Transcripts For FOXNEWSW The Daily Briefing With Dana Perino 20180920
The deadline is at 10 00 a. M. Tomorrow, set by judiciary chairman
Chuck Grassley
who says he wants her prepared remarks and herb bio if she tends to show up with a hearing on monday. Democrats on the
Committee Like
chris say she should not be rushed. I think that chairman grassley says to schedule a hearing for a week a without asking or ascertaining whether she was available, and has been insisting on
Going Forward
without entreating seriously her request to have the fbi conduct an expanded background investigation. That shows that hes not really interested in hearing her allegations. I asked the senator after that comment if he expects the hearing will happen on monday. He says hes not sure. But he is preparing with his staff in case she decides to show up, dana. Dana what a rehearing from the republican side at this stage . A lot of frustration from judiciary chairman
Chuck Grassley
. He still wants to see professor fords original letter. He still has not gotten it from
Ranking Member
Dianne Feinstein
. Other republicans say they hope she shows up to testify, but it if not, they have to go forward with information they have. I encourage, and i wanted the committee under senator grassley, to provide her an opportunity in a forum she was comfortable into sort of chauvinist information. She has been given that opportunity, is my understanding. Either do it publicly, or privately. Ultimately, if that doesnt happen, number one, she should be criticized for not doing it. The uncertainty is causing tension to build here on capitol hill, since professor fords attorney has not officially said no. Deanna . Dana mike, thank you. As the latest drama plays out in washington, the spokesman for the
Senate Judiciary
Committee Says
that democrats are eccentrically bystanders in ine process. They have not participated in this. As i said, theres a lot of transparent process so far. They are moving swiftly under chairman grassley to investigate allegations. We would like to give doctor for the opportunity to share these allegations further with the committee. Judge kavanaugh an opportunity to clear his name. Randall is a former counsel to the judiciary committee. Thank you for joining me. How do you think they have handled things so far . I think they have tried to be very open and forthright. I commend senator grassley. Dana listen to judge napolitano and what he said earlier about what they should do to compel the witnesses show up on monday. Watch. I have a suggestion, if i made. For senator grassley and company. Subpoena her. Whoa. She decided to go to the press. If they subpoena dr. Ford, if they subpoena the therapist notes, if they subpoena dr. Ft. s husband, who according to her, was there when this incident was recounted, then they cant interrogate. Dana what you think about that idea . I dont think i would compel somebody to testify, particularly in such an insensitive a sensitive matter. It ought to be her opportunity to do so, and to make clear her allegations. I am uncomfortable with the idea of subpoenaing somebody. Dana senator grassley sent a letter to senator feinstein. Especially for your working on capitol hill, read it. Its a good way to write a letter. One of it says the fbi does not make a credibility assessment of any information it receives. With respect to a company, nor should you investigate something simply because it committee deems it important. The constitution assigns the senate, and only the senate, with the task of advising the president on his nominee. Post quote can you talk to us a little bit about this idea about the fbi investigating in the background check, and maybe even how it compared to 1991 during the
Clarence Thomas
hearing . Yes, i sure can. In the first place, there is no federal crime, here. So im not sure why the fbi would be involved at all. This is the senates duty, and i think the senate is doing its best to undertake that any professional manner. As for the opportunity that dr. Ford has succumbed, is open to her. I think it improve the whole process of she would participate. Dana what you fig about the relations, perhaps, between senator feinstein and senator grassley at this point . The two of them seem to get along fairly well statesman there in the senate. But, senator feinstein kept this letter from senator grassley. She has had it since july, and sprung it on last friday. As mike emanuel just reported, he still has not seen the original letter. I have watched this process deteriorate over several decades. I participated, as you know, in the bork matters and the rehnquist matters. It has been very upsetting to see that there is not the traditional civility that ought to govern our
Public Affairs
in this dimension. We are talking about a
Supreme Court
justice. That whole preceding ought to be dealt with openly. There shouldnt be an aura of dirty tricks, of keeping things away from people. Springing them at the last minute. That is not the way this kind of orderly procedure should occur. Dana may be a last question to you. If the accuser,
Christine Blasey
