>> reporter: good morning. there was a mandatory evacuation order that went into effect here in new orleans at 6:00 p.m. last night. as of t two hours ago, this stom is 150 of miles away from the mouth of the mississippi, which is essentially new orleans where we are. it has maximum sustained winds at 60 miles an hour. it's only moving at 12 miles an hour. tropical storm sally battered parts of key west. they did get more rain than they expected. this storm is expected to strengthen to a category 1 storm by early tomorrow morning. now, the storm surge is the biggest concern here in new orleans and parts -- as i said, the mouth of the mississippi. new orleans residents started prepping yesterday with sandbags. i saw businesses start to board up their buildings. that started at 2:00 next. todd: two la sheriff's deputies expected to survive after a brazen ambush that shocked the country over the weekend. jillian: instead of well wishes, a crowd outside the hospital blocked the emergency entrance and chanted anti-police messages. todd: joining us now, founder of the wounded blue, lutheran di sutton. thank you for being here. it's one thing to have two officers shot, it's another thing to have people outside the hospital rooting for their death. how have we become so callus. >> the vile behavior i saw outside that hospital was something that, i mean, to me is inhuman. the officers are expected to survive. i want you to think of this. they survived numerous gunshots to the head area. what kind of quality of life are they going to have now? as the founder of the wounded blue, which deals with injured and disabled officers all the time, i see this and i look forward into the future. now, they're laying there, literally at the time, fighting for their very lives and you have protesters? that's not even a word for them. you know, the president called them animals and i have to tell you, i don't like using disparaging terms when referring to other human beings but with the behavior that i saw there, it's disgusting. on the level of human kindness and compassion, they don't even rate. i wonder how they live with themselves for that type of behavior. it was disgusting. jillian: let's take a look at this statement from the la county sheriff's office, this is on that topic that we're talking about. and this says, quote, so the protesters blocking the entrance and exit of the hospital of emergency room yelling, we hope they die, referring to the two la sheriffs ambushed today, do not block emergency entries and exits to the hospital, people's lives are at stake when ambulances can't get through. other people might be rushed to the hospital because they have a medical emergency. you have to put this into perspective. you talk about the quality of life these deputies will have after this which at this point we don't know. the female deputy is the mother of a 6-year-old boy. this is a 6-year-old boy whose mother this the hospital fighting for her life right now. >> can you imagine the little boy having -- first now he's in this state of caring about whether his mother is going to live or die and you know you can't shield a child like that from the ugliness of what we just saw. i can't imagine what that little guy is going through when you think about seeing that type of behavior involving the mother. it's pitiful. it's pitiful behavior. i don't even have words for it and i'm usually not at a loss for words. todd: we talk about a war on cops and people criticize us for blowing that out of proportion. but when you see things like we saw over the weekend, i don't know how you can say there is not a war on cops. that's why we appreciate you coming in whenever we have an incident like this and giving us your insight how about this, collin kaepernick is blasting the nfl's new social justice push as the football season kicks off. todd: carley shimkus here with what social media is saying. hey, carley. >> good morning. guys. so in recent weeks the nfl has launched a number of initiatives to support the black lives matter movement but according to colin kaepernick, all of that is lip service. the former quarterback slammed the league in a tweet yesterday, saying while the nfl runs propaganda about how they care about black lives, they are still actively blackballing eric reid for fighting for the black community. eric set two franchise records last year and is one of the best defensive players in the league. so reed was the first player to join colin kaepernick's national anthem kneeling protest in 2016. the two went on to file a grievance against the nfl which was later settled. he is not playing football right now, though he is considered one of the best free agents available. nfl commissioner roger goodell has apologized for criticizing the national anthem kneeling protest and the league committed to pledge $250 million to social justice efforts. you saw a lot of people that you see on the screen right now taking a knee, raising a first during the national -- fist during the national anthem yesterday. jillian: cam newton always has something interesting in his wardrobe selection, if you will. >> he is known for lavish outfits during the game day. he didn't disappoint yesterday for the debut with the new england patriots. it takes a confident man to wear a bright yellow suit. i think you would look great in it. todd: thanks. >> people are comparing him to many things, including charlie day from it's always sunny in