Martha good evening everybody i am Martha Maccallum and this is the story, a selfdeclared fixer implicated the president in hush money payments and said he was aware of communications with wikileaks. But cohen did not have evidence the president ever colluded with russia during and the entire investigation. Questions have been raised about whether i know direct evidence that mr. Trump or his campaign colluded with russia. I do not. And i want to be clear. Martha republicans slammed cohens credibility. Mr. Cohen committed four crimes over a period of several years. He was motivated to do so by personal greed and repeatedly, repeatedly used his power and influence, but the democrats dont care. They dont care. They just want to use you mr. Cohen, you are there a package today. They have got to find somebody, somewhere to Say Something so that they can try to remove the president from office. Martha trey gowdy, former chairman of the committee will appear today that first democratic congressman Sean Patrick Maloney on the inhouse Intel Committee questioning cohen behind closed doors. Good to have your back on the program tonight so what jumped out at you and what do you to ask him tomorrow the large focus on the russian side of this but what jumped out to me today Michael Cullen showed up with hard documentary evidence of the president s involvement in a conspiracy to violate Campaign Finance laws and there was an effort to conceal that, to obstruct and cover it up. Unfortunately for those who want to discount mr. Cohen he brought documents to back that up. That is a very serious charge and that is new. Martha that is part of the Ongoing Investigation and of course, there will be a lot of questions. He also said he didnt have come with the president never directed him to make that payment. He said he understood that that is what the president wanted based on what he said, but that is clearly part of the Ongoing Investigation. What did you think of the fact that he said he did not see collusion between russia and the Trump Administration, which obviously, was the motive behind forming a special counsel in the first place. Sean that is an important piece of testimony for mr. Cohen and we will go into that in greater detail. Behind closed doors tomorrow in the Intel Committee. I want to understand that better, but i think all of this is just testimony from one witness. This witness has credibility problems. We should take it with a grain of salt. That is why the documents that show the president s involvement in a conspiracy to violate federal Campaign Finance laws is very serious. Martha goahead. Sean similarly if mr. Cohen testimony is that hes unaware of collusion with russia doesnt have documents we should take that seriously too but its only one piece of the puzzle. Martha are you willing to say based on what you have seen and heard that there wasnt any collusion with russia . Youve heard the head of the senate Intel Committee chairman burke say he hasnt seen that. Is that where we are right now . Do you agree with that . Sean i would resist the temptation every new cycle to pronounce complete understanding of what is happening. That gets read by the end to all kinds of trouble. We had one days testimony today and eyepopping revelations and evidence of criminal conduct by the president of the United States. Im going to let Robert Mueller complete his work and we will do our work on the house intelligence committee, and i will keep my powder dry on any conclusions about those issues until we have done that. Martha hundreds of 302 and testimony and eventually i guess we will get to draw some conclusion. Sean excuse me, excuse me, its been going on for two years. That is the same amount of time for big dog investigation has been going on. But the fact of the matter we will get a report and lets wait to see what it says. Martha we will all be into that report absolutely. In terms of the criticism from jim jordan he basically said is this all youve got . You have a witness here who the investigation has been through for a long time and the Southern District of new york does not apparently have him cooperating. That is one of the questions they want an answer to. What is the value at this point of Michael Collins testimony to you . Sean welcome if all youve got is documents, her documents and evidence of the president s involvement in a criminal conspiracy to violate Campaign Finance laws, that is not a conclusion. If that is what they mean about all theyve got, the president and a conspiracy come i dont know what hes talking about. I dont know why any serious person would not be interested if that is true or not. Like i said, not jumping to conclusions. On russia we need to do our work and get to the bottom of it. I think that is very serious. Martha i have one final question nancy pelosi said she did not watch today. You are looking at the poles of american, cnn, fox with a number around 50 people who dont want to see the president impeached. Is that groundwork that is being laid to continue an investigation, an investigation that might possibly form a grounds for impeachment . Sean well my nancy pelosi didnt watch today because past universal background checks supported by 90 of the American People to do Something Real long gun safety. That is the important work we are doing. And so you cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. Pulling on things you are talking about is not relevant until we have the final report from Robert Mueller and until weve done the work on the investigation that was not done clearly last year. Every day that we get more information, the initial report the republicans put out is an embarrassment. We need to get the facts and we need to be fair and reach conclusions. Trey yes, maam. Martha your reaction to what congressman maloney had to say today . Trey sean said the focus is on russia and immediately he went to the stripper and the center pole. Our focus is on russia and the next words out of his mouth were Stormy Daniels and mcdougall. And also he wants to wait on a report and yet 60 of his colleagues have already voted to move forward with impeachment. They aint leaning on nothing. Collusion. That is what started this entire investigation. That is to seminal question and the one thing Michael Cohen has been consistent on. In october 2017, he said no evidence of conspiracy between Trump Campaign in russia. And he said it again today. But the democrats dont want to hear that. So now they want to move to a violation. Martha a couple of the big items that came out today with this moment with regard to a conversation that roger stone had with President Trump on speakerphone in his office. Lets watch. Mr. President ial candidate who