does china know what we probably know? and that is if you begin to relax the sanctions between north and south, there will be no more north. and if there is no more north, china is not going to be happy with the peninsula. abby: the power in that reasonable. you are exactly right. china is the most important player. continues to be when it comes to north korea. steve: sure. they are pulling this stuff out of thin air. none of these were problems until yesterday probably because kim jong un got to feel like he has still got some skin in the game. we will talk to white house press secretary sarah sanders live at 7:30 this morning about that. abby: yesterday if you were watching the president 37th national peace memorial honoring law enforcement that have lost their lives in the line of duty. he took that opportunity to double down on our borders and securing our borders, protecting this country and talking about ms-13 and taking back control of our streets. here is a bit of what he said. >> calling on congress to secure our borders, support our border agents, stop sanctuary cities, and shut down policies that release violent criminals back into our communities. we don't want it any longer. we've had it. enough is enough. recently ms-13 gang members called for the assassination of new york city police officers. so the gang could, quote take back the streets. we are the ones who are taking back the streets. brian: so the president was able to link. he was moved by the loss of lives in law enforcement on that day. and you saw him being moved by when the officers came up and talked about those lost in battle, others wounded. he linked it up to ms-13. what we have noticed over the last few years is that it seems like the war on terror is with our cops because the attacks are happening here. guess what else is happening? annual attack on law enforcement while we're also asking them to stop ms-13 and gangs at our border. however, i also think it's important to point out that the president sat down with paul ryan during the day and said legislatively you have got to get something done. and he goes there is at least three republicans and ivan get more who are pushing for a daca fix along with some type of other immigration reform before this congress is through, which is reasonable because republican could very well lose power in six months. steve: you've got to keep in mind while the president can do certain things with the administration, it's ultimately congress that changes the law. we did hear attorney general of the united states jeff sessions about two weeks ago, and he said that going forward at the suggestion of the president and the administration, that illegals would be prosecuted who come into this country, including those who were caught trying to bring in children. and then also yesterday, in front of the senate homeland security committee, dhs secretary kirstjen nielsen was there. she got into back and forth with the senator from california regarding the fact that how could the united states of america heartlessly rip children out of the arms of their mothers? this is some of the back and forth. >> your agency will be separating children from their parents. >> no. what we'll be doing is prosecuting parents who have broken the law just as we do every day in the united states of america. >> can i appreciate that. but if that parent has a 4-year-old child, what do you plan on doing with that child? >> the child, under law, goes to hhs for care and custody. >> they will be separated from their parent. >> just like we do in the united states every day. >> so kirstjen nielsen. of course this is emotional it's heart-breaking stories it's about following the law. if you care so much about the families and emotional side, what about the families that have lost someone that they love because of illegal immigrants and criminals in this country. steve: she mentioned kate steinle as an example of one of many. she was on laura ingle's show last night. this is what she said about this. >> as you know i had exchange last week with a different senator and said i know this is your philosophy. i said it's not a philosophy. it's the law. if you enter our country illegally we will refer you for prosecution. we will prosecute you. as you know for every sob story we have 73% border assault increase. we have people like kate steinle? if i'm going to travel into the united states illegally, i'm probably going to avoid those towns because they actually turned me over. >> yeah. i do. i do. but i think you know, what's probably equally as important what is the message to the people who elected us? >> yeah. i thought this woman, look, on the scale of thing as nun joke isn't that high. in the sense we have got christians being beheaded overseas and churches burnt down. this isn't such a big deal. not about hating on jimmy kimmel but this woman has put the needs of others at the center of her life and lived this rich, full life and keeps this school going. she deserves more than to be the laugh line of late night tv. brian: what has been the feeling among the parents who send their kids to that story or among the graduates who know her? >> yeah. i think, i mean in some ways, look, again, it's not about hating on jimmy kimmel, i don't think he intended any harm. and in some ways it may be this is a way to bring her story out in the public. if he hadn't done that i wouldn't have written the column. and i'm hearing from a lot of people, some that know sister pat and some that know sister pats