ford, decides not to come and testify on monday, either a close or open setting, to think that judge kavanaugh should sit down and take questions in an open setting . Or do you think that the senators should just go forward and call the vote . Yes, i think he should sit down and answer questions about what we know. It will be, sadly, a 1cited proceeding. Theres one other thing that comes to mind. At the time of the ginsberg nomination, do you remember, that went wrong because he had smoked marijuana . After being a professor at harvard . The committee reached an understanding that things that happened after you became a lawyer, after you graduated from law school, those would be fair game. But things that happened in your use, and particularly a long time ago, were things that the committee would not consider. That was the understanding after the ginsberg affair. Many judges dana i think that now that this is an accusation of attempted rape, and not smoking marijuana, which is legal there is clearly a distinction. You cant belittle it. Dana if you are accused of rape, the accusation should be forthcoming and he should have a chance to defend yourself as
Brett Kavanaugh
says he wants to do. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. Dana fox news alert, at least three people are dead after a shooter open fired at a

This vehicle has already saved hundreds of people. It is really sick, about 20 tons, and it is so high up that it has really helped a lot of people. Earlier today, we were just on an air boat with one of the sheriffs that was doing some of the rescue. It was a voluntary

We are already talking a week after the storm, and this is the type of flooding we are seeing because of those overflowed rivers. This river isnt expected to crest until friday. We are talking about the record here of 17. 9 feet above the flood line, well, this storm and this flooding is already expected to reach them 22 even 24 feet this weekends above the flood line. That is why we are seeing people, the sheriffs want people to understand that just because its on the outside, the danger is still not over. They expect a rash of rescues, unfortunately, tomorrow into saturday. We spoke to the deputy who was with us. Listen to what he had to say. Our whole office has been in rescue mode for days now, and not just this boat, but so many of the resources are here helping us get people out of the water. We have seen flooding like this, back in 99 with floyd, but not to this magnitude. This is much worse than floyd. Much worse than hurricane floyd back in 1999. joins me know. Thats a big campaign. How big do you think the problem is caused mark its very big. We have data now come early data that shows that the rate of use is increasing very sharply. When we look at data between 2017 to what we have now, which is 2018 on how many kids are using this, we are showing a steep increase in the number of teens and middle schoolers that are using vaping products. Dana do you think thats because the companies are marketing them directly to teens . We have seen some advertising, historical advertising in social media, that looks like it was directed toward younger people. I think right now we are not a finding that as much in the market place, although there is still some advertising that seems to be suggesting that its targeted toward young people. I think the bigger issue is this has become sort of a fashionable item among teens. The problem is its an addictive product. Nicotine is inherently addictive, so what is in vogue right now, a lot of teens are using, is something that they will develop a longterm addiction to. Dana i do respond to people who say there could be a backlash and the other direction . Let me reach you in

Let me reach you in
Orange County register editorial for monday saying that they bring so popular and significant part because it prevents a much lower health risk profile than cigarette smoking or other productions products. Cursing the business is not going to set a
Countercultural Movement that will catch on. I read another one, that if they try to regulate fibbing, it will drive teens back to cigarettes. I have heard that argument. The rate of use we are seeing right now is very high paid all the metrics are going in the wrong direction, including the use of combustible products among teens. We have long recognized that we think these vaping products might present a viable alternative to adults who want to go away from tobacco to something that doesnt have all the risks. These are less risky than a traditional cigarette, but they still have risks associated with them. That said, would have a very
High Percentage of teens now using these products, some proportion of those teens are going to become addicted to nicotine and some will migrate onto cigarettes. When we look at this from a net
Health Public benefit, which is how we have to legally evaluate these products, if you have a bunch of kids using them, the benefit tips the balance against having these products on the market in the way they are right now. In order to close the onramp to kids, we are probably going to have to take steps to narrow the offer and for adults for the use of the same products. Dana everybody sang a lot of attention, a lot of coverage. I wanted to ask you about opioid addiction, the last time we were here we talked about that. End of the
