There were 200 protesters that surrounded a bus filled with parents and children. Parents and children were being moved from one Detention Center to another together. They were not being separated. That is not with the protesters thought. They surrounded the bus. One woman threw herself in front of the bus but was dragged off by a colleagues. They were shouting, free the children, for the children despite the fact that separation was not underway. That was the perception. In the meantime, Customs Officials have put up metal barricades around the building for more buses to come down the line. Democrats are keeping the spotlight on this issue with another visit. That have been visits from both Political Parties all week in the rio grande valley. We saw the two texas republican senators yesterday and democrats, 20 lawmakers touring facilities for a firsthand look at conditions peer when they came out before the microphones, many not happy with what they saw inside. Because if we could have, you would have seen the photos of children in great pain, mothers clenching their children, fearful they were going to lose them. Mothers sobbing. Health and Human Services officials now saying they are throwing all resources possible to make the reader vacations of children and parents as quick as possible saying Emergency Response teams used in the wake of hurricanes will not be used to try and bring children and parents together as quickly as possible. The president spent a lot of time in todays speech talking about what he considers it his accomplishments since being elected. He highlighted that there be massive cuts in government regulations. There was also the topic at the roundtable discussion on tax reform that followed his speech. He talked about tax cuts and created 3. 4 million jobs since he was sworn in. The other big topic was trade. He tried to down play each fears of the country being hurt by a trade war. A lot of things are happening, the trade stuff is coming along, just starting. But its going to happen because we are the piggy bank everyone like to rob from and steal from. Unfortunately, we have great allies and great friends. We protect them for a very small cost. Donald trump says his tariff on steel really has work and he got where there will be a 500 Million Investment in a brandnew steel mill in the us. Very shortly. It sounds like the president is thinking about keeping his majorities in congress after all of this. Yes. You can tell almost every speech he gives. A lot of the tweets are focused very clearly on those midterm elections. He wants to keep the majorities. Today he campaigned for republican senator dean heller who is expected to be in a very hard place to keep his job. He welcomed the president support and says the tax cut has also helped nevada lead the nation in job growth. His opponent, jackie rosen was elected to congress two years ago. A former Computer Programmer but today, she was in the president s crosshairs. She wants to raise taxes. And i think so and says she is in nevada right now, campaigning with pocahontas yeah, and the other comment he made today about what he calls pocahontas, he said can you believe jackie rosen is campaigning as we speak, in northern nevada with Elizabeth Warren . Despite the president expressing pessimism, House Republicans are moving forward with whats being touted as a compromise immigration bill next week. Legislation faces an uphill battle to say the least. There is some very serious problems. In that bill. It does not really deal with the underlying issues that present themselves here at the border. We know that we have to have a rational immigration program. People want to come to america to improve their lives. I think we will have a vote next week and hopefully we will get together. But the democrats, what have they put forward . For the last eight or nine years they have not done anything. It is time for us to do something as a party and put aside differences. Garrett tenney has the latest for us from washington. So, what are the democrats saying about this bill . House republicans put the bill together without any input from democrats with hope is to pass without needing democrat votes as well. They argue that while it looks and sounds good in bullet point form, it does not address immigration issues in the right way. It deals in part with this policy that the president put in, the zerotolerance policy. But it does not really go to the heart of the matter. Excuse me, it does not deal with the daca issue in any rational way at all. It is important to member even if republicans are able to pass the bill on their own in the house, they will need some democratic support in the senate. Which is not going to come easily, jon. What are Republican Leaders doing to try and get this thing passed . We are told their meeting with various factions of the Republican Congress this weekend trying to come up with changes in the bill. One change that we have been told about is the addition of the requirement for employers to use everify to check the legal status of the workers and that is targeted to win over conservative lawmakers who backed off the bill late this week when the president seemed to suggest he was not completely behind it. Tweeting friday and part, republicans should stop wasting their time on immigration until after we left mark senators in november. He repeated the message again this afternoon in las vegas. The president clearly thinks that this immigration argument is going to benefit republicans when they come to the polls in november. Democrats also think that they have the winning argument. I dont know, you are a reporter and maybe you can gaze into your crystal ball. But is it possible to predict which side is right here . I dont think its possible to predict which side is right. I mean, the interest from both sides has definitely spiked up. Axios did a poll last week that shows the share democrats to think immigration is the most important political issue right now has spiked 80 percent. It is almost on par with the 20 percent of republicans who think so. Theres no telling right now who is right. But this could gear up to a political game changer ahead of november. Republicans basically voted down the good bill, the more conservative immigration bill presented this week. Next one, has everify proposal in it. It shoots down family immigration and a couple of other things. What is it that is in this bill that would not gain the support of all republicans . Enough to pass . The redline for republicans in the bill is a path to citizenship for daca recipients. It was not in the good bill that is in this bill and the more conservative, the house see this basically is amnesty. That is why it is unlikely that it will pass the house and if it does, it is dead on arrival in the senate because redlines for democrats is funny for the border wall. They will not gain politically by attaching the name to funding for the border wall. The redline for conservatives, a relay for democrats. Even by adding everify. I think its important that there was a provision for agriculture workings added to garner conservative report. Even with those additions you cannot erase the two redlines. Even if this passes the house it will never reach the president s desk. Exactly. The president had said, he is pretty support behind the building he said lets wait and see if more republicans are elected because he knows that you need more republican presence in the senate to pass the filibuster. As it stands it is dead on arrival there. It brings us back to the politics of all this. Some of the things in the compromise bill. Legal status for the socalled dreamers. I guess the question is specifically, how would that you know, be put into the bill . There are a lot of people who think that the dreamers cant cut in line in front of those who have bided their time and waited through the process legally. Right. You hit the nail on the head. This reminds me of what we saw in march. Nothing has changed. There is still a lot of debate. Democrats want a clean path to citizenship for dreamers. Republicans oppose that. Democrats arent happy with whats in the bill. As garrett said, its too complicated and it is to be even cleaner. It is just two polar opposites that it seems very unlikely that just as it did in march. Talk about all this clearly politics of this is resonating in the house as well. We have new border wall money this year for the president bragged about the fact that he is building some of the wall. We want to go the full amount. There will be another vote opportunity next week. Lets not give up hope yet. Ultimately we will work on this and will get more senate seats and come back at it again next year. He seems to think that there would be, republicans will be rewarded at the polls at a result of this argument. He said that and paul ryan, speaker ryan also said, we will cross the bridge once we get to it. When one asked what happens to if the two bills do not pass . I think if the bills do not pass it will be a hot political issue for Republican Voters to be frustrated say nothing can be done by a gop controlled congress and a republican president on reform. This would get rid of the diversity lottery system, right . And republicans are all about killing that. Democrats love the system. I mean, right when the president first announced he opposed this lottery system we saw a little reaction from democrats. But this migrant process has put that out.
