Youre seeing them open the back of the hearse and the first lady will be removed by a military honor guard who has been here in attention. I have to tell you, it was quite a scene watching the video of the procession come through the san fernando valley. Freeways were emptied. Every overpass, you saw firefighters and Police Officers at attention at this now continues today with will this private ceremony shortly. A day where we all feel our american spirit, thats for sure. Adam, stand by. Thank you. Time to bring in Chris Wallace who personally knew mrs. Reagan. So chris as you watch this, im sure it brings back a flood of memories for you and thinking about your dad. Well, yes. You know, i have to say, this strikes me as a bittersweet day. And these next couple of days leading up to her funeral and her burial. Bitter of course because weve lost a great american. I dont think there is any question that nancy reagan, although she never held elect difference offi elective office, was a great american, played a great role in the successes of her husband. Suit sweet because she was very involved in planning every detail of these final days and especially of the funeral and the burial. And of course the ultimate on friday when she will be buried next to her beloved husband. And where she said her life began when she married Ronald Reagan. And she will be buried just inches from him on this have a ordinary hill over blooking sim valley. I was there for president rea n reagans funeral and ill never forget when she finally said goodbye to him, his flagdraped coffin, at its final resting place and she had been so brave that whole week and finally broke down. And you knew that she realized she was being separated from the love of her life. Well, now she will be reunited with him. Very aptly put, chris. Just stand by. Ill take a brie pauf pause as watch the color guard taking the casket. Ready. Down. Ready. Up. Ready, face. Forward march. If youre just joining us, were watching the color guard bringing in the casket with nancy reagan inside. You can see some of her close family members will sit down, there will be a private Family Service about ten minutes from now where we will no longer be showing what is going on inside there and then we will come back again at 2 30, that is when the general public has the ability to come in and start paying their respects. Chris wallace is still with us. And chris, i know that you had a personal relationship with mrs. Reagan. And you called her great fun and said she was very proeapproachld had a better antenna than president reagan himself. She had said that. I did an hour documentary back in 1985 and one of the things that we all knew was that she played a big role in staff. And in effect what she said was that she thought her husband was too nice, too kind and she said that she thought she had better antenna than he did. Do we want to hear this . Yeah, lets take a pause. We pray for our sister nancy she may rest and enter the life of god eteeternal rest. Receive your servant and clothe her in her heavenly wedding gar the. May she hear your words of invitation, come you blessed of my father. May she gaze upon you lord facetoface and taste the blessedness of perfect rest. May angels surround her and swallow her in peace. Into your lord we commend our sister nancy. So we were listening to the initial prayers there by the reverend kenworthy. And thousanow its a private se with the family. Sorry, chris, we were interrupted on your story about mrs. Reagans thoughts that the president was too nice sometimes. Yeah, and i will also say he condition li did not like confrontations for a man who faced down the air Traffic Controllers and soviets and all of that. Personal confrontations particularly with the staff was not something he liked, so to a certain degree she was the enforcer in the white house and she said she felt she had better an ten that than did he as to who was there to serve the reagan agenda and who was there to serve their own agenda. And the gray haired gentleman who was starting to speak, the minister when the cameras went off, is don mouma, their pastor to about 20 years before president reagan was elected. He was the pastor at the bellaire presbyterian church. He participated in reagans first inaugural. Mrs. Reagan called him to her side after the assassination attempt in 1981. Very, very cloi to tse to the r family and fitting that he is there today for that service and im sure he will lay a big role play a big role on friday, as well. Chris stand by if you will. I want to bring in somebody els play a big role on friday, as well. Chris stand by if you will. I want to bring in somebody else who knew the reagans very well and that is mark wineburg. He served in the Reagan White House and was director of Public Affairs in the office of former president reagan. Mark, i know that this is a somber day for you as youve made your way out from the east coast to california. And i know within your heart and mind, you have so many wonderful memories of nancy reagan. I do. And it is a sad day, but it is also a day to celebrate an amazing life of an amazing person. One of the memories that you have shared with me before was that she was so proud of her husband in so many moments where you especially when held the summit with any kegorbachev and they discussed the nuclear missiles. The summit which was ultimately unsecretary s. Sucre successful was an interesting time. I was sitting next to mrs. Reagan during the radio address and i said to her because she hasnt been there, mrs. Reagan, you would have been so proud of your husband there. And she sat straight up and looked