in their own life. these people who have sacrificed everything to put the needs of others before their own. brian: what has been her reaction? does she even know who jimmy kimmel is. >> i'm not sure she knows. i'm sure she doesn't give it a moment's thought. she is just too busy. this proves that the school, you know, it is based on discipline, which comes from the latin to instruct. it's really built on love. i think that's what the people, the people who know sister pat know that this is an enterprise of love. love is not hallmark. love is being there for the girl that gets pregnant. for the girl that has drug problem. the girl who lost her mom to cancer. that's what love is. and that's the promise that sister makes to these girls. i can't protect you from all of life's trials and tribulations. but you will never hurt alone. brian: so you wrote this column, and the response has been overwhelming because in the #me too movement should we really be ridiculing someone how they look? >> again, it's a little joke but there is a rich life and a human being behind. this and the human being who has done extraordinary things. i mean, she was held up because she is not fashionable. her clothing is dismissed as a line from j.c. penneys. her clothe something a statement that i have more hire priorities than the world and fashion and so forth. it's about the denial of self to serving others. there are generations of women that have benefited. i mean, we drop our kids off as girls to sister pat, you know, unsure, unformed. and four years later they walk out strong, confident women. brian: and to see her mocked bothered you? ♪ ♪ >> make no mistake. hamas is pleased with the results from yesterday. i ask my colleagues here in the security council who among us would accept this type of activity on your border? no one would. no country in this chamber would act with more restraint than israel has. in fact, the records of several countries here today suggest they would be much less restrained. those who suggest that the gaza violence has anything to do with the location of the american embassy are sorely mistaken. rather the violence comes from those who reject the existence of the state of israel in any location. steve: there have you got the united states ambassador to the united nations nikki haley yesterday at an emergency session of the security council called for by the country of kuwait after 60 palestinians were killed a day before in this stand off between gaza and israel. alan dershowitz was actually in gaza last week. he also met with benjamin netanyahu the last couple of days. and he joins us live from tel aviv. professor, thank you very much for joining us. you know, israel has been painted by the media as have been the aggressor in this. >> well, that's the hamas tactic. it's called the dead baby strategy. you use children and women. you deliberately put them on the front lines. you make it impossible for israel to defend itself without occasionally killing a woman or child or elderly person. every time israel accidently kills somebody like that. israelis grieve. israel loses. hamas cheers and celebrates because that's exactly what they want. they want the media to show the body count. they want the media to show the dead baby even though israel tried everything in its power to avoid civilian casualties. ambassador haley was absolutely correct when she said that every one of those deaths is attributeddable to hamas and every country in the western world would have done exactly the same. i was down there in gaza. i met with people and i met with the soldiers. they are terrified about 40,000 people with arms and with molotov cocktails breaking down the fence. murdering israeli children. taking hostages and taking people who they can then exchange for prisoners. israel did exactly what america is doing and the world ought to condemn a, hamas and also the media that incentivizes and encourages hamas to do this by reporting in such a biased manner. abby: unfortunately we see that all too often today with the media's reporting shows a much different reality from what's going on on the ground. you met about b. netanyahu as steve said. what did you two talk about yesterday. what did he say? >> well, he is desperately trying to figure out ways to reduce the number of casualties because he knows and everybody knows that every time israel inadvertently kills an innocent person, it loses. it loses the moral high ground. it loses among its own people. and, yet, the media encourages this and he is trying to develop nonlethal ways of doing this. and there are many in the works but they will take some time. we also talked about, you know, the iran deal, we talked about the moving of the embassy to jerusalem. i was there. it was a great event. the embassy should have been moved to jerusalem 70 years ago. every country but israel had the right to name its own capital. but for years america would not allow israel to name its own capital. finally they have done that and that was a good thing. brian: alan, there is a lot of people here, pretty stunned that they're criticizing ivanka for smiling during the opening of the embassy while there are riots on the gaza border. i find that unthinkable and totally distasteful that they would say you can't smile at this historic event when you are representing america? we thought it was completely spontaneous. >> well, we have to quote these newsmakers correctly and so every now and then the prompter gets a little rusty. steve: who knew? abby: good