John roberts is following it and brings us the latest. Good evening. Good evening. Congressional Budget Office should stick to dollars and cents and not try to project people or outcomes. Thats the message from the white house as the staff pushes back against the cbo finding that 24 Million People would lose coverage under the proposed new health care plan. The white house has criticized the cbo for not taking into account phases two and three of the overall plan which aimed to lower the cost of insurance and prescription drugs. Phases two and three havent been crafted yet. How are they supposed to take into account something that doesnt yet exist . I think thats a question for the house. There are constraints put on the cbo in terms of what they can consider. The point we want to make is if members are going to base their vote office score, they need to understand the totality and comprehensive nature of the entire program. Trumpcare is a wreck, and we all knew that before the congressional Budget Office released its surprisingly scathing score last night. Democrats are having a field day with the cbo report, tweaking the president for putting his name on everything from hotels to Water Bottles but not this. No one wants to claim this bill. If its so good, why arent they rushing to have their names on it . Trump wants to call it ryan care. Ryan wants to call it trumpcare. Classic abbott and costello. Jim jordan says theres reason every major conservative organization, conservative senators and house conservatives dont like the bill. We didnt tell the voters we were going to repeal obamacare but keep a bunch of taxes for an extra year and bring back the cadillac tax. We didnt tell them we were going to take the Medicaid Expansion and extended and didnt tell them we are going to provide insurance subsidies that have a 30 penalty. President pass on the opportunity for any Public Comment today even though he opened two cameras his Oval Office Meeting with saudi array beas saudi arabias minister. The white house added another small piece of the puzzle on the pleasanton president s claim to been wiretapped. As i have commented, i think there is significant reporting about surveillance techniques that have existed throughout the 2016 election. I will leave it to them to issue the report but i think he feels confident what will ultimately come from it will vindicate him. The president worked the phones on health care, talking with the ceo of anthem insurance and talking with republican leadership. Paul ryan and Kevin Mccarthy about how to whip the bill into a form that can pass the house. Tomorrow the president travels to detroit for his looking at making some significant changes in obamaera rules on fuel efficiency and auto emissions. Well be watching for the act. Big news tomorrow. Bret john roberts live on the north lawn. Thank you. A School Complex in syria bombed by Syrian Government forces in october was deliberate. One of the atrocities a United Nations Investigative Commission sites in a report looking at crimes committed over the last seven months. The report stated Government Forces and their allies have shown a complete disregard for life and International Law in the conflict. Iraqi forces are making big gains in the fight against isis, as commanders announced troops have taken nearly three quarters of west mosul from the terror group. The u. S. Envoy to counter isa says any fighters left inside the city will die there. Making those comments as the Coalition Announced the group was completely surrounded. President trump, hosted a meeting with one of our strongest allies in the middle east. President met with saudi Arabias Deputy Crown prince at the white house. Joining me to talk about it is an advisor to the deputy crown prince of saudi arabia and a member of the royal family. Your highness, thank you for being here. I know you werent in the meeting today but youve talked about it and heard about it. What can you tell us about the meeting between the deputy crown prince on the president . As i understand, it went very well. I think they got along well on a personal level and discussed many important issues. I think they found agreement on most of those. The prince was keen to meet President Trump as early as possible to reemphasize the importance of the relationship between the two countries and reinvigorate the partnership weve had with the allies and partners for 50 years. Saudi arabia has been a stable and reliable partner for the United States and i think the prince was keen to make sure we can move into the 21st century together in a positive and mutually beneficial way. Bret as you know, candidate trump did not shy away from saying what had to be done with gulf states paying their fair share for protection are going after isis, something he reiterated after getting elected. Here he was in december. When i look at whats going on in syria, its so sad. Its so sad. And weve got to help people. We have the gulf states. They have nothing but money. We dont have money. I will get them to give us lots of money and we will build and help build safe zones in syria so people can have a chance. Bret what about that . Save zones in syria and you all helping to pay the bill. Saudi arabia has always been keen to play its role in the region and partnership with the u. S. We are more than ready to