People. Theres a decline in the marriage rate in america, especially among millennial who is are waiting longer and longer to wed. A new study found theres the least religious generation in 60 years so they are turning away from faith, too. The state of moral values in the country is getting worse. So is there a way to stop the contagion of the me myself and i mindset . And kimberly im mindful that were sitting here on television where we spend time talking about ourselves. Do you think things are worst today than in the past . Well theres new, you know challenges that have emerged through the age of technology right . Because now its the life of selfies and instagram and snapchat and things of that nature. So there is more emphasis and focus on that. So of course then it becomes more about the individual instead of the collective or the outer community. So i think you really have to work hard to do that. If youre somebody that grew up back in the day like i did, you have a different upbringing and idea about things versus someone coming of age now with all of the devices which makes you more inwardly focused. On Religion Church others youre not focused on that. Eric your son is 16 17. Do you notice a difference or are you worried or do you think theres a lot of promise there . You say that he and his friends, they are kindhearted and driven but maybe distracted by the electronics . They are cardinal nolan is right about that. They are involved in themselves. I tell you, they cant take ten steps without taking a selfie this is where i am look what im eating and look who im with. Does that translate into Church Attendance . Does that translate into religiocity. I go to church every day. I dont require my son to go to church. Frankly, he doesnt go to church on the weekends. A couple months we were in mexico on easter sunday. Im there at church and what does he do he pulled up next to me and sat down for 1 15 and paid attention. He felt good about it. I dont force it on him. I dont know if parents should be forcing it on them or not but i will tell you there is a need that satisfies. Theres an innate a natural need a hunger for spirituality whether its god or other things that satisfies when a kid spent time in church or worshipping something. Greg i wanted to ask you, you dont have to be religious to live a moral life. Of course. No. Are kids unable to learn moral like from an ipad . Well Cardinal Dolan is right and wrong. It is not excessive individualism that is a problem. It is actually the opposite. I would rather have individuals than isis. Thats a group. Were plagued by people who are seeking a collective identity through various, various ways. Maybe its driven by envy maybe driven by extreme religious belief. But its a great thing. Its what makes america great. Hes confusing strength with self selfishness. Were surrounded because of our mass media and because of the displays of wealth luck reexury and fame. People are feeling more relevant and they have a mistaken belief that people are more successful than they are. They seek relevance in groups the mob. This is why you see mob rule on the internet and twitter. People are seeking ways to strike out at other people as a way to validate their own political, spiritual beliefs, ideology and identity are now the Political Team sport. The disintegration of family has left a vacuum that could be filled by anything. The weird thing about isis is it is being filled by religion. Its a terrorist belief but its basically saying that we reject casual religion. We leave our mosques because your mosques are too liberal for us. So thats a frightening thing. Going after excessive individual individuality is the wrong thing. Its individuals who make this place special and they are the ones who rise up against the mob and change the world. Juan thats interesting. You study a lot in terms of education in america and young people and the friends there. Do you see this as a problem . I think it is a problem to this extent that when you see people set a drift, dana when they dont have structures then when trouble comes, when there is difficulty they lash out. So greg i was real interested in what greg said. You always think that everybody is so much better off than i am and everybody else is being left behind and then when they get angry and act in ways that are totally antisocial. The way i look at it is Something Like the music today and i find the music, again, so selfcentered. You know it used to be love songs. Aww. I tell people this. Anyway now its i got this girl and i did this to this girl. Im going to stop. Yep. And i find that a little bit much. You know what songs are they going to listen to as they age . Love songs dont exist. And then the other thing is the older generation had john wayne and he wasnt individual in the greg gutfeld he was an individual who would stand up and say, thats wrong, to the bad guy. So today we go from john wayne and Clint Eastwood and today it looks more like friends where everybody comes together and this is my friend these folks at this table, this is my gang and we are going to hang out and we are a good gang. But it does mean that you are taken away from family because family oftentimes especially for this Younger Generation doesnt exist, and then they somehow dont turn ornn the church. I dont know how id get through life without some substance. I agree with you. When eric left that day, you could see it. He had something and i literally said to him, you need to do this. You should do this more. Im not going to make you do this. Attend church. And you could see that there was a recognition there, like there is something there. I think a lot of the Younger Generation doesnt believe theres something there. All they can do is try it. There is one institution where you actually see public displays of faith over and over again and the young people watching it and that is with sports whether its the olympics or football teams, basketball teams