>> we are following up on that. there will be hours and hours and hours of video surveillance that we will have to recall. >> we are seeing the sprinter with various worries -- >> the diffusion center? >> correct. there are cameras everywhere, how did this happen? >> i don't understand what you are alluding to. how could this happen? this is an individual described as a lone wolf. i don't know how it could have been prevented if we had any prior knowledge. it was not evident that he had weapons in his room. we have determined that there have been employees going to and fro from his room and nothing nefarious was noticed at this point. that's what we know now. >> can you describe how multi-agencies were able to find the suspect? >> yes, you are absolutely correct. any special event that takes place in the southern nevada regions is required by nrs to supply police to ensure security. the mandalay bay did a wonderful job of having staffing for the concert. and when this individual decided to fire upon the crowd, which was approximately 22,000 individuals, it is very difficult to manage that size of crowd. you have to ensure that you have the proper staffing. as described, the officers responded immediately in conjunction with the fire department. as soon as the fire department arrived. they were able to identify where the weapon was from an proximity. it is hard to tell what floor it is from the outside. but once they gain entry into the hotel in conjunction with security and through phone calls from patrons, they were able to call it down to a possible floor. once they made entry onto the hallway, they immediately knew what room was in question. >> the dramatic reports about what exactly happened in the room as 12 officers entered? so -- >> i've not been told about smoke alarms, but i know that he had killed himself. we will have to go exactly through the body camera and existing video whether we engaged him at the same approximate time out or not. >> [inaudible question] >> no, ma'am, i cannot get into the mind of a psychopath at this point. >> the investigations going on right now at the site, how distinct is it? as far as the boulevard being shut down while they do their work out there? >> we have most of las vegas open, directly adjacent to the mandalay bay, still closed, we will ensure that we go out to the proper interceptions to limit traffic, but looking at 12 additional hours for documentation of the crime scene and removal of the bodies. >> do you know how long he was able to shoot for? was there any return fire from officers on the ground? >> i'm not aware of any return fire or the timeline. but we did have s.w.a.t. officers discharge weapons at the room location. >> [indistinct question] >> the fbi and the atf are helping us with that aspect. >> did the cops come from the hotel or were they in the concert? >> i'm not sure, because we have people that were deceased and injured outside the vicinity of the concert, it would be hard to make that determination at this point. we are going to have to talk to all those injured individuals to make that assessment. >> how many people were injured shot and how many running away? >> i do not know, ma'am, the people have been displaced in five separate hospitals. it will be extensive review to determine that. thank you very much. i appreciate everybody's time. i appreciate everyone here to the back of me and their support of our to police department. i cannot give you an exact timeline at this point, but we will keep you informed as we receive information. have a good day. thank you. >> that's a fourth update we have received, you just heard the sheriff say that we have completed the investigation of the shooter's room. he brought the weapons in on his own. confirming he acted alone. the sheriff saying that i do not know what or who could have possibly prevented this act from happening. we just heard from the mayor of las vegas, carolyn goodwin saying that the responders have acted nobly. we have people in need of area hospitals lining the hallways, if you are healthy and able to donate, please donate to your blood. also confirmation from the fbi. we have determined at this point that there is no connection at this point to an international terrorist group. all this a short time after president trump called this an act of pure evil. at least 58 people dead, more than 500 taken to hospitals. after that gunman opened fire on the las vegas strip last night prior to the massacre happen on the final night of an outdoor country musical festival. 