Should they take precaution . Absolutely. Everybody needs to remain vigilant until we can confirm whether these guys are here or owhether they left the area. We are strongly asking all of the public to remain vigilant. Report anything suspicious. Anything with regard to vehicle, burglaries, trespass, any sign of any of that we need to know about it. Staying indoors . Locking doors . Locking doors turning on porch lights, turning on floodlights, absolutely. The New York TimesJesse Mckinley joins us from west platburg. Jesse, whats the lawsuitest . Well whats the latest. State Police Believe they have cordoned around an area about five square miles about five miles west of here. This comes after a night last night of somewhat tense and intense searching along the river just north of there and east of dannemora where, of course, the inmates he is friday night. When they feel fairly confident, based on what . Have there been any sightings . Have they stolen any cars in the area . Other than the dogs scent and the dog could be chasing a dead raccoon as far as we know. Why are they fairly confident . They feel very confident in the dogs. The dogs are highly trained. They do this regularly. That being said is, you make a great point there have been no confirmed sightings of these two men. Some antidotal evidence bedding that has been found. None of that has been confirmed. The authorities at the prison itself are still trying to do the investigation there. They have limited forensic evidence. They have no vape. So they really are banking on the dogs and the fact that these leads arent going to be solid overnight and into tomorrow when they plan to try to really push them out of the woods. All right. Well, i feel pretty not confident that they know what they are doing simply because if they were so confident on doing their job so well everybody these two wouldnt be on the run. Look we dont know if they have any money. We dont know if this woman supplied them with any money. We dont know if they had some transportation waiting outside that manhole. We dont know if they jumped a train. Yesterday, everybody said they were in vermont. So, its like hard for me to have that level of confidence that the spokesperson just had. I would say that it is somewhat of a difficult theory to believe that after almost six days these two men are only about five miles away from the prison. In talking to the source earlier today he likened it to. So things that you mentioned. The fact that they have known. The fact that they have no vehicle. The fact that theyre being sought for over 500 Law Enforcement officers. That we know of. Yes thats true those conditions, the lack of money. The lack of transportation. May have convinced convict to settle down, bed down and hope that the heat passes. Unfortunately, i dont think thats going to happen. Jesse thanks. Its like at least one of those connections in mexico, i wouldnt be surprised if he they were like one foot over the border in the south. Anyway, right now they could be anywhere and thats what is so terrifying about this. We know they are dangerous. Jesse, thank you. And, of course, frightening words of a warning from lee baits. Baits is someone who served 16 years in prison for being Richard Matts accomplice in that murder where he murdered he will doctorly man who was his boss and dismembered him. Baits has this chilling warning about richard matt. Is he dangerous and like i said he is very evil. There is no telling what his mind set is and what he can do or what he will do next. Baits to cut himself a deal testified in court. He fears matt may try it retaliate now that he is out and on the run. At this hour no one knows where those two dangerous killers are. Enhancing the dangers is the fact that neither has anything to lose. Marshalls, Corrections Officers are swarming that small square mile area in upstate, new york David Favreau is near that search zone. He joins us on the phone. Why are you focused on this area . Well, you have to realize, greta all Law Enforcement has for physical assets, tools that they have to be able to find people like this are the k 9s as well as i stated last night the eyes and ears of the people in the public. We received minimal information which tells us there is not an awful lot of activity other than the training and what the signals we are receiving from the k 9 units strong indication they are in this area. Strong other indicators mentioned previously that would lend one to believe that there is activity in this area. Its a very dense wooded area where your average person hiker is not going to be coming through so any traffic that the dogs pick up on would be a good sign. The mere fact that people are not calling from texas or Mexican Border or down in florida is a good thing because, as people have been speculating, if they had a vehicle, if they had money if they had hostages, we would be finding some type of a trail. We have heard over and over from cell mates and relatives of these two that they are very dangerous that they are not going to stop at anything. That would tend to make me believe that they would be engaged in some type of criminal activity some place else if, in fact, they were on the move. Sheriff no one loves dogs or dogs more than i do. Thing is those dogs are certainly not infallible. There are instances where they do track dead raccoons. That seems to be as for these two if they are smart enough to figure out a way walls. Steam pipes and emerge from a manhole cover these are two very smart criminals. Im not convinced that they are in that area because they shaved their