But more importantly, shes connected to a firm called concord. That firm was initially indicted by the Justice Department and the fbi as interfering in the 2016 elections. So on its face, it does seem to be an extension of that interference. Id also draw your attention to the dates were talking about in the criminal complaint. January 2016 through june of 2018. As you mentioned, specifically targeting the midterm elections. Criminal complaint says that she had a budget of 45 million for the interference project. Though it says that a fraction of that money was directed at the United States. In addition, it says that their goal was to sow dissension among american citizens and to amplify divisions. They did this trying to shield their identities as russian nationals. They used vpn or Virtual Private Networks to shield who they were as they set up email and social media accounts. I would also add the time ago peers significant because just a couple hours ago, we had a statement from the director of National Intelligence that oversees the 16 intelligence agencies, the head of the fbi, the Justice Department and Homeland Security expressing what they described as significant concerns about interference in the upcoming midterm elections. No signs that they had gotten in the voter rolls or trying to effect the vote couldnt but trying to sow dissent in terms of the way americans view the issues, whether as catherine says it was on gun control or immigration or other explosive issues. Just trying to set americans against americans. Of course, what could be more threatening to the american democracy than the idea of Foreign Countries trying to do that . Just this afternoon, members of the caravan tore down the boarder gate in guatemala. The men, women and children are from honduras and guatemala. S. And mexico . Its not so much an agreement as it is mexico receding to years of requests from the United States. Yesterday mexico asked the United Nations to get involved beginning with this caravan. But its been an issue that has been a serious problem for a number of years. You remember what happened five years ago. So with all of those Central American migrants pouring over the border into texas and arizona. Fox news is told that after the u. S. Requested many, many times from mexico to do something about this problem, they have agreed to ask the u. N. To get involved. Now, if the u. N. Does get involved, migrants will be processed to determine whether they have a legitimate claim to refugee status. If theyre found to have a legitimate claim, the u. N. Will take steps to resettle them. Top countries for resettlement would be the United States, panama, australia. If they do not have a legitimate claim, they will be sent back to their home countries. If they dont have papers to prove their identity, they will also return back. Immigration groups complain many people that are in this caravan and others that have come up from Central America in a general basis lack any kind of identification or official papers. If immigrants bypass the system and make it through mexico and cross the border into the United States, theres an agreement in place that has not yet gone into effect that would allow those people to be returned to mexico while their cases are adjudicated. Thats a big change. Weve had to hold them here in the United States while their cases are adjudicated. If it is deemed by the courts that they should be subject to removal, they have to be sent back to their home countries. That wont be the case in many cases. They can be taken back to mexico. If all of this works, shep, it could be a model for future migration. We saw one earlier this year and again a number of years ago, flooding across the border by the tens of thousands. This agreement or at least the request was agreed to finally by the neto government. Were told the incoming government is taking a wait and see approach.
