We met with a group of women who say they are revolutionary changes taking place in terms of the status of women. Neither one of us wanted to be snowed by handpicked people so we did some back channel conversation with our people come our embassy people and our intelligence people. And they confirmed that something was happening, it was different and it was a cultural change. Whats driving so much terrorist activity, whether its al qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula or hezbollah in lebanon. Its and extreme versions of islam. Not only is economic modernization being driven by this current regime in saudi arabia, but some modernization of the culture as well. One Great American said, trust but verify. Its hard to tell whether or not the economy is winning. It would behoove the Iranian Regime to become to the table. And arrive at a peaceful settlement there. Im slightly less optimistic. There are factions, dictatorships have a way of resisting sanctions. They had pledged a big humanitarian package, and you are understanding that thats coming to the foreground . Yes, and fact of this is something that i directly opposed to the crown prince of saudi arabia. As long as that assistance was not for forthcoming that could further exacerbate the security environment. We were assured that in coming weeks the final tranche of that humanitarian assistance would indeed be forthcoming . By the end of th the month we were told.
