The question of whether donald trump would or would not attend the fox news debate, was a big gamble just before the caucuses. Last night we spoke to trump for his first fox interview since the debate. He was on the road at a Campaign Event<\/a> in davenport. Mr. Trump, welcome back to Fox News Sunday<\/a>. I want to start with that new iowa poll, three weeks ago you were trailing ted cruz by three points, now youre leading by 5 points, i guess the question for you is how come . We had a great week, maybe even a great couple of weeks in iowa. I have a fantastic relationship with the people of awe iowa, the evangelicals and the people of awe iowa. We have done a lot of work and have gotten to know a lot more people. But some very special things happened over to the last two weeks. 29 of people in the polls say they disapprove of your decision to skip the debate. What do you want to say to voters in these final hours before the caucuses who may feel that you snubbed them by not showing up at the one debate to be held here in iowa . You love fox and so do i and we get along great. But what happened is they put out a press release that was very nasty and it was taunting. I dont want to get into that. Im just saying, what do you want to say voters who feel that you smnubbed them . I have to say that you have to stick up for your rights, you cant let people do that to you. Just like if i was running the country, i would stick up for the country. I had a tremendous event, a tremendous overflow crowd and for the president vets we raised 6 million. It was a great thing, it was a great decision and well do it again sometime, chris. Okay. Ted cruz, who i suspect youre familiar with, says the real reason that you skipped the debate is that you want to hide your liberal record from voters. Heres mr. Cruz. He doesnt want to debate cronyism, because donald supported president obamas t. A. R. P. Bail out of the big wall street banks, donald supported president obamas stimulus plan. Senator cruz says mr. Trump that youre trying to hide your support for the bailout and the stimulus, youre trying to hide your record from voters. Chris, im not trying to hide anything, i was a businessman, i had many different feelings about many different things. And in business, you have flexibility. You can do many things, many different ways. What i am very sure of is that senator cruz has hid the fact that he had major loans from citibank and goldmansachs that he didnt put on his financial addition loez your form. I wasnt in politics when i was a businessman, my views didnt matter, i wasnt a politician, for the last few months ive been a approximately politician. But hes got a situation where he didnt disclose goldmansa s goldmansachs, he didnt disclose citibank on his personal Financial Disclosure<\/a> thing. He didnt disclose the whole thing that he was born the in canada, which probably makes it hes not even able to run. And he said he didnt even know he was a citizen of canada until 15 months ago. Heres a couple of things, he didnt know he was a citizen of canada . Give me a break, chris. You talked earlier about the veterans event you held during the the bait and that youre proud of it. Understandably so, you raised 6 million including a Million Dollars<\/a> out of your own possibility. But Forbes Magazine<\/a> looked at your record of supporting veterans groups over the years, and they found that from 2009 to 2015, the Trump Foundation<\/a> donated 57,000 to groups helping veterans, but over the years, they say you gave at least twice that, 100,000 to 250,000 to of all things, the Clinton Foundation<\/a>. What i have done is i have given a lot of different events for the veterans. We have i can get you a les of all of the events i have given in palm beach, florida and Different Hotels<\/a> i have for the have the trans, i have opened up my a houses and in a kl of cases my buildings. But i can give you that list. I did give to the Clinton Foundation<\/a>, what i didnt know is that they would be using it for private aircraft and the Clinton Foundation<\/a> was helping with haiti and lots of other things, so i thought it would be a good thing. But again i was a businessman and it was my obligation to get along with everybody, including the clintons and to the republicans and conservatives, as a businessman i had an obligation to do that, chris. We were talking about your support among the various groups here in iowa, 15 of republican caucusgoers identify themselves as evangelicals and youre doing very well with social conservatives. I know that youre cam paning today with Jerry Fallwell<\/a> jr. , the president of Liberty University<\/a> who endorsed you. And 52 of white evangelicals say that you would be a good or great president. And you dont fit the evang evangelical social conservative profile and so why do you think youre doing so well with that group . Im more honored when i hear that statistic what when i hear that im winning the poll by a pretty good number. And a few weeks ago i was down in this poll. But i think i may be more honored by winning among the evangelicals because i have just had a great relationship. When you have Jerry Fallwell<\/a> jr. Endorse me, that was a very big turning point. I went to Liberty University<\/a>, gave a speech, we set the alltime record for attendance, i can just tell you, theres something very special, as you know, im christian, im presbyterian, but theres been something very special with the evan swe ev evangelicals and my relationship with them. So im very happy about it. But its been the support of robert and jeffrey and many other pastors, we have had tremendous support from ministers, pastor and from christians generally and from evangelicals, so im very happy about it. Lets take one issue, you