and in sports its still acceptable to publicly profess your faith. Yeah you see that. Yeah in the nfl games. You see it even on College Campuses and then the detractors who come in and say, oh we dont want you to do this. Its offensive that youre saying the lords prayer with your coach before a game. That really bugs me. Theres one in ohio recently that was happening this week. Let me go over to something else. Greg i want to go to you about this. I thought of you when i wrote this. 55 scholars have written to the College Board about what they say is a sad state of the a. P. History exam advanced placement history exam. This is what they said. The new version of the test will effectively marginalize important ways of teaching about the american past and force american high schools to each u. S. History from a perspective that selfconsciously seeks to decenter American History and subordinate it to a global and heavily socialscientific perspective. American history was made by bad men and we must rectify those sins. In my opinion, were about 80 through the great leftward leaning. And the question is whether we let it all collapse. We have war in our absence, we have history beingand we demonize the isis while we struggle to identify what a terrorist is. We are heading towards everything that a radical progressive would want and at this point we have to decide whether were willing to reverse it or start over. I think its a way to take away your heroes right . Dont think of Thomas Jefferson as an individual, as somebody you aspire to be like because they want to basically rewrite. Rewrite the history. In a way, that fits the narrative that the left has been pushing and bringing. Quick anecdotal piece, last week middle of last week someone tweeted me a High School Junior from pennsylvania tweeted me and shes like, look at this. This is audio of a teacher teaching in a class and it was Russell Brand trashing my stance on capitalism. And i contacted the principal and said do you realize one of your sociology teachers is doing this . He said give us a day or two. He said yeah were okay with it. I said do you understand what a socialist commi and you and your 16yearold are you should have been reported that. It is recorded but i think the student doesnt want to be outed about who he or she is. But its going to get bigger and talked about more. But the point is they are okay with teaching tools like Russell Brand trashing capitalism trashing people who are free market putting that bias spin in the classroom in 16yearolds. I dont think what the scholars are saying is that you want to replace one set of you know kind of liberal thinking with conservative thinking. No. I think what they want to do is get back to founding principals like limited government. I think they want to get back to the idea of individual liberty, equality under law for all. Thats what drives america. And we try to reinvent america all the time. I think thats good. But the problem with this is they are moving away from it and its about identity politics. Do that in sociology, not in history. Right. And for all of those people upset about common core a. P. Exams are where you should direct some of that. You know what is funny . Theres simple but you get College Credits though. Like the leftward leaning, the a. P. Exam leads you right into a great freshman year. You know action actually creates character. Often we think that character causes action. But theres something to be said about basic managers that manners is in its own way, you dont desire to do whatever you want and it unifies you in a community by actually saying i will do this. I will express myself with good manners. That is the thing that is lost and that used to hold communities together and its much like patriotism seemed as quaint or perhaps irrelevant. They always joke in the black community, it used to be if you misbehave, the neighbor would smack you on the butt. Now, its like you dont touch my child. Theres nobody to give structure to that child. I try. Rt willall right, a terror scare in boston. What they were allegedly plotting. Thats coming up next on the five. K of when you think of the United StatesPostal Service . Exactly. Thats what pushes us to deliver smarter simpler faster sleeker earlier fresher harder farther quicker and yeah even on sundays. Whats next . Well show you. piano music fresher dentures, for the best first impression. Love loud, live loud polident. Fresher dentures. For those breathless moments. Hug loud, live loud, polident. An isisstyle plot against Law Enforcement appears to have been foiled in boston and may have included a plan to behead please. One suspect in custody. Another dead. 26yearold aama rahim is killed after he launched at the joint Terrorism Task force with a knife as they approached to question him. Our officers went out there only to question the individual because the level of our concern rose to the level that we needed to question him. I think we never anticipated what his reaction would be and that he would pull out, obviously, a military knife. In fact at some point when the suspect gets close enough to cause imminent harm to the officer, the officer discharged his weapon. Rahims brother disputes that claim, saying he was shot in the back. But civil rights activists are backing up the police after they were shown the video today. What the video does reveal to us very clearly is that the individual was not on the cell phone, the individual was not shot in the back and that the information that was reported by others is inaccurate. I was 150 collaborate with what the commissioner just stated. Okay. So this is a unique kind of turn of events. Civil rights leaders coming out because they were afforded an opportunity to come and calm and private and review the evidence. Novel approach. Dana what do you think . I thought it was very smart how they handled that and i commend the civil rights leaders for coming out and immediately saying that