knew that roger stone was talking with Julian Sanchez about wikileaks drop on Democratic National committee email emails. Martha what did you think of that moment . Trey well, there are always three aspects to the outcome of the hacking of the server come with the hacking of John Podestas email and the dissemination of that information. Which is why i asked Michael Cohen two years ago do you have any evidence the president or the campaign was connected with dissemination . Lets assume, and i would be careful doing this, but lets assume Michael Koman is telling the truth. What crime was committed . What crime listening to roger stone say come i think wikileaks is about to do what they treated they are going to do with a bunch of documents. Martha good point how about this moment when he talked about adam schiff and the chairman. Watch this. We spoke with chairman cummings and the party. Trey i think jimmy had it about right, wow and not wow adam and cummings talk to a witness. The real wow for me i expect them to try to do that but the real wow for me the Washington Post and new york times, politico, the hill, their reaction, republicans were accused of talking to witnesses. It was front page information from elijah and adam went nuts if there was an insinuation republican chairman had talked to a witness. I want you to count the articles you see tomorrow about cummings prepping thes cohen before congs and you wont find one. Martha that is remarkable. One of the other takeaways a lot of questions raised about Southern District of new york investigation. And the cfo of the Trump Organization works closely in the circle that Michael Cohen and he mentioned several times, he cooperating witness and that investigation. What did you make of the fact that Elijah Cummings when he walked out said, you know, he felt there was evidence that the president is under an criminal investigation in new york . Trey for an fec violation . Martha and financial proprieties a suggestion cohen said he couldnt talk about it but mention fraud and the like. Trey will come at the Southern District think so little of Michael Cohen that they will let him go to the prison without a witness and popular think so little of Michael Cohen they will let himo to federal prison without using him as a witness and in fact mueller did something he never does, he actually spoke. He actually corrected Michael Cohen and his lawyers. So the fact that congress would allow someone, that no real Serious Investigation considers a witness to be their star witness shows how far congress has fallen. It breaks my heart to say that. I care about the institution. But to call a convicted perjurer as your first witness was stunning to watch. Martha i want to ask you one thing before i let you go. This is a tweet from congressman matt gaetz yesterday. In which he since has taken down, hey, Michael Cohen, do your wife and father in law know about your girlfriends . Maybe tonight would be a good time for a chat. I wonder if she will remain faithful when you are in prison. She is about to learn a lot. He took that down, as i said. Was that an error on his part . Trey it was more than an air, it is indefensible. It is not persuasion. The president has a lot of provocative allies like map. He could stand to have a few more persuasive allies, people like john ratcliffe, stephani, people who make the case but threatening a witness and im going to leave the criminality to others but threatening it witness like that in a tweet, you are not helping the person you are trying to help. You actually look guilty as hell when you do things like that. So im glad he took it down but he never should have put it up. Did the president watch the testimony of Michael Cohen . Kellyanne he is aware of the testimony as you note 12 hour time difference between the president embarking on major Historic Second summit todays. He will be well rested for that and fully engaged. Martha you dont know if you watched or not . Kellyanne i think hes all parts of it, absolutely. I dont know anybody who watched it for nine straight hours. I certainly didnt come i was busy here but i saw plenty of it. And i think also, martha, the one thing that i would really say to everyone is come at goes beyond, you know, reminding everybody Michael Cohen, but also the things hes saying, dont comport with somebody bragging about entering to enrich himself while based on his connections with the president and his belief in this president s policies and actions. So there is a lot of come i think revision of history here for mr. Cohen. Martha i have a couple of other questions i do want to ask him Elijah Cummings when he came out said it appears the president did commit a crime and office based on the checks that everyone was shown while he who is president to cover that expense and repay Michael Cohen. Kellyanne the operative word is it appears. If this were an actual Court Proceeding or a trail, there would be crossexamination. I have not practiced low many years but i would have said to mr. Cohen, did you ever receive a check like this . Martha he said all 11 checks. Kellyanne no, martha my point is not for that alleged transaction but over the course of his time and working for the Trump Organization in other words, was it a pattern or practice for somebody who was as an employee to retain checks or be reimbursed for other expenses . I think it proves nothing and here is why. Michael cohen admitted today the president never directed him to lie, never directed that he spoken code and if youre around the president enough you know what the president is asking you to do without doing it. That is nonsense to someone whos been around the president every single day for three straight years now. Hes pretty direct. You see very direct. Martha let me ask you this question. Is the president concerned about this investigation . We did learn a little bit more about the Southern District of new york looking into financial impropriety or aunt weisel bergs former cfo who is cooperating witness in that case, look, the democrats are after three things today, the president knew about the trump tower meeting and he knew about leaked wikileaks and they all said that it is not true and the hush money was somehow meant to, there was a worry it would affect the election but where is the evidence, so many false accusers coming out as you know every single day the president talking about them and being interviewed at length on network and cable stations. Be when i understand all that but im asking you a separate question whether or not the president or the white house is concerned about the outstanding criminal investigation that is ongoing in the president and the Southern District of new york.
