For Hillary Clinton turned into a loss. President elect trump said he will represent them and all americans as he made an appeal for the country to unite. Now its time for america to bind the wounds of division. Have to get together. To all republicans and democrats and independents across this nation, i say, it is time for us to come together as one united people. I pledge to every citizen of our land that i will be president for all americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past of which there were a few people im reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can Work Together and unify our great country. No dream is too big. Know challenge is too great. Nothing we want for our future is beyond our reach. America will no longer settle for anything less than the best. Hillary clinton was gracious to mr. Trump ain her public concession speech. He offered these nice words about her as well. I just received a call from secretary clinton. She congratulated us its about us. On our victory. And i congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard fought campaign. Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time. And we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country. The president elect showing humility and graciousness in his acceptance, his speech last night, thanking the country saying its about us. A lot of people on both sides found this to be a very good speech, that it hit the right tone, it was encouraging and we found out that president obama phoned him as well. Before i jump into that, can i just say, something that was weighing on me all night. I honestly believe, and i think it would have been extraordinary to have a woman in the white house. I hope we have a woman in the white house in my lifetime. I think you will. I think we will have a woman in the white house in my lifetime. I think this election was about the establishment candidate versus an outsider. The good news was it was a movement that saw beyond gender, race and religion and elected the one that they wanted. Although, hillary wasnt victorious last night, i think history was made. That being said, im very proud of that man right there, my friend donald trump. Im proud of that victory speech. But im also proud to be american today. Getting to what you asked me about, that speech. I thought it was very nice. He came out and said lets unite this country. Some of the things that we talked about what he should do in the event he wins. And he did. Getting to were going to talk about how he won, what went down. Lets do this. Lets do a little bit on reaction to the speech and lets get into some of the background of it, what happened last night. Dana, you said you thought something he said was important there when he talked about reaching out and trying to work with others. Because he was the outsider candidate one of the things he was able to do is he took the democrats base, the White Working Class voter that had been with the democrats since the new deal and he put them into the republican column. That is a base widening big tent achievement that no other republican has been able to do. He was able to do that. He also got 90 of the republicans to vote for him. They came home for him in a big way the last two weeks. He knows he knows who they are. He has a list of them. There were many who were like im not going to get there. What i thought he when he said im reaching out to you in particular and im asking you to help me be as good a president as i can be. And i thought, wow, that is a president ial Pitch Perfect type of tone. Not just talking about all americans but in particular talking about people who are his agitators on his right. That was some of the advise you have given on previous shows. I dont think i was the only one. Its good advice. It worked well. Everyone seemed to like it. If you were going to poll test that although, it seems like it was something that worked for everyone. Thats canceled. Greg, what were your thoughts on the speech . First of all, who would have thought that hillarys first 3 00 a. M. Call would be to trump . Yep. I have to point out that she wouldnt show up last night i know people get upset when you bring this up. She wouldnt show up to comfort her supporters. She stayed home just like the democrats did. To me, i thought that was fitting. I dont think she needed all that time to prepare. I dont know. That bugged me. In general, donald trump i call him the first bs president because he called bs on every accepted liberal assumption. It was stuff that most that every previous candidate had to dance around. Whether its identity politics, antiamericanism, which is seen as a cool thing on campus, antilaw enforcement, Climate Change hysteria. Remember the time it was ramos questioning him on the use of anchor babies. Donald trump said, i dont care. Im still using it. That was like the end of a republican tendency to bow down to pc rhetoric and pc fear. I think tha talk about bashing the glass ceiling. He bashed the pc ceiling. Whats amazing is i dont think you can go back after that. I think now you can say things sometimes you shouldnt say things, but there are things you can now say that you can question the liberal