Two new videos coming out by that militant group shows how far they are willing to go to establish their islamic caliphate across the middle east. In the first video isis appears to execute 200 or so Syrian Government troops. It shows the proassad troops marched through the desert with their hand up and killed. The soldiers were reportedly captured after militants seized control of a syria airbase near the city of topka. The second city posted by isis, shows a captured kurdish fighter, beheaded in the video ear ellie similar to the death of american journalist james foleys video. These militants say this video is a warning to the kurds to end their military cooperation with the United States. Now as the white house debates expanding the u. S. Military mission in iraq in syria, the isis is losing some ground in iraq. Us air strikes provided iraqi army and Kurdish Militia some space to launch pretty significant counter attacks of isis. Isis has put out of some of the territory it gained but holding on to a large swath of iraq and syria. They continue to hold several key Oil Producing towns. Most frightening, heather, they are gaining new recruits by the day. And most of the sort of general consensus seems to be, heather, that us air strikes and Iraqi Military and Kurdish Militias are not going to be enough to defeat this isis militant group in both iraq and syria. The president , famously back in january, was comparing them to a jv team trying to pretend they were the l. A. Lakers yet west points counterterrorism this week came out with a study that isis has been information for four years. And you get the sense that when the president gave his press conference yesterday he was unaware that the world is watching him. It wasnt just the line that everyone is talking about, that we have no strategy. There were other elements in there that were just astonishing. He mentioned that were in iraq to protect our personnel. Well do other operations if they have limited risk. This is a far cry from what secretary of state john kerry tweeted last week, that isil will be defeated, will be destroyed. It is a far cry from the type of threat you would imagine, the type of response you would imagine to a threat that secretary hagel said was beyond anything weve ever seen. Obama clearly gave the message to the world, that the United States isnt looking to engage in threat headon. He is very reluctant to do so. If youre a dictate or or terrorist group watching this, you have to get the impression that there is a green light to do further actions to destablize either your region, conquer more territory or plan attacks against the United States because you saw the president , very, very reluctant, without a strategy to go attack. I think it is a situation that has grown since then, and isnt so much about the pledge when you try to interpret what the administration is doing or not doing here. You cant cut the Defense Budget and signal to the world were going to retreat from the world. You can give these press conferences that show that youre not that serious about responding. As you mentioned in syria you can set red lines and not enforce them. That sends a message to the world. There are consequences to the actions. It sends a message to bad actors around the world this is an administration who is not seeking a confrontation with them. It sends a message to our friend, were to the really there to back you up. So this is not out of the blue. These are the direct consequences of policy actions that the president obama set in motion the day he set into office wanting to retreat from the world. What were seeing right now what happens when you set that policy in motion. I must say i think you went a big too far when you say retreat from the world. That hasnt been the case.