Trip Administration is determined to try and figure out some way to try and help people out there. The senate has passed legislation. I wonder from the fdas perspective, what can you point to that is really helping . I was curious in particular about, i think you called them mats . The ones that help people try and get off their addictions. People who have an addiction, some of those are replacing therapies so they help treat patients who are addicted to opioids to treat some of the symptoms of withdrawal. These are effective, particularly in conjunction with psychosocial support. We have tried to open up new opportunities to get more of these products on the market, and also just some of the stigma associated with these products. There is reluctant sometimes to prescribe them, because it seen as her placing one addiction for another, particularly when youre using something opioidlike tilt treat somebody with an opiate addiction prayed we know they are very successful at treating certain patients. We want to address the stigma associated with using these products. Speed dana i know there are people who are very concernd with the low rate of actual opiate prescript and because of the epidemic and some people are abusing them, and they are concerned that people who actually need the drugs are given to be able to get them. At the same time, the sentinel, and the imparting of it from china or mexico or wherever its coming from, is whats really been deadly. We need to balance these concerns, with chronic pain conditions to whom opioids are the only drugs are going to wor work. Cancer pain, other kinds of conditions, and we still see too much dispensing of opioids, particularly prescriptions that are written for durations of use that are too long for the medical purpose in which the drugs being prescribed in the first place. Were trying to work on guidelines to positions not just to try and reduce prescribing, to rationalize it, but make sure that if they dispense that they do it in the appropriate number of pills for the condition. A 30 day supply for a lever scopic appendectomy, or tooth extraction, thats not necessary. Those of the kind of things we want to address. Dana let me ask you about this, and the commercial break he told me that the fda regulates 20 of the economy. We all know the economy is doing extremely well right now, but another issue on top of peoples minds is the cost of drugs in the united states. I think we have a list that shows just how the cost for drugs per capita, prescription drugs, goes up a little bit every year. 2016 is the last numbers that we have. Are there measures of the
Trump Administration is taking and that will see some disk so mike decreases . A lot of measures. If you look at inflation and prescription drugs this year, it has actually been below the rate of inflation for the first time in many years. We are trying to bring more competition to the markets, not just more generics, but also more branded drugs that are alternatives to existing drugs. So if you have a branded drug in the market, you dont just have one version of it. You have two or threes they can be price competition. The secretary is also taking a lot of steps to bring more price competition to the market, to change the way the
Market Structure works, see a more competition between drugs. Im trying to bring product competition, more products that can create competition, a new string to restructure certain aspects of how drugs are paid for to bring price competition into the market. Its having an impact, we are starting to see results. Dana certainly people will be looking for that. Thank you. Scott gottlieb, we appreciate it. A red state democrats, in a tight election reelection, excuse me. Makes a big decision on
Brett Kavanaughs nomination. We would tell you about that. Plus, stocks are skyrocketing as a key at economic number of jobs to its lowest level since the beatles topped the charts back in the 60s. As one of the nations largest investors in infrastructure, we dont just help power the american dream, were part of it. This is our era. This is
Americas Energy era. Nextera energy. We are the tv doctors of america, and we may not know much about medicine, but we know a lot about drama. We also know that you can avoid drama by getting an annual checkup. So go, know, and take control of your health. It could save your life. Cigna. Together, all the way. Dana demonstrators on capitol hill right there protesting
Brett Kavanaughs nomination to the
Supreme Court asthma
Claire Mccaskill is a vulnerable ritzy democrat, and she nods that she will vote no on cavanaugh while she says the allegations are troubling, they deserve a thorough and fair examination by the judiciary committee, decision is not based on those allegations but rather his positions on several key issues, most portly, the avalanche of dark and ominous money that is crushing our democracy. Joining me now is the chairman of the american conservative unit, and michael yoon, president and ceo of square communications. Perhaps
