is so land, it dwarfs the side of puerto rico. Its expected to take a right turn away from the continental United States. More after this. Have you any wool . No sir, no sir, some nincompoop stole all my wool sweaters, smart tv and gaming system. Luckily, the Geico Insurance agency recently helped baa baa with renters insurance. Everything stolen was replaced. And the hooligan who lives down the lane was caught selling the stolen goods online. Visit geico. Com and see how easy it is to switch and save on renters insurance. Neil all right. We told you about this somewhat one earthquake in mexico city. Donald trump has tweeted out just moments ago, god bless the people of mexico city. Were with you and well be there for you. We had reports of mexico citys mayor saying theres a number of collapsed buildings and a number of people trapped in them. You can imagine in a densely populated city like mexico city and the surrounding areas, i believe among the most densely populated on the planet, that that would be a major concern. The president indicating these there to help whenever and wherever. The United States stands by the mexican people. To john roberts right now. Speaking of the president with him all day at the United Nations with him still now. A lot of tough talk from the president , right, john, on not only how to deal with the u. N. But with north korea. The president fancies himself as a disrupter. He came to the United Nations to shake things up and thats what he did. Very tough talk on north korea. This was a push to the United Nations to do something about this before it got to the point where the president was going to have to do something that he said to the United Nations that he didnt want to do. He said basically if the United States is pushed into it, we will destroy north korea. Giving the United Nations an out to say, you know, you have the opportunity here through Security Council to impose tough new sanctions on north korea and to put the screws to them and denuclearize the korean peninsula. The president also im employed during his speech, the new nickname that hes given to kim jongun. Listen here. The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defense itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy north korea. Rocketman is on a Suicide Mission for himself and for his regime. Rocketman is on a Suicide Mission for himself and his regime. Rocketman being the new monicker that the president has ascribed to kim jongun. The. Was very tough on iran calling them a murderous regime. The government masking a corrupt organization that traffics in blood shed and chaos more than anything else. The foreign minister of iran didnt like that a whole lot saying the president s talk was more probably better for the Medieval Times than for the 21st century. The president getting his message across that he is not going to let iran play fast and loose with its missiles and Nuclear Program and calling the Iran Nuclear Deal one of the worst things that has ever been negotiated. The president calling out the regime of Nicholas Maduro in venezuela. They have imposed a dictatorship there. What is going on there is not the result of facial implementation of socialism, but the faithful implementation of socialism. That drew sharp criticism from maduro. The weird thing about it likening donald trump to Ronald Reagan is a big compliment to trump. So maybe they need to go back to the drawing board there in venezuela. Neil yeah, in this country thats the case. John roberts. The tough talk, how was it received there . Arizona republican congressman brent franks. What do you think, congressman . Everybody talks about the great speeches this president has made, this will go down as the best one yet. I agree with the president of venezuela. You can easily confuse this speech with one that Ronald Reagan would give. It was inspiring, one that called to the noblist ideals in the human heart of saying we want people to be free, and america is committed to an America First policy. Theres a trump doctrine here now. That is yes, America First, but were not isolationists. For those that seek the cause of human freedom and dignity, the star and stripes are on your side. Its one of the most important things that any president can do, to articulate those noble ideas that resonate in every human heart. Thats why we have america. Its a politically correct environment at the United Nations. I wasnt surprised when i talk to nato secretary earlier today on fox business. He had a more sort of cautious reaction. I want you to respond to this. The president referred to the north korean leader, sir, as rocketman, that we would take it upon ourselves to deal militarily to wipe out north korea if we had to. What did you think of that language . President trump is a president who has used Strong Language before. He often uses strong rhetoric. Neil thats his way of saying they the way he speaks, not the way we speak. What did you gather . In terms of Foreign Policy clarity, i would suggest to you that that language leaves no doubt in the mind of kim jongun that this president will not count on missiles with the United States and our citizens. If theres a single most important factor that the north korean regime is to understand, is to attack america is to destroy north korea. So i think the president should be given a tremendous plaudit in that regard. Im going to say this. Those that have called this president that hes too strong in his words, theyre the same ones like bill clinton that made the deal with north korea that really facilitated them to get Nuclear Weapons and barack obama turns around and does another deal with them and facilitated them to put those Nuclear Weapons in a situation where they could be put on missiles to reach the United States of america. Then barack obama takes a deal with iran that puts them on a direct trajectory to gain Nuclear Weapons. Theyre the ones that are growing to tell this president how to conduct Foreign Policy . Theyre the reason were in this bind in the first place. It may be this president is the only one with the courage and clarity to get us out of it. I hope so. Neil one set of sanctions after the other, whether they have more teeth in them, the north koreans may not be dissuaded to do what they do. Thanks, congressman. I do want to update you that unfortunately we have gotten confirmation of this earthquake killing at least two people. Those numbers could come up. Some of these aerial views where the buildings have chanced like pancakes is very densely populated in an around mexico city. The mayor saying theres a number of people without outlining how many are trapped in these buildings. A 7. 