at it griff, thanks so much. brian: get some rest. see you next hour. abby: big picture here is kim jong un flexing big muscles, saying i'm going to push president trump to see how far i can go to see how much i can get away. brian: that's possible. on that john brennan quote what an embarrassment something as sensitive as this. that's what he does now. i think someone should sober him up and understand he should have a different role with his background. steve: just caught in a big lie. brian: he always seementsz to be the last one to know. maybe is he getting concerned because we are getting close to the truth about him and his career. think about this. there could be a myriad of reasons. they could be panicking because the president and mike pompeo and john bolton have been steadfast in saying only totally denuclearization could be what we need. in turn, entrepreneurs been consistent. when you come bang and pull out comments that you made almost verbatim in 2003, his dad did, about john bolton being the problem and comments on libya being the issue and military exercises on the books for 18 months being a reason to cancel a meeting with south korea, i sincsense that china behind the scenes is panicking about the prospect of you losing an ally right to their north. could have been something that happened last week. abby: losing their power in the region. that's something china cares about. steve: kim jong un, we heard in that interview with mike pompeo the other day, he wouldn't be surprised if kim jong un actually had watched that interview with chris wallace because he watches so much western media and there he is right there. but, when you look at the western media and it says, look, this guy gave up the missile test. is he dismantling his facilities over there, he gave up the hostages. donald trump is getting everything. at the last minute he has got to look like he is the strong man. what's he doing? he is threatening to cancel it did he exactly the same thing in january. just before the winter olympics. the north and south were going to unify for a musical number and in the run-up they, at the last minute though. they did go ahead. he went through and sent his sisters to the olympics and olympics continued with a unified korea. this is just some noise. we are going to talk to sarah huckabee sanders about it. she will be with us 20 minutes from now. brian: absolutely noise. but you have to wonder who is pulling the strings behind it because we never got to the bottom of a solid reason why we even got to this point f i knew why we were at this point i would know why he is pulling back. steve: china is pushing -- brian: i would add this to it. the president not tweeting is one of the smartest things. just stay out of it for now. let the diplomats handle it at lower level. the president gets in on it too aggressively with the misinterpretation. the whole thing could blow up. steve: there is going to be a tweet. you watch. brian: i think it will be a measured tweet. abby: president trump set up expectation saying if they are not going to follow through, we are going to walk away from the deal, walk away from the negotiating table. steve: heather nauert said let's not get ahead of ourselves. abby: there is a lot going on arounded world nic at this haley spoke about violence going on hamas and israel. she stood her ground about how israel is handling all of this. here is what she said. make no mistake. hamas is pleased with the result from yesterday. i ask my colleagues here in the security council, who among us would accept this type of activity on your border? no one would. no country in this chamber would act with more restraint than israel has. in fact, the records of several countries here today suggest they would be much less restrained. those who suggest that the gaza violence has anything to do with the location of the american embassy are sorely mistaken. rather, the violence comes from those who reject the resistance of the state of israel in any location. brian: yeah. she was brilliant. she walked out with the palestinian authority spokesperson spoke. they are condemning her. i say. this nobody wants to see a child dead or 60 people lose their lives. steve: there she goes. brian: there she is leaving. i would say. this if you are a parent and know there is rioting at the border. why are you bringing your kid there number one. can you show some restrangt at that moment? i don't care how fervent you believe israel should not exist. any time you see hamas and you see democrats or people that just hate trump side with hamas over israel and the president, that shows the desperation. this is a positive story, long promise you had senator schumer. instead their heart goes out to hamas. abby: we had professor dershowitz on. he has been over there all week. he went to the opening of the embassy. he met about b. netanyahu. they spoke yesterday. he visited the gaza border. he called it the dead baby strategy. this is a way that hamas is making themselves look like the victims. here's what he told us. >> that's the hamas tactic. it's called the dead baby strategy. you make it impossible for israel to defend itself without occasionally killing a woman or a child or an elderly person and every time israel scentlely kills somebody like that, israelis grieve, israel loses. hamas cheers and celebrates because that's exactly what they want the world ought to condemn a, hamas and also the media that incentivizes and encourages hamas to do this by reporting in such a