People were already beak evacuated out 69 canyon. Then i heard the sheriff on the loud speaker say this is not a drill, mandatory vakvation. Harris this is not a drill. The wild spread fires are fueled by bone dry conditions and powerful wind gusts. Fire Officials Say things got a little better today, conditions are expected to get worse over the weekend. Will carr is live from the front lines in santa paula, california. Will . Harris, this has been a massive fire scorching more than 130,000 acres so far. But today, the winds have died down. Thats given fire crews the ability to go in with helicopters and really attack this hillside, trying to knock these flames down. They have really done a great job. Weve seen the smoke di min y, over the last couple of hours. This is a far different scene than weve seen the past couple of days when weve been on the front lines, when the winds were blowing the hardest. Take a look at what weve been seeing. Themes flames are racing down the hillside, being pushed by the pierce winds we see throughout the course of the day. On the west side of the railroad tracks, but the reason why theyre such a big problem right now, is this is Pacific Coast highway. You can see firefighters coming up right now, theyre going to put this hot spot out. The real problem here is, weve seen fire crews up and down pch, this is really a very dangerous game of whack a mole. They have to go down one area, put the flames up, then another hot spot come out. And weve seen it throughout the course of the past couple of days. The firefighters are exhausted but doing everything they can. To protect communities like this. We had two new fires break out yesterday, including that one in san diego county, that burned 65 structures. Also hit a horse training facility. Weve learned that more than two dozen horses died in that fire. Showing you that this just doesnt affect residents but animals as well. Now, again, thankfully the winds have died down here in venture a county. But theyre supposed to pick up and be strong throughout the course of the weekend. Crews trying to take advantage of the elements while they can. Harris . Harris will carr, thank you. Were going to get more information from tom kruske, Public Information officer for the venture a county Fire Department, joining me by phone. Tom, youre with us . Yes, i am, good morning. Harris good morning, good afternoon on the east coast. Thinking about you out there. I want to know what the shelter situation looks like now. When you move upwards of 200,000 people whether theyre heeding evacuation ooshz or on their own, what does that look like for the resources that youre deploying right now . Are. Well, we have got a lot of good cooperation from the public in following our evacuation orders. So that enables the firefighters to get in and fight the fires engage it where they can do it safely and effectively. Shelters have been opting, we have about six of them operating during the course of the fire. The populations are starting to drop down and we are knee a transition phase. Were looking, where we can safely allow people to return to the burn areas. Harris talk about where this is spreading. I told our audience from what i could see on the map and im familiar with Santa Barbara, went to college up there at ucsb. When they started evacuations, mostly that was for smoke. But tell me where this fire line stretches, with these six different fires. We have a map up for people, too. The main areas of concern on thomas incident are up the california coastline, right near the ventura and Santa Barbara county line. Theyre also northwest of ojai, the fire has hookled around the ojai valley itself and moving up into the canyon area. Also, to the east between the cities of santa paula and fillmore, the fire is moving up into the Las Padres National Forest in those areas. Those are the two main areas of concern. Harris high winds, died down a little bit, and its supposed to get worse over the weekend. What will that look like in terms of what you need . Are you getting other states to help you snout whats happening . Resources are coming throughout the state of california, but also from other states. We have over 3,500 people assigned to this inls didnt. This inls dent. As youve been reporting, the fire, weather conditions, have laid down a little bit today. B. But we dont want to be complacent. Those winds are predicted to be coming up again throughout the weekend. Even possibly another wind event on in to next week. So, we wanted people to continue to respect those evacuation orders that are in place, although conditions are improving momentarily. We dont want people to start going back into the area until we allow them to and its safe. Harris 141,000 acres chewed through. Were looking at pictures of some of that on camera right now. And tom kruschke, venture a county Fire Department joining us by phone. What has this done to this portion of your state . You know, this, has been destroyed, its been damaged, its been devastated. We have seen fire conditions and fire damage like we havent experienced before. Weve had wildfires, but the damaged and destroyed structures, that has been kind of overwhelming for us. Harris before i let you get back to doing what you have to do now, to battle this thing, there are a lot of animal sanctuaries and wildlife type situations that weve been watching unfold. We have one on the screen having to do with the horses there. In santa paula. Im also reading about the condor sanctuary, you have a wilderness area, Las Padres National Forest. Real tender spots, if you will, vulnerable to the flames. Those are under tlept right now. Under threat. And theres a combined unified command with the forest service, many agencies, throughout the area addressing the fire. And the fire moving up into the forest and the wilderness area. Those are