I raced down in my personal vehicle to my precinct, i remember the fighter jets flying over the hudson. My partner was dispatched, we couldnt communicate, find them for hours, it was a horrible thing. We debited he finally came back, and his team leader on into the next day of september 12th in the morning. 25,000 people were rescued from the twin towers, because of people like you. Doctor porcher, you were a former nypd Lieutenant Army veteran, tell us about your story that day. At the time of 9 11 i was a sergeant assigned to manhattan and i was working when the attack occurred. I was in uniform and upon the second plane striking the towers that is one myself with the contingent is Police Officers responded where the towers are located. I lost a coworker, detective glenn pettit in the midst of the destruction in that area. Glenn who selflessly put himself on the back burner and focused on selflessly assisting the people in those towers, subsequently losing his life. I speak from two components which is a prior army officer i understand how necessary it is to command troops in time of confusion but as a Police Sergeant you are managing not just armed officers but the public so it is a complicated situation, but it is nostalgic but tearful looking back to 9 11. We want to hear your story about what 9 11 means and what you went through four years ago. 911 was touching to me. It really hurt, i was off that day, the first time it hit i was in downtown brooklyn and i responded to the event, selflessly to go out and help all the americans and everybody down there. It really hurt to see such a catastrophic event take place on us soil. It hurt me very bad and it still does to this day. So many stories like the one you were talking about, people were in a safe spot and go back to those buildings and put their lives on the line and that characterizes this nation and people like you who are called to serve. There was a time First Responders, Police Officers were looked at as heroes and it is not like that, how does that make you feel and how can we change that, people who are afraid of Police Officers or think they are bad people dont feel that way anymore. People need to understand we have families. In spite of the hatred, doing our jobs, sacrificing our lives selflessly regardless of a persons race, creed or color, in 2009 my team foiled a plot, a subway attack on the anniversary of september 11th, 2009. People dont view that in the news because it is not a horrible event that they can blame the police but we are doing our job. Even though the attack happens 19 years ago it is affecting people today. They added 27 names to their Memorial Wall for 9 11 related illnesses. You dont hear stories like that. It is unfortunate. These stories dont make it into the news. We speak to the current climate of the funding for police and, quote, deep policing, the removal of police, sets forth the question of Public Safety. We are in a pandemic so a lot of the country is in lockdown but ev the gates will open up and we will move throughout society and see a lot of Mass Shootings and terrorist activities that take place and then you see the calling for police to stand for posture so it is unfortunate, not fear mongering, police are the first line of defense and fit in the purview of the social contract. So many good officers like you three. One of the things i find unfortunate, so many young men and women who grew up wanting to be a Police Officer and look up to Law Enforcement and i dont know if that is for me anymore.