1 reading on the Richter Scale for an earthquake that right now that seems to have buffeted one of the more populous regions on the planet. More after this. Neil what hes talking about, Lindsey Graham there, is yet another shot at obamacare repeal. This time they think they have the support to get this one done. A lot hinges on this. Hope springs eternal to republican whose have tried to make this happen. Mike emanuel on capitol hill with what is happening here. What is this all about . Neil, essentially lawmakers are looking to see if they can take a last swipe to pass this healthcare reform bill by the end of the fiscal year. Time is running short in this fiscal year and in the end of this calendar year. When you look at september, they have a couple of mustpass items to get done. Children health insurance. When you consider the jewish holidays, time is returning short before you get to september 29th. In october, lawmakers are expected to do a budget. They need to do that to get another huge priority, tax reform done with the 50vote threshold in the United States senate. Expect tax reform to eat a lot of time. When you mix in thanksgiving and november and christmas in december, limited time to get everything done. Lawmakers need to do another deal to fund the government beyond dells 8. I asked Mitch Mcconnell if hes having concerns about a time crunch a short time ago. I think well be fine. As you know, the next big priority is tax reform. Democrats are also not happy about butting heads with republicans again on getting rid of obamacare. After mcconnell was done, i asked the Senate Democratic leader if he is starting to feel a calendar crunch. Theyre in the majority. That was their choice. I wish they hadnt made it. I think at least for a december agreement on a variety of issues, well do very well. So republicans are trying to do healthcare reform by taking federal healthcare dollars, black granting them, giving them to the states saying the states know how to use the money better. The senate still trying to see if they have 50 votes. Time is running short and so far theyre not sounding the alarm just yet, neil. Neil this would be integral to getting the tax cut things done. Revenue from this you could use from the tax cut thing, right . Quite a possibility. Something they are hoping to do get healthcare down to get on to tax reform. Well see. Neil its about getting the votes. Thanks, mike emanuel. Lisa murkowski could hold a key to whether this healthcare bill sees the light of day and passes. She says shes undecided. The governor for her state has signed a letter opposing it. Senator dan sullivan, good to be back with you. Thank you. Where are you leaning . Im looking a tractor trailer data. Im looking at how it impact as alaska. Most senators are doing that, getting the details. The overall idea here is compelling, which is federal support, federal money to the states and let the states figure out how to best develop their own healthcare system. Neil, it stands in stark contrast to what the democrats introduced last week. That was Bernie Sanders single payer system, which would consolidate more power in washington. Neil do you think theres any chance and certainly from Chuck Schumer that there would be democrat support or all in republicans . Guys like john mccain coming on board. Were going to keep working it. Ive said im not 100 there yet. Everybody wants to do the due diligence. Theres talk of hearings next week on this bill. Thats everybodys focus. The overall idea, if youre for federalism, if youre for the tenth amendment, this has a lot of attraction. Neil it might be a good thing but could be a complicated thing for the tax cut issue getting pushed back and a lot of these things piling up by the end of the year. Undoable by the end of the year. What do you think . Look, i think the focus on growing the economy, you talk about it all the time, is the key issue. Growth, growth, growth. We have to get back to 3 or above for this country and the opportunity. Tax reform is key to that. Continued regulation reform. The issue i love to talk about, a great opportunity for america, energy. We do all of those things and infrastructure, its a busy schedule but i think its critical. By the way, i think we should create more time. Ive been one of the senators saying to our leadership, if we dont have time, lets stay weekends. Work around the clock. We have a big agenda to get done before the end of the year. Lets stay here and get some things done. We can create more time to tack that will agenda. Neil are you leery about revisiting the healthcare reveal effort, however meritorious, and it could rob you of time on the tax cut things, about which there seems to be broader agreement but i could be wrong. Its an important enough issue, the healthcare issue. This relates to the economy and americans healthcare. So i think with the idea, its a simple idea when you look at grahamcassidy, the overall idea here. If its getting momentum, its worth while to dig into it thats what im doing and a lot of senators are doing. Its an important enough issue to spend more time on it. Neil thanks, senator. Thank you, neil. Neil and more breaking news right now about the british london subway attack could have been worst. British police have arrested a third suspect in connection with that bomb. It was a painters bucket with wires sticking out of it. A third suspect in connection with the bomb on the london subway. So theyre rounding up possible culprits behind that in london. Want to let you know more about the earthquake right now. The 7. 