22,000 people at a concert when the sound of shots broke out during the final song. the bullets came from the 30 second-floor of the mandalay bay hotel and casino across the street. you continue to hear them now. the gunmen identified them as 64-year-old stephen paddock from the vaguest suburb of mesquite. police found him dead after they used explosives to bring into the room. they say that he had multiple weapons, we are told that he fired round after round after round into that crowd. the gunfire lasting for minutes as thousands of people panicked and ran for the lives from the sound of this. [gunshots] [screams] >> what is it? >> i don't know. >> melissa: law enforcement in las vegas giving us a few updates moments ago. >> the number of people that have died associated with this event has increased. right now we are using the number of 58. at the number of injured, we are using the number of 515. and as you can tell as the hours go by, that number continues to increase. >> sandra: 58 killed, 515 injured, adam housley is live with the latest. >> yes, as you know, the morning has come along. we are seeing people released that have been interviewed. we saw about six musicians walk by here maybe a half an hour ago. one of them had tears in his eyes. you are seeing that kind of response. one of the survivors of the shooting said that she sat down after talking to authorities, and it kind of hit her. she just started bawling. that is the reaction now. this is starting to sink in. we got here last night and they said that there were two dead and 24 injured, we knew that that would go up. no one could have ever dreamed of it hitting 58 and possibly even more. we want to go back to the sound again. so many videos out there, meticulous -- take a lesson one more time of what people heard when the shots started. take a listen. [gunshots] >> i don't know if it is fireworks? it's really not. >> you can see and hear that it took a short amount of time for jason aldean to then leave the stage. and people to start panicking and running. the reason why his witness after witness that we spoke to, and we were here very early, they continued to tell us that they thought it was fireworks. it was the last singer and a a three-day festival on a las vegas strip. why would it not be something like that, some pyrotechnics to celebrate the end of this concert series that took place for three days, and then when people started going down, they realized that this was very serious. that this was not fireworks, but this was somebody shooting. we ran into people of all types, one came out and i saw the blood on his shirt. i saw the blood on his shoes. and he talked to me in a way that i knew was not a normal individual. he obviously had some technical training, we found out he was a first responder from the los angeles fire department. here's what he had to tell us at one point about how bodies are being taken out. take a listen. >> we walked up on this earlier, i thought it would be a gurney. any of said coming know what that is? and you said it is a freezer that they are using as a grenade. >> the tables inside were grenades as well. we are using everything we can using the rails between the portions in between. >> robert hayes is his name. at the firefighter los angeles. was given a vest, state and was swallowed. he pronounced 20 people dead. he helped drag bodies out. he was one of the many heroes that was able to save lives. in the number is horrific and could've been worse. at one point he said three body is not far from the freezer that he saw the body on top of as they were wheeling it down the street carried out on tables, tables that vendors were using to sell items at the concert. and they realize that the individuals had all died. they put them over to the side of the road, cover them, went back to get more. that is what happened here. that is what people are dealing with, sandra. i will show you a life look. once again to give you the idea of their perspective. of those are the windows that you are the sheriffs they were knocked out with a hammer like instrument. that is how you got the access to shoot out at the people below. if you come straight down, you see the main stage, that is where jason aldean was singing, that's where thousands of people gathered shoulder to shoulder to watch him sing his most famous songs. as you come across that entire area, basically a couple of acres of vacant lot a few days ago, now a horrific crime scene with the body still inside. the sheriff says it will be another 12 hours if not longer before they have a chance to remove those bodies and get their people, their investigators out of there. there is still much, much together and much to know. sandra. >> sandra: a horrific seem they are. >> harris: hello, it is harassed, we breaking formats, we will go along and ask you some questions. you did address the first one i had about how there were two windows that give a different vantage point if that was on purpose. what you have learned, yes, it was with a hammer like instrument. the other thing that i noticed with the news conference what they were is not a lot of explanation about why the 550 number popped, but i have watched and some of the reporting, as i talk with witnesses this morning that there were people who were shocked and dazed, he took a little bit for them to actually get some help, and you are learning about that. you have been there since 10:00 last night, how did that happen? >> think about it for again. we are at las vegas, a of venue across the street. it is the vegas strip. it is the energy. the end of the three-day concert series. people have been drinking for five or six hours, that comes into play here. also people go into different waves of shock depending on how much alcohol, you also have people that are not as coherent. you are at a concert. you are not supposed to be there to have to worry about being shot at. you have people that may be did not get it as quickly as they could have if they were 100% sober. you