philadelphia. he got in a dust-up after the game. he had to be held back. he later explained he got upset because one of the dolphins players was reaching for his chain. he did win the game. but that kind of behavior, although it didn't get that bad, it's not really the patriots way. todd: i was looking at the chain, getting nervous that someone would pull it during the game. turned out it happened afterward. meantime, tom brady not a good game and social media let him know it. >> that's right. i was a rough start for tom brady, he threw two interceptions including a big six for a loss against the saints. steven on twitter says belichick is laughing from the sidelines. maybe a little true. tom says in all fairness, brady played arguably the top team in the league. so not the greatest game for the buccaneers, especially for a season opener. it was the fourth loss of a season opener for tom brady in his career. jillian: it takes time for new teams to gel. >>.thanks, carley. todd: before the next hit, can you pay the light nypd lieutenant wins a six month battle with covid-19, his emotional release from the hospital. we got in there because sleepy joe couldn't handle it anymore. we need very sharp people, i'm sorry. is ready to open and she joins us next. jillian: good morning. welcome back. president trump taking aim at joe biden as he makes a play for the key battleground state of nevada. >> sleepy joe biden, you know where he is now? he's in his damn basement again. november 3rd, nevada will decide whether we will quickly return to record prosperity like we had. the other thing about joe biden, he's not a strong person and he's not strong for law and order. jillian: joining me now is former nevada gop chair, amy tarkanian. good to see you. thanks for being here. >> thanks for having me. jillian: of course. what has been the response to the president's visit to nevada? >> it's been extremely positive. and i think it was smart on his part strategy-wise. i actually live i where he was n saturday. in order to move the event from reno to our county here, douglas county, it was truly a gift for the people here. it's close enough to northern california, you had the people also coming in from reno, carson city, douglas county is one of the reddest parts of our state and they are very loyal to the president so he had an incredible showing. when he went to las vegas, he was able to fill the venue very easily. they held a boat rally at lake mead which had 750 boats in attendance and then he also held a latino roundtable and was very transparent and shared that with everyone on youtube. so he's done an incredible job here in nevada. jillian: the governor slamming it saying it was, quote, reckless and selfish to have a rally, especially a lot of people saying he shouldn't be having indoor rallies, saying he's putting countless lives in danger in nevada. what do you say to that? >> you know what? i mean, i think at this point we're really sick and tired of the governor. he has been very strict with his rules and regulations that he's been implementing on the people here. we have lost countless numbers of jobs. my brother unfortunately was one of the 18,000 mgm employees that lost his job recently. we have small business that's closed up permanently and we have all followed the rules to really to the point of we're tired of this. it's now -- it should be up to the n nevadans on whether they feel safe or not to leave their homes. he has a 100 person posse if you will that literally harasses business owners and they check on a regular basis if you're following all of the governor's directives. anywhere from a small mom and pop shop all the way up to the casinos. you know, when you have people that are flooding freemont street and partying, when you have casinos that are allowing tourists to come and visit, i think it's time now to lift up the 50 person rule on churches. we can now have schools open. people are ready to get back to quote, unquote, what is normal and to make the decisions for themselves. jillian: okay. let's go ahead and talk about this for a second here. i know that obviously the president has had a lot to say about mail-in voting. let's take a listen to what he had to say about this on saturday when he was in nevada. >> democrats are trying to rig this election because it's the only way they're going to win. they're going to be sending out 80 million ballots and it's democrats, they're going to -- they're trying to rig this election. jillian: what do the people in nevada have to say about this, amy? >> well, i know that a lot of people are very upset with our legislature which is heavily democrats. they just during a special session approved ballot harvesting, which is a problem. i don't think the fact that ballots necessarily being mailed to people are a problem in itself but the way that they can be collected and turned in is a major concern. our secretary of state is a republican. she is not the one who creates the law. she has to just follow through with it and implement it. she's actually doing a really good job with what has been handed to her. but the concern is the fact that people can go and collect as many ballots as they wish, as long as they have the voters' approval, and turn those in. if you're going to go to a nursing home, for example, and try to coerce and try to tell people how they should t vote and turn it in on their behalf, that's where we're going to have a big problem. jillian: certainly a conversation that's not going away anytime soon. we know both sides are talking about it. amy, thank you for joining us. and look, we'll see how the president does out there. as we know in 2016, hillary clinton took nevada. so something to keep an eye on. it's going to be a close one. thank you. todd: president trump slamming former new york city mayor mike bloomberg as the billionaire plans to spend $100 million to help joe biden win florida. that money will go toward tv ads in the sunshine state. the president tweeting, quote, i thought mini mike was through with democrat politics after spending almost $2 billion and then giving the worst and most inept debate performance in the history of presidential politics, adding save nyc instead. bloomberg famously spent $1 billion on his presidential bid before ending his campaign in march. pollster kristin soltis anderson says the 2020 race is different for president trump because joe biden is a much different candidate than hillary clinton was in 2016. >> donald trump is facing a different race this time for a couple of reasons. one, he's facing joe biden, who is not the same as hillary clinton. joe biden has plenty of issues on his own but he doesn't have the same kind of toxic brand that hillary clinton has. while in 2016 voters who were undecided maybe didn't like both candidates tended to break for donald trump. this time around he doesn't have quite that same advantage among those voters who you might call the haters, the ones that don't like anybody who is running for president. the other thing is he's the incumbent now. folks are looking for a way to lodge their protests. todd: a new fox news poll shows the race for the white house tightening to within 5 points. the gulf coast is bracing for tropical storm sally, the storm is expected to become a hurricane before making landfall. new orleans issue ago mandatory evacuation for some areas. jillian: the storm bringing heavy rain and flash flooding to parts of florida. senior meteorologist janice dean joins us live with the latest on sally's track. janice. >> good morning. we get a new advisory at 5:00 a.m. we'll have the latest on sally. 60-mile-an-hour sustained winds, a tropical storm, 74 will make it a hurricane. the national hurricane center says this will be a hurricane once it makes landfall across southeastern louisiana. regardless of whether it's a hurricane or not, the results are going to be the same. the main hazard from his this is going to be the water. it's going to move very slowly. it's going to test the levies in new orleans. we could get upwards of 10 to 20 inches of rainfall in these area, so that's going to be potentially dangerous, even deadly for some these low-lying areas. so there's the track, we expect a landfall overnight tonight, sometime this evening, into tuesday morning. as a hurricane, we think. but again, it doesn't matter. the results are going to be the same and that is very heavy rainfall over a period of several days along the gulf coast. so we have a hurricane watch and warning in effect for the new orleans area, up towards mississippi and then hurricane watches and tropical storm watch as well for parts of florida. let's take a look at the models. they're in very good agreement. we are expecting a landfall across southeastern louisiana. the east side of the storm is where we get the worst of the storm surge, the heavy rainfall and strong winds as well as the potential for tornadoes. this is going to be obviously a big story today, tomorrow, through wednesday for parts of the gulf coast and i can't stress this enough, even if this doesn't become a hurricane, the main legacy is going to be the water and that is the number one killer with these tropical land-falling hurricanes. back to you. jillian: janice, thank you. todd: journalist bob woodward sounding off on president trump's covid-19 response after his interview with him received some backlash. >> well, i think, bob, really, to be honest with you. >> i want you to go. >>be.>> i wanted to always plat down. i still like playing it down because i don't want to create a panic. todd: woodward slamming the president, saying he is doing more harm than good. >> yes, i say the president is the wrong man for the job. one of the things that president trump told me, in the presidency there's always dynamite behind the door. the real dynamite is president trump. he is the dynamite. todd: woodward new book, rage, featuring several conversations with the president, is due out tomorrow. jillian: an nypd lieutenant is back home after a six month battle with covid-19. the 59-year-old spent three months on a ventilator. doctors calling the officer's recovery remarkable after fearing he wouldn't make it. dozens of people cheering and greeting the lieutenant as he arrived winds. pea othethe police posted the vo footage. in a note, the homeowner writing in part, thank you and much respect. sometimes it's just the little things which are very, very big, just like that. jillian: absolutely. moments of kindness. it is 20 minutes until the top of the hour. the white house steps up sanctions on tehran ahead of a historic meeting between israel and two arab gulf states. crackdowns amid historic moves towards peace. jillian: plus microsoft's bid for tiktok rejected. the other company in the driver's seat. jillian: good morning. welcome back. president trump is cracking down on i'lll illicit iran trade. todd: trey