1 earthquake hitting mexico and mexico city. Two or dead. Neil to the day in 1985 on this day, mexico city had one of its most devastating earthquakes. Thousands were killed. Reports today of a 7. 1 magnitude earthquake hitting outside mexico city but felt in mexico city with buildings collapsed and fell like pancakes perhaps hundreds and thousands trapped in them. Trace gallagher has the latest. What are you hearing, trace . The more pictures we see, the more disturbing they are. First, it was facades. Now theres reports of entire buildings collapsed and people stuck inside. Roads are cracked and towers of churches have fallen. One bridge that we know have has also collapsed. The stock market has been suspended for the day. Theres some 20 Million People that live in the greater mexico city area that contributes 15 to the countrys gdp. The whole horror of the irony, 32 years ago on this day, an 8. 2 quake killed over 5,000 people, left tens of thousands of buildings stagged. Took the city a decade to rebuild. The construction codes have improved greatly. Its important to know that mexico city was build on a dry lake bed. The earthquake waves tend to echo from the lake beds and intensifies the damage. In the outlying areas of mexico, which tend to be the poorer areas, theres millions of people there, and they still do not have those reinforced construction codes. A lot of their buildings have not been reinforced. So far we know two people have been killed in this quake. As you look at the pictures, the damage estimates will rise. This was 32 miles deep. Because it was so deep, that means the damage is spread over a very wide area. Last week southern mexico had an 8. 1 quake that killed 58 people. We will continue to give you updates as you look at the damage, it keeps getting worse and worse by the minute. Neil, back to you. Thanks, trace. Were keeping track on what is going on there and preparations for what could be an incredible category five hurricane hitting puerto rico. And political storms brewing, including this one where nancy pelosi was the target of a group that loves democrats and usually loves here and has anything to do with supporting daca. An embarrassing situation for nancy pelosi from those that say shes not doing enough to help daca and those hear illegally. Lets go to this tape play back that were getting from the president with the amir. Were talking trade and many other things. Weve had a tremendous relationship the last short period of time, especially since our meeting in saudi arabia. It was an epic and really historic meeting. Now we want to make the most of it by getting things settled. We want to continue trade and numerous things. We look forward to our meetings and meetings for years to come. Thank you. Thank you. Im very happy to be with you here. Our relationship between the United States and qatar is a very strong relationship. We signed agreements, we were the first country to respond to this agreement and we signed this mou of counter terrorism. We appreciate this relationship, mr. President. We have a lot to talk about, trade, military cooperation, security cooperation. So thank you very much. As you said, mr. President , we have a problem with our neighbors. Your interference will help. Im sure that hopefully we can find a solution for this problem. Weve always said were open for dialogue and always be open for dialogue. We will get it solved. Thanks very much. Thank you. Neil all right. I wait to see if he says something. The president with the emir of qatar. I do want back togy to gianna caldwell. I wanted your thoughts about how the president is doing today. I say one thing president ial that i appreciate about this president , the fact that he continues with the narrative America First. Doesnt matter what your country needs. Well take care of our folks and your folks and if theres sense and its mutually beneficial to help, well do so. Im pleased with what i saw at the u. N. Im glad to see him in that way versus the other ways weve seen in the past. You know, gianno, i was surprised with the reaction of the protesters of all people with nancy pelosi. I can only a tribute it to the fact that she reached out to the president or the president reached out to her and Chuck Schumer. These people, a lot of them are angry at her. I dont think she saw or appreciated the buzz saw coming. Whatever you think of nancy pelosi, thats a group that should be liking her. Is it just because of the overtures to donald trump or whats going on . Thats a really interesting question. Really quick, to some degree, maybe they want more than what is currently being discussed. Theres another interesting point. I was at dinner last night with some of the leaders and we talked about the daca deal between Chuck Schumer and nancy pelosi and the fact that were willing to meet with president to get something for the dreamers. However, the black congressional caucus wouldnt sit down with the president. Democrats on the other end are willing to get something out of the deal. That is very interesting. Im glad you brought that up. Neil im just wondering, did donald trump risk any capitol making the overtures to nancy pelosi and Chuck Schumer . I didnt expect that against nancy pelosi and her base. Hold on a second. Ann coulter is on the phone, neil. You want to talk to her . If i look at her tweets in the morning, afternoon and evening and i laugh at the things that she says about president trump. A