at me and said, well, mark, i always have been. And it was a very telling comment. Because shes always been very proud of her husband. And were showing some of the pictures and memories that you have collected over the years of your time with the reagans. I know from knowing you personally that you have made trips out to california to make sure to keep up and stay in touch with nancy reagan. And at times you have brought your wife and your two children. But i know there was a time recently when she was rather an noticed with you because you you did what . Well, there was a time, the time just before that, i was in california and i rarnged to saro see her and it turns out the kids cooperauldnt come and my stayed home and i came and i knocked on the door and as always mrs. Reagan answered the door and she was looking over my shoulder and i didnt see anything. And i said how are you, mrs. Reagan . Well, im fine. Its nice to siee you, mrs. Reagan. Nice to see you. And she finally said are your children here . And i said, no, theyre not. You didnt bring them . No,s from reagan. Why didnt you bring them . And i said it was a long trip and the kids have school. From r. Why didnt you bring them . And i said it was a long trip and the kids have school. So theyre not coming. And i said no, not this time, but may i come in . Well, yes, yes. So we had a lovely visit. At the end of it, she showed me to the door as she always did and said next time youll bring the kids, wont you . Yes mrs. Reagan, i will. And i later found out that she had cookies and other treats on a tray and was expecting to see them. Mark, stand by if you will. Great, great personal memories from mark wineburg. Back to Chris Wallace now. Explain to me the relationship that nancy reagan had with your dad because of course he was on 60 minutes and at cbs and interviewed them and covered them. And how that transferred on to you. Yeah, let me just say first of all about mark, i havent talked to mark in 30 years. I must say, mark, youve grown up. Because he was just a kid. But he used to go with the reagans to camp david almost every weekend. So he really knew them up close and personal. I wanted to tell one quick story about you talked about the pride that nancy reagan had in her husband. Ill never forget one time, there were rituals this effect of when we got to accepted time with t spend time with the ray gans. One was as they were leaving the white house. And this was in 1984 when gary hart was doing quite well for a while in the democratic primaries against walter mondale. And sam donaldson, high colleague and competitor from abc was trying to get a rise out of reagan. And he said how are you going to beat gary hart, he comes off like john kennedy. And without missing a beat, nan nancy reagan said he comes off like Ronald Reagan. And i dont think ive ever heard such an unbridled laugh from the president. Hes Ronald Reagan, he doesnt have to worry about jack kennedy. Great story. And you just saw the two of them unvarnished. As far as my father, my father was actually friends with a woman named et dch tchleddy dav actress back in the 40s. She was Nancy Reagans mother. And nancy reagan not that she was that much younger, but she thought she was sort of younger than my father. And had kind of a teenage crush on him. And this continued over the years. And when i started covering the Reagan White House in 1982, the relationship transferred and thats how i became such good friends with nancy reagan. And as you said earlier, and i think mark would agree to this, she was she could be frosty, she could be commanding. Ive talked to members of the staff and they would talk about how relentless she was. She was an enforcer on that white house. But if you were on her good side, nobody was more fun and a sly wit. She gave you that sense that you were the only person in the room while she was talking to you. I mean she really had a wonderful Human Connection with you. And it was very, very special feeling in a relationship to have with her. So, mark, i want to deal you black in because since the passing of president reagan and for the years before that, i know that nancy was certainly the caregiver to him. So the last 12 1 2 years im sure have been difficult for her and Chris Wallace said bittersweet about this day. For nancy reagan and you who knew her so well, was she in a way looking forward to being back with her husband . She was sad. She told people they say it gets easier with time. But it sdwndoesnt. The sadness never left her. Some thought it would be a relief, but it really wasnt. And i think in a way she was ready. I know she told somebody a few months ago who was visiting with her i think maybe god forgot about me. And that person assured her that wasnt the case. That god hasnt forgotten about her. But she was 95. Lived a long full life. And i think was looking forward to being reunited with him. Mark and chris, thank you for your memories today as we honor the life of nancy reagan, the wife of the 40th president of the united states. Thank you. Lets youve move on to pol now. Marco rubio is pulling over his next youve. The senator going 0 for 4 this last nights primaries. Not picking up a single delegate. Eric eric son says now its time for rubio to drop out and join cruz and together try to tweet donald trump. Scott brown joins me now, also a trump supporter. So what do you make of that, Erick Erickson known in the conservative circles. Doesnt really like trump and now saying rubio needs to get on the bandwagon of ted cruz today so that the two of them can go out together and defeat trump. Well, i dont think marco is listening to Erick