Claire Mccaskill was never going to vote for
Brett Kavanaugh, but i want to read you one other thing a gear thoughts on it. Silber edison, who is running for the senate in tennessee, he was governor there, hes neck and neck fair with the marsha. He said if afford, the accuser, decided at this point not to do something, i guess the committee has to go ahead and say, well, we relit it to mike willing to listen, but shes not willing to talk, we need to go forward. So the politics of this are weighing heavily prelimit go to first about her decision. Do you think this will fire up but the micro publicans in missouri to vote for holly . Absently. They have really blown this in every conceivable way. If democrats who would not meet with
Brett Kavanaugh. You have democrats, the democratic party, cordoning with a friend is on to try and disrupt the hearing with some 600 folks getting arrested, just during the hearing. You have people that are literally unwilling to shake
Brett Kavanaughs hand. We have lost decorum in the senate. I think this all looks like politics, because unfortunately, for many on the left,
Brett Kavanaugh is no longer an american who deserves respect. He is the personification of the fight of blue versus red. Of left versus right. That is not with the role of the
Supreme Court is. I think
Claire Mccaskill is making as her pelican, im glad shes doing it this way, because i think josh hawleys were to beat her over the head for this vote from now until election day. But as an american, i wish he could rise above partisan politics. Dana michael coming our publicans leading a strong . Its not surprise the limit of the senate will be determining the fate of kavanaugh, both on the republican and the democratic side. The question is, if this woman wants to come forward and has not, and the affair could talk to her, why dont you let them talk to her and get to the truth customer gets a lifetime appointment. Another week or two of a vote is not going to set anybody back. You and i both have been through topsecret cicada clearances. The fbi is really good at this. They are very professional, very thorough, and can be very quick. I dont understand why he dont let the fbi all three of us have been through the fbi process, and brett has been through it six times over half of his life. The only reason why the allegation is coming now is because he is at the tippy top of the most common dell not controversial political decision the country makes. For that, he is the victim here. Is a lifetime appointment. For liberals and conservatives. Dana none of us, the three of us, we might have gone through topsecret security confirmations, but none of us have ever been accused of attempted rate. Being forced into a situation where you are eager to clear your name, and to testify, but you at this point michael, is
Brett Kavanaugh basically bossing against the ghost customer because she doesnt show up, what is he supposed to do . I think the president should ask for the fbi to look into this. I love the fact to be what they are. Get to the truth. It doesnt cost us any more time. Look at, the
Supreme Court functioned just fine with eight justices for the entire year that
Merrick Garland never made it through. It can make wait two more week. Dana let me ask you this, matt whats of the present do that. If we set fbi, go up in his back or take if i that we can precome back to us and we will make a determination. The determination from the white house alleges your committee is that theres nothing there. Do you think that would satisfy the democrats . Of course not, because this is nothing to do with the fbi. The fbi has done a background check, and as all the snow they talk to everybody in every aspect of your life. They deal with every part. Let me finish. Thats not true. You dont know who they talk to you, michael. Neither do you. You dont know. They dealt through every part of your personal life, and everybody whos in the business of legal prosecution knows that this is a police matter. This is for the local police. Heres the problem, after 36 years, they are going to talk to dr. Ford, who seems unwilling to talk to anyone. Theyre going to talk to
Brett Kavanaugh, and there is the third person involved who denies that this happened. We are going to learn nothing from this process. What we know today is what we know. Which is,
Brett Kavanaughs character is on display, and on trial. I know him, and he should pass that test. Dana let me ask you this, michael. We dont have a determination yet if she is going to come to the hearing and testify, closed or open hearing, but then recently they put out a little catnip and said she hasnt said shes not going to come, of the deadline is tomorrow morning. To think its better for the democrats to actually have her come and testify, or do they prefer to have this as an issue and try and run on it . The job of senators to provide advice and consent, many senators take the position that we should get to the truthful part of the accusation and not have it be part of some circus. I totally understand why professor ford, whose life has been threatened, who has such a move for family offer house, who had to get a
