do. >> i always stand for the anthem but i thank god every day i live in a country where i don't have to. this is america, you are free to protest. taking a knee during the national anthem has been discussed as a reasonable appropriate and very respectful -- absolutely. you speak to people over theye years within veterans communities and others, this is a very respectful way. >> mark: those people pumping fists, walking around, you canhe take a need for king george the third, you got rid of him so you don't take the day, you stand up for the national -- the point about the national anthem as everybody has got to do the same thing for it, or it's not a national anthem anymore. >> the point of living in a democratic republic is everybody can do what they want to do particularly around a song being played at an event. it is freedom, you don't fight for the flag or the anthem, you fight for the freedoms that the flag and the anthem represent. >> mark: it's not a first amendment issue, i have a
first amendment right to shout . words at your grandmother's funeral. any civilized society depends on people having -- respecting a minimum of social norms. if you're at an international game and they play the canadian anthem or the french anthem or the german anthem, or these jacksonville jaguars players who stood up for god save the queen, they understood with a foreigngn anthem it's polite to get to your feet but not with their own anthem. >> let me just explain this to you but you may not have learned this in school. in a free society like ours, you do not have to stand compulsory for anything. you can do what you want to do as long as you're not hurting others. there is no law that says -- we don't live in the age of 1984
where you do with the party tells you. you can peacefully protest4 whenever you want wherever you want. >> mark: let me explain something to you since were all explaining to each other, of course not. everyone accepts there is a legal right to do things, there's a legal right to be a boorish narcissistic ultimate million dollar buffoon who doesn't understand a basic societal norm. >> we have one running the country right now. >> mark: defending this kind of narcissistic self-indulgent buffoonery as some abstract freedom is completely ridiculous. no one is going to put them in jail, bob mueller isn't going to indict them and toss them in jail for 200 years but it's still not something you guys should be defending. >> i am defending people's rights to express themselves peacefully without bothering other people. i respect that right.ts
the president has bigger things to worry about then whether a couple of athletes are kneeling on sunday. i know it's a double whammy for him on this anniversary of his ridiculous remarks after charlottesville, it's a double whammy because the nfl rejected him many years ago, they wouldn't let him by a team so he gets back and he gets to charge up his base. we need the president to focus on bringing people together, not pulling them apart over this. >> mark: there's no point bringing people together who can't even agree on the national anthem. you might as well say wake me up before you go go for white people and the macarena for a black people. carry on, you can have the last word. >> we respect the anthem but we also respect people's rights to do what they want. >> mark: will see how that works out, we will see if
there's enough society left. democrats across the country are turning against nancy pelosi, is it time for her to step down? if so, who can replace her? that's next on "tucker carlson tonight." men's waterproof rubber boots for under $90. and save $100 on this leupold lto-tracker thermal imager. when you barely clip a tpassing car. minor accident - no big deal, right? wrong. your insurance company is gonna raise your rate after the other car got a scratch so small you coulda fixed it with a pen.

speak or if the party retakes the majority. >> we will have a vote as to who will be the next democratic leader whether it be minority or speaker of the house, will you vote for nancy pelosi? >> probably not. >> you have said you will not support nancy pelosi should to become elected as the next speaker. >> folks are ready for a new generation of leadership. >> would you back her if you win and are in the house? >> we don't want to get ahead of ourselves. >> mark: mark penn was a poster and advisor to both bill and hillary clinton and he joins us. 15 years in the modern age is a hell of a long time to be holding down a party leadership job, is she finally in trouble? >> i think trouble is overrated
here. if the democrats win the house she will have done the fund-raising, the messaging, she will be in a strong position and she will be strengtheningsh herself in california. the california delegation is solidly behind her. i don't think she's going anywhere if she wins. on the other hand, there are a fair number of politicians for the purpose of the election because she's unpopular who want to distance themselves from her. eventually there will be a change. the other thing that could happen here is the problem solvers caucus, if this racism within five or six seats, democrats or republicans they may hold up the election for speaker unless there are rules changes and put some power back in the member's hands. >> mark: let's step back and talk about what you said in the beginning about whether she isp in trouble or not. once upon a time if you were a
loser, you got a second chance whether it's grover cleveland, richard nixona or whoever it is you're talking about. we live in much more brutal political times and nancy pelosi hasn't actually won in the house for 10 years. four elections and possibly a fifth. what's the secret of her power?? how was she managed to hold her grip on this caucus? >> california fund-raising, personality and organization. remember what has happened here is the fund-raising and theg political campaigns largely got centralized giving more power to the leaders. that's one of the big reasons nothing gets done on both sides. the leaders have too much power and the members aren't free to agree on stuff. >> mark: let's turn it from a minority leader to a well-known new york city madam, the self-described manhattan madam kristin davis testified before
the mueller investigations grand jury. why she did that is unclear but she has been the friend to a long time trump advisor roger stone. if you have a difficulty keeping your metropolitan madam straight, this is the one who claimed to have provided hookers for eliot spitzer. who was then the democratic governor of new york. how did the mueller end up calling the manhattan madam before the grand jury? >> i lived through 98 so i know there are no rocks that special councils will stop from turning over? i think it's unfortunate for special counsel has gone down this road. roger stone has been clear, hehe didn't collude with anybody, he was up to his usual political
tricks and bragging and they are obviously interviewing everybody around him regardless of connection, just as they are interviewing everyone around trump. quite interestingly one of roger stone's other associates appealed to subpoena and i think although it was turned down at the district level, it was the most fascinating case which might be the case that unravels the entire independent counsel the investigation if it's appealed. >> mark: that is an interesting appeal. this doesn't meet any basic judicial norms what the special counsel does. he goes down the chain, he wants to talk to this madam because she's got something on some other guy and he can put the squeeze on that other guy and the other guy can roll up another guy and eventuallyhe somewhere in that chain, they will find that someone who has the goods on trump. why do democrats and republicans put up with this? why isn't there a bipartisan
understanding of the need to get rid of this thing? >> i wish there were. i fought ken starr in 98 and i've been outspoken i think this investigation is wrong. i think judge ellis clearly knows that manafort is on trial by the independent counsel with the entire weight of the largesr prosecutorial machinery almost ever built only because he spent two months as trump campaign manager, he might've had a trial but not two indictments, even without bail, even harvey weinstein is out on a million dollars bail. this is not the way anybody really expects the american justice system to work. i am puzzled -- hatred of trump is so broad, people are forgetting the first principles is that we all have to agree on a system that's fair to all. >> mark: will get into judge o ellis and the manafort trial later on the show. mark zuckerberg has more of your