also have the idea that people thought these were fireworks. this concert was over. and if you first hear that and -- nobody is thinking that there is a guy up there shooting at everybody. that does not come to mind everybody. and several people told me when they saw someone go down, one individual told me that the girl next to them got shot in the head. that's what happened. then he saw jason aldean run off stage. and to the just went chaotic. when you have 22,000 people having to exit, and it's not like they were completely compacted. a number of exits where they could get out, but it takes a few minutes to get people out that gave the man more than enough time to open fire at wil will. >> kennedy: adam, it is kennedy, i have a question about reunited, people watching all over the world, and family members in the region who have no idea whether or not their loved ones were at that concert, if they were hit. if they have survived, in surgery, how are they reconnecting the family members? >> there are number of ways online. i don't have the phone number in front of me, we do not have computers out here, obviously the situation, but if they go online, you can google it, foxnews.com has the link as well. there is a phone number and a way that you can reach out. they are actually going to facilitate that more. as we heard in the press conference at the convention center in las vegas. so many people come here for conventions. one of the most famous places in the world. that's where they are having family members go, hopefully victims as well. they will set that up to reunite folks. at least that's what they said at the press conference. >> brian: it is brian kilmeade brian kilmeade, and maybe 200 were injured, now the number is a staggeringly six hours later over 500, now 50 plus that have lost their lives. is there a sense on how many lost their lives from bullet wounds and how many in the stampede that followed afterwards? >> yes, mostly bullet wounds, when we got here at 10:45, around 11:00, the shooter had been taken out. we did not know at that point, but now we know that he had been taken out by the time he got here. there were still in tactical gear. when we got here, two dead and 24 injured. take that into account. now plus 58 dead, 500 plus injured. we knew that we were in a situation that was much worse when we found out there was a concert first ball, and we heard that the shooting was coming from a higher ground, which anybody in military tactics knows it is a very advanced adventitious place to be. and the firefighter who you heard, robert hayes, and he himself, he told us, two dead, he said, adam, they are wrong. they are getting the numbers wrong. they will tell you more later, but i pronounced at least 20 dead, that's what i do. that's what i do in my everyday life, not like this. but when robert told me he himself had seen at least 20 bodies and told many other there were not in good condition. we knew that we were in for something horrific. giving your perspective, guys, we are maybe a block away from where the actual vacant slot is. the building behind my photographer, a normal building that would have the ricoh -- three or four -- blood on the ground, people over to the righa gas facility, they knocked down the six-foot cyclone fence with barbed wire. you see them around the gas facilities, we have them around the home town. they knocked it down. we are a block and a half away. they tore into a shed. people were trying to find cover anywhere. it was complete and utter chaos. >> lisa: we are hearing reports of hundreds lining up to give blood. is there any information that you can give viewers of where they can help out or donate? >> yes, umc medical center i know has a place that people know in las vegas. they have an ongoing blood drive. they have extra staff on. i would recommend to go there. but you can go to any medical facility right now and give blood. they are asking for it. you are talking about 500 injured, those numbers are fluctuating as well. recently he was 400 taken out in ambulances, but we know that people were throwing others into cars, flatbeds, suvs, that is not counting the ambulances. that's why they are going up as well. so back to the original question, yes, umc i am told is the best place to do it. >> harris: adam housley, thank you very much. elisa, i checked out the twitter page of the las vegas police department, they have all of it enumerated on where you can give blood. around the nation. because they will take it there if they need to. they need so much of it right now. that was part of the coverage. let's have us join randy sutton, former las vegas police officer himself. part of the police force for 30 years. mr. sutton, thank you for being with us today. i want to start with, you know that the mandalay bay is iconic around the strip. how do you get into a place like that with the kind of weaponry that he had and go unnoticed since september 28th, i can only imagine people like yourself and law enforcement have to be talking about that on the ground right now. >> yes, thank you for having me, i appreciate it. are talking about this horrific event. i think probably what he did, he surreptitiously smuggled weapons in and possibly a golf bag or he may have disassembled them