cooperate with the United States on countering isis in syria, in iraq come across the region. Not just financially but the saudi government offered to send its troops into syria to fight isis. That was not meant with met with enthusiasm by the Obama Administration. We are more than ready to support the u. S. In eradicating isis. Not just financially but with troops and people. Bret do you think that plan is getting to fruition, that the secretary of defense has worked on the president , talking about it and save zones inside syria, is that a part of it . I dont know if safe zones were discussed today but i know that saudi arabia is keen that the fight against isis doesnt just involve eradicating it today but making sure that the ground that helps it come to fruition in syria and iraq doesnt exist in the future. We have to make sure that the people in syria and iraq that are liberated from isis can live peacefully, live in harmony. That i think involves, in syria, protecting them from the Syrian Regime and from its iranian allies. Bret saudi arabia is in the middle of instituting reforms, many reforms. While that is happening, the u. S. Is considering whats going to happen with the u. N. Rights council. Just today, secretary of state tillerson wrote a letter. Tillerson in the letter to the u. N. Advocates and says while the United States evaluates the effectiveness of the council, it remains skeptical about the virtue of membership in a Human Rights Organization that includes states with troubled human rights records. He mentions china, egypt, saudi arabia. We have always had an open dialogue with the United States about the issue of human rights. We have always acknowledged, that there are some deficiencies in the saudi system. We disagree on some of the assessments the u. S. Has on it but we will continue to have the dialogue openly and frankly and work together. Making sure human rights are respected. Bret what does reforming for people inside saudi arabia if it goes as you expect and what is it mean for countries if that happens around the region . Muslim communities and other countries. The government in saudi arabia is very focused on empowering its people to be successful, to be able to have a good life, good lifestyle. As long as we have an improvement in the level of education, opportunities for young folks. Women as well and all that, i think it will marginalize the voices of extremism and if we can set a good role model for the region, hopefully others will follow us. Bret there are some economic magazines who talk about saudi arabia and deflation and that they have serious concerns about the economy. I think the economy is stable. Deflation is less of an issue. We have had the Oil Prices Going down and we are relying on the oil price. Thats one of the things we are focused on. The deputy crown prince, his main issue is the program focused on moving us away from a dependence on oil on a much more dynamic economy based on information technology, skills that allows us to go into the 21st century without this reliance on the oil price, which will allow our economy to whether all of these challenges very well. I think we have a strong economic base so im not worried about the economy. Bret as the u. S. Deals with what the president calls extreme vetting and institutes the travel ban of six nations primarily muslim nations, that they have said, the Administration Says they have trouble with their visas over their coming here. You are not on that list but your thoughts about this and what it means for the u. S. The Trump Administration has described it as a ban not directed against muslims. I think the saudi government takes word. My understanding is that the prince did discuss it today and President Trump reemphasized the fact that it was not directed at muslims as a religion but a countries at which the vetting procedure is just not there to allow for safely understanding he was coming to the u. S. Saudi arabia has very stringent standards as to who it allows the country. We understand completely where the president is coming from that regard and as long as he assures us and assures the world its not something directed at any one religion, it is fair enough for the u. S. To make sure its security is protected. Bret your highness, we appreciate your time. I appreciate you having me. Bret lawmakers wrestling with the Health Care Bill will need to refocus their attention on the debt ceiling, and the deadline to deal with it is tomorrow. Wall street will be watching. Mike emanuel reports on the battle brewing capitol hill. The United States is due to hit the debt ceiling, the governments ability to borrow money, tomorrow night. Steven mnuchin addressed the issue during his confirmation hearing. Because the president has made it perfectly clear and i think its perfectly clear that honorg the u. S. Debt is the most important thing. He sent a letter to House Speaker paul ryan noting that the deadline is approaching, writing treasure anticipates it will need to start taking certain extraordinary measures in order to prevent the United States from defaulting on its obligations. Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell tried to keep the markets calm when asked about it today. We will be talking about it to the secretary of the treasury about timing. Nancy pelosi has called for a clean debt ceiling increase without conditions. Senate democratic leader Chuck Schumer challenged the g. O. P. To step up on the issue. Lets see if there are enough republicans who will vote to raise the debt ceiling now that they are in charge. We democrats have never used it as a weapon. Top House Democrats on the Budget Committee and ways and means sent a letter to President Trump yesterday writing youve promised the American People you will not support republican proposals to cut Social Security and medicare. We would remind you that a failure to raise the debt limit would prevent us from honoring those promises to seniors. In october 2015, Congress Passed a budget agreement to issue new debt is needed. The debt has grown since then 1,019. 9 trillion. Sean spicer notes that the white house is releasing the budget, calling it a part parcel of a approach to fiscal responsibility. How we address our deficit and debt and spending is something thats a holistic conversation that the secretary and dr. Mick mulvaney and others are engaging on. Sounds like the Trump Administration is showing a commitment. Nothing happens until deadline time. Bret thank you. Former Obama Administration is setting records when it comes to a lack of transparency. Associated press reports the Administration Spent 36. 2 million on legal costs last year defending its refusal to turn over federal records under the freedom of information act. The Obama Administration also set records for times that told journalists and others it didnt have files that were requested or outright denied them access. Battles on capitol hill over health care and the debt ceiling, president s allegation he was wiretapped, and the existence of socalled deep state. All of this and more when james rosen sat down with Vice President pence today, the first in his house office at the capitol. The Vice President had just finished meeting with republican lawmakers on the effort to repeal and replace obamacare. I asked about the white houses criticism about the projection that that legislation is crafted would leave 52 million americans uninsured by 2026. If that is not correct, whats the correct number . First we want to thank the cbo for their work. What the congressional Budget Office is good at is estimating income and expenses. What i think they are less effective at is evaluating what happens in the marketplace. Under the obamacare mandate, they protected there would be another 8 Million People in the Health Care Plans may and there really are. Their estimates have been off in the past. Whats your estimate . I think is very difficult for us to estimate how Many Americans will make the individual choice to Purchase Health insurance. We believe it is considerably higher than any estimate weve seen in the public today. Speaking with lawmakers bracing for possibly the biggest battle over the debt ceiling, i asked about treasury secretary mnuchins letter asking congress to raise it. We are you going to find the offsets . Stick we are confident that were going to be in a very different environment. The president is cementing his budget this week. As the economy expands, we believe were going to be able to meet the obligations of the federal government and deal with the issue of the debt ceiling in a fiscally responsible way. Every week seems to bring new reports about the fbi investigating members of the Trump Campaign and or the trump transition for alleged contacts with russian officials. Seemed only fitting to raise the matter with the man who shared the campaign ticket. Have you been contacted by the fbi . I have not. Former director of National Intelligence has said he saw no evidence of collusion between the Trump Campaign and the russians. Clapper also said he was unaware of any basis for President Trumps claim that he was wiretapped last year by president obama. When making an incendiary claim, shouldnt the president of the United States be basing it on something more than something that comes out there was a number of various media accounts alleging activity in the days that the president was referring to. Broader surveillance. Shouldnt the president have something firmer than that . I think the American People have a right to know what was going on. Many supporters claim that bureaucrats inside the executive branch opposed to the president are working behind the scenes to sabotage his agenda. The name given to the conspirac conspiracy deep state. Of who or what does this consist and what are its aims . Thats not a term ive used but i think President Trump has rightly been concerned about leaks that have been happening. To have the president of the United States on a telephone call with a world leader and have the transcript of the calls leaked the media is just unacceptable and constitutes a breach of national security. I asked about the methods of the president and Vice President. Mr. Pence said he and the president speak nearly every day. He told us he himself keeps no diary but does take notes when he meets with the boss. To be around President Trump is to be around someone who is constantly generating ideas and tasks and giving direction. I try and keep track of that. What is the Biggest Surprise about the job of the vice presidency . The job of the Vice President is defined by one person and that is the president of the United States. I do thin
