the comedian later expressed remorse saying i apologize to valerie jarrett and all americans. i am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. i should have known better. forgive me, my joke was in bad taste. as a result of the uproar, abc is pulling the plug on the wildly popular "roseanne" by releasing the statement. roseann's twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our vues and we have decided to cancel h show. speak about the tone does start at the top and we like to look up to our president and feel as though he is reflects the values of our country, but i also think every individual citizen has the responsibility, too. our government will only be as good as we make it. people on the inside have to push hard and people on the outside have to listen. >> jesse: i could not believe this news, dana, when i side break today, probably close to your hour. what a dumb thing to think and then say on twitter. >> dana: it was awful. it broke around 1:54 p.m. and so i had to call my trusty friend greg gutfeld, and i know it's one of those things where it's just beyond the pale. so abc does a very quick cost benefit analysis. he says it's not consistent with our values and a private corporation can do what they should need to do. they gave her a second chance to relaunch this program and it was wildly successful, to get signed for a second year. i really feel for the people who are working underneath that sho show. we had probably hundreds of people who will never be seen on the program but they are the ones doing all of the work on the background. running to get coffee, wardrobe, set design, and, she destroyed a lot of people's career trajectory is, obviously. she is paying a price as she should. what do you think about what happen and do you think about valerie jarrett saying, start at the top with the president? >> well well below donald trump was in office, roseann was always saying, absolutely that crazy stuff. and we knew that she said some completely crazy stuff, but maybe she changed. it's a new start, and that is not the case. a lot of people are saying that is a freedom of speech issue, but not really. read him of speech i work has consequences. we talked about this with the nfl, saying the nfl can make their own rules. so if you are going to do something objectionable roseann did at a place of work, abc is every bit right as fox news would be if anyone had done something as absurd, ridiculous and hateful as that. i do think it's incorrect to broadly blame a political party or politician over this. it's not that, it's the individual. the other point to make is, twitter can ruin a career faster than a string of phonies. i said on your show, it used to be the office christmas party that would get you fired. you could just cut to the chase, get on twitter, wasted or not, and just think, this can't hurt. i will just say this. the next day, the company cuts you because they have to. it's part of the deal, of the job. one less thing to reiterate as i sit on your show, comedians have a flaw within them and that is the desire to jump off of cliffs. people becomomedians for that reason, to jump off of cliffs. they get on stage and it's to see what happens, and this is what happens sometimes. >> and so late in a long, storied career. it's not a mistake that a 2020-year-old person would make. >> you know who made this mistake? alec baldwin. he got fired, and got a second chance. so who knows that she will be afforded. joy reid got an amazing second chance after a paper trail of homophobia. and that was after they had given another shot. and roseann ball has apologized but there is really no cure for something so abhorrent and racially insensitive. and abc acted decisively and with authority, and compelling amorality on this issue to say, listen. this is not appropriate, what happened. despite the fact that this was a tremendous opportunity for the network in terms of the show, they made the right decision to say, we will not tolerate or standby when we see one of our stars behave in aay like this and say these things on twitter. i think to equatet thou and say that it has anything to do with the president of the united states, is a stretch. roseanne barr has been a around a long time and she has a responsibility for what she chooses to do. i do think about the jobs and the people, like dana, you mentioned. we are really excited about this opportunity for the families and everybody, and i think the ripple effect will be tremendous. this was a chance for a new start, a new beginning for that show and so many people associated with it along the line, the production team and the crew, all of the above. i hope they are able to find jobs and land in a good place despite having to go through this hardship. >> jesse: she had been continuing to say political provocative things over the course of the reboot that most people wouldn't get away with in hollywood, and she was able to get away with it until she went way overboard with something out of left field like that. easy decision for abc. do you think there is any responsibility for mismanaging her or is it all on her? >> i think it was all on her. the fact that she had a long leash, they had let other tweets go at least publicly. they had given her a chance to be provocative and outrageous because that's who she is, but this went too far. they made clear this was beyond the pale, beyond the line. she could tweet incredibly offensive things on a number of issues over many years and like greg said, twitter can be very problematic. there's a reason i'm not on twitter, not that i would tweet things like this. >> jesse: is probably good that i'm not -- you're not on twitter. >> yes i know. but it's so easy to tweet and not think. she has a long history of this and it speech has. abc was absolutely within its right. >> she said it was a joke. i didn't think it sounded like a joke. >> then the apology doesn't seem real. like sorry you don't understand how hilarious i am, but because i'm so funny -- i also think that conspiracy theorists, or a conspiracy theory are dangerous. you go down this