complete turn around from what he said in the past praising him. Some folks in his base that are upset. They dont believe the wall is going to happen. They feel neil i would man, gianna, theyre looking at nancy pelosi and thinking if trump was on to something and whatever they might find offensive, theyre saying gee, we didnt see this coming, that it would be these farfringed groups that are lock step with the democrats, certainly nancy pelosi and they turn on her. It does make you wonder that we focused so much on divisions within the republican ranks between the moderates and the super conservatives and all that they have a family squabble of their own on the left. I mean 100 they do. Hillary clinton has gone on a blame game tour. 61 of americans think she should retire. Retire from what . What job does she have . Complainer chief at this point. The democrats regret rigging the primary process for her. In no way shape or form has she been a positive figure for her party. Theres a lot of things going on there. Could be catastrophic moving forward for them in the 2020 races. Well have to see how bad it gets in terms of on our side. Theres more cooperation going on in terms of policy. So we see the folks on our side, republicans in congress are getting together and taking some more policyfocused positions in terms of daca. We need to do something but were a nation of laws. It has to be measured. Neil thank you, my friend. Thank you, big brother neil. Neil just as we feared, the governors of morelos mexico confirming 42 are dead in that central mexican state following this earthquake. Again, weve clearly seen a enough of buildings like this one toppling. A lot of people trapped in the rubble and for mexico city on this the anniversary of one of its worst earthquakes in 1985. Hopefully the numbers does get like that horrific fall event. Right now it is not looking good. At least 42 now dead in another major earthquake to hit in an around mexico city. 42 are dead. [woman 1] huh. Cant find my debit card. [woman 2] oh no. [woman 1] oh, its fine. [woman 2] yeah, totally. Its fine. But like. Is it fine though . Because, i would maybe be worried. Liberty stands with youâ„¢ Liberty Mutual insurance. You know, its a unique scenario. Ill say that. Were getting lost in the semantics. People was talking about was trump wiretapped. The bottom line is trump taped. He charged barack obama with that. What a paranoid fabrication. Before it came his campaign manager, obviously he would have talked to candidate trump a number of times. So indirectly, yeah. The president was in those days tapped. Where is this going . Obviously the investigation was hinging on any interference of russia and the president ial elections. They initiated the wiretapping, the fbi investigation likely before the election under Loretta Lynch under the obama administration. Neil but this goes back, they fingered him, manafort to ukraine dealings. Lets say her fingered for some sort of financial impropriety and hes indicted, a big leap, i grant you, is its about putting pressure on donald trump or i seriously think this portion of the investigation hes been investigated twice. They pointed the 2014 wiretaps. They stopped that. They started the investigation having to do with the russian probe on manafort. Theres no denying he was the Campaign Chairman of the trump campaign. We see all of these tentacles. Does it have legs . Is it more interesting . Yeah. Its trump. It appears that neil youre a lawyer, right . Im not. I a watch a lot of legal shows so yes. Neil normally when you hint of indicting someone, which is a stretch just getting even indicted doesnt mean that youll be exonerated. Theres former indictments a disappeared. Is there an idea that once you said Something Like that that you will get of jail or are they trying to flip him . Yes, of course. Its a tactic. Prosecutors will try to do that. Peer putting pressure on him. When they broke into his house, they told him. They told him yesterday, youre going to be indicted. Thats a threat. Are they trying to get information, trying to get him to help with their future investigation . Neil it had nothing to do with the case at hand here, if thats right. By the way, heres whats happening with you on this potentially financial matter. Maybe you can help us with this one on a more political one. It seems like grasping here. Its grasping but its also a strategy. They are prosecutors. They do have a goal. This would be a huge undertaking to find out if russia was part of a u. S. Election. Theres an interest there. The way theyre going about it would be like elliot ness and al capone to the rest of the world. Its a white collar crime. Were looking at a man that hasnt done so visceral that would aggravate this investigation to a degree. Hes under a lot of scrutiny and the scope of the investigation doesnt have boundaries that is an issue for everybody. Neil i get this sense that this frenetic activity and they have to deliver something or they have to deliver something fairly soon or do they . They do. Honestly, when you get to this place in an investigation of this caliber, its likely they will deliver an indictment against manafort. Whether that goes beyond a tax violation or whether that goes into money laundering, anything beyond the scope of his personal liability has yet to be seen. Honestly if it was going there, we would probably see more activity. We are in the thick of it. These things take years. Investigations like this generally take years. Neil all right, lisa, very confusing. Good thing youre a lawyer. All right. I do want to let you know were following this earthquake development. 42 are known dead. More details out of mexico city. This is on the anniversary of one of the biggest earthquake in history. Thousands died then. Were on top of everything going on now. Neil you know hurricane is coming. An earthquake, oftentimes you dont.