heads or they get new clothes. They split up. Suppose if they had had someone meet them. There is so many possibilities of putting of sort of all your eggs in this basket in this area to me is at least tonight seems, you know, unwise. Keep in mind, i mean, its not putting all their eggs in one basket. There are hundreds of investigators following up leads elsewhere. Anything that comes in were certainly looking into. People need to realize the geographic uniqueness where these people popped up through the manhole cover. When they looked around although saw were very very rural mountainous areas numerous types of wildlife up here. Large hunting community. If their ride didnt show up, they are stranded. Now, they need to go to a plan b and figure something out. They probably would have been great had they stolen a vehicle because we would have had something to look for and something to track. I think they know that their criminal mentality knows that in addition to the fact that they are patient. They have sat in those cells for 10 years thinking for different things. Probably thinking about this plan so they are very patient, which is frustrating to the community as well as frustrating to all the Law Enforcement tracking them. By being patient is what buys them more time. We are pretty confident that we have got a really hot spot here. People in the community have been very cooperative. All the Law Enforcement have been very goodwork woulding together. We are pulling in more resources, covering the area. Its about a 9mile linear perimeter thats set up around this particular spot, and were slowly working in. You have got to be incredibly careful that you dont bypass them. You can only cover a couple feet at a time as you ever searching. Last thing we want to do is walk by these individuals and have them get behind us. Indeed, sheriff one last question, i covered a serial killer a few years ago who was riding the rails. Any trains going through that area . Because he was literally hitchhiking on the train tracks. Im trying to think of different ways they might have gotten out of the area. Is there a train through that area. Not through the area but Old Railroad Bed areas of interest that started picking up the scent where the dogs. Were open area where the terrain is not as rugged and not as many trees and brush. The Railroad System that actually runs through here is several miles from where they are and is being very, very carefully watched from some wonderful vantage points so if they do get on the railroad beds we will get a few tips from there. Whats your thought on this . I worked with the new York State Police dogs. Those dogs are very good. But they hit on many things. And hopefully they are the track. But the raining that has happened in between the escape and today up there also interferes with the ability of the dogs to focus on the scent and as you said, they can be scenting a dead raccoon. They can be scenting other dogs urines and alerting at that point. And hopefully they the police have it narrowed down to the area, but they could be in canada or mexico for all we know. You know, i guess the only way they end up in those places, because we have heard no information that there has been a carjacking or there has been stolen vehicle in the area is theyland have had to have had evil men one of them successfully escaped once before. Right. Is he familiar with what happens after you get out from his past experience and then you have got to know where to go. You brought up a good point just now about the railroad track. Remember they had a five hour lead before anybody knew they were missing which is really a problem as to why that happened in the correction facility and was there a train that left within those five hours that they could have been on before anybody was looking. Its interesting what Governor Cuomo said. It might have been more than five hours. That they might have left the prison facility, you know late friday night i think he said. Well, that would be interesting. Im not sure Governor Cuomo said there is an issue here too. This isnt the first time that people have escaped from dan more ravment there has been repeated. In the early 1900s four prisoners from the dannemora did the same thing. They dug for four years under the wall, got into the sewer system and got out of a different manhole and escaped. They were found pretty quickly but and this happened a few times. So that dannemora has been breached and its interesting to know what they are doing about the security in dannemora. Something was wrong there. This just isnt an act of god. This is somebody who didnt do their job. Indeed. Anyway dr. Baden, thank you, sir. Thank you greta. He we are closely monitoring this manhunt. The second there is any news, we are going to bring it to you. And Baltimore City states attorney Marilyn Mosby is taking bigtime heat tonight. Now, even the Baltimore Mayor, stefanie rowlings blake jumping in and commenting on the criticism. You are about to hear those comments made by the mayor just hours ago after our Griff Jenkins confronted mosby only right here and on the record. Can i ask you a quick question . Cops have said that you dont have their back. What would you like to say to them . Im not going to comment on that. I come from five generations of Police Officers. Thats absurd. Of course i have i work with the Police Department we rely on the Police Departments to get the criminals off the streets. Thats absurd. There have been calls for your recusal. I think there is a lot of frustration among the rank and file and i think that frustration is