because it could stop all of the fearmongering or any other problems. Interesting, weve been saying for the last month, james comey has said that he has open cases of possible terrorist activity in all 50 states. That includes rhode island. Thats not necessarily a place where you think there would be hot bed terrorist activities. That means our Police Forces and Intelligence Community has to be able to communicate with one another, share their information and intelligence and be able to act, like in this case might have been sooner than they wanted because i think they were trailing him and trying to get other information. I absolutely commend them. Im glad it turned out this way. And from a communications perspective, that was good to have them get out in front of the microphone use their voice and connect to people to quell anything that might have taken place. Are you having a physical condition or what was i doing . I was just thinking deeply about this. I was thinking about how cnn described this as the third time this year that the Boston Police were involved in shooting a suspect. So the lesson in media, if you remove the context cops kill a terrorist and then its just another policeinvolved shooting which makes for a trend piece. Thats how you report it. Interesting thing, we should always be reminded cops are always the first to be the target because they are the barrier between the barbarians and us. This isnt a game of whackamole. The only people who know how to do that know how to do that. If youre ignorant of that process, you should shut up. Glad you got that off your chest. All right. The interesting thing about usaama i talked about this on facebook i think they picked up a mr. Wright and a third unnamed name. You have been looking for him for some time kimberly. Email me. Never mind. Wrong spelling. Theres also a link with this. I see that usaama rahim worshipped at the Islamic Culture center of boston and i looked back and, sure enough thats where Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a member of that same Cultural Center and the founder of that Cultural Center is is under investigation . No hes behind bars for 23 years for terrorism plot and money land derundering. So this guy was clearly out in the open. It wasnt hard to find this guy. Had he a lot of ties. A lot of ties to terrorists. This wasnt one of those things that was very difficult to find. Great job. But the scary part is targeting cops . What is going on in america where cops are constantly being targeted right now . Its disgusting and despicable and scary. And the intelligence reports that they have was the intent to behead police officers. In the instance where he was shot what happened was the police theyve been talking right. Theyve been watching him for 18 months. What greg was talking about, they shot three people and thats why the whole tenor are you shooting at people too frequently. This is a very separate case. I dont think it should be lumped with the other cases, was your point. But Michael Mccaul head of Homeland Security in the house, said this guy was communicating with isis. That takes it to a different level, in my mind. This is not just some renegade guy who is just a bad guy and starting to act crazy. This was a guy who was tied in to what dana is talking about, this national thing. And the way this takes us back to the first segment. These are people who, i think, couldnt even get along with people in his own mosque. He thought that mosque was too weak in his message. Too liberal. Icing on the cake. Youre too much. And then he goes pretty good. And then does he not only start to communicate with isis but he starts to plot and have his moment of martyrism. He set himself up. And theres a digital call to arms. Theres something happening that we cant see that the police have to have some sort of tool to be able to track what is happening online because thats how isis is we have got to give our Law Enforcement everything that they need to be able to fight back. Absolutely right. Next who would you cast to play homicidal man jack Charles Manson. We have that coming up. Here at td ameritrade, they love innovating. And apparently, they also love stickers. Whats up with these things, victor . We decided to give ourselves stickers for each feature we release. We read about 10,000 suggestions a week to create features that as traders wed want to use, like social signals, a tool that uses social media to help with research. 10,000 suggestions. Who reads all those . He does. For all the confidence you need. Td ameritrade. You got this. A new show called aquarius uses Charles Manson. Its pretty adorable. How you doing . Well i havent heard my mom call me baby girl for almost five days. Great. Charlie said some day hes going to be more famous than the beatles. So true. So they cast a hairier version of Justice Bieber to play a heinous mass murderer. But imagine if the show runners ran the history channel. George clooney would play hitler. Clive owen would play stalin. But why even limit yourself to age or gender . Jennifer lawrence could make a great mo and why cant kimberly play the 1906 earthquake . She does make the earth move. This reminds me of the boston bomber cover, the desire to recast evil as hot is how evil thrives. Manson was a symbol of the 1960s in that he sold it as free love. Manson wasnt good looking or charismatic. He was about rebelling against a generation whose hard work and sacrifice made such rebellion possible. The entire bad boy appeal is a lie. For it boils down to one essential fact. We glorify those who wish to destroy us. Revolutionaries are often just killers, something to be reminded of every time you see a clown in a chase shirt. Kimberly youre single. You like the bad guys. Okay. If i saw someone in a chaser id run in the other direction. Why do the bad guys have to be so cute . Do tvs no were not going to watch ugly people . Well of course they want to romantacize the notion of it