Security Force because she is raising an allegation, my not being a big hurry to come over to washington, d. C. , and be part of a circus. Dana im just curious if the democrats are understanding that they are the ones who had all the information and her name. The republicans didnt even know about this, so the fact that she is getting attacked now which is terrible and i wish it wouldnt happen, and i know it happens that anybody who lifts their head up and is in the public eye but of the democrats deserve some blame, here . I dont want to prejudge anything im not a senator have a sealed information. But i think its fair to get to the bottom of this. I dont think it takes much more than a week or two. Dana one last request mark weaker to get to something because theres no physical evidence to get. That happened 36 years ago, if happen at all. The party have been 36 years ago. Ethene of the day, they have to determine whether or not they are for
Brett Kavanaugh. Unfortunately, for democrats who refuse to shake his hand or meet with him wherever he read his opinions, its all about politics. I think the american see this as an unfair process,
Brett Kavanaugh is going to get him for, and i hope we can shut the book on this for a long time. Dana but you might not know is theyre probably going to go to lunch now and have a good time and a conversation. Thank you. It could happen, its possible. Dana thank you. Wall street searching by a strong job support. The number of americans applying for and implement claims dropping to its lowest level in nearly 50 years. Gerri willis, is there any dart caught on the horizon . I know these things wont last forever, but it sure is fun to report on good news. Let me tell you, the stock market has been on fire. The longest bull market ever. We have economy expanding at 4. 2 . Who thought that would happen because
Marco Bonnett done . Obama couldnt get it past 2 . As a personal finance person looking at everybodys wallet. What you see is the savings rate has declined. At one point it was ten or 12 . Now its 2 and change. We are now seeing household that seeing franchise, 13. 2 trillion. Dana is that because people felt they might be able to spend a little bit more, because maybe they have a little bit more money in the pocket questioning i think thats true. I think americans they are optimistic now. They have all kinds of job prospects out there. The jobs market is opened up, weve seen these great numbers just this week. 49 year low for jobless claims. Unbelievable, right . Richard nixon was president , the dawning of the age of aquarius, nobody in your newsroom here even knows that year, right . This is very good news. We have a lot of good news out there, but americans of kind of forgotten all of those lessons from the blast that we saw. Dana dont humans always do that . I mean, its not yeah [laughs] dana jack mall, the big guy with lots of money in china, said he would come to america and invest and create a million jobs. Now he says that because the u. S. Is having tough negotiations with china on trade that the deal is off. Well, yes. To go back to january of 2017, and look at how he said he was going to create a million jobs. Was he going to build a big facility somewhere, open a lot of plants . No. He founded alibaba. It is the amazon of china. It is a retail store. What he said is that
Small Businesses would be able to sell through alibaba. Thereby growing. If he turns up, thats dumb like its not like we will are getting investment that would have. Dana we are a fine thing , thanks. Didnt need your money anyway [laughter] how does it affect the president s legacy cost market very excited. I get to ask a historian. She is up next. This took place this morning at a drugstore distribution center, and police say multiple people are dead. A
Law Enforcement official tells fox news the shooter may be a woman. Thats coming up, when i fill in on
Shepard Smith reporting. Dana as we wait for decision from
Christine Blasey ford, many people are asking how the success of this nomination will affect
President Trumps legacy. For that, i am joined by the author of a new book. This book is so beautiful, and you are an incredible writer. Its a real pleasure to have you here. Historians have a way of helping us to look at things. When it comes to
Supreme Court nominations, this will be
President Trump a second. President obama had to go, president george w. Bush george w. Bush had two. How does that shape a president s legacy . Its huge, no question. The president has a set of opinions, whether its conservative or liberal, and they are illustrated in a
Supreme Court justice, who also was a good justice and able to look at this decision as they are and becomes a legacy of the
Supreme Court justice, it reverberates for a long period of time. Dana
