Delegates needed for the nomination. And ending with a starstudded list of speakers including athletes and business leaders, rivals and congressional leaders as well. We also saw two of mister trumps children, tiffany and donald junior all praising the billionaire businessman andmaking the case against lori clinton. Hillary clinton as a failure for ruining libya and creating a mess for terrorist activity, answer me now, is she guilty or not guilty . Guilty. We need somebody who believes in this country, we need somebody whos proud of this country and will fight for this country. Im i know fighters. Ladies and gentlemen, donald trump is a fighter and i know he will fight for this country. Hillary has changed her positions on so many times its impossible to tell where the conviction ends and the ambition begins. Not since baghdad has there been a public figure with such a tortured relationship with the truth. The next time theres a state of the union address, i dont know whether joe biden or barack obama are going to be but you will find me right there on the rostrum with Vice President mike pence and president donald trump. Ive seen it time and again. That look in his eyes when someone says it cant be done. I saw that look a little over a year ago. When he was told he couldnt possibly succeed in politics. For my father, impossible is just the starting point. Jon succeeded. John roberts live in cleveland with the latest, john . Reporter good morning and as we begin day three of the Republican National convention here by lake erie there are signs the party is for more unified that it was a week ago with an establishment figure beginning to coalesce behind donald trump. Certainly there are still elements of the party who even if they hold their nose would not vote for donald trump and there are some establishment figures who while they havent changed in their opinion of donald trump you say they are going to work to get him elected in november because for them at least, the alternative of having Hillary Clinton is the president really is untenable but by and large, we are seeing here at this convention is the establishment and other people coalescing behind donald trump. Listen to House Majority leader Kevin Mccarthy in his speech last night. In these difficult times i remember the words of president ronald reagan. When he described america as that shining city on the hill. Together, electing a republican congress, donald trump, mike pence, we can build a better america and make that shining city on the hill bright again. Reporter that is the result of two speeches given last night by Tiffany Trump, his 22yearold daughter with marla maples and donald trump junior. The senses they both gave very good speeches and that a child is a good measure of Good Parenting and that if donald junior and Tiffany Trump turned out the way they did, maybe donald trump is doing something right, maybe we dont know everything there is to know about him but a lot will be riding on his tomorrow night because he has to demonstrate, don, that he is not only going to bring this Party Together but bring the country together if he is elected president and the most important thing of all is he has to show people that he has an idea a cause that is bigger than himself. Lets find outtomorrow night. Jon john roberts in cleveland, thank you. The feud between donald trump and Ohio Governor john kasich is tent taking center stage right now. Our next guest says its more than sideshow to the Republican Convention and it could pose a big problem for the trump campaign. Letsbring in byron york , chief Political Correspondent for the Washington Examiner and a fox news contributor. This is one of those few that did not get paper over apparently before the campaign, before the convention, byron. Absolutely not. There is no unity here between donald trump and john kasich, the governor of the host state and its more than just a little spat because of how important ohio is. Its going to be hard for donald trump to win the white house in any event but the simplest way to do it is he would have to win all the states that mitt romney won in 2012 and on top of that window. Oh, pennsylvania and florida. No ohio, no white house so when october comes donald trump is going to need a lot of help from the political structure, the republican political structure in ohio and right now with his feud with john kasichgoing on it looks like he might not get it. Jon you have written about what youre hearing on the floor about the ongoing battle between these two guys. How do you boil it down . If you put it in crude terms i talked to a lot of ohio republicans, many of whom voted for john kasich in this last primary but a lot of them basically said look, we think john kasich is being a jerk but we think donald trump is crazy to be fighting with him so they see fault on both sides but i think others, morepolitical professionals have said its really up to trump. Hes a winner here, he won millions and millions more votes than john kasich did. He has to be sort of gracious and try to kasich somehow in the fold. Jon but trump obviously is in the position hes in because he has been publishes, he has refused to bow to political convention. Hes scrappy and if somebody punches at him, he will punch back so would trump followers , supporters, would they somehow acquiesce if he decides to extend an olive branch to the governor of ohio right now . You dont really have to extend much of an olive branch, you can say you know, we wish the governor were here speaking. Were sure he would be well received to talk about all the great things hes done here in the great state of ohio and then just move on. You dont have to bust too much or embrace john kasich but try not to be feuding with this republican who controls the power structure in the state thats absolutely critical to donald trump being elected president. Jon the big story of yesterday really might be the fact that trump kind of waltzed to the nomination. We were talking a couple of months ago, we were speculating on how there could be this massive floor fight that would have ted cruz waiting on a second ballot or john kasich sometime after that. Donald trump made itlook easy yesterday. Absolutely. Youve got to keep an eye on the big picture here. Remember we were all talking about 1237, is anybody going to get there . Will nobody get to 1237 . Donald trump blew past that number by about 500 delegates yesterday so he won in a very big fashion so the real headline is that after all the drama and after all the fighting and weeping and gnashing ofteeth, the Republican Party has nominated trump and he won handily. Jon and Hillary Clinton seems to be basing her campaign aroundthe idea that donald trump would be a risky president. His son addressed that last night. I think that was a really important theme in donald trump juniorsspeech and as john roberts said, its been well received. Trump junior used the word risk about seven times in the speech and if you listen to democrat they will all say its just too risky to elect donald trump, too risky to vote for trump. Basically trump junior was saying lets talk about risk. The real risk would be to elect Hillary Clinton and to extend Barack Obamas disastrous Foreign Policy or to extend this recession, this recovery thats not really a recovery so trump turned around the idea of risk to point it at the democrats in a way of trying toneutralize what the democrats are saying about donald trump the candidate. Jon byron york, Washington Examiner. More to come tonight, thanks