Erickson. He will do what he will do for not only him and his team but all the followers who have given blood, sweat and tears. Win or lose, i like hes a man of his word. Hes a hard worker and a proud person and he will go and see that through. And i think it helps him in terms of doing what he said he was going to do. So thats number one. Number two, people leak aike er eric so that and mitt romney and others saying he will lose to hillary. The only way that donald trump loses to hillary is if Erick Erickson, mitt romney, cruz and rubio and all their supporters stay home. Then there is a chance that he will lose to hillary. But if we unite after, its a no brainer. Pretty simple. Lets take a look at a new poll. The nbc wall street journal one shows head to head matchups against mrs. Clinton and your guy, donald trump, and then Bernie Sanders and donald trump. And i dont know if you can see the screen, but clinton 55 to trump 38 . Bernie sanders 55 to trump 37 . What do you make of that . Well, being someone who has run, ive run in 13 big races, 112 not including primaries, probably 202 when you add those all up. Polls are okay. They give you somewhat of a good indicator. But right now were so fractured as a republican party, if hes the nominee and it goes against hillary who potentially could be indicted or bernie who is a socialist, if we dont do it, shame on us. I believe that we will unite and those numbers will increase. So what do you make of the fact that a lot of the establishment saying that they wont test donald trump, there is no way that they would ever vote to him . How do you get past that . Thank you for bringing that up because two things. If he gets all the appropriate amount to be the nominee and they do something at the c convention to make sure that doesnt happen, not only will i but others like me will more than likely leave the party. If he doesnt have the delegates and its all fair and they just battle and he loses, thats a different story. But the fact that these people say they wont support the nominee after weve gone from 17 down to 4 down to 1, theyre giving up the judges and cabinet secretaries, ambassadors that potentially tie breaking vote as the Vice President comes in and does that often. And all the ancillary benefits Mitch Mcconnell and others complaining for eight years that they dont have the ability to sustain a veto. So here we go. If we lose and they dont unite, then shame on them, let them look long and hard in the mirror and then blame themselves so why it will country has 4 to 8 more years of Barack Obama Hillary clinton Bernie Sanders. Its shameful. A great point. And keep in mind that they forced him to sign the pledge to be a republican. So maybe it works both ways. Scott brown, great to see you. Thank you. More trust problems for Hillary Clinton. He had henry will join us from florida ahead of what could be a big debate between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. Jake reese, day to feel alive jake reese, day to feel alive jake reese, day to feel alive wthat you can book on our apps to make sure your little animal, enjoys her first trip to the kingdom. Expedia, technology connecting you to what matters. Her long day as anne. Hair stylist starts with shoulder pain when. Hey joanne, want to trade the all day relief of 2 aleve with 6 tylenol . Give up my 2 aleve for 6 tylenol . No thanks. For me. Its aleve. Welcome back. From feeling the burn to getting scorched, Hillary Clinton looking to redeem herself tonight after losing michigan. Ed henry live for us in miami a take. So a huge shocker. Sanders winning in michigan. She was way ahead in the polls. So what was the key to his comeback . Reporter certainly White Working Class voters helping him. He hopes to get momentum out of michigan. Next tuesday you have illinois, ohio. He hopes to again get a strong turnout. But look at this, in terms of voters in michigan, in the exit polls, telling us that a candidate being honest and trustworthy is important. 80 went with sanders, 19 with clinton. That is a massive gap and suggests even if she gets the nomination in a long run, she will have big trust problems in the general elective. Clinton camp says because of her big victory in mississippi, she won far more delegates that Bernie Sanders, maybe as much as four times as many. And so the math continues to work in her favor. Yet sanders has momentum, but she continues to have the math. Interesting as well the chicago tr tribune saying even though they backed obama both times, they wont endorse either democratic candidate saying this being a free country, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are welcome to pander. However feverishly they wish, promises vast new spending than the low growth economy can afford. Agree or disagree with marco rubio on various issues, he offers illinois voters the framework of a presidency that real liistically that could exi and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have not met that economic test. Pretty searing words. And theyre squaring off behind me. And latino voters has been a difficult sore spot for sanders. Clinton having an edge there also with africanamerican voters. Thats why shes been sweeping the south. Sanders has to make up some ground here tonight. All right. Ed, thanks much. So if you had the chance, what would you ask Governor John Kasich is th kasich . Some voters will get an opportunity tonight. A preview coming up. And three days of solemn ceremonies for nancy reagan starting today. Family, friends and complete strangers saying their final farewell to the dedicated wife of our 40th president. Back to california when we return.