say now that the Supreme Court<\/a> has ruled that samesex marriage is the law of the land and that any politician who talks with about wanting to amend the constitution is just playing politics . Are you saying its time the to move on . No, im saying this, it has been ruled upon, it has been there. If im a if im elected, i would be very strong in putting certain judges on the bench that i think maybe could change things. They got a long way to go. At some point we have to get back down to business. And theres no question about it. And most people feel that way. They have ruled on it. I wish it would have been done by the state. I dont agree with the Supreme Court<\/a>, it should be a states right issue, and thats the way. The not the way they did it. This was a very surprising ruling. But i would have much preferred that they rule at a state level and allowed states to make a those rules themselves. Are you saying that off you become president , you might try to a point justices to overrule the decision on samesex marriage . I would strongly consider that, yes. Finally, you were campaigning with your daughter ivanca, whos very pregnant, i think eight months pregnant, and you had a suggestion for how she could help the campaign, here it ivan if you had your baby in iowa. Dont you think it would be better for her to have her baby in a state that has more delegates . That was tiowa would be a great place for her to have a baby and frankly so would New Hampshire<\/a> and so would south carolina. But they would all be great places for her to have her baby, shes a great person and hopefully its going to be a healthy baby. Too bad shes not having triplets. Put together the new iowa poll from your paper, the Des Moines Register<\/a>, what youre seeing on the ground, where do you get a sense of the republican side things are headed tomorrow night . First of all, i think that that we see donald trump with a decent lead going into the Iowa Caucuses<\/a>, a 5 lead is usually a pretty good indication. However, ted cruz really has a lot going for him in this poll. Including the people who are most likely to turn out, the very conservative voters, evangelicals, we know that off theres a blizzard, theyre going to shovel their way to the caucus. Governor branstat, you have made it very clear, youre not endorsing anybody, but you kind of disendorsed somebody because you thought it would be a big mistake for iowa to support ted cruz because of his up assumption of the ethanol mandate, you have had some nice things to say about donald trump about effective leadership and making America Great<\/a> again. So are you saying go with trump . What im saying is we have got a lot of great an dats, most of them lead ethanol. And cruzs voting record has been against ethanol, farm income is important. Im the governor of iowa, i trust iowa voters, i trust my iowa cauc voters, they have ele month me very many times. But cruzs record has been against renewable fuels. Iowa leads the nation in ethanol production. Were the leader in wind energy, we just saw the Wind Energy Tax<\/a> credit extended, cruz is opposed to that. Those are thousands of jobs in our state. People making wind blades and turbines and towers and we want to protect those jobs and we want to continue to grow the iowa economy. There are a couple of big stories going into tomorrow night, one is obviously who is going to win, and it seems its likely to be one of those front runners, trump or krz, and marco rubio, is he a strong thursday or does he even finish third, how much can this result, these Iowa Caucuses<\/a> going to reshape the republican this is. Unless some of these candidates have done so poorly, theyre not going to be able to continue because you simply have to have money to continue. This is the way its always been. And i would say this, by the way, about the trump support es, they dont particularly fit the proapproximate file of your iowa caucusgoer. But they are the most intense people i have ever dealt with, i see them all the time on twitter. They dont care for any criticism of him. My sense they will turn out. Some of them may go to the wrong place, but i think theyre going to be out in force, so i dont think there should be a low expectation of the trump supporters. A its different from a primary, you have to show up at a school gym or a church basement, and you have to spend a cull of hours standing up for your person. We have asked you for equestions from the panel. We got this on face book from mel van, he writes, i was disappointed in donald and think it could hurt him in iowa. Do you agree . How do you answer, mel, and do you think trumps deassumption to stay out of the debate can hurt him in the caucuses . You would think it would, but it seems to be a no harm, no foul outcome. He clearly did very, very well in the very predictive, historically predictive poll. And within that poll are findings that really dont seem to indicate at all that people are penalizing him for having skipped and at the same time, the ratings for the debate were high. Its sort of seems to have neutralized on with both sides. Governor, your sense, does the debate boycott hurt trmp, is it something thats going to affect votes . I certainly wouldnt advise anybody to skip a fox debate right before the election. But the a fact that he had an event for veterans, they had a a huge turnout for that. Hes a very unconventional candidate and he has done a lot of things that we thought would hurt him. It doesnt seem to have. I guess well find out on monday night. I just dont know. Pat, the Des Moines Register<\/a> poll is interesting. Basically almost 80 of voters either say they approved of the decision to skip or they just didnt care. But there was about 29 who said it did bother them. And 29 could with be a factor in a close race. But 29 said that it bothered them and 25 they said didnt care. So thats 4 difference on caucus night. Maybe if the debate were last night, it would be right on the top of peoples thinking, but the fact that ted cruz was there and was expose to a lot of attacks. So i think overall, its good for donald trump. Panel, we have to take a break here, but when we come back, well take a look at the democratic race in iowa as the email scandal steals the headlines. We invite Hillary Clinton<\/a> and Bernie Sanders<\/a> every week, and every week, they turn us down. The sanders camp responds politely, and the Clinton Campaign<\/a> doesnt even respond. Clinton shows a 3 point lead over sanders, your sense of things of where things are headed tomorrow night . 