Is it a time to cut dramatically . The markets seem to think we could be sputtering. This market has done okay this month. This is the last trading day of the month of april. Lets just take a peek where we ended. The president saw the economy and the overall markets gain about a percentage point from the beginning of this month to the end of the month. I also want you to look at how his 100day performance goes into tomorrow against his predecessors. This president the 1. 3 advance this month and a similar ga in gain in the southbound and the nasdaq. This is looking at the first 100 days. Hes right up there with other president s through the first 100 days coming from already heedy levels. This does not take into account if you want to look at everything here. The roughly 14 gain he has experienced and the markets have experienced since he was first elected. Similar numbers are hard to mirror with comparisons here. It does get back to why those markets were up in the first place. Theyre optimistic that this president will boost the economy with big tax cuts and that that will continue to keep the market rally goinget the economy picking up some steam. Denny joins us on that and daniel mclaughlin. Behind that notion that a weak report like this is its going to help Donald Trumps argument for tax cuts. What do you think . Absolutely will help. It was a horrible first quarter. Ill admit that. But our economy needs a shot in the arm. What better way to do so than with tax cuts for the businesses, big and small and for individuals and 4 families. Tax cuts put more money in the hands of the people than in the hands of government. This is a great way to look at how trump can help spur the economy and get more job growth. Neil the first numbers are dice y. We saw the recession with obama obama. Took another couple years to unwant itself here. So these things do take time. Allowing for that though. If the federal reserve, for example, is out of the stimulus business and cant cut rates, cant it incumbent on politicians in this case to do everything they can . In this case, tax cuts. Neil, absolutely is. The measure of these tax cuts are whether they fulfill the pop lust populous. We saw that Consumer Spending is down and people are unsure where they want to spend their money. Theres two golden rules about the correlation between tax cuts and spending. They have to be permanent and they have to show up in your paycheck. One really important thing about this, 100 to someone earning 40,000 or 50,000, which is the median incomes in this country means more to someone than earned 4 million or 5 million. Trump is right to attack this but has to help the middle class because a strong middle class will help. So you think that the president s proposals right n now its not about resentment at all. The Congressional Service looked at the highest marginal rates and showed that in a 60year period, there was no correlation between Economic Growth and cutting the rates. So its railroad important. Neil so we can parse who defected with Ronald Reagan. Its a personal opinion. But one of the things that has be raised and to danielles point, this idea that if you really want to most bang for your buck, you have to get tax relief right now. Whether its middle class or everybody or some more than others, im sure they will sort this out. Im not convinced that republicans even in agreement on this, especially when it looked like they were ready to cobble together a healthcare deal and looked like that went bad. So if they cant get their act together on that one, how can they get their act together on a tax cut, some of whom in the house and Senate Republicans are saying it has to be revenue neutral from the get go. They do need to get their act together, kneel. Tax cuts are good for everyone, in the middle class, rich or lower class. When you look at the tax cuts for businesses, big and small we have one of the highest tax rates in the country. You put more money in the hands of corporations and businesses, theyre able to reinvest in their business to innovate, to expand and grow and hire more people to pay their employees more money. So makes us more competitive naturally as well. I want to thank you both very much with jack welsh, one of the most celebrated ceos in american history, what he wants to see. What he fears that we might not be seeing, especially if they get bogged down in details. To north korea right now. A front and pressing concern. Doesnt the president know it. Take a listen. Theres a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with north korea. Absolutely. Neil a major, major conflict with north korea. Bestselling author, mark stein. What do you make of that . Yeah, i dont think hes wrong. When you talk about money and markets and taxes, you assume that wealth and power go together. You know . Mcdonalds is wealthy and powerful. Whereas my chain of dead skunk burger restaurants isnt wealthy. So that yolk has fallen apart geo politically. We have the wealthiest societies in human history, countries like norway and new zealand that cant project power to their own borders, and we have basket case states like north korea, which has and all but un detedetectab gdp, but its a nuclear power. That world wont endure an equilibrium for very long. Sooner or later, if north korea is nuclear, if sudan goes nuclear, if yemen goes nuclear and all the rich countries spend nothing defending themselves, the world will collapse. Thats whats at the heart of the north korean question. Neil i was talking to an analyst on this subject, fox business, which if you tonight get mark, you should demand. No, i love it, neil. Wouldnt miss it. Neil one of the things that came up, the president had dealt with these north korean dictators, whether its this guy now, his dad or the grandfather before that. They all tried to broke area deal or agreement where they looked the other way or hoped sanctions will tighten the nuese around the leaders neck and never ever changes. President trump says youre getting dangerous, launching missiles and eventually youre going to get lucky. Now we heard a tone certainly out of the secretary of state