assumptions that you couldnt question before. For that, we should all be grateful, including liberals. Yes. He created a safe questioning zone for you, greg. Now you can behave in the weird way you like with no problem. I was always this way. This went for a long time to figure out who was going to win. It was looking like this is going to go in his direction at a certain point. Some of your thoughts and feelings about this and about the speech in particular. I like the part of the speech where he talked about there will no longer be any forgotten men and women. I thought that was terrific. He seemed to suggest, he is all about unity and healing. I need unity and healing. I should have asked you for a resuscitation. Not only was it staying up late, it was that i was just i was depleted, discouraged by this result. Greg makes fun of it. But i think fear is very real in lots of communities about this guy. This guy is a bully. This guy juan, this is a mirror juan, this is a mirror feeling of how many people felt in 2008. People take these elections personally. When they looked at president obama winning they felt like, he is not my guy. The world is going to i remember in 92 i felt that way when bill clinton was elected. I thought the world was going to end. America is like children in a divorce. For eight years you go to your mother, which is the democrats. Then you get eight years with the republicans, which is your dad. Its this constant here is the thing. I like that dynamic. But look at what happened last night. The largest gender gap in american history. Men 53 to 41 voted for donald trump. Women 54 to 42 for Hillary Clinton. When you dig in, you see white men plus 32 for donald trump. Right . White women by the way also went for donald trump. Do you think theres a racial overcast to this vote . I think you are reckless in calling him racist. You dont know him. I dont know him. I have to read twitter. He says black people are the ones who kill white people. Thats your interpretation. What does he say about muslims . What does he say i think you gotta give him a chance. Latinos are rapists and thieves. He misspoke. He was talking about criminals being sent over. We regretted it, including me who called him on it. That was the first thing i called him on. I appreciate that. I appreciate eric eric has been right on this all along. A lot of people of color and minorities that are supporting him, even in florida, 45 of cuban americans came out to support him. Biggest surprise to me. This comes back to the gender gap thing we were talking about a moment ago. His hispanics, 30 support for trump. Exceeded what mitt romney did with hispanics. 30 asian support for trump. Exceeded what romney did. This comes back to what i was saying can i throw one more at you . I think this has to do with culture. I think in the cuban american community, they are not comfortable with a woman as a leader. One more that has to is now you have insulted all the cuban americans. Here is these numbers are staggering and stunning, the disparity between them. Exit polls. The most important issues facing the country, the economy, 52 . In second place, terrorism at 18 . Way below. Three times the number the economy over the second most. And then Foreign Policy 13 and immigration 13. The point is, trump was owning who is the right person to fix the economy. Because of his taxes. Thats consistent with the exit polls in the primaries as well. You have every right you have ever right today to lecture me. I want you to tell me what is donald trump what is Donald Trumps plan to help our economy or get my kid a job . Reduce corporate taxes. He never lays it out. Im not look, i just called it the way i saw it. Here is the one thing. Last night when every said, it looks like trump is going to win, New York Times says he has a 90plus chance of winning, the stock market was tanking. It went down 800 lower. Until this morning. You know what happened today . People realize lowering corporate taxing is an incentive. Job stimulator. To hire more. The economy will be better off under trumps tax plan than obamas or future Hillary Clintons tax plan. Im also really happy about the Climate Change treaty and the climate agenda in general. Not that it goes away, because im not a hoaxster. It needs to be slowed. Leo decap rio can no longer be the setting of energy. He cannot have influence over the white house. Hillary clinton on the trail said she wanted to put the coal miners out of business. They heard that. When i was talking about the White Working Class that had been the democratic base, now they are in the republican tent with donald trump. I think he will be able to hold them if he can advance policies that will help them get some energy flowing again. I dont know if the coal jobs are going to come back right away. What i will say is, the bureaucracy is lying in wait. I know this especially to be true at department of energy and the epa and the state department. They work on climate treaties. This is an industry for these groups. They have meetings to plan meetings to plan meetings. You can go to a Climate Conference every week as a part of the government. The bureaucracy will try so hard to slow everything down. They