and had them in his luggage and reassembled them. he had ten weapons that have been reported, so that did not happen overnight. he has been bringing them up to his room, it had to be several trips. but do not forget that he must have had a ton of ammunition, and of course that is very, very heavy stuff. so he must have planned and plotted this for a good long time. >> harris: the scope of the investigation would be aided by those thousands of cameras that they have along the strip and inside and around these hotels, pretty much today, you cannot go anywhere without being captured whether it is a smartphone or something permanent in the hotel. >> the surveillance equipment that the hotels have, there will be a tremendous amount of security camera footage that will have to be gone over. not to mention the sheriff already asking for someone who had a cell phone footage to bring it to police headquarters. this investigation is going to be monumental and its weight trying to determine what motivated this mad man this psychopathic killer to inflict the carnage that he did. without -- there will be no closure for any of these families until they determine what that motive was. >> harris: 33 years on the police department that is responding to all of this. aided by the atf, the fbi, and i would imagine other municipalities that have helped out with the enormous crime scene now. what are your personal thoughts about what is going on? you had two off-duty police police officers killed in this. >> at this point we know that one officer was killed. another is critically injured, a third was receiving minor injuries, so does this make it personal, you are damn right it does. the mothers, the fathers, sisters, the brothers, the family is, this is going to affect thousands and thousands of people in a deeply personal way. but it also harassed, will affect all of america. now is the time, this event is a time for unity. to this event is what we, as the american people must stand up for each other. we must set aside the petty animosities, the politics, and to stand up as one americano to combat this crime. >> brian: lieutenant, i know that you are talking to me now, talk to you on radio as well, but i saw some of the heroic actions of ex-military, off-duty officers, and ordinary people as noteworthy. we talked about the witnesses in the vip tent, he said that you saw ex-military jump into the gear. plugging bulletholes with her fingers while police were standing up as targets, just trying to direct people to go the right way. knowing that they could be gunned down at any moment. does that sound like the training you had? >> hell yes, it does. it is the warrior spirit to that is important in policing.to men and women brought to bear. and i too have heard absolutely amazing stories of courage, of commitment, of honor. and we are going to be hearing about this for a long time. this is what we must concentrate on. this is what we must revel in, because if we think only about the death, only about the heartbreak, then we are going to have a very difficult time getting over this horrific, horrific event. >> sandra: i was just going to get in here and share with you the words of the president a few moments ago. he called a first responder's efforts courageous, and thanked them for helping to save the lives of so many. he also said in moments of tragedy and horror, america comes together as one. we ask god to help us during the difficult time, kennedy, going to the point of the lieutenant. >> kennedy: making sense of this when the body count is rising in so many questions, it is almost impossible. one of the first things i wonder, lieutenant, you worked in the city for decades. what do you hotels do at this point? how do they change the protocol to ensure the safety? this person has unfortunately given a blueprint to stop targeting. >> this is the greatest nightmare come true. law enforcement has long thought about these types of attacks, and this is going to be studied for a long, long time. there will have to be a review of all the procedures that are in place, including response procedures. i have to tell you, the metropolitan police did an absolutely stellar job in identifying where the individual was, even though we do know that there was quite a time period, because identifying him and responding, and reaching the door took probably somewhere around 20 minutes. which is an absolute eternity -- >> harris: eternity. yeah. >> they bravely blew open the door, and to the coward this punk was did not have the guts to stand up to the police, instead he took his own life. he took the coward's way out, but you know, kind of getting off the subject, there are going to be reviews of all of this. and there will be changes coming, no doubt about it. this cd will be changed forever, because of the events of this night. >> sandra: randy sutton, thank you for your time and your service. >> thank you for having me. >> sandra: as i mentioned, we heard from the president a few moments ago. no reaction on the las vegas massacre. at least 58 people are dead, more than 500 we know now are hospitalized. the president calling it an act of pure evil. offering his prayers to the victims and urging american immunity and what he calls a time of darkness. >> we pray