today that that is going to change. But we then have to change, right . We have to do something that is going to up the global ante and push us closer, right . Yes. Because i think if he has a Nuclear Weapon or weapons, sooner or later he will use them. We all laugh because hes not very good. He has one of his tests and the thing barely clears the perimeter fence and we laugh at home. No, thats why hes dangerous. When you have a nuclear power, you want the guy to be good at Nuclear Weapons broadly speaking. France, russia and china and the u. K. And the United States are. When you has isnt that isnt good at it, its like watching an ebb inebriated granny driving down the turnpike. Neil and youre taking into account that the granny will be accountable to those chasing here. What if china cant control this guy and were playing the china card hoping praying theically . Thats the only form of leverage. Kim jongun is rationale to the extend that he wants to stay alive. Hes not rationale to the extend that if it were to suit him one particular evening, he would be perfectly happy to reduce seoul or a japanese city or any other city to a smoking ruin if it happened to suit what was in his head at that time. That world cannot continue. The chinese have to be pressured to pressure north korea. When you have 30 Nuclear Weapons, thats not like having hundreds and thousands. The fewer you have, the more likely you are to use them. Its use them or lose them. Thats how it works at that level. Neil amazing. Mark steyn, extraordinaire from his compound in new hampshire. Always a pleasure. Thanks, neil. Neil President Trump says hes getting a lot done. As he enters his 100th day, jack welsh is here to say youre right, mr. President. David. Whats going on . Oh hey thats it . Yeah. Everybody two seconds dear sebastian, after careful consideration of your application, it is with great pleasure that we offer our congratulations on your acceptance. Through the Tuition Assistance program, every day mcdonalds helps more people go to college. Its part of our commitment to being americas best first job. You realize the smartest investing idea, isnt just what you invest in, but who you invest with. Im dr. Kelsey mcneely and some day you might be calling me an energy farmer. Energy lives here. Are you disappointed with how the republicans have handled these big issues . Healthcare went down and there was a suggestion it might happen today. Now its not going to happen. Im disappointed it doesnt go quicker. I like them a lot. Most of them i didnt even know. Many of them like the Freedom Caucus came and i see they say we love our president. Were doing this for our president. The same thing with the moderates. Paul ryan is trying very, very hard. Everybody is trying very hard. Its a very tough system. Neil all right. The president expressing his frustration with our martha maccallum. You can catch that at 7 00 p. M. , the final 100 days show. It get back to something that jack welsh mentioned to me not long ago. Its different being a ceo and running a fortune 500 company and then trying to work the wiley ways of washington. Even the guys in your own party cant agree on these issues. Jack, of course, the former ceo of general electric. Hes the executive chairman of jack welsh management institute. Hes one of the best ceos of all time. I concur with that. This is a frustration that you echoed and you did, too, the movement from private enterprise to public works is very different. He was kind of frustrated with his own party there. Where is it going now . Well, hes got to become the cajoler in chief. Theres no question he doesnt have the leadership he wants to drive some of these things home. They hung together on his most important achievement so far. They hung together to get gorsuch approved in the senate. That was a singular achievement of leadership by Mitch Mcconnell on that team. Paul ryan has not been able to herd the cats in the way that he should be as leader of the house. Its frustrating. Its frustrating to hear nancy pelosi every day shine the same thing. They have the white house, they have the senate. They have the house and they cant get anything done. Thats nonsense. Shes allowed to do it as long as these things hang out there. Neil im wondering, the markets have been doing very well, the economy, the first quarter. Not withstanding that typical development. A lot of people are hanging a lot on these tax cuts and the republicans will get the job done. Even among the republicans, jack, theres some difference back and forth as to whether they should be paid for right away or whether dynamic accounting will help and create revenues of their own. If you were the president , advising the president , what would you be saying . Theyre loggerheads on that issue. Id focus on it every day. Put the heat on them. Get paul ryan and mcconnell all over it. Look, the republicans have a wild crowd. They dont play by the same rules as the democrats. The democrats line up like, you know, melons and vote the same way. You have to give a guy like schumer and somebody like pelosi credit. They herd these cats it beer than anybody else. The republicans neil the republicans used to be good at that. They herded in the opposition more effectively. Maybe being in the opposition is easier to do. They help to get the tax cuts that will grease the skids for that. But already that deal that locked possible, what you gain you lose with moderates. So im wondering if that is delayed or lets say the tax cuts are pushed off to much later, would you be worried then . Yes, i want them put in place. We need to grow this economy. If we dont get growth, were stunted. Were done. We have to get it. We cant have this debt keep piling up without taking a shot and getting real growth on one side and Cost Containment on the other. Neil, my problem is with republicans in general. You look at sessions. He recuses himself in a minute. The attorney general. Eric holder was a walking sinner. He never pulled back from anything. He had more conflicts than anybody. They hang in there. Munoz recuses himself from the investigation and they let adam schiff mouth off