He canceled it and now we have kim jong un back where he was before, talking about wanting to do it, meeting with the leader of south korea, so i dont want to raise expectations but i think the president s strategy has played out really brilliantly and the most remarkable thing he can do it with all to have interruptions that i have to bring, totally rigged investigation. Yeah, but did he express level of optimism with you, is he too eager to make this summit happen . Well, no. Somebody too eager wouldnt have turned it down. Hes playing this like Ronald Reagan played and his achievement will be as great or greater. When its all finish, but lets hope. It might take six months. Youre right about that. We have to know, however, before we recommend to the president. When you look at how they treated manafort, how they spun into cohen, they are chasing things in the middle east, i mean, the reality is we are not going to sit them down if this is a trap for perjury and we are convinced of that. If they dont show us these documents, we with going to have to say no. Let me emphasize, he wants to explain that he did nothing wrong. Its us the lawyers who have to convince them that this is a trap. So take us inside that meeting with the president then what do you tell him . What does he ask you . What is that interchange . First of all, my job has been to try and negotiate grounds for an interview and weve been doing it. I mean, we have a team now, not only with jay but with jan and shes taking the load really of doing the negotiating with the mueller people. But the reality is that weve all become convinced even though we began with the hope that it could be done in good faith that theres too much. Now, some of it is muellers fault, some isnt. I mean, you have to ask whats the basis of the investigation . That and how about leaked comey report that turns out to come from a guy that, i think, hes one of the biggest liars in the history of washington. Let me get back to what youre referring to. No, they were not. They were spying on a term i dont particularly like on what the russians were doing, trying to understand were the russians infiltrating, trying to gain access and leverage and influence. You called the spy, they called informant. Whats wrong with the government trying to figure out whats wrong with the government trying to figure out what russia was up to . Nothing wrong with the government doing that. Everything wrong with the government spying on a candidate of the opposition party. Thats watergate. Spygate and without any warning to him and now to compound that, to make it into a criminal investigation, bill, thats why this is a rigged investigation. Way back when the president said there was surveillance of his campaign, turns out he was right, it was human surveillance rather than technical surveillance but surveillance nonetheless. Bill your strategy became clear back to james comey, you will put the credibility of the president up against the credibility of james comey and almost every day the week the president has referred to comey. He said this just on wednesday. The fbi is a fantastic institution, but some of the people at the top were rotten apples. James comey was one of them. Ive done Great Service to the country by getting rid of them, firing them. Facts matter, the fbi use of resource, tightly regulated, protecting the country, attacks on the fbi and lying about work with lasting damage to our country, how will republicans explain this to their grandchildren. You are putting james comey on trial and now listening talk to you you are also putting the government on trial based on the investigation saying its not legitimate. I understand where youre coming from, mr. Mayor, but how does this end . Well, first of all, it isnt the government, its james comey, clapper, brennan, the people who took this investigation and turned it on a candidate. You cant say you are spying on the russians if what youre trying to show russians colluding, whatever the hell that means with the Trump Campaign, the spying on Trump Campaign and the president should have been briefed. If he didnt, that would be outrage and at that point the campaign should been briefed. Not treated like criminals when there was no proof of collusion. Year and a half later and theres no proof of collusion, so stop the investigation, stop spending millions of dollars more. Bill if they do not do that, does the president have to fire someone . The president is not going to fire them. That would be playing in the hands of playing victim, they are the watergate, they are the people who committed the crimes. What we have to do is go to court and seek protection from the court if we have to do that. Our first thing is we are not going to testify unless its all straightened out, unless we learn the basis of the russia investigation, they are not going to tell us because the basis is going to turn out spread to trump to be unethical or illegal. They are going to tell us what they have found so far and the basis of the investigation, russian collusion. Here is what they found, zero, nada, nothing. President maybe they should wake up and realize the president is innocent and thats why he wants to it testify, because of them we dont want them to it testify. However, on the olc question, namely do they have the authority to do it, we cant lose, i think we get all votes because the Justice Department defines the authority of the independent counsel, he doesnt have the own authority, the Justice Department says you cannot issue criminal process to sitting president. Thats the law all over the world for head of state. Maybe in the ninth circuit, not in a fair court. Bill hes more likely to sit with chairman kim than bob mueller.