for the entire nation to find unity and peace. and we pray for the day when evil is banished, and to the innocent are safe from hatred and from fear. may god bless the souls of the lives that are lost. may god give us the grace of healing. and may god provide the grieving families with strength to carry on. >> sandra: chief white house correspondent john roberts is live with more reaction from the president. the president struck a somber tone as he spoke to the white house a short moment ago. >> the tragedy like that, you have to come forward and express sympathy. you have to find the wounds of the nation as best as possible, given the fact that the wounds are still wide open and raw, given that this happened only a matter of hours ago. trying to search for meaning and unity in all of this. and to find as the president said, summary of light in the midst of this horrific tragedy. he has issued a declaration to honor the victims of the mass tragedy in las vegas las vegas, ordering all flags at the white house and federal buildings across the country on u.s. military bases, navy ships worldwide to be lowered to half-mast in the case with the navy until the sixth of october. and the president was some solemn words, very terse words to the person who perpetrated the horrible act from the diplomatic reception room. >> it was an act of pure evil, hundreds of our fellow citizens are now mourning the sudden loss of a loved one. a parent, a child, a brother or sister, we cannot fathom their pain. we cannot imagine their loss. to the families of the victims, we are praying for you. and we are here for you. >> so many people who were affected by this so deeply are still trying to make sense of how a person could go to the room on the 30 second-floor of the mandalay bay hotel, and obviously case the place out, because the concert was going on for three days, and waiting for an opportunity to shoot down as many people as possible. it looks like he blew out the window with rifle fire and open fire on all those unsuspecting people down there on that concert field. as they were listening to jason aldean. the president saying in moments of tragedy and horror, americans always come together as one. listen here. >> and it always has. we call upon the bonds that unite us. our faith, our family, and our shared values. we call upon the bonds of citizenship, the ties of community, and the comfort of our common humanity. our unity cannot be shattered by evil. >> i've talked to people at the national security council here at the white house and in the intelligence community, no indication that this was anything, sandra, other than a lone wolf attack. at the moment they have no idea what drove this person over the edge to commit the heinous crime that he committed late last night. >> sandra: a long investigation ahead. john roberts at the white house. thank you. brian kilmeade is on the couch, what a day. >> brian: unbelievable. my first instinct this morning was i saw what happened in canada, what happened in france, here goes isis/al qaeda again, then you find out the details that this guy stephen paddock who the mesquite, police, no derogatory information. no indication that anything was wrong with him even in las vegas or from his family, so i think the anger that people feel is understandable, especially the nature of the crime. you shoot people in the back of the head while they are looking at a concert while you are 1100 feet away. the standard definition of cowardice, then he kills himself. nothing but questions and carnage, and unbelievable combination. >> harris: a couple of things came out of the news conference. one was the fact that they think those windows were blown out to not buy a gun, but some hammer-like device instrument as the sheriff described it on both vantage points. he would've had two different areas to look through giving himself that. the other thing is the fact that they had employees from the hotel that were going in and out of the room since september 28th, saying that they did not notice anything out of the ordinary. the last thing has to do with the person of interest, she is out of the country, but they have located this marilou danley, his companion as it has been described in reports. a couple of details about his background. he worked for lockheed martin defense at one point. in the department for about three years. and they made a statement, the giant engineering firm, so defense firms, it is interesting, he had a background as a pilot, owned two planes, more that we would learn that we talk about stability. to that kind of commitment. so we are learning lots of details. >> sandra: you were asking about how people can get their loved ones. this is not over. we do not know the extent of the fatalities yet. we do not know how bad it is yet. but what we heard from at the top of the hour was the mayor of las vegas. carolyn goodman, she said that we need help and blood. she said the hospitals are overwhelmed with victims. the rooms are filled. there are people in need of medical attention that are lining the hallways. it is a situation that as far as the numbers are concerned, could get a lot worse. >> kennedy: yes, truly on every level it is mind-boggling. it is impossible to wrap your head around the size and