about anyone. where's it it going to stop? >> it's infuriating. as many active users as there are total members of christianity, were talking aboue the largest entity in business that has ever existed. they capture everything, what's particularly galling about the issue is it's not like they are going offer a new service. as a consumer, you have access to web services, facebook wants to get that data because with that data they're going to know a lot more about you and they'rc going to be able to manipulate your attention to the economic benefit. they're going to be able to use that data with third parties. my advice to everyone is if by some reason -- do not do this,
this is a really bad idea. i wish facebook would recognize the game has changed and they need to behave differently. >> mark: as a practicalr matter, they're going after major banks. if you want to transfer your checking account to the first national bank of the dead moose junction somewhere in the main woods they might not have done a deal with facebook.ha it's increasingly hard to avoid his tentacles. >> it's difficult, the good news is you would still have to take a little piece of software and facebook messenger that works
with your specific bank so you always have the ability to opt out in this case. the problem as you pointed out is that in so many areas you don't have any way to opt out, all of this stuff has been done to you. the sad thing is most of usus don't even realize this has been going on. there's so much data that has been gathered in the way it's being used, you don't realize that's where the data is coming from and you don't realize this is being done to harm you. my simple point to everybody is the days of trusting tech companies to do the right thing are in the past now. i'm not saying don't use new tech, make sure you understand what the consequences are.s there are a lot of reasons why that is just a terrible idea, it's convenient to bring the songs you want to listen to. but it's not worth having it spy on you all the t time. >> mark: thank you for that. in order to have the convenienc. of knowing you like a justin bieber but not miley cyrus, you are willing to be surveilled 24 hours a day. it's a 24-hour ankle bracelet

great things can come. >> mark: facebook blocked that ad on the grounds that it contained shocking, disrespectful and sensational content, they have since relented in the face of public backlash. elizabeth ng joins us now. facebook is telling you that you telling your families a story as some kind of hate crime in their world. elizabeth joins us now. >> i found it incredibly frustrating when i got into the race to run for congress, a big part of my message is that great things can come from great adversity. my parents survived the khmer rouge and came to the
united states as refugees and for some reason, facebook didn't like that message and revoked my ability to promote this ad on their platform. >> mark: the khmer rouge in their mercifully brief time in cambodia managed to kill well over a million people. they were butchers, pol pot andw his allies were butchers on a incredible scale. at facebook who's got no memory of anything before 2012 thinks that your ad was promoting genocide? are they that stupid? >> we constantly see how this is an attack from liberal tech companies that continue to go after conservative voices. what i showed were just glimpses of genocide. my family lived through it.
for a tech company to be able to say what history lives on, i find highly problematic. >> mark: that's an absolutely critical point. the point you are making there, it's not just that facebook dominates our present and our future. they are unilaterally deciding for themselves what part of the past we are allowed to know about. for example, what happened in cambodia, some social justice pajama boy at facebook decides that can be erased into an a half million facebook users aren't entitled to see it. >> i tried to go through the normal protocols when it was w first revoked and to no avail. it took five days and a whole national movement in order for them to say i apologize for the confusion. had i been a liberal in