rabbit hole. it's kind of fun to think about for a second, like are there ufos and things, but you go down those dark roads. what happened, apparently she was responding to something from a conspiracy theory website and it spiraled out of control. it used to be that before twitter, all the things you said it, you might have said it to your neighbor or whoever you are hanging out with. maybe they would laugh, maybe they would not or maybe they would punch you in the face. but doing it on twitter is such a bad idea. many people think they have to be on twitter to advance their career. maria, you are a good example that that is not true. you are not on twitter for a reason for him it is hateful toward you and you don't need to see all that junk. but i do wonder if too many of us who are in television or due books or even politics and actors, we think we are so clever to be on twitter and you need to do that to advance your career, even if it's not true. >> even i would extend that to a kid working at arby's who has 20 followers who believes that nobody is going to look. >> remember that woman who went to south africa to find out she was fired? >> jesse: twitter can take something that used to be local and make it national. and maybe that's good, maybe instead of religion, twitter is now the new moral authority. now it's not the priest of that is telling you how to live, it's this incredible amorphous mob that's out there that says, no. that's wrong. i do believe -- >> that's like kathy griffin. even bill marr lost his job immediately after the comment he made it after 9/11 about the hijackers. it's not new and people do pay the price, so i'm not sure if there is a double standard. people are on twitter saying, why isn't this person getting fired after what he said about christian? >> jesse: i think this one was just so over the line. and you know kimberly, the muslim brotherhood, that get -- gets kicked around. but when you combine that with the "planet of the apes," it's so toxic and you can't really ever come back. >> there is no humor in it, ad hopefully it's a lesson to people that this kind of hateful rhetoric will not be tolerated or accepted. >> jesse: the liberal media busted for spreading fake news about trump. greg will explain, next. ♪ he's got a smile that, seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories, when everything was big as a bright new sky ♪ and for psoriatic arthritis, otezla is proven to reduce joint swelling, tenderness, and pain. and the otezla prescribing information has no requirement for routine lab monitoring. don't use if you're allergic to otezla. otezla may cause severe diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. tell your doctor if these occur. otezla is associated with an increased risk of depression. tell your doctor if you have a history of depression or suicidal thoughts, or if these feelings develop. some people taking otezla reported weight loss. your doctor should monitor your weight and may stop treatment. other side effects include upper respiratory tract infection and headache. tell your doctor about all the medicines you take and if you're pregnant or planning to be. ♪ otezla. show more of you. when this guy got a flat tire in the middle of the night, so he got home safe. yeah, my dad says our insurance doesn't have that. what?! you can leave worry behind when liberty stands with you™. liberty mutual insurance. with expedia, you can book a flight, hotel, car, and activity... all in one place. ♪ everything you need to go. ♪ expedia® but prevagen helps your brain with an ingredient ♪ originally discovered... in jellyfish. in clinical trials, prevagen has been shown to improve short-term memory. prevagen. the name to remember. >> jesse: evil trump strikes again, shocking in images of immigrant children speaking in cages on the floor. not so fast everyone, turns out these pictures were four years old. that was when their hero, obama was in charge. and with that, the loud condemnations go silent. but who cares now, their idol was boss at the time. this photo of an all baby seat immigration detention bus was also called a prison bus just for babies. but the photo was also from obama's era and it's a bus for field trips. and did you hear the widely shared claim about 1500 immigrant kids that were separated from mom and dad again by evil trump? the comedian later expressed remorse saying i apologize to valerie jarrett and all americans. i am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. i should have known better. forgive me, my joke was in bad taste. as a result of the uproar, abc is pulling the plug on the wildly popular "roseanne" by releasing the statement. roseann's twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our vues and we have decided to cancel h show. speak about the tone does start at the top and we like to look up to our president and feel as though he is reflects the values of our country, but i also think every individual citizen has the responsibility, too. our government will only be as good as we make it. people on the inside have to push hard and people on the outside have to listen. >> jesse: i could not believe this news, dana, when i side break today, probably close to your hour. what a dumb thing to think and then say on twitter. >> dana: it was awful. it broke around 1:54 p.m. and so i had to call my trusty friend greg gutfeld, and i know it's one of those things where it's just beyond the pale. so abc does a very quick cost benefit analysis. he says it's not consistent with our values and a private corporation can do what they should need to do. they gave her a second chance to relaunch this program and it was wildly successful, to get signed for a second year. i really feel for the people who are working underneath that sho show. we had probably hundreds of people who will never be seen on the program but they are the ones doing all of the work on the background. running to get coffee, wardrobe, set design, and, she destroyed a lot of people's career trajectory is, obviously. she is paying a price as she should. what do you think about what happen and