bias you had manner. steve: the reason why nikki was in front of the united nations kuwait called for emergency session after 60 palestinians were killed. kuwait says they want a resolution protecting the palestinians. but, that will not include peace-keeping troops. so they want a resolution. they want to make israel look bad. but, when it comes to the blue helmets, they don't want them. abby: what do you think of all of this? >> well, and, as you heard from lisa breapsd, her daughter brandy was her daughter. and brandy was 18 years old. she was beautiful. she had her whole life in front of her. within 18 months of after being pain pills she was dead. her father found her on her grandfather's couch. it's horrific. can i tell you 1500 stories like that. we have got to hold these people accountable. the distributers, despite warnings, despite knowing not verifying where they were flooding these millions of drugs into our state did you nothing. they had been levied fines. perdue had been fined $600 million in 2017. yet, they continue to do. this and it must stop. again, we will continue settlement negotiations. they have got to step up to the plate and we're fully prepared in florida to litigate and hold them responsible to protect the lives of citizens of florida and throughout our country, abby. abby: i know a lot of families are grateful for the work. the administration is fighting it as well u it's a fight that we should all be stepping up to fight. great to have you on pam bondi. >> thank you, abby. abby: coming up, president trump honoring the family of a new york city detective. the children of detective will join us live about that. stick with us. what? >> right. he wasn't. >> i don't think he was. steve: genesis, what happened? why did he decide to bring you up? >> well, he was in his speech he was talking about other officers whose stories also stood out. and then when he got to my mom, he was talking about how she was ambushed and all of the tragic events that surrounded her death. and then when he pointed us out in the crowd. he said where is the familia family. we waived and stood up and he invited us up on the stage. it was really unexpected but also very exciting. and just really amazing. to be able to be up on stage like that and having my whom'mymom's heroism recognizedy the president of the united states was very important. steve: absolutely. you will never forget it peter, i know it was your first trip to washington. >> yes. steve: we sought image. you were there with your mother's mother, grandma was there as well. what a moment. peter, what did it mean for you to have the president of the united states salute your mother? >> um, it was really like -- i was really honored because that was my mother. and like the fact that the president of the united states even mentioned my mother's name is really incredible. i'm pretty honored that he called us to be with them on stage. steve: delilah, we have an image of your mom on tv right now. tell us about her. >> so she is a police officer. she was like really strong. and she was very fiery but it wasn't like too strong and really wonderful and brave and, yeah. and her smile was like really infectious and, yeah. steve: we heard so many good stories about her since she was killed in the line of duty. genesis, i know that the tunnel to tower foundation heard about your story and they wanted to make sure that you kids could continue to live in your neighborhood and you wouldn't have the twins wouldn't have to change school. they presented you with the money for the condo to live as long as you like. >> yeah. steve: how important was it to be around other families yesterday who have gone through exactly the same thing? i know you have probably in the last year or so felt like you are so alone but there were so many families there in washington yesterday who have been in your shoes. they knew exactly how you felt. >> well, it was really bittersweet because everyone around us, everyone who was there at the event yesterday, 9/11 some way, shape, or form, were kind of in the same body. because of the experience that we -- like because of the experience of loss that we felt. and it was also very comforting as well knowing that other people can have similar experiences that i have and know what we are going through. we didn't feel so alone. we are all mourning a fellow officer that was so near and dear to us. steve: surely. genesis, before we go, if the president of the united states were to talk to you today, what would you say to him about yesterday? >> look, as the president has said time and time again, we're ready to meet and if it happens, that's great. and if it doesn't, we will see what happens. we're still hopeful that the meeting will take place and we'll continue down that path. at the same time we know that we have been prepared that these could be tough negotiations. the president is ready if the meeting takes place. and if it doesn't, we will continue the maximum pressure campaign that's been ongoing. brian: how would you characterize the president's reaction to this back step making up some problems with military exercises that have been on the books coming up with comments about john bolton that's been set back in 2003. what was the president's reaction when some of this stuff started coming out? >> look, the president is the toughest negotiator around. he is prepared to go through this process. his team is prepared to go through this process. and this is not something that is out of the ordinary in