Really . Yeah spreading i wasnt really asking. Im sorry. Thats it. Special report is up next. Egypt strikes back after the beheading of 21 Coptic Christians and terrorism rears its ugly head in denmark posing yet another challenge to the president s embattled foreign policy. This is special report. Good evening. Im ed henry in for bret baier. While the commander in chief spent president s day weekend playing golf far from home in southern california, Terror Forces in Northern Africa and Northern Europe staged new attacks and threatened to bring their violence to the doorsteps of the Global Christian community prompting an urgent plea from a key member of nato tonight. We have fox team coverage. It was a grisly weekend of terror. Copenhagen is touched by terror. We begin tonight with chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge with egypts response to the brutal murder of 21 christians. Good evening catherine. Thank you ed. While theres no independent confirmation tonight, libya media is reporting that more egyptians have been kidnapped in retaliation for todays air strikes. Egyptian warplanes struck Islamic State targets in libya today hours after the terror Group Released a grisly video showing terrorists cutting off the heads of nearly two dozen egyptian Coptic Christians. The strikes ordered by the egyptian president general el sisi on public tv, taking military action in neighboring libya. We need to pull our forces together and face this threat that is coming closer to home. The fiveminute video is described as a watershed because
its believed to be the largest documented mass execution by isis outside of iraq and syria. Pope francis left no doubt the egyptians working in libya to send money home to their families were singled out for their faith. Translator there only words were, jesus, help me. They were assassinated simply for the fact that they were christians. The video uses multiple effects as well as camera angles and what appears to be a crane for overhead shots. This jihadi who delivers the bulk of the message speaks with a north american accent and wears the same cam mow worn by executioners who burned the jordanian pilot to death in january. Analysts say this is significant and meant to show coordination between isis in syria and north africa. All that is telling me that this is now the work of an international organized jihadi group. Its not only about targeting
christianity but meant to draw in libyans. And tonight italys interior minister is calling on nato to intervene, references to Osama Bin Laden are designed to give isis the mantle of the global jihad. This is the beginning of a genocide perpetrated by the jihadists jihadists. Its a diabolical action by this group. Darna is home to former Guantanamo Bay detainees. These latest murders indicate isis is working with libya and has successfully set up an affiliate nearly 1,000 miles from its stronghold in syria. Catherine herridge, really
disturbing images. Copenhagen becomes the Third European capital so far this year to be touched by terror. 17 people were killed in paris last month. A week later, belgian troops fanned out along the streets of brussels. And now the first deadly terror attack in denmark in 30 years. All the details now from amy kellogg. When police shot the suspect in the copenhagen attacks dead sunday morning they thought they got the sole man responsible for the terror spree. But now theyre looking for accomplices. Two men are held in jail today. Police looking for others. They still wont name the 22yearold shooter born in denmark, although no known membership in a terror cell but hes called Omar El Hussein and say he got out of jail a few weeks ago. He may have been inspired by the paris attacks which also targeted cartoonists and jews. We have now experienced the fear that terrorism seeks to spread. But we have as a Community Also responded with better determination and resolve. People mourned the dead today and held a march in the evening. The presumed target of the first attacks on a freedom of speech event was swedish cartoonist lars vilks. Instead a danish filmmaker was shot. Also killed, dan uszan, who volunteered at the synagogue for more than ten years. And in france today, jewish graves were defaced. Israels Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu is calling for European Jews to move. We will continue living as jews here in denmark and everywhere else in the world. Living
our lives, go back to normal life and showing the terrorist that they wont dictate our way of living. Denmarks Prime Minister said that denmarks jews belong in denmark and that the country wouldnt be the same without them. She also said that security around synagogues had been stepped up after the attacks in france. But jewish communities are saying that in denmark and across europe, something more needs to be done. Ed . Amy kellogg, thank you. Now to the president s response to yet another grisly weekend. Correspondent Doug Mckelway has fresh reaction. After three days of golfing and fundraising in california over the holiday weekend, president obama returns to washington tonight to an impending snowstorm and a storm over isis. The latest horrific video adding urgency to the congressional vote on mr. Obamas authorization for military force. But congress is divided over it and passage may be weeks away. House Speaker John Boehner telling Chris Wallace the aumf
is too restrictive. The president is asking for Less Authority than he has today under previous authorizations. I dont think thats smart. We need a robust strategy to take on isil. Others saying its too openended. I think its very important to find a way to get the authorization but also that we not write another blank check. The white house is trying to navigate the middle course. The president has given them a roadmap to follow. They can take that or they can come up with something else. But they should not take a pass on this important issue. The difference interpretations may stem from mixed signals from the white house. The proposed aumf expires after three years. But the administrations own recently retired director of the Defense Intelligence agency said last week thats not enough time. This will take ten years, maybe an entire generation or more. Adding to what critics say is the administrations tentativeness, the white houses statement following the beheadings omitting any
reference to the victims christianity, something the pope today noted was the sole reason for their murder. As evidence of the administrations resolve in the fight against isis, defenders continue air strikes, two in syria over the last 48 hours 13 in iraq over the same period. I think the president has the right pieces in place to try to confront isis. And obviously weve made some important gains in trying to stop their effort to try to gain additional territory in iraq. Additionally, 4,000 troops from ft. Carson, colorado equipped with tanks and fighting vehicles are now headed to kuwait. Those troops will expand military options the president has at his disposal. But at the same time the president has limited how they can be used as aumf explicitly permits Ground Troops but prohibits the use for, quote, enduring ground offensive combat operations. Doug, good to see you. That ceasefire that took effect in ukraine over the weekend is already being