will say they will wait him out. Every day they will have to deal with times in the New York Times. I worked on environmental quality. Every day we were dealing with that. Its so counter to what accepted wisdom is. I do think theres a responsible way to deal with Climate Change and a more reasonable approach. You said you dont know if they will bring back coal jobs. I dont see how that happens. Thats why i was asking about economic clean coal. Theres a way do it . Clean coal. Technologies are advancing. America is the place to do innovation. If you look what happened in new delhi this week its not about Climate Change so much there. Its smog. Its the particles that are being burned because of coal. New clean coal technology, that kind of thing happens in america. Thats capping trade. No. Theres two ways of going about cleaning the environment. Theres the penalizing way. If you emit, you are penalized. Sometimes you have to shut down factories. Or the incentivized way. You turned d eed dirty coal int clean. Far more business friendly. The bureaucracy is they will deal with it and have political appointees that are in there to advance Donald Trumps agenda. My feeling about this is when you look, a lot of that populist energy is the Bernie Sanders crowd. But its now over on the republican side. Maybe they can find a home. I worry again. It seems to me the guy who is the chief birther is now not to take anything away. Obviously, Hillary Clinton worked hard. It was great to have a woman run and get the nomination. It did inspire a lot of women. Congratulations to her and her supporters. They are hurting now. Lets try to do the bigger thing which is to unite the country. He worked very hard and went against some of the top best and brightest political opponents in the country that ran against him. And he beat them all fair and square. The people came out to support him. Those same people came out to support him. I want to say one thing that i had wrong since about may when he wrapped up the nomination. On that podcast i do i said, i can see a scenario where donald trump wins the popular vote but loses in the Electoral College. The reverse was true. He won in the Electoral College, which is why the Founding Fathers were so smart. Says a republican after two populist victories for republicans in the when you are born in wyoming, and you understand states rights from that perspective, the Electoral College is very important. Suddenly the Republican Party is not a party about fighting trade and the like. Its a populist party. This isnt this isnt your fathers Republican Party. It sure isnt that. Its evolution over time into what it has become. Think about that. We have elected a guy who is as likely to fight with paul ryan as he is with nancy pelosi or Mitch Mcconnell as he is to fight with chuck schumer. He is an issue guy. If you sign on to the issues he represents, you voted. If the only issue is change, drain the swamp, antiestablishment, then there you have him. The other side to it is, hes a deal maker. Which makes him a mpragmatist. He could make deals with pelosi. His mind might be changed if he gets a better deal. One interesting thing that happened that tells you about this change, a yale professor made his mid term optional for students who were distraught about a trump win. Doesnt that just say it all . Its incredible. The segment of the population who required around the clock coddling are now faced with another segment telling you, we have had enough. I think thats a big change. What do they call them . They are called snow something . Snowflakes. A version of that. These students so distraught that they had to take off class, university of michigan, across the country. They would never do that for a democrat. Quick, quick. Obama, you would get a holiday. I wanted to mention something on deal making that i think has been a problem for republicans in the last maybe 12 years. That is that coming to the table to have a discussion and a compromise has often been seen as even a traitorous act even getting to the table. A lot of that has been driven by some in the media. Donald trump is going to come to the table. The trump table. As president elect and as president. He is not afraid to make a deal. At this point the republicans will be able to say, all right, you can give a little to get a little. That will be much different than it has been in the last eight to 12 years. Last night, president elect trump congratulated Hillary Clinton on a hard fought campaign. She called him to congratulate him on his win but didnt concede until 11 30 this morning. The secretary is gracious. She addressed an audience full of emotional supporters and got a little emotional herself at times while encouraging the nation to unite around her opponent. This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for. And im sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share. Our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But i still believe in america, and i always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead. Let us have faith in each other. Let us not grow weary. Let us not lose heart. For there are more seasons to come. That was a beautiful speech today, juan. I