Turbulent Times we talk about. I want to reach you something that president excuse me, hillary clinton, former president ial candidate, said. She said we need to improve and protect our elections from instituting a paper ballot backups to repairing the
Voting Rights act, getting secret money out of politics, and he wont be surprised to hear my support for this abolishing of the
Electoral College. I think that i wanted to get your take on how much pressure the country is going to be under, as the population moves to just a few states. How much pressure will the
Electoral College be under . Its inevitable that the pressure will increase. I think youre absolutely right, because the big states with all the population are going to feel they are underrepresented. That is the way its meant in the beginning. The fear, if you get rid of the
Electoral College, is that the candidate might civilly go to the big state. They are not going to go to nebraska, they arent going to go to utah. There might be some a friend of mine was a great historian, he didnt want to abolish it, but he said maybe you could give the person a bonus who wins the popular vote. Then you could at least make it a little bit fairer. There will be pressure. Ice done mike i expect nothing will get done. Dana is a good idea for americans to make big, dramatic changes that they think theyre in the middle of
Turbulent Times . No, i figure its better to write it out and figure out there are changes that he did made in the political structure, i do think we have to figure out what to do about money in politics. We got to figure out the congressional redistricting. More portly, we have to figure out getting people to really participate. In the days when i was there, they would be part of it. It was like sporting event. That meant they were really excited that politics. The fact that people feel that politics is not a good thing anymore, they dont want to go into it as much as they use to in the old days, its a problem for our democracy. Dana you focus in this book on four leaders. Lincoln, theodore roosevelt, franklin d. Roosevelt, and lyndon b. Johnson. You ask yourself at the beginning the question you say you ask all the time our leaders born, do they learn . Did you come to any conclusion . Its both. There are certain qualities they are born with great intelligence, may be become indication abilities. Mostly develop as leaders through selfreflection paid all of my guys went through really tough times. They had adversities, they came out stronger and wiser the event. Certainly, frequent roosevelt was different because of the polio that he experienced. He emerged much more warmhearted. Interesting, not all leaders recognizing their leaders in the first place. Its historians who helped figure that out. [laughter] they get it. At a certain point, its interesting 23, 25, 28, these people knew that they wanted to be a politician. Dana thank you for being here. You are very welcome. Dana fox news alert, breaking news and the
Brett Kavanaugh situation. Just now, the
New York Times reporting that the accuser is now willing to talk to the
Senate Judiciary committee next week, if certain conditions are met. Lets go back to mike emanuel on capitol hill. Mike . Good afternoon. Breaking news, the
New York Times has obtained a an email from deborah katz, who is one of professor fords attorneys, basically opening up a negotiation, saying that she would be prepared to testify next week. Of course, chairman
Chuck Grassley has said at a hearing for monday, potentially. But she is saying thats not possible. They are in the process of negotiating, and email sent to senior staffers on both sides of the dish era committee. We know that chairman grassley has set a deadline tomorrow at 10 00 a. M. To load the committee know whether she intends to show up on monday. If ongoing negotiations, clearly, between attorneys representing professor ford, judge kavanaughs accuser, and the committee trying to see if they can work something out for some point next week. She clearly doesnt want to do it on monday, dana. Dana thank you for that. Lets go back. Were not can let. Going to let them go to lunch together just yet. We anticipated this. We thought she would show up, at least some possibility that she might. If certain conditions are met. Do you think the committee will meet whatever condition shes going to set . I desperately hope not. This process has been going on for months. She sent her letter to
Dianne Feinstein months ago. There was a process she could have been a part of. For whatever reason, they chose to wait until the very end of the process. Whether she leaked her name or the democrats did, i dont know how the