these types of operations. the president's fully prepared and full namely ready to carry on in these conversations leading up to and if the meeting takes place. he will be ready. >> why we need some people in these rolls in the administration. gina haspel, the senate intel committee voting on her today. we know she has made the rounds up on the hill. sent a personal letter to mark warner. it sounds like she has the votes she needs, sarah. >> it looks great. we are very optimistic. we think obviously gina haspel is the most qualified and credible person that you could find to runt cia. we're excited about her taking the hymn as th how many e director of this agency. full floor vote taking place the next couple of days. we are very confident and optimistic people are putting national security and the safety and security of americans ahead of partisan politics. several democrats have come out and said they will support gina haspel. we think that's a great thing because she is a great candidate to run the cia and we are excited about her taking over and moving forward in this process. steve: we heard from the president doing a tweet a couple days ago about the leaks in the white house. you know, it all goes back to rough comment that a member of the white house staff made about john mccain and then there was a leak about that. you had a meeting with the team about leaks and that got leaked. i think five times to jonathan swan over at axios. what is going on at the white house because it looks like the president can't even trust his own staff. >> look, i can tell you there are a couple of bad actors. i think it is disgusting and some of the most shameful behavior that you could ever engage. in it's an honor and privilege to work for the president and to be part of his administration. anybody who betrays that, i think is a total and complete coward and they should be fired. we fired people over leaking before. i have personally fired people over leaking before. and we certainly would be very willing to do so again. but, again, this is one of the greatest opportunities of a lifetime to get to work and serve for president trump. and it's something that is sacred for somebody to allow to you have that opportunity and we take it seriously. steve: sarah, why do they do it? are they trying to stab other staff members in the back? are they trying to advance their political agenda? are they trying to set the record straight? what the heck is going on? >> think think there are probably a number of reasons. some of these leaks are made up and reporters search for validation for them. look, there is definitely something that has to be addressed. we are focused intensely on addressing it. and we take an extremely seriously. as i just said, i can't answer why people do it because i don't engage in it because i find it to be some of the most disgusting behavior that you could ever participate in and one of the most disloyal things that you could do as entrusted member of the president's team. we have big things happening here decisions with north korea. we are talking about iran. we have moved the embassy, the president is growing the economy. creating jobs. we just got the 21st circuit judge nominated and cleared the senate yesterday. amazing and big things are happening. that's what our administration should be focused on. that's what our team should be focused on. and what we would like -- the news frankly to be covering. there are all these big things happening. that's what they should be covering as well. it's a complete disservice to the american people that they spend so much time on a comment made in a private meeting versus the comments that are made on a public stage that are literally changing the course of human history that this president is engaged in. that is what the media should be focused on and i hope they will spend a little bit more time over the next weeks leading up to the summit to do exactly that. abby: do you think we can expect an apology from that aide, kelly sadler? meghan mccain is a friend of mine. i know the way they left it they spoke on the phone and meghan mccain said she would appreciate a public apology. a lot of people are waiting for that to happen. should we now expect that not to happen? >> i'm not going to get into the back and forth on this. i think it's been addressed. we are dealing with this matter internally. again, i think we should be focused -- a. abby: why the strategy to not come out publicly and say you know what? i was wrong. let's move on? >> she has personally apologized. again, i don't think we should continue to validate leaks that come out by making that the focus of what we are doing. i think there are some incredible things that this president is doing that literally has massive global impacts. and i think that's what we we should be talking about. brian: i would have trouble even expressing my thoughts knowing that somebody on my own team could be leaking that to the press. doesn't overlook and overshadow all the other people that are loyal to the president that work with him every day. and i imagine you're one of them. now, i have got to ask you the "wall street journal" today had this front page story about nafta. in the back drop the president has always said i want to update this deal that's over 20 years old. word is now it's going not going to get done this year. we know the speaker of the house said if you want this passed, i need it by next week. what happened? >> well, look, we are still in ongoing negotiations. the