yingst is live in jerusalem with the crackdown. trey, good morning. >> reporter: todd, jillian, good morning. after the united states pulled out of the iran nuclear deal in 2018, the regime in tehran continued to move forward with its nuclear program, often funding the program through back door trade. the trump administration's sanctions campaign has had little effect in changing iranian behavior and their proxy action across the middle east. a new report over the weekend claims that iran is plotting to assassinate the u.s. ambassador to south africa in response to the u.s. killing of iranian general qassem soleimani in baghdad earlier this year. kelly craft told fox news that the administration will begin to economically target countries who are continuing to do business the islamic republic. earlier this month, the united states sanctioned 11 petrochemical companies accused of supplying oil to iran. three of the companies are based in the united arab emirates. this comes as the uae and israel are set to sign a peace accord brokered by the united states. bahrain will join the uae in normalizing ties with israel. >> what president trump has done over the last 30 days is remarkable. we now have two peace deals that president trump has made, one between israel and the united arab emirates, and a second peace deal that came 29 days later between israel and the kingdom of bahrain. previously, the last peace deal came 26 years ago and there's been 72 years for israel where they only had two peace deals and now you have two peace deals in 29 days. >> reporter: both the uae and bahrain have had ties with the israelis for a number of years. they don't share any borders and haven't fought any wars. this is more of a normalization deal than a peace deal and it comes two months before the u.s. elections in november. todd, jillian. todd: thank you very much. jillian: japan is one step closer to its next prime was rejected. the two were competing for the video sharing app. president trump signed an executive order banning the app if the u.s. operations were not sold to an american company, citing a national security risk. president trump signing an executive order aimed at lowering prescription drug prices, the president making the announcement on twitter saying in part, quote, my most favored nation order will ensure that our country gets the same low price big pharma gives to other countries. the days of global free riding at america's expense are over and prices are coming down fast. also, just ended all rebates to middlemen, further reducing prices. todd: big news on the covid-19 vacation seen front. pfizer's ceo announcing they will be better for approval -- be ready for approval sooner than our expected. >> our status, we have a good chance we will know if the product works by the end of november. it is regulator's job to issue license or not. todd: this as astrazeneca rieu seem -- resumes their safety trying. joining us now, dr. jeanette nesheiwat. let's start with pfizer. read between the lines for us if you could, how optimistic are you if we will know whether the pfizer vaccine works by the end of october, which quite frankly is only about six weeks away. >> it's all about the data, todd. what does the data show. number one, they have to prove safety and efficacy. does it work and will the body produce antibodies to protect us against coronavirus if we come into contact with it in the community. we need to see what the data shows. there's promising results in phase one and two. they're in phase three now. i like the fact they're trying to increase their volume of volunteers from 30,000 to 44,000 volunteers. they want to make sure they get a good representation of volunteers, meaning african-americans, hispanic, latinos, whites, not just a majority of one race because they want to see who does this virus affect the most. we know it affects hispanics, latinos and african-americans. we want to make sure and we want to see that the virus -- that the vaccine will protect them ultimately in addition to everyone else of course. todd: fingers crossed. now to astrazeneca. the doom and gloomers are pointing, oh, one person had an interaction that was negative but 18,000 people received the study vaccine. obviously, you never want anybody to suffer any negative consequences. but shouldn't these numbers just further reassure us on how safe any astrazeneca vaccine would ultimately be in the end? >> you're exactly right, todd. they paused this trial out of thousands of volunteers worldwide, they paused it for one person, for one volunteer. that's just a testament to show you that safety is their priority. and it definitely reassures me as a physician that they're adhering to strict guidelines, rigorous guidelines to ensure that safety is their number one priority. what they found was there was inflammation found in this patient but they are now resuming the trials in the united kingdom, hopefully soon they will resume also in the united states and other parts of the world where the vaccine is being tested. todd: it's just amazing to me how so many people took that information and went completely to negative town on it when if they actually studied and analyzed it, it's actually good news. dr. fauci is warning the u.s. will need to hunker down this fall and winter. what are you telling your patients about dr. fauci's warning that we need to hunker down because covid-19 could increase because of the flu and other
