Democrats crying foul over President Trump of the word exoneration for convicted felon and former confidant roger stone, but the president laying out a vision of redemption beyond stone, so is there a vision of trump justice taking place, or is that this something built around political expediency . Weve got analysis from top legal scholar Robert Jordan straight ahead. Welcome to fox news night. Im Kristin Fisher in for Shannon Bream tonight and lets get straight to chief breaking news correspondent Trace Gallagher live in our newsroom with the latest on the democratic race. Good evening to you. More on that breaking news, it appears that bloomberg strategy is and that those in the Democratic Party establishment who believe a Bernie Sanders nomination could be a liability. Political reporting that Michael Bloomberg is trying to convince Democratic Party officials currently aligned with joe biden and other moderates to instead align with him. The goal being in a brokered convention, Party Insiders would deliver the nomination to bloomberg over sanders. We shall see. Meantime, in the water political spin, there apparently are no more losers, meaning a crafty political operative would try to spin the Cleveland Browns into the new england patriots. When the Bloomberg Campaign try to paint last nights debate as a win, it mightve been a bridge too far. For example, critics call bloombergs debate performance data, unprepared, and the worst ever. To fights back, they had to spin and edit. Watch part of what actually happened last night followed by the bloomberg version. Look. Im the only one here whos ever started a business. Is that fair . Okay. I think im the only one who has ever started a business. Is that fair . Having those silent dumbfounded heirs going on for 20 seconds, and bloomberg got pulverized on social media, quoting great job editing. Like you, a total farce but you bombed big time last night and it was glorious. A joe biden spokesperson wrote may be next they can make a deep fake where the mayor actually answers joe bidens question about releasing employees from nondisclosure agreements. Speaking of those ndas, and be seen on reporting that over three decades, 17 women have taken legal action against bloombergs action, none made at the trial. The defense bloomberg used during last nights debate is the same when he used last month on the view. Watch. So have no desire . We had an agreement. We couldnt do it if we wanted to. Incidentally an awful lot of the woman would not want to do that. Maybe its you, but i dont think so. Elizabeth warren who got rave reviews for going after bloomberg during the debate was still at it today. Look. Last night, it was my job that we got a little closer look at mayor bloombergs in order to understand that of all the people standing up there on the stage, he is the riskiest one for the democrats. Hes the most vulnerable in a general election. Democratic president of candidate tom steyer who was not in the debates as the Democratic Candidates spent so much time tearing each other down, he thinks the big winner was donald trump. Steyer of course coming up in a bit. Kristin you wonder what he does different heading and the South Carolina. Thanks so much. Former top advisor roger stone sentenced to more than three years in prison for his case has been at the center of these ongoing tensions between President Trump and his Justice Department, calling a difference of opinions, shall we say, within the department of what the denims and recommendations should be. Legal invader is here with more Leland Vittert is here with more. What side the judge cited with this sentencing . The obama appointee on the bench agreed that career doj prosecutors overstepped when recommending a seven to nine years sentence for trumps disgraced advisor. Puts them on the same side of the attorney general which as we have seen over the past week or so isnt necessarily the same side as the attorney generals boss. The president. Roger stone still cant talk about his case because of a back down the gag order but had a smile leaving court today. A judge sends him to three and a half years, less than half what the government originally asked for. Spoke sternly, at times almost yelling at the notorious trump confidant and dirty tricks operative. This is not campaign hijinks. This is not roger just being roger. He lied to congress, lied to our elected representatives. Roger stone will not be sentenced for who his friends are or who his enemies are. The president thinks its a partisan hit job. I want this to play out. I think thats the best thing to do because id love to see roger exonerated and id love to see it happen because i personally think he was treated very unfairly. The judge compared stones sentence to Scooter Libby who received 30 months lying and obstructing justice lying to Vice President dick cheney. He parted libby in 2018 for democrat adam schiff foreshadowed his response to a possible pardon, tweeting to pardon stone when his crimes were committed to protect trump would be a breathtaking act of corruption. Roger stone and everybody has to be treated fairly. This has not been a fair process, okay . As the president notes, theres more to play out. Stone is free tonight because as attorneys want a new trial. One of the argument centers on the jury is for women who did not disclose social media posts that were critical of the president before being picked. The president weighed in on that all too tonight. The case not looking good for the Justice Department with justice in quotation marks. Kristin thanks. Amid these tangles with the Justice Department and is an attorney general, we are getting a better understanding of the president s views on justice. Any marks before tonights rally, the president try to strike a tone of empathy and redemption where he commuted the sentences of 11 people from robert boyd veg to Rod Blagojevich to crystal munoz who was in prison for 11 years for a marijuana charge. We are a nation that believes and redemption. We believe in second chances. We have thousands of people in prison that have stories like johnson, thousands and thousands of people. I love doing it. You know, you can be poor, you can be a middle income, you can be rich, injustice is injustice. Kristin lets get with roger george, mccormick professor of jurisprudence at princeton university. Professor, what does this we can you about how President Trump may be reshaping the Justice Department . Im not sure hes reshaping the Justice Department. Hes got himself in a little bit of a tiff with his attorney general. His attorney general, of course, a person of incredible stature in the Legal Community and served as attorney general before. As a general matter, i think its a bad idea for the president to get in a tiff with the Justice Department. Of course, what happen as your reporter pointed out is that judge jackson gave a reasonable judicially independent sentence to stone, 40 months very considerably less than what the being called rogue just official 40months in jail is no fun for anybody. Kristin deftly not. The question will be is President Trump going to pardon him in the president is signaling thats exactly what hes going to do. The words he used were very good chance of exoneration for roger stone. In making these kind of comments is what the attorney general said he did not want President Trump to continue to do, so if im bill barr tonight how am i