threatened. Artillery exchanges continue all around the town thats a key railway hub. Ukrainian troops and prorussian separatists are supposed to begin withdrawing weapons from the front lines tomorrow. Republicans about to take the heat for another Government Shutdown. But first here are what some of our fox affiliates around the country are covering tonight. Derailment of a train carrying crude oil. Officials say the tanker car went into a river and is leaking right now. The Water Treatment plants in the area have been shut down to avoid oil getting into the water supply. Residents are being asked to conserve water. Surrounding towns have been evacuated. The governor there declared a state of emergency in two counties. Fox 4 in dallas as jurors in the trial of the man accused of killing american sniper chris kyle saw Eddie Ray Rouths confession today. The recording was recorded a few
hours after he fatally shot kyle and littlefield. And this is fox 7 from austin, texas, an amazing finish to the austin marathon. This woman led the womens race most of the way. But her body broke down at the finish. She had to crawl the final two blocks. She ended up in third place. Thats tonights live look outside the beltway from special report. Well be right back. The faa tonight is suggesting a new round of regulations concerning the use of commercial drones. This comes amid safety fears after reports of drones flying near commercial aircraft. One even crashing on the white house lawn seen here. The rules would mandate the aircrafts size, under 55 pounds, speed, up to 100 miles per hour, and altitude, 500 feet or lower. Final regs are still thought to be two to three years away. Businesses like amazon. Com interested in using the drones want them much sooner. We could be looking at another partial Government Shutdown in the coming days not involving the entire federal structure but one important part of it. Mike emanuel reports tonight, once again republicans could be set up to take the blame. And what if the department of Homeland Security funding runs out . Senate democrats should be to blame, very simply. And youre prepared to let that happen . Certainly. The house has acted. So far, though Senate Democrats have refused to budge and the houses dhs funding bill is stuck in the senate. A spokesman for nancy pelosi accused republicans of futile antiimmigrant grandstanding and, quote, with only four legislative days left until the republican Homeland Security shutdown, Speaker Boehner made it clear that he has no plan to avoid a Government Shutdown that would threat tennessee safety of the american people. The white house chief of staff said its critical that
lawmakers fund the agency. Its very important that we not, however, take the path that theyre suggesting we do take which is Congress Continues to get paid but Law Enforcement officials associated with defending our borders protecting us against cyberattacks defending our airports and making sure that airlines and Aviation Security is upheld are forced to work without pay. Some Senate Republicans are also expressing a sense of urgency and sound hopeful there may be a lastminute deal. It needs to be funded. We do not need to leave our nation in the situation with the type of threats that we have with an agency thats not working at full steam. So it needs to be resolved and i think it will be. At this point that path is uncertain. Ive got a tough job here, so does senator mcconnell. But Senate Democrats are the ones standing in the way, theyre the ones jeopardizing funding whichlt funding. Why dont they offer their ideas and see what the senate can do . For house conservatives with safe districts this is the
fight theyve been longing to have with the president. Yet for the 24 Senate Republicans up in 2016, especially those in battleground states or even blue states like illinois, pennsylvania and new hampshire, a Government Shutdown would likely cause some heartburn. Interesting because as you note in there and ran through that, its clearly a fight over immigration that started all that. But another fight over another big domestic issue, health care for the president another delay there . Thats right. One delay granted until february 22nd for people who had trouble finishing the application process before the deadline. And also a request from three democrats who say when people realize theyre about to pay a penalty on their taxes there should be an opportunity for them to avoid the fines and buy health insurance. They say since the administrations goal is everybody having affordable coverage, a special Enrollment Period would be wise. We should expect a decision from the h. H. S. Secretary in the next couple of weeks. Republicans are seeing an opportunity tonight to get in the good graces of a traditionally democratic ally, correspondent Shannon Bream tells us why some Senate Leaders are threatening to jump ship. We should strengthen unions in this country. Unions giving nearly universal political and Financial Support to Democratic Candidates who work to support unionfriendly policies increasingly, though, there is a growing divide between unions in the public and private sectors. A movement comprised primarily of Government Employees is primarily going to want bigger and more expensive government and higher taxes. But those in the private sector is pushing back against that and cares about lower taxes and cares about things like Construction Projects that would mean jobs for their members. Projects like the keystone
pipeline, supporters including a number of Union Leaders say the pipeline could generate tens of thousands of jobs. Congress has approved it and the president had vowed to veto it. We urge the president of the United States to put our men and women back to work across the length of this pipeline as soon as possible. We urge the president to sign the bill. And as critical ports along the west coast are at the center of a major labor dispute and cargo backlog, the parties are urging the president to get directly involved with helping to resolve their grievances. Mr. Obama spent the long weekend golfing in california but directed labor secretary tom perez to help the parties find a solution. And theres still no resolution in sight for the long simmering union objection for a massive tax on socalled Cadillac Health insurance plans which are used as a recruiting tool. Unions have repeatedly called on Congressional Democrats to address the issue. As far back as 2013 writing, quote, we voted for you, we have a problem, you need to fix it. That debate ask still raging with some analysts suggesting the gop could build some goodwill with the unions. House republican frank ginta is pushing a bill aimed at repealing the tax. Thank you shannon. A Russian Security company says an International Hacking ring has stolen up to 1 billion from banks all around the world. It says the hackers have been active since 2013.