every hour on the hour. Its crazy the way they cave. Neil youre talking about the Intelligence Committee and always on defense. The. Has been saying, you know, hes coming closer to his core beliefs when it comes to tax cuts. We need them. We need them to be big and comprehensive. Ronald reagan shepherded that process aggressively but tried to Court Democrats as well. He worked effectively with tip oneal, won over the southern democrats. He was intimately involved in the process. Youre known as a detailed guy. Do you think this. Should follow the same strategy . Much will be decided on this president s reputation and success whether he gets these through. Well, he made it clear that the white house is driving this boat. Thats good. Going to drive it. He has to roll up his sleeve, get in there, make the compromises here and there. But hes got the get his party to Stay Together and come with him. They have to realize that his vote depends on him getting there. He ran on jobs, jobs, jobs. If were going to get this economy going, we need the tax cuts. Hes done a hell of a jobs. Hes got the regulations out of the way. He cleaned up a lot of stuff. Hes looking at that stupid paris accord. If you walk away from that, youre neil the Climate Change accord. No, you dont hate the environment. You hate the deal. India and china dont play for 13 more years. You hate the deal. You dont hate the environment. You dont want to handcuff yourself while they continue with a free reign to do what they want. So the deals hes challenged, deals that are too one way, negotiated by people that wanted the deal more than they wanted what is good for america. Hes fixing that. The way the media polarizes his position is outrageous. Youre antisomething if you challenge the status quo. Its crazy. Hes not an anti environmentalist. Hes a thoughtful guy that is trying to do it right. Neil if you want to trash whatever, its ample time for news organizations the cover the whole thing. Youve obviously been watching too many cnbc. Good to see you, jack welch. Thanks very much. Very nice talking to you. Stay on this tax thing, neil. Make it happen. Neil the orders from jack welch. All right. In the meantime, democrats are making a point and making sure the tax cuts never come to fruition. Theyre worried about the debt right now, which is rich, if you think about it. After this. Yeah, i just saved a whole lot of money by switching to geico. Huh. We should take a closer look at geico. You know, geico insures way more than cars. Boats, motorcycles. Even rvs geico insures rvs . Whats an rv . Uh, the thing weve been stuck on for five years wait, im not a real moose . . Weve been over this, jeff. Were stickers im not a real moose . Give him some space. Deep breaths, jeff. Whats a sticker . . Take a closer look at geico. Great savings. And a whole lot more. Rays always been different. Last year, he said he was going to dig a hole to china. At t is working with farmers to improve irrigation techniques. Remote moisture sensors use a Reliable Network to tell them when and where to water. So that farmers like ray can compete in big ways. China. Oh. He got there. Thats the power of and. Hey. Pass please. Im here to fix the elevator. Nothings wrong with the elevator. Right. But you want to fix it. Right. So who sent you . New guy. What new guy . Watson. My analysis of sensor and Maintenance Data indicates elevator 3 will malfunction in 2 days. There you go. You still need a pass. Neil all right. With all these protests, especially the ones at berkeley and the extreme left getting extremely agitated, are democrats hurting themselves . Especially now with talk that they want to explore a lawsuit, possible impeachment over trump and his business interests. Don peoples, close confidant and friend for barack obama and fund raiser joining me now. Youve always been concerned about the direction of your party. Now growing concerns that the party doesnt care. Because theyre so convinced that donald trump is in trouble that theyre going to continue doing what theyre doing. What do you think . Look, i dont know if theyre convinced that donald trump is in trouble or frustrated with the outcome of the electioelect. The reality is, the key constituents left them and they voted for donald trump or stayed home. Thats the problem. Part of it is because they didnt like the agenda, they didnt like the direction and also the party that kind of ignored them and neil but youre a moderate, right . Yep. Neil and that was like the bill clintontype of approach to leadership. Hillary clinton veered from that. But that is the key to governing. You were looking at maybe running for mayor in this city because you were a critic of the democratic mayor, bill de blasio veered to the left. But he could likely get reelected. How do you feel about that . Its frustrating. He veered to the left because he pandering to a lot of people looking for ideas and solutions. You have a large number of new yorkers living in poverty and the middle class essentially being forced out because of the failed policiepolicies. Thats passification. Not doing anything and the challenge is that the agenda is not moving forward. Neil who speaks for democrats . Who is the spokesperson . I was at lunch the other day and ran into the top democrat. The party establishment. I called my wife. I said, you know, i dont know how i can even call myself a democrat anymore. The things that these people are seeing now are so out of touch with where i am. Out of touch with what the country needs. What new york needs. I think this party has been hijacked by the people to the far left neil is that Elizabeth Warren, the Bernie Sanders types . President obama has disengaged. Its the right thing to do. The president shouldnt a former president shouldnt be engaged anymore in our political system per se. Theres another president. What has happened is, its leaderless. Theres no one in the center that has an agenda that is willing to step up. The idea of impeaching a president that has president been in office for 100 days because they dont like some of the reporting on his business interests is absurd. Neil its not common plac