areas of concern. And were going after them where we can. Harris all right, we wish you wetter conditions. Hope the winds die down and you get some precipitation some time soon. We will be watching for it. Tom kruschke, blessings over the weekend, it will be tough. Thank you. Harris congress averting a Government Shutdown for now. By passing a twoweek stop gap spending bill. President trump signed that this morning. Now, lawmakers say theyll face a chaotic couple of weeks as they try to look at what they need to include in a broader budget deal. This follows. Trumps meeting with republican and Democratic Congressional leaders. In an attempt to jumpstart negotiations. Both call it productive but said something specific was agreed on. Productive without actual production you might say. Prubian congressman Drew Ferguson sits on the house budget committee. Talk to me about this. A government shut down doesnt benefit anybody. Its a Political Tool sometimes. Where are we . Well, youre exactly right, harris, it doesnt benefit the american public, not one bit. And i dont believe that were going to reach that point. We saw yesterday that the house moved very quickly to pass the two week c. R. Going forward i think were going to get a good bipartisan deal to keep the government open. I feel like that our offense is coming together. We have a clear set of goals. Look at what the house has done, this year, in terms of passing a good conservative budget, passing all 12 Appropriations Bills and its time for the senate to take action and move america forward. Harris the idea with illegal immigration, and the border wall, and specifically daca and the dreamers. The democrats saying they wont do a deal unless daca protection for dreamers is part of it. Ive heard congresswoman diane black said on it the program and others like yourself, saying you cant rush Something Like that through. So what do you do to slow it down some does it really have to be here to keep the government from shutting down . I mean you have two weeks, but its going come up again. Sure, the democrats are going to continue to bring that you. But, look, lets be clear daca and immigration, we have got to fix that problem, not only daca but border security, having an imgrapgs system that works for our economy, that protects our american citizens. And i believe that we can get there. I do not believe that needs to be tied tofully spending deal and i dont think its appropriate that the democrats are willing to shut the government down over that. Its an important issue. What we know right now, is that many of the priorities of america are in the appropriations bill and its imperative that the senate take those up, imperative hah we get a budget cap deal done, and most importantly its important that we get tax reform done for the American Economy and the american citizen. Harris that brings me to, do you think democrats will try this one thing to the next, try to get in the idea that maybe they can get some of their spending bill wishes in, by putting some pressure on the tax reform conversation, too. Even though, i mean, you dont need their votes. But you do for the spending bill. Well, we certainly dont for the tax reform bill. Im confident that the good work thats going on in the conference committee, is going to lead to a product that really provides great relief to the middle class and really transforms the may American Business operates on the global stage. I really think that thats good for america. Youre right, we dont need it for the tax bill and we should push forward on that. As far as the spending bill goes, again, if our conference sticks together, which yesterday we showed that we could, on the house floor, i believe Going Forward that were going to be in a very, very strong position, leadership has a strong negotiation, a strong negotiating position, and i believe that we can get a bending bill done that makes sense for america. Most important in all of that, is funding our national security. Making sure that our troops get a pay raise, making sure that the men and women that are serving this nation actually have the tools and the resources they need to defend this nation around the world. Harris all right, quickly before i let you go, we did not have to see the president sit between empty chairs. The democrats came to the table. Talk about the tone, the mood, the morale on capitol hill. You have a lot of stuff going on. Then you finally have bipartisan leadership at the table with the president. Well, i was glad to see them come back to the table. It was the right thing on do. Holding american citizens hostage in a budget deal is not the right thing to do. So, i know that leadership, at least on the house side, is committed to making sure ta we dont shut the government down. Glad to see the other side coming to the table. Listen, we have a lot of really important things to do, as you have pointed out. Going in to next year, we have the very, very unique opportunity to leverage all of the economic success that were doing right now, and really begin to transform our welfare entitlement system. Thats vitally important. As the economy grows, were going to need more people to come into the workforce and make sure they have the tools on do that. Harris congressman Drew Ferguson, from the great state of georgia, im a peach, i like the state. Great to have on you this fine friday. Thanks, har is a. Harris. Harris President Trump departing the white house for a rally in florida miles from the alabama border where that fiery special senate race is under way. Our power panel will weigh in shortly. Three lawmakers have stepped down in three days over Sexual Harassment allegations. Senator frankens resignation, the speech on the floor yesterday, did it backfire shhas Congress Reached a Tipping Point out way it handles sex harassment claims . Well talk about all