shared with, you know, officers around the country. We are at a crossroads right now. There are a lot of Police Officers that feel that the community isnt supportive of their efforts and there are a lot of Community Members feel that the police, you know around spawrpts and protecting the community. I think its up to us in our time and our city and in our nation. You know, to stop pointing fingers and looking for way to bridge that gap and thats what im doing. The on the record legal panel joins us, homicide detective ted williams and former prosecutor katie farng. Ted, the Prosecutor Says its absurd. The whole idea that there is a problem. And the mayor says there is lots of frustration. Maybe the two of them ought to talk because the mayor says there is police frustration. She says its absurd. Absolutely, but greta our viewers need to understanded men and women who want to put on that uniform want to serve and protect the citizens of their neighborhood. The big problem that they have right now in Baltimore Greta is that there are confusing signals. They dont know that if they put their hands on the bad guy and arrest them or her are they themselves going to be arrested . The signals are mixed. We know that ms. Mosby was supposedly told them to go out and aggressively police. Which was three weeks prior to freddie gray. And now told them that they allegedly needed to back off during the riots. Confusing. You know, katie mosby last night i said she has got to meet with the police. She is the chief prosecutor and all her witnesses and all her big cases executing all these arrests are the police and she thinks apparently she has a license to disthem because she is a fifth generation family of Police Officers. Thats not the way it goes. If the police dont trust her. If they are frustrated like the mayor says thats a big problem and thats her problem. No one wants to diminish the success that she may have achieved as a baltimore state attorney in getting violent offenders off the street. But when the Police Officers fund mentally are confused on do their job top cop which is the state attorney is giving them conflicting signals, what are they supposed to do . In a typical situation it would require the state attorney to sit down and basically educate them or reeducate them on what it takes to effect a successful arrest. When the Baltimore Mayor herself, who previously expresses incredible support for the state attorney starts to quietly retreat i think you are starting to see that the baltimore state attorney Marilyn Mosby is going to be standing on her own eventually, trying to defend herself from the charges that she brought against these six officers. Do you think the mayor is giving the states attorney a call and saying anything to her . Well, i would hope that she should. I think that the mayor and the states attorney need to set down with the rank and file. Not only just the states attorney greta. She was elected and she beat someone who held that office for a while. She is a new states attorney. She is a new states attorney. There was a wonderful states attorney experienced who was there many years. Now we have this states attorney she only has five months on the job. Thats unfortunate. Very inexperienced. Katie, i dont know what these police are going to do on the street because, you know, they are getting the two different signals even more than that, i know that the ones i have spoken to and i havent spoken to all of them obviously, they are so dissatisfied with the states attorney. Its very disappointing because they need to have some guidance. The guidance needs to trickle down. They need some information or advice that comes from higher up. If you have a problem where the rank and a file are having problems with superiors because of the suggestion that the superiors are aligning themselves with the state attorney then you are clearly going to have the right result. You are going to have startling, horrific increase in crime. Not only in baltimore but across the United States. So baltimore state attorney Marilyn Mosby do your job. Be the prosecutor and the top cop in your city and help the Law Enforcement people that put their lives on the line on a daily basis to figure out what they need to do right. Ted and katie, stay with us. And drugs and violence causing chaos across baltimore. Today, Drug Enforcement agency releasing 40 more photos of suspects caught 27 clinics during the riots. Visited one of the drugstores looted, pillaged and burned. He is in baltimore right now. Griff . Hi, greta. Thats right. The cvs that we have been reporting on for so long one ever the ones hit. The dea delivering some news tonight, that number has risen. The dea tells us tonight that the number has risen to 30 pharmacies that were hit and the number of units and narcotics on the street more than 180,000. And, as we know, can you can see here at this intersection now there is a Police Presence but as we learned from the dea last week the drug turf war that was ignited when these streets were flooded with these drugs has gotten out of control. And, lets just look at the murders that have risen in june alone. We are 11 days into june. All right 13 murders. Five people were shot on monday alone. That brings the total murders to 56 for may and june. Its 128 on the year. We stopped by and talked to the dea special agent sean he willerman filling us in on just how bad it is and the new numbers. These are people involved in any number of looting that happened in the cvs or other pharmacies in baltimore during the riot. We found out now a instead of 27 we are up to 30.