byron. Thanks john. Melissa on to the democrats and their deep states guessing game with who clinton could announce as a running mate friday. Jennifer griffin is live in new york city with more on this, what can you tell us . Were outside Hillary Clintons headquarters in brooklyn, she is back at home in new york. Ive been speaking to top democratic sources in the last two days and they all give me the same indication that senator kincaid of virginia is at the top of her list for Vice President. Ive also received indications from virginia politicians that they are preparing in the event that senator kaine seat in the senate opens up sometime soon, in indication that that just how convinced many of them are that kaine will be on the ticket. Hillary clinton herself has left a number of clues about her future running mate. She says he wants someone with National Security experience, kaine served both on the armed forces and Foreign Relations committee. The other name that has emerged is longtime clinton loyalist tom vilsack, the current secretary of agriculture who brings executive experience as the former governor of iowa, he has a lot of poll among midwesterners and also among farmers but it is kaine who has shot up in recent days and the chatter among top virginia democrats and clinton supporters has intensified. In a recent interview, secretary clinton laid out why kaine would make a good Vice President. Everybody in the us has the potential of kaine. He says hes too boring. I love that about him. Hes got a great, i mean hes never lost an election. He was a worldclass mayor, governor and senator and is one of the most highly respected senators i know. Melissa clinton met last week at her home in washington dc with four other top names on her list, elizabeth warren, julian castro, perez and governor john looper of nevada an indication that she was preparing them in the event that they were chosen. We are told the announcement could come as early as friday, melissa in florida, thats where Hillary Clinton will be companionably later this week. All eyes will be in an event on miami on saturday, that would be where they wont roll out the Vice President ial pick. Another plus for tim kaine, he speaks fluent spanish from his time as a missionary in honduras and florida being a key swing state if not bk swing state, latinos and the latino vote there is going to be important, back to you p7 no rest for the weary this political season, thank you so much. Melissa governor Chris Christie offering an indictment for oak hill requesting that got the crowd fired up at the Gop Convention at the former prosecutor laid out a legal case against clinton, asking the crowd if she was guilty or not guilty, some even chanting lock her up and christie some but what her presidency would look like, listen. We know exactly what four years of Hillary Clinton will bring. All the failure of the obama years but with less charm and more lies. It is our obligation to stop Hillary Clinton now and never let her get within 10 miles of the white house again. [applause] melissa joining us now is consultant andrew, a columnist at the Washington Examiner and Republican Communications director for the dnc and former spokesman for Hillary Clintons 08 campaign, now the executive director of georgetown universitys institute of politics and public policy, thats a long title. Kristin lets start with you. How did Chris Christie do . Chris christie knows theres nothing that unifies republicans more than taking it out on Hillary Clinton. And really took it to her last night, hes clearly i think trying to audition for the role of attorney general in a Trump Administration and this was a speech that was intended to show off that hes a tough kind of guy who can do that. What was a little unfortunate is that christies was writing this primetime hour of the convention where the broadest possible audience at home is watchingit and it seemed to be to be more like a message targeted at the folks in the room, the republican activists, getting them fired up and unified where rather than making a case for donald trump to the audience at large at home. Melissa mo, he did prosecute the case and focused on email scandal which did seem to hurt her in the polls at the time, listen to what he had to say. Finally here at home and one of her first decisions as secretary of state she set up a private email server in her basement in violation of our National Security. She said she did not email any classified information. The fbi director says thats untrue. She said all work related emails were sent back to the state department. The fbi director said thats not true. So as to Hillary Clinton, the charge of putting herself ahead of america, guilty or not guilty . Guilty. Melissa ,mo its played well to the room. Does it play outside that room . I couldnt agree with kristin moore. The conventions are supposed to be the pivot to the general election, but to where you introduce your candidate to the broader electorate. Yes, you throw some red meat out throughout but its really about making a case for your candidate. Thats especially important in this election and id say actually for both candidates is when their unfavorable numbers are so high. People dont like donald trump outside of this fall. In fact, a lot of people inside the soul dont like donald trump rid of the primetime speakers, that have been carried so far in the first two nights, the only ones that are makinga forceful case for donald trump are the people who share his last name. Paul ryan made a forceful case for the party, not for trump. Christie made a forceful case against hillary but not for trump. Thats a real problem. Melissa lets talk about that kristin because donald junior went out last night and talked about the lessons he learned from his father, tried to show that softer side, the people get to know him better. Did he succeed with that goal that you mo just mentioned . I think donald juniors speech was one of the best weve seen and in part it was because so much of the focus was on making the positive case for his own father. Talking about his business background, the lessons hes learned from him, train his father as a competent manager, someone who knows how to get things done, achieve the impossible. Thats the message that got people excited about donald trump in the first lease and imposing poll after poll is this issue of the economy and can he get things done . I think donald trump juniors speech was a high point of the convention so far. Melissa i was watching it live but watching social media at the time as well and you saw a lot of out there that were really never trump and conservatives who had been very much criticizing him along the way saying ive got to hand it to donald junior, hes making the case and doing a great job, hes all the right things. You think that resonates the odd last night . It certainly doesnt hurt. Yes, i think it is helpful and i think a lot of democrats watched him and watched his sister and watched melania, may have been the best messengers of carrying a wide donald trump message of anybody in this convention but theyve got to broaden it beyond just the family. Everyone knows the family is going to be for him. They can introduce us to a side of him but everyone else needs to step up and start speaking about donald trump. This seems as kristin said like a convention that is designed to unify a fractured party as opposed to broaden the level of support outside this room. Melissa a couple days left, we will see if that happens. Thanks to both of you for joining us.