of it. Is the president confident that congress and its leaders can police and investigate themselves on this issue . I think that, um, we have no reason at this point to be otherwise. Hopefully that process will move forward. Millions of us suffer from the symptoms of dry eye. Theratears® unique electrolyte formula, corrects the salt imbalance that causes dry eye. Harris fox news alert, three members of Congress Resigned in just three days this week alone. Arizona republican congressman trent franks maid became the latest to state he will step down in january amid sexual hara harassment accusations, but he discussed fertility issues and sur ro ga si, saying he deeply regrets this. This move comes the same day al franken announced he will be resigning in the coming weeks over Sexual Harassment allegations as well not long after john conyers stepped down. The three, just this week. But franken is facing backlash for his speech on the senate floor. After failing to apologize to the victims and instead dhoosing to attack President Trump and Alabama Senate candidate roy moo. Lets bring in john mccormick, Senior Writer for the weekly standard. Talk about this backlash. Al franken, resigned, i think democrats got him to do the right tling. Al franken didnt admit to any wrongdoing other than the first photo where he puts his hands close if not on the chest of a woman sleeping. He says that some of these allegations did not happen or he remembers them differently. Hes sending this message out, that he resigned over false accusations. Thats a bad message to send. We should belief those allegations because theyre numerous, credible, and serious in nature. For al franken to send the message that men can be railroaded or run out of their jobs over false accusations does not help the case, the effort to get rid of sexual harassers, sexual abusers. Harris what i just realized while you were talking, this makes him look like, makes him want to look like the victim rather than the actual victimles. What hes doing is circumventing the Ethics Committee investigation as i understand it, depending on when he exits. We wont get to see the outcome of that, will we . Or will that go on whether hes there or not. I imagine not. I think thats exactly right. Rich lowry, National Review made that point yesterday, if franken is honestly believes that he is innocent of all of these charges of groping and unwanted kissing he should face down the ethics xhipt. They should hold hearings, have testimony, he should chance to face his accusers, not to have it tried in the press. If hes really innocent. If he wants to admit wrongdoing and resign thats the right thing on do. That is likely the truth, there are so many accusations. And one instance of groping or unwanted kissing is enough on get you fired from private life. Should be enough to cause the resignation or getting fired are public service. Harris he walked back his apology, though. We carried it live on overtime when it happened. When he stepped up to the microphones right after the thanksgiving break, he apologized. He said then, quote, he wanted to become part of the whole National Conversation lifting women up. What did yesterday do for that . Unravelling . I dont think it helped. The idea here, is that we should believe allegations based on their objective truth. Some people have oven times hid behind the idea that he saidshe said. But what we see recently in the allegations, its not he saidshe said, she said, she said, she said and she said. Multiple accusations. Franken undermining this whole idea that were basing these judgments on credible accusations. Hes accepting this idea, i cant really serve well, theres this investigation going, on im just going on resign. Its not helpful for the movement of getting rid of sexual harassers. Heavy dont want to dwell on this, i want to move forward, but representative trent franks of arizona, kind of the same thing, we wont get to see the due process play out that, ethics investigation look, because hes going to be exiting as he says, at the end of january. I want to move on to roy moore. One of his accusers is about to come forward to say that that yearbook writing what she was talking about, that the judge had written that proved the case of the allegations that she madesing a as a younger girl were true that, she in her own hand writing added at least the date on to that. The significance, you think . I think there is a substantive significance and political significance. Substantive is not great, i was in alabama, i looked at this and talked to the moore campaign. Its obvious from the beginning these are two different hand writing, two different scripts, i interest have wrote in an article a week ago. It says roy Moore Christmas 1977 and the specific date and the location in a different handwriting this were a forgery, you would expect the forger to forge it all one handwriting. She is admitting this late, is bad, itll help muddy the waters but does not prove, shes not admitting to forgery. But politically, yes, it does help muddy the waters. Melissa this close to the election, were about to see it play out next week. How could you think this plays a role. You had all of this information, put in to the game, if you will, leading up to the election. And then just before it, at least one of these accusers saying no, part of that, that i said, was true was my handwriting. Or is that not the case . I dont think this even discredits her story alone but doesnt discourage the other stories. Roy moore, hes given these evasive answers wlorntd he dated teenage girlgs. Thats beyond the pale for a lot of people, the idea of a 232yearold man kissing a 17yearold girl. A 32yearold man and 17yearold dpirl. And the charge at age 14, roy moo molested her. Her allegations are not disproven. This yearbook fridays a different woman. You have reporters fro
