Preparations and what you need to know. Hes an army captain and parttime investigator, tracking down military medals and returning them to their rightful owners. Ill find the item and then ill see if its traceable to a specific veteran. Its an honor to be here to present you with your uncles medals. Tonight, purple hearts reunited. And a tractor trailer catches some air. Youll see what happened after it landed. And dont mind me. Im just going to borrow this dumpster here. The bear burglar of colorado, coming up. Im in tonight for shepard smith. A Terror Threat is triggering a Global Travel alert for all americans and shutting down nearly two dozen american embassies and consulates this weekend. This appears to be the real deal, a real plot in the making, not just aspirational chatter among terrorists. Tonight a pentagon official telling fox news the military is taking action as well, but keeping details under wraps. Here is a look at the u. S. Countries where embassies and consulates will be closed on sunday. Usually a workday in these areas. Officials are still debating whether to keep facilities closed long after that. The uk now reports it will also close its embassy in yemen and the u. S. State department has put out a Worldwide Travel alert for american citizens for the entire month of august, saying, quote, current information suggests that al qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond and that they may focuses efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of august. Today on studio b, a former state Department Senior adviser said this is a pretty big deal. Its a rare occurrence, and so many embassies from cairo all the way to baghdad, everything in between, it really looks like a serious threat theyre reaacting to. The state department is recommending americans register overseas travel plans on the Department Web site state. Gov. Take extra precautions, especially on Public Transportation and at Tourist Attractions when youre outside this country. Were live at the white house. A pretty rare decision to close so many embassies. Reporter youre right, harris. Were just being told the president is being briefed on a terrorist threat occurring in or emanating from the arabian peninsula, that includes yemen where there have been a number of u. S. Drone strikes in recent days. The threat officials are concerned could exist for another month. Now, the scope of the embassy closings totally unprecedented, 21 embassies and consulates in 17 different countries, and this sunday the state department will close more than twice as many embassies and consulates as it closed on the oneyear anniversary of the 9 11 attacks. There doesnt seem to be a lot of criticism. This is a world that is a very complex world, and were going to make sure that we protect our embassies. And thats critical at this moment, whether to send a message that the United States is not going to be under attack and were protecting our folks. Reporter still, some people are concerned that by forcing the u. S. To essentially go into hiding the terrorists win and the longer the embassies stay closed the worse it is for the u. S. Harris . No doubt some of our viewers are thinking about its just been about 11 months that our outpost in benghazi, libya, was attacked. How much has security been improved . Some embassies have been hardened and pentagon has repositioned marines to more fully respond to attacks. But some want more marines stationed at u. S. Embassies and consulates and better private security as well. We saw what happened in bengha benghazi. We saw what happened when the local militia th absolutely evaporated before the attack. So instead, we changed that process for contracting, no longer does it have to be lowest bid its going to be on best value, not lowest price. Reporter congressman ed royce says the House Foreign Affairs Committee Just passed legislation that would beef up embassy security. Harris . Wendell, thank you very much. A story thats been shaping up all day. Well bring you more news as it warrants. Again, when we talk about protecting our diplomatic facilities in the middle east and north africa, benghazi comes to mind immediately. Were still trying to find out exactly what happened the night our ambassador and three other americans were killed on september 11th of last year. Now theres word the government troyed to keep some cia employees from telling us their stories about that night. James rosen live in our d. C. Newsroom now. James in. Harris, good evening. One cia source tells fox news sensitivity to possible press leaks about benghazi runs so strong at the top echelons of the agency its likened to a nuclear blanket on the issue. Fox news has cia employees were made to sign dee the fact each had signed them prior to the attack. Some republican lawmakers see the Obama Administration thwarting cooperation with congress, too. Nearly six months ago i wrote secretary kerry asking for the names and Contact Information of the state Department Employees who were in benghazi last september. The department refused to provide this information or even confirm the number of those wounded and the nature of their injuries. The cia enabled all officers involved in benghazi the opportunity to meet with congress, Agency Spokesman dean boyd shot back in a statement to fox news saying, we are not aware of any employees who has been prevented from sharing a concern with congress about the benghazi incident. And at least one survivor of benghazi has aired his story to congress. Fox news has learned a cia operator on the ground that night has met privately with the House Intelligence Committee twice since december. Whether its about the attacks in benghazi and the talking