president is committed though to making sure that we do something better. he doesn't want to just continue on the status quo. that's the easy thing to do. brian: is mexico the problem, sarah or is canada the problem or both? >> look, we have got to get a deal that works for everybody. but, most importantly, this president is going to make sure that we get a deal that works for america. he is tired of getting taken advantage of by country after country when it comes to trade and he is going to make sure that we get a good deal that helps people in this country and that we're on a level playing field. and he is not going to stop until he gets it i have think you know this president is the toughest negotiator at the table. and he is going to make sure he gets something that works. you. brian: use the old deal until we bet the new dealenned that's not working, right? >> again, the president is willing to tear up the nafta agreement if that's what it comes to. we still want to see something happen and we're going to continue in those conversations. they are ongoing now. and we are pushing forward and hopeful we can get something done soon. steve: you will get something done today. i know the president is going to host a number of officials from anti-sanctuary cities and counties and things like that. this morning we had the on the mayor of loi los alamitos. he said the message in these towns and counties stand up against sacramento which instituted circumstantially the sanctuary state of california is forget about that, we're not thinking about that, we're thinking about us actually enforcing the laws of the united states of america. we're a law and order town. >> absolutely. i couldn't agree with you more. we have to enforce the laws that are on the books. people don't get to decide. cities don't get to pick and choose which laws they want to follow. just because it's california doesn't mean you get to decide that you don't want to participate in our government and in our system. and you have to follow the law that is on the books. and we're very thankful that there are a number of mayors and county commissioners, et cetera, that are standing up to some of the others and saying enough is enough like this is not what our state needs. it's not what our state wants and we are glad they are going to be here and be part of that discussion later this afternoon. brian: i'm sure you know because the president had a big meeting yesterday about immigration and trying to get daca back on the books. trying to get democrat and republican support to try to look at daca deal again. what could you tell us about the president's stance on this? >> the president has been very clear on what he wants to see when it comes to an immigration package. he wants to close the loopholes. he wants to secure the border. and he is willing to do something on daca but we have to fix the problem. we can't just kick the can down the road. we have to secure the border. brian: republican lawmakers coming up with their plan. how do you feel about what they are doing? does the president support these three republicans or not? >> look, we will see what that comes out to look like. at the same time, the president has not wavered and he has been extremely clear on what the priorities and what the principles are that he wants to see when it comes to any piece of immigration legislation. abby: sarah, how is melania doing? >> she is doing very well. she is in very good spirits. the president was able to go back to walter reed yesterday and visit with her and she ask that everybody continues to keep her in your prayers. but she is one of the toughest people you will find and she is doing great and in good spirits. thank you for asking. steve: the plan is for her to be released in the numbers couple of days? time to pump the brakes on four year colleges and instead invest in skills to get a job? isaac more house is the founder and ceo of practice, a professional program for those who want to launch a career without college and he is being touted as the next generation's mike rowe. isaac, good morning to you. >> hey, good morning, thanks for having me. steve: okay. so you make a good point. if you want a good job, maybe you don't go to college. maybe you simply learn a skill. how do you do that? >> yeah. i mean, i think skills and experience are vastly superior to, you know, basically a dead piece of paper in a college degree. the thing you want to do is get the best professional experience you can as early as possible and, you know, to get your foot in the door, what we do at practice is we use apprenticeship as a model to do it. a lot of people are familiar with that with things like welding or sort of skilled trades but we're actually using the apprenticeship model in the professional round. startups in things like operations and sales and marketing roles. so, apprenticeship, come in at that sort of entry level is a great way to get your foot in the door and start building that experience. abby: i could not agree with you more. not everyone needs to go to a four year college. better for the person and better for this country to be competitive in the 21st century. the other side of that though is the companies that are hiring how do you convince them to hire people without degrees? >> you know, it's funny. if you just look at job postings. they often say degree required. and a lot of the jobs that we're placing people in also say that but we're getting people in there without degrees. and what we have learned is