do you think about valerie jarrett saying, start at the top with the president? >> well well below donald trump was in office, roseann was always saying, absolutely that crazy stuff. and we knew that she said some completely crazy stuff, but maybe she changed. it's a new start, and that is not the case. a lot of people are saying that is a freedom of speech issue, but not really. read him of speech i work has consequences. we talked about this with the nfl, saying the nfl can make their own rules. so if you are going to do something objectionable roseann did at a place of work, abc is every bit right as fox news would be if anyone had done something as absurd, ridiculous and hateful as that. i do think it's incorrect to broadly blame a political party or politician over this. it's not that, it's the individual. the other point to make is, twitter can ruin a career faster than a string of phonies. i said on your show, it used to be the office christmas party that would get you fired. you could just cut to the chase, get on twitter, wasted or not, and just think, this can't hurt. i will just say this. the next day, the company cuts you because they have to. it's part of the deal, of the job. one less thing to reiterate as i sit on your show, comedians have a flaw within them and that is the desire to jump off of cliffs. people becomomedians for that reason, to jump off of cliffs. they get on stage and it's to see what happens, and this is what happens sometimes. >> and so late in a long, storied career. it's not a mistake that a 2020-year-old person would make. >> you know who made this mistake? >> i think it was all on her. the fact that she had a long leash, they had let other tweets go at least publicly. they had given her a chance to be provocative and outrageous because that's who she is, but this went too far. they made clear this was beyond the pale, beyond the line. she could tweet incredibly offensive things on a number of issues over many years and like greg said, twitter can be very problematic. there's a reason i'm not on twitter, not that i would tweet things like this. >> jesse: is probably good that i'm not -- you're not on twitter. >> yes i know. but it's so easy to tweet and not think. she has a long history of this and it speech has. abc was absolutely within its right. >> she said it was a joke. i didn't think it sounded like a joke. >> then the apology doesn't seem real. like sorry you don't understand how hilarious i am, but because i'm so funny -- i also think that conspiracy theorists, or a conspiracy theory are dangerous. you go down this rabbit hole. it's kind of fun to think about for a second, like are there ufos and things, but you go down those dark roads. what happened, apparently she was responding to something from a conspiracy theory website and it spiraled out of control. it used to be that before twitter, all the things you said it, you might have said it to your neighbor or whoever you are hanging out with. maybe they would laugh, maybe they would not or maybe they would punch you in the face. but doing it on twitter is such a bad idea. many people think they have to be on twitter to advance their career. maria, you are a good example that that is not true. you are not on twitter for a reason for him it is hateful toward you and you don't need to see all that junk. but i do wonder if too many of us who are in television or due books or even politics and actors, we think we are so clever to be on twitter and you need to do that to advance your career, even if it's not true. >> even i would extend that to a kid working at arby's who has 20 followers who believes that nobody is going to look. >> remember that woman who went to south africa to find out she was fired? >> jesse: twitter can take something that used to be local and make it national. and maybe that's good, maybe instead of religion, twitter is now the new moral authority. now it's not the priest of that is telling you how to live, it's this incredible amorphous mob that's out there that says, no. that's wrong. i do believe -- >> that's like kathy griffin. even bill marr lost his job immediately after the comment he made it after 9/11 about the hijackers. it's not new and people do pay the price, so i'm not sure if there is a double standard. people are on twitter saying, why isn't this person getting fired after what he said about christian? i was thinking about that the other day. >> now, but i disagree with everybody here, i don't like this. the phrase unconscious bias training to me sounds very dangerous because it stipulates that you are unable to prove your own biases because it's unconscious. if you apply that to other arenas in your life like you are misogynist but you don't know it or you are proslavery and you don't know it, this is like one step away from minority report where people can actually change your mind and punish you for the thoughts that they think you have. but you don't actually have these thoughts. but they are saying you have these thoughts. this is a virtue signaling brought to you by fear. if the company doesn't throw tons of money to the unconscious bias corporate, whatever you call it, the protests will never cease. but the worst part about it is, i feel bad for the employees and the paris says because they are going to become amateur social workers. they are going to be the ones that are upfront. it's not the executives are the ones that are in hr, it's the guys upfront that is dealing with the homeless guy yelling. >> and everyone trying to film everything. >> in the social justice warriors will put it on twitter and you will lose your job. >> that's whyo o sd be onwitt. okay, "one more thing" is up next. ♪ u. fixing what went wrong. and ending product sales goals for branch bankers. so we can focus on your satisfaction. it's a new day at wells fargo. but it's a lot like our first day. wells fargo. established 1852. re-established 2018. why people everywhere are upgrading their water filter to zerowater. start with water that has a lot of dissolved solids. pour it through brita's two-stage filter. dissolved solids remain?