points or revelations about conduct at the irs that attempts to turn this into a scandal have failed. Next month will mark one year since the benghazi attacks killed four americans. No arrests have been made in the case. Harris . James rosen, thank you. Iced coffee laced with pois poison. Thats what prosecutors say killed a potential witness in the trial of Whitey Bulger. But officials in massachusetts say it was a different con man, not bulger, who was behind that murder. Heres the wouldbe witness who said he wanted to testify against bulger, whos on trial accused of 19 murders. The man turned up dead last month, just one day after prosecutors had said they would not call him to the stand after all. Police say theyve arrested a business associate if his death, and it had nothing to do with bulger. Instead, they say that guy owed the victim tons of money and that he once served time for running a huge mail fraud racquet. All of this new information coming as 83yearold Whitey Bulger told the judge he would not take the stand in his own defense but that the move was involuntary. He said, quote, i didnt get a fair trial and this is a sham, and do what youse want with me. Again, im quoting. While he was speaking a widow of the man hes accused of killing yelled out, youre a coward. After court that widow explained her outburst. Because he had nothing to lose, and he really wanted to put the government in its place. I dont know why he didnt have the nerve to get up there and do that. Earlier in the day, bulger tried to make amends, apparently. He offered the widow and another murdered mans money some 800,000 in cash that the feds seized from his hideout. Molly live outside the courthouse in boston tonight. Molly, what is next for this bizarre trial . The closing arguments are slated for monday, and today as the judge worked to confirm that bulger was choosing not to testify voluntarily, bulger, this accused crime boss, actually said he was making this choice involuntarily, saying that he felt choked off from having an opportunity to give an adequate defense. What about the suspect in the murder of the man who wanted to testify against bulger . Right. Well, 59yearold steven rakes, prosecutors say, believe he was poisf1 o running a liquor store, that bulger had forced him to sell a liquor store. But prosecutors say it was a 69yearold man who was arrested today, charged with attempted murder in rakes death. We allege that this defendant, mr. Ka mutety, intentionally put poison in the victims iced coffee, drove around for several hours with mr. Rakes in his car, and you c even see words like that it really doesnt help. And a Marilyn Monroe imperson eightor becomes the latest woman to accuse san diegos mayor of touching her had inappropriately. And youll hear her story. Stay close. And dont get heartburn in the first place. [ male announcer ] one pill each morning 24 hours. Zero heartburn. [ male announcer ] one pill each morning it was the best day it was the best day yeah it was the best day ecause of yo [sigh] [echoing] we make a great pair. Huh . Progressive and the Great Outdoors we make a great pair. Right, totally, uh. Thats what i was thinking. Covering the things that make the outdoors great. Now, thats progressive. Call or click today. The Internal Revenue service is not cooperating with an investigation. During a hearing on Identity Theft today, congressman darrell issa of california will switched topics and blasting the agencys boss for not handing over the documents theyre demanding. We asked you 4 information. We set the priority if you are going to slowroll us and you are slowrolling us. That is not true. You are obstructing the facts. That is not true. Not supported. So now backandforth. The acting irs chief said more than 100 irs staffers are working to produce documents for congress, and he said theyve handed over tens of thousands of pages so far. But congressman issa pointed out with, as you can see for yourself, the problem. Some have been completely redacted, noting theyre not very helpful. The irs chief said blacking out some of the information was necessary to protect individual taxpayers privacy. Mike emanuel live in d. C. With this. Mike, what did they say today about emails from key ficks in all of this . Well, harris, lawmakers went after one of the key figures in the targeting of conservative groups, lois lerners paid leave. She came to capitol hill, gave a statement defending herself and refused to answer questions. So the idea today was, if shes not going to talk to lawmakers or congressional staff, give us her email now. Every single email that of lois lerners weve asked for youve sent to us . I no, but we provided hundreds of her emails. But again, this is a process. No, no, no, no, no. Its pretty simple. You go to her computer and you get her ema white house. The treasury spokesperson says the general counsels office is reviewing the subpoena and treasury is committed to cooperating with this review. Harris . The republicans with a lot to work with today when you look at those blackedout pages. They pretty much say, well, you cant read them. Clearly republicans are on the offense against the irs. So what do leading democrats do . Well, harris, democrats try to defend werfel and his team. Some were critical of j. Russell george who has been investigated. There were accusations george has been blocking information about the irs scrutiny of liberal groups in a suggestion the Inspector General has not wanted to release some materials. The ig reached outs to me and expressed concerns about our pending delivery of the information. So you were about to hand us documents. The same kind of documents mr. Issa just asked about. But then the ig says