that when companies say that they are kind of using that as a proxy hey you need to have some base level of skills and competence. if you can, as a young person, find a way to prove that, without a degree, you know, if you create a project that demonstrates some sort of skill that you have and you can show that hey, look at what i built, people aren't even going to ask about the degree. it f. they have seen something that's more impressive already, then they're not going to ask or even care anymore. i think if you start thinking in terms of okay, employers want problems solved. they want me to create value. what's a way that i can prove that and you focus on that. you find out pretty quickly the degree is actually kind of a weak way to prove that compared to some of the other things you can do. abby: we need more of this. steve: is he wearing a p. on his shirt because his company is called praxis. isaac morehouse thank you for joining us live. >> this is my super hero outfit. steve: a customer attacked at cheesecake factory for making america great again hat? >> listen, you expected something toe happen, right? it wasn't going to be smooth sailing to june 12th. north korea does not have a great history living up to promises. we'll see. i think they will probably get back on track. if history is any judge, once they go down this road, there is a lot of back and forth. they eventually get there. it is prepare just. it may not happen. brian: let me tell you what the north korean foreign minister said. with president trump continues to be, excuse me, says the country will not accept a u.s. deal that will force this country, their country to abandon its nuclear program in exchange for relaxation of economic sanctions. really? because we thought that is where we were going. >> obviously they're sweetening the ask. they're laying groundwork. i'm sure president trump in dealings that he has done understands that this is part of laying the groundwork for what they want. steve: sure. so far looks like president trump is getting more out of the deal than kim jong un. they have stopped with the missile tests. they released hostages. looks like they're taking apart their facility over there. >> part of that one is, part of it collapsed. steve: now it looks like they're taking it apart. >> they're not rebuilding it, in other words. i think, i think there is promising signs. china again is a key part of all of this. and that is another element of this negotiation. abby: brian brought this up earlier they had a meeting last week. you would love to be a fly on the wall behind the closed doors between china, north korea and obviously they're advising them how to handle all this china cares. they want it be the dominant power in that region. what do you think happened in that meeting and did that impact where we are now? >> i don't know. they're both in the midst of pushing back and trying to get what they want. this zte situation, we don't know what we don't know about negotiations between the u.s. and china. and who knows. north korea could look at that say, i would like a piece of that. i want something. brian: zte is electronics firm, telecommunications firm, accused of violating sanctions against north korea and iran and stealing a lot of intellectual property. we had them flat on their back. president looks like he could revive the company as part of a bigger trade deal. somehow that came up with this north create negotiation. let's parry with your other expertise. the mueller investigation is one-year-old. we have a lot of questions about the dossier and its role and john brennan's version of the role of the dossier, and others that have seen the fisa application and the role of the dossier including some of john brennan's colleagues. there is a contribution there. >> we heard from other lawmakers like gowdy, nunez, others, grassily, who think, and know this was a big part of the pitch. the dossier, i asked jim comey bit. brian: was oblivious. i don't really remember. >> didn't know who paid for it. didn't know hillary clinton's campaign and dnc were behind it. there is a lot more than we need to know that side of the equation. we don't know what we don't know on the mueller said. it could take months before we get to the bottom of it. steve: how about republican congressional investigators trying to find out who the special secret source who might have been in contact with the trump campaign back months before the president was elected. >> it's fascinating. i think we haven't seen the nuggets that tell us exactly who it is. >> you've had people on your show who suggested even then it looks like the fbi was trying to frame donald trump. >> the glenn simpson testimony suggests that they had somebody else and i have heard lawmakers saying they think they have a good idea but, i think we've got to follow that. brian: grassley sent a letter to simpson, are you standing by what you said, they had someone inside the trump campaign. the lawyer said again simpson stands by what he said. maybe he didn't want to look like a liar. talk about your brand new book, "three days in moskow," president reagan and and dealings with gorbachev that brought about an end to the soviet union. what is the in the book coming out that you never thought? >> the nuggets that are in here, the story, the detail, we found has not been out. oral histories. i interviewed a bunch of people secretary of state shults who is. brian: 500. >> he is 93. it's a moment, this final summit of four summits. i think we