3 points, enough ahead, it looks as though unless something really strange happens with turnout or weather that she will just squeak by, that appears to be the most likely outcome. Just squeaking by is certainly not where she was here only two months ago, certainly not where she wants to be, the Sanders Campaign<\/a> is already claiming momentum, the Des Moines Register<\/a>al poll and presuming that he does very, very well here, just not with well enough to beat her, they will continue to claim that momentum going into New Hampshire<\/a>. First i want to ask you, governor, the breaking news on the democratic side has been the fact that the Obama Administration<\/a> announced that they cant release dozens of pages of clinton private emails because they are too sensitive. Here is Administration Spokesman<\/a> don kirk. Nine in four, found in 22 documents represents 37 pages, the documents are being upgraded a at the request of the Defense Department<\/a> because they contain sensitive information. Governor, i know youre not following this sbntity, but your sense of the email scandal. I dont think it sits very well. Even among democrats, a lot of people really question here integrity, her tess and i think in the general election, it could with be a big issue if she ends being the democratic nominee. She doesnt have a lot of people that believe or trust her. They believe that she and her husband have always thought they were above the law and they dont have to abide the rules that the rest of us have to. I think its a problem. Kathy, you heard what ann just said, this isnt a prediction, but just her read right,is that clinton just squeaks by, based on the latest poll, the ground game, the size of the crowd, what is your prediction of what happens in the clinton wouldnt get beat by a charismatic barack obama by by a 74yearold socialist. There are parallels to 2008 because Bernie Sanders<\/a> has a similar Coalition Supporting<\/a> him like were not seeing a huchblg service, generally speaking, a really big turn out. Were not seeing that sort of build to a record turnout. Thats going to change in a very short period of time. Theres one number in that iowa poll that would give you a sense of why Bernie Sanders<\/a> is doing as well as he is. And why he just might have a trip with a pair of systemary. 67 of democrats said that the system is rigged. Only, you know, some tiny number said that it is fair. That is the soul of Bernie Sanders<\/a> message. That the capitalist system is rigged and the billionaire class is a bunch of pirates and the little guy is getting screwed. That sentiment, that strong, i think accounts in large measure for his success. One interesting point about that, that characterizes Donald Trumps<\/a> supporters more than anything else. All republicans demographics say the system is working fine except for donald trump supporters. Brit, i just want to go, big picture, step back and give us a 30,000 front view of this. Clinton sanders, the fbi investigation and there were big revelations this week about these emails that are too secret to even be released at all. The possibility that a new mainstream big name democrat could still get in. Whats the possibility this race gets upended . If something that happens that makes us think shes seriously likely to be indicted or could be indicted, and who knows what would happen on the democratic side. There are lots of variables out there. If Bernie Sanders<\/a> does respectably well, even if he doesnt win, moves on to New Hampshire<\/a> with a huge lead, if he wins there, that could be huge headlines. That could shake up the race as it heads south. Its supposed to be a great fire wall for clinton in the south. Im not sure thats true. Theres a lot of variables on the democratic side that will unfold as we go forward here. Anne, i cut you off. I was just going to say, that whole economic populism point that the deck is stacked and things are rigged against the little guy is a theme that Hillary Clinton<\/a> has tried to strike and essentially cooped first from Elizabeth Warren<\/a> and then Bernie Sanders<\/a>. But it hasnt taken. Its an applause line in the room and it certainly resonates in the moment. But people consistently in this poll and others name sanders as the person that speaks to them on this point. In brooklyn, where the Clinton Campaign<\/a> headquarters is based, they say, look, even if sanders wins iowa, even if sandewins New Hampshire<\/a>, they have this fire wall when we go down south. Do they really believe that . They believe it but they dont want to test it. Who would . Clearly, statistically, shes got a lot of things going for her. In south carolina, nevada, too, which vote next. And then the southern states, shes way ahead of him. That could change. We have about 30 seconds left. I know they play it down publicly, but behind the scenes, anne, your best of how worried they really are about this fbi investigation . Worried. Because its a giant unknown.