no. Also today, the house voted 232185 to eliminate the irss role in implementing the president S Health Care law. Harris . Mike emanuel, thank you very much. Fox news can confirm tonight the military has removed 60 Service Members from their posts as Sexual Assault counselors, recruiters and drill instructors after reviewing their records. And an overwhelming majority of those members were in the army. Defense secr military to review the records of Sexual Assault counselors and recruiters in may in response to a series of sex scandals, one involving a sex prevention officer suspected of running a prostitution ring. Another report indicated some 26,000 troops fell victim to sex assaults last year, a 35 jump from 2010. The offenses ranged from groping to rape. A spokesperson with the Defense Department today said it was no higher priority than protecting our troops and ensuring that they are safe from Sexual Harassment and assault. Well, a ninth woman is now accusing san diegos mayor bob filner of sex harassment. She happens to be a Marilyn Monroe impersonator. Emily gilbert said she sang at a fundraiser for the mayor last year and then this happened. Hugged me a little too closely and then put his arm around me like this and then he proceeded to slide his arm down and then give a little grab to my derriere. So far no response from mayor filner. Hes refusing to resign, as you know, but says hell start intensive therapy next week. The muchanticipated july jobs report is out. It looks good, but dont break out the champagne just yet. Well tell you why. Plus, millions of americans without cbs or showtime tonight. Getting this screen. Thats a lot of fine print. After a Cable Provider pulled the plug. Thats all aahead inside the fox report. Head inside the fx report. Mom always got Good Nutrition to taste great. She was a picky eater. We now im her dietitian. Anlast year, she wasntating so well. Time warner cable subscribers in new york, los angeless and several other major u. S. Cities got quite a surprise while watching cbs. The Cable Provider cut away from the network and put up this message about 5 00 eastern. All of this over a recent contract dispute. The message reads in part, cbs has made outrageous demands for the programming it delivers free over the air and online requiring us to remove their stations from your lineup. While we continue to negotiate for fair and reasonable terms. Time warner also reports it is taking down cbsowned channels including showtime and tnc. In a statement cbs says in part, throughout this process Time Warner Cable has conducted negotiations in a combative and nonproductive spirit, indulging in pointless brinksmanship and distorted public positioning. Well, the u. S. Unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level in more than four years, but its not all good news. While the Unemployment Rate fell from 7. 6 in june to 7. 4 just last month, companies only added 162,000 jobs. Thats fewer than economists were expecting. And part of the reason the rate dropped is some people simply gave up looking for work. Thats a trend weve been our jobs drought for years now. One analyst says a lot of the jobs people are finding arent paying very much. In his words, quote, weve become a nation of burger flippers. Wall street made some small gains today, the dow up 30, nasdaq about 14 and s p 5003. Peter barnes is live for us in washington. Peter, no shame in flipping burgers, but if you came from a career position and youre doing it, its a tough row to hoe. Thats right, harris. Economists have been worried about the quality of some of these new jobs. In recent months a growing share of them are in lower paying industries. In july, retailers added about 47,000 new vjobs. Business and professional services added 36,000, leisure and hospitality, lots of restaurants, added 23,000 positions, and Financial Services grew by 15,000 jobs. Now, the president s top economist said that the report showed continued progress in job operation but not enough progression, and he called on republicans to support the president s jobs proposals or at least do no harm. There are a number of steps that congress could take, but most importantly they shouldnt take steps backwards. They shouldnt shoot ourselves in the foot by having a shutdown over the budget or, worse yet, the unthinkable, another fight over the debt limit. But House Speaker john boehner said in a statement, quote, nearly five years of aggressive intervention by washington, the stimulus era of excessive spending, excessive red tape and aabuse by agencies like the irs, has left our economy treading water with slow growth, high unemployment, and stagnant wages. He said republican jobs proposals would work better. Harris . No doubt, peter, people know its true. If youve been out of work for a while, any job will feel like a blessing. Peter barnes, thank you very much. In indiana, a semitractor trailer went airborne above a highway after someone ran the driver off the road. You can see the semi flip up over the road before coming down and bursting into flames. This is greensburg, about 50 miles southeast of indianapolis. State police say that driver had some minor injuries and his 7yearold son who was with him just has a few scratches, thankfully. They say this all happened when another vehicle drifted into the trucks lane. The truck driver says he swerved to avoid a collision, ripped through the guardrail, and then launched over the highway. Wow. Police tell us they dont anticipate filing any charges in the crash. Edward snowden has a new place to stay in russia, according to his attorney. Well find out whos taking in the nsa leaker until he finds a home of his own. And prosecutors say theyre keeping m