feeling . Well, i think you are concerned that the president will do things that undercut your performance. In fact, the attorney general barr used very strong terms, at one point he said the president is making it impossible for me to do my job. Thats a pretty strong thing to say and i think he would prefer that the president stepped back a bit. The president has a part in power. Its right there in the consultation. He has the executive. He can do that. There are times where its appropriate to do that. Im sure attorney bar doesnt have any objection to him using that power, but he should step back from the stone case and the other cases and let the Justice Department, let the attorney general do their work. Kristin what do you think the possibility is that President Trump ultimately pardons him . The president said he still considering it but at the end of the day do you think President Trump will pardon roger stone . I do. I think the odds are 99 . The question about the possible misconduct by the foreman of the jewelry, the woman that trump himself referenced in his remarks, that misconduct would give a ground for the president to justify a pardon. Kristin take a step back and you look at all of these pardons that President Trump has done over the course of this week. Hes also passed some bipartisan criminal Justice Reform, the first step act. Do you think President Trump is in a way heading into election day trying to seize the mantle of empathy and compassion from democrats . No question hes doing that and i think hes hoping to break into some sectors of the voting public what republicans have historically not done well and where he himself has not been all that popular, especially minority voters. And with some of the pardons he has issued and some he may yet issue, he may actually build some support for himself in minority communities but certainly criminal Justice Reform earned him some points in the Africanamerican Community where injustices have been a big issue for a long time and President Trump went in and did something that obama didnt do, clinton didnt do. Trump i think is playing this in a clinically savvy way which is not to say that he doesnt actually believe in what hes doing, but it certainly helps them politically. Kristin it so interesting because last night before the debates started, a former Obama Press Secretary robert gibbs, he said that she actually use the word empathy. He said, are we going to see an candidate who shows empathy on the stage tonight . We now know that this is one of the bloodiest debates weve seen so far this cycle. So did last night really play into the president s hands . It certainly did not help the democrats. Its fair to say the winner of the denver credit debate last night was donald trump. The democrats seem to be moving themselves in a position where two people who have a significant chance of winning the democratic nomination are an avowed socialist and someone who seems to be playing to the stereotype of a plutocrat. Thats not a good place for a party to have a nominee. You do not want a socialist and you do not want a plutocrat, but they seem to be in the lead. What seems to be uniting the democrats and the only thing uniting the democrats right now is rather extreme social liberalism which creates its own problems with lateterm abortions and so far and so on. Interestingly we might for the first time in a long time see a convention that actually chooses a nominee, a convention that is a convention and not a coronation. Kristin some reports are to be believed, it appears that former mayor Mike Bloomberg might be really trying to push for that kind of brokered convention. I wouldnt be surprised. Kristin professor, thank you very much. President trump trust wrapped up night two of his through rallies in three days swing out west. Tonight, he was in Colorado Springs stumping for the states vulnerable republican Senator Cory Gardner and trying to keep colorado in play 2020. We choke when you was at the rally and joins us live with all the highlights. Hey, alisha. All right. We seem to be having a little bit of trouble with the audio. Ive been to a few rallies at myself and it happens. We will try to get that report when we come back. Coming up, we are going to be examining the debates over the bernie bros. Kristin fallouts tonight from that moment into the pit where mayor Pete Buttigieg to challenge senator sanders over the behavior of his supporters bred socalled bernie bros have been accused of bullying tactics and Keith Ellison said today, can someone send me an example of a bernie bro being bad, to which republican congressman Steve Scalise who, remember, he was shot nearly killed by a selfdescribed standard supported back in 2017 . He replied, i can think of an example. Lets bring in tonight power panel. Democratic strategist katlyn figaro and reuters correspondent jeff mason. Hard to argue with that respon response. Absolutely tough to argue with that. The only people who are arguing with that and attacking him are anonymous people on twitter. Myself, even working for Bernie Sanders, i think that was really a powerful statement for him to make, to rely how real this can get for a lot of folks who are being driven by the type of toxic environment weve seen on social media. I think a lot of people unfortunately forgot about that incident, that wouldve been great for mayor pete to be great to bring some concrete examples on what actually happened to the congers men. I think that we really should be quiet, those who want to say, what about this happen, what about that, what aboutisms, respect the fact the man lost his almost lost his life, Bernie Sanders has to continue to tell his base and supporters that the stuff acceptable. It surprised that mayor pete did not bring that up. Jeff mason, how big of a problem are the socalled bernie bros for Bernie Sanders . I think some of bernie band down mike sanders opponents want to emphasize it as a problem. If you look broadly at Bernie Sanders performance, hes the front runner, doing extremely well in the polls, did well in iowa and New Hampshire and looking good at the next couple of states coming up. It would be misleading to suggest that the bernie bros are really having a huge impact in terms of tamping down the enthusiasm that people have for him right now. But you saw the criticism on the stage, played the clip of mayor pete, and i expect well probably continue to see more of the Democratic Candidates who are trying to tamper down Bernie Sanders momentum where they continued to raise this issue. Kristin the big headline, of course, from the debate last night was mayor bloomberg just getting a real pummeling from all the other candidates on stage and it really continue today. Listen to Elizabeth Warren, senator Elizabeth Warren, who was on the view today and well get your reaction on the other side. The democrats should not appoint someone who has a history of embracing racially outrageous practices. After his performance tonight, i have no doubt hes about to drop tonight another 100 million. Why would the performance lead to more spending . In order to try to erase americas memory of what happened on the debate stage. Mike bloomberg, drop out of the race beat keep putting your money into a help democrats beat donald trump and take your ego out of this. Kristin jason ranz who was a seattle talk show host joins us now. Thanks for joining the conversation and