scope of the death of this person's evil. the fact that he wanted a much higher body count to them we have already seen. and none of it to make sense, times, you know, we sort of leap to conclusions early on about what might motivate someone like that spread is it religious? is it political? "the daily mail" did an interview with the shooter's brother that said that he must have snapped. he was not a political person. he was a normal guy. they were not necessarily in touch. and that the family is completely dumbfounded. >> harris: i have a little bit from the interview. he says it feels like an asteroid just fell on alice. his brother. he says, he is just a guy. he is just a guy, and he freake freaked. >> lisa: sometimes there are some signs, some mental health issues in the past where they have said things that were a little bit off to the family. it is interesting to hear those comments from the brother, but i want to reiterate, with all of us waking up this morning and being so heavy hearted at the loss of life today. i want to reiterate some of the things that the president said. we take soulless knowing that the darkest space can be illuminated by light. we look for some of the rays of hope and some of that is that we are hearing about hundreds lining up to give blood. we hear about the first responders, just the average americans that were there and instead of running to take cover, they help to the people next to them who were bleeding, who were in despair and needs of the comfort. i think of us we all sit here today, heavy hearted, we have to look for the light. we have to look for the hope and society as well. >> brian: we are getting emails from the senator of connecticut saying stand up to the nra. >> harris: quickly political. >> lisa: as you mention, surely we will hear additional statements from those on the left going to the conversation about -- >> harris: i don't think they will wait until later this week. >> kennedy: hillary clinton has artie tweeted about the nra, and politicizing while people are still in surgery and dying. it is like, this is still a very fluid situation. there will be plenty of time to figure out and dissect all of that. a political discussion could ensue, but right now let's allow people to get out of crisis and make sense of the picture. >> brian: before you say that this is wrong, this is wrong, no indication that he got any of the guns legally. >> lisa: they had no knowledge of this guy. >> harris: at one point, i was watching one of the previous news conferences, not that he did not have a record, they actually said, it seemed like he kind of popped up out of nowhere. he has lived in mesquite, texas, for a while. and then he moved to mesquite, nevada, and to your point, brian, one of the reporter said, is there any reason -- any way to determine the act if any of the guns were illegal or modified to be illegal in any way? in the response is that we do not know. >> brian: they were automatic and not modified. there is no indication that they were a semiautomatic made to be automatic. >> lisa: too often when things like this happen there is a rush to judgment or a rush to partisan politics when there are so many answers that we do not have right now. to kennedy's point, there are people who are grieving right now who have lost a loved one or do not know if a loved one is going to survive. >> harris: people are bleeding and fighting for their lives. >> sandra: the phone number that people are leading to is 866-535-5654. the fbi obviously as you heard from the sheriff or earlier is vital in their assistance to the investigation. you can assume right now, the sheriff confirmed that they have already gone through the entire room that the shooter shot from, you can assume that they are probably going through the entire hotel, every camera available, he was there since september 28th, 4 days ago he checked in. they need to find out what his activity was since then. >> brian: he had two platforms, ten guns. the first press conference said he was local, we knew of him. and i said, what do you mean we knew of him? we find out that there is indication? no follow up on that yet. family is in orlando. we saw the brother talk and say that he is worried there could be retribution on him and his 90-year-old mother, hopefully americans do not come to that. >> harris: we have been talking about helping people out, look at this line right now. i mean, kennedy, you talked about that spirit and all of us. so did you, lisa, just give a helping hand. this line right now is for people who are standing to give their blood. they have several locations, united blood services was one that the mayor and other officials of the city were giving for las vegas. if you live in that area, obviously that means something to you. right now you can go online and go to the las vegas metropolitan police department purged of the twitter page. they are tweeting out information constantly about the exact addresses and locations that they want to send people to. this line is incredible. to the show of love and force if you will. i want to talk to somebody now who was actually performing on stage in las vegas at a different venue, you know her, platinum recording artist from "the pussycat dolls." you are with us by phone?