mean, i listed eened to that was thinking, where was that Hillary Clinton . She was human. Relatable. It was unbelievable. She didnt exemplify any of that on the campaign trail. You guys didnt see it. I see it more. Ive dealt with her. I wrote a piece on this topic for foxnews. Com saying i hope her legacy is not one of the disappointment i feel today, the bitterness that some of her supporters feel but instead more in line with what she talked about. I thought she did a wonderful job. By the way, i thought trump did a nice job last night in his speech. He did. President obama also this afternoon thats coming up. We will get to that in a second. We have a friend who said it went from a wedding to a funeral at the Clinton Campaign headquarters laugh night. Do you think she should have come out at said thank you to those people last night . Yes. I have so many friends that were really passionate and excited about her candidacy and about her presidency. You saw the looks on the faces of her supporters just waiting. I think if trump did that, there would be a bunch of criticism. If she was the president and trump didnt come out and left those people there, i think the class act thing to do is to try and pull it together, as tough as it was, and go out there and say something. If you wanted to have expanded remarks to do so. People put everything on the kline. S she had a huge ground operation. People canvassing all over the place, targeting where they should be going, knocking on doors. They devoted them services and the their lives. You could see the emotion from those people. There was no Barbara Streisand or miley cyrus. How do you think they handled it . I wish the democrats had come out and conceded last night, even though it was 4 00 in the morning. I think that that would have been good. This is the third time in a row that the democrats have not conceded to the republicans on night they won. In 2000 gore pulled his back because they had the recount in florida. In 2004 john kerry held out. We gathered around 1 30, 2 00 n the morning. Secretary don evans comes to the stage and says, sorry, everybody, but were going to everything is fine. But were not going to do this tonight. Go home. Get a night sleep. We came back at 10 00 in the morning. President bush never got to celebrate on his night. I thought it was right that trump waited for her concession call and then went there. I do think its amazing that the Obama Coalition absolutely deserted Hillary Clinton. She underperformed her margins in almost every category, in particular in iowa. I heard the Trump Campaign was surprised by that, because in their modelling, they thought she was going to hit the targets in iowa. When they realized she had not, they knew they were on their way. And im looking forward to doing everything that i can to make sure that the next president is successful in that. Why did he suddenly hear that we all want the country to do well and go forward last night but for last year and a half is now were all one happy family. I will say though, that was the best speech he has given in a long time. He reminded people that politics are a part of life. They arent life. That was important to hear. All this worry about polarization is because finally the right showed up. It used to be when the left were jerks to everybody, no one talked about polarization. Theres some young people that might be feeling like what juan is feeling. I think over the next six weeks, he can try to alleviate some of that. He asked for their support. He didnt call latinos rapists and thieves . He called criminals that have i know because i dealt with it as a prosecutor. People that come back and forth. Mexicans and here is the bigger point. Mexico is sending rapists. I dont think anybody can defend this. To get to the larger point, the culture theres a culture war. Its more political. I think the people who supported trump have a separate culture from the people on the coast who still supported hillary, which is why she won the popular and they listen to the same music and the artists mock those people. Angela merkel, interesting if you follow World Politics and the global economy, for her to say, i think we can work with donald trump, thats a very, very positive sign. You want the European Community part of ours. There was a lot of consensus like that. In terms of World Leaders and yet netanyahu was gracious. He has been invited to come to washington. Lets get things done. This is wonderful. For the people out there sitting at home that feel like someone heard their voice, the families, working men and women out there that want to see a change, that want the corruption in dc, business as usual to end. Their tax dollars are put in the right place, that they feel optimistic about the future for jobs, for the economy, for National Security and our place in the world and especially for the veterans, that they will be taken care of and their medical and health needs as well. I feel optimistic for the country. I hope everybody does try to come together. Im encouraged by what i heard from president obama and Hillary Clinton and again congratulations to her and to her supporters. Are we going to build a wall . Just around you. Together.