New York Times got the story. Apparently, the lawyers seem to want to have a conversation. At the end of the day, the political goal here is to just delay this and delay this and delay this. The democrats think they are justified to do that. Because of what happened with judge garland. What i say to the politics on the hill is holds that process. If she doesnt respect the process, she simply will not have her chance to testify in front of the senate. Dana if you think she will come, and republicans have been quite accommodating up to now, saying they would go to her. They said that they would do it in close testimony, open, they could figure different ways. Susan collins had the idea to have the lawyers actually question each other. If the republicans meet those conditions, to think that will satisfy the democrats . Yeah, i think so. Its an opportunity to let the professor speak, and nobody prejudges her. And it doesnt become a circus. We know these things turn into circuses, and this is one of the higherand circuses we have. Supreme court justices. That would be fair. So far, given the opportunity, i obviously favor the fbi being part of this. Other people dont. The u. S. Senators have the right to advise and consent, and the hearing from this witness is a smart thing before the final vote. Dana so, matt, where do you think it will go from here . I guess senator grassley, if you can try and get a hold of senator
Dianne Feinsteins office, they would try to map out what sort of process they would allow . I suppose, dana. But they didnt categorical, they were willing to hold this open. Once again, she wrote the letter, wanted to be anonymous months ago. Its not like this is brandnew to her, the idea that she might have to explain her story. She has had months to think about it. If her version of events is right, she has had years to think about it because shes been in counseling. She has got her chance to speak. She can speak publicly, or she can speak privately. But she has to speak under the timeline that has been arranged. Eventually,
Mitch Mcconnell and
Chuck Grassley, who have done a masterful job at a fair job, as you said, in all this theyre going to have to call the votes. The date of the day, their
Publican Party has to decide whether this process has been fair for
Brett Kavanaugh or not. I think it has been republican to watch, and i think its very unfair for him. Dana one more question, when i go to michael. President trump has been fairly restrained, his nominee has been going through all this. Do you know anything else behind the scenes of how hes feeling, how this process should work out . Well, all i will say is that he has a lot of confidence in
Brett Kavanaugh. You know he picked the right gu, and he believes that
Public Officials these days could be picked on with cheap charges from the sidelines at almost any time. I think he is leaning into bretts confidant to make his case. I think he has complete confidence that brett can do that, and i think he has confidence in the man he picked to be on the
Supreme Court. Dana michael, let me read to this email thats justin. Christine blasey fords
Attorney Says in an email to the judiciary committee, obtained by the
New York Times as you are aware, she has been receiving death threats, which have been reported to the federal bureau of investigation. She and her family have been forced out of their home. She wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety. Michael, her safety can be insured, surely . Surely, we are protect lots of different people and in all sof different situations. What sorts of conditions do think they will ask for . It sounds like theyre worried about her safety, and i would be worried about it, too. Part of this needs to be worked out. Shes a private citizen, not a u. S. Senator, not a sitting judge. She doesnt automatically get security to take her from point a to point b. She has received death threats. Weve got to be able to treat people who stand up and make a charge in a fair way. Beyond just this case. Whether its the church, our country is in the middle of this point where weve got to give people a fair chance to be heard and not to be threatened. She had a fair chance, and she decided not to exercise that fair chance. She wanted to be anonymous, and democrats didnt want to keep her anonymous. Lets face it. She may be a victim over dealing with the
Dianne Feinstein office, but we doesnt mean we have to compound that victimhood by turning it into a circus. There is a timeline, i hope she meets it. I would like to heal from her. I think the rest of america would as well. Heres my prediction we will learn nothing besides his point of view, and her point of view is going to be no easier after this for senator s to simply make a decision. Are they for brett, or not . Dana michael, i think the republicans need to remember, too and we had this poll yesterday, i dont have it here to pull up, but i remember it, it was a gallup poll
Clarence Thomas, in 1991, had a 51 approval rating. After the anita hill hearing, he had a 58 approval rating. As you are saying, michael, i think your point is lets have the hearing, this could actually turn out fine for republicans, as well. Lets have a fair process and see where the chips fall. Yes, i think the way that we treat the professor matters just as much. The republicans have 51 votes. If all 51 go one way, theres not a thing the democrats can do. But wait an another week, let r have a moment. Dana i would love you to watch the politics on this and come back next week, because we live talk about it.