have a sound bite. ken duberstein was the chief of staff at the time. after the summit, after all the press and staff is leaving moscow on air force one, he describes that moment. >> as we took off on air force one from moscow the only time i was ever on air force one that everybody stood up including the press pool, and we sang god bless america led by the president. you talk about metric moments, that was one of them. reagan knew that we had hit a grand slam in moscow. steve: grand slam was the end of the cold war ultimately. >> eventually got there. the wall comes down under george h.w. bush but reagan was crucial how he handled those summits throughout to make it happen. abby: bret, when you look at a few years ago at time in history, the most recent government plane to leave moscow, were 60 government employees out of the embassy. were what do you make of it when it comes to our relationship with russia? >> for decades presidents tried to have a reset with russia. go back to eisenhower and khrushchev all along. it hasn't panned out. russia attacked us, reagan president of screen actors guild was fighting russia, soviet, union the, communism in hollywood. i don't think the relationship's great but there is still this hunger to try to make some kind of outreach. abby: your book is about change can be made that was such a powerful moment in our country's history. >> your dad knows this well in the heart of moment. abby: get some tips. brian: what stands out too infiltration we saw in the 2016 election. that isn't new. they have been trying to get through hollywood, through our political system, for 50, 60 years. they're doing it cyber now. >> what the administration is doing to push back, arming ukrainians, natural gas to eastern europe, sanctions, all that stuff getting overlooked. people are focused on what the president says or doesn't say about putin. brian: the blowback has been pretty strong including going after some of their oligarchs and they're feeling it. >> yeah. steve: what do you make of the parallels that, since you are writing this book that just came out yesterday, what do you make of the people who are drawing parallels between the way ronald reagan, rather the way that ronald reagan dealt with the world as opposed to the way that donald trump is taking on the world? >> sean asked me about this not surprisingly last night and he -- there is a moment where you look at this, and they both were polled about what they have said. we don't know what will happen with president trump and what will eventually come to pass but they were changing the paradigm. they were changing it up. heads in washington were exploding at tile of reagan. steve: outsiders come in. they can't do that. >> i don't think they're the same personalities. i don't say that in the book but i do in the last word kind of link the big speeches that president trump has given and they have echos of phrases and words that president reagan would have used in riyadh, in the united nations, in warsaw, poland. abby: the strength that this country does have. before we let you go we have a really important question for you. there is a audio clip tearing the internet apart. we'll play it for you. on the back side, tell us what you hear. steve: what word is this? is your take different? >> i didn't, i think my take is a little bit different. i don't think that really explains for me. i walked to the restroom with my girlfriend walking into the restroom and i as i was walking back, a whole group of people came out of the kitchen and just started shouting and yelling clapping things and saying things towards me as i was walking back to my seat. i ignored it. i could tell my girlfriend was uncomfortable. it was really wrong. steve: i understand you were booking when you were walking back. cheesecake said it was two of your employees. does that sound right or a bigger number. >> it was a bigger number. they had employees working there and couple other people just walking past disrespecting that. people that weren't even serving us. people walking by with plates and stuff being rude to us, just really disrespectful. steve: seems so crazy, eugene. here you are, mother's day one of the happiest days of year. >> that is what i expected t was mother's day. i thought, if there is any day to wear the hat it is mother's day. a happy day. abby: you dean, what makes the country great we can wear sits and hat you clearly support president trump. what do you like about him? >> i love donald trump and he is just, what the country need. he is a true american. he really cares for the well being of america and he just, people would say what they want about him. everybody is entitled to their opinion. it's a free country. i think donald trump is like everything that we've all needed in this country. steve: what does it say to you about people who are so narrow-minded they can not respect you for wearing a hat that might be different than their political point of view? >> i'm glad the president is doing this every one knows california is completely out of control but there is this little conservative bass stun on the border that is san diego county. the county voted to join the federal lawsuit suing the state against these policies. there is city in the county, escondido who has heavily immigrant mayor and population, fighting sanctuary policies. so encouraging to see the president meeting with local leaders, who just want as sara said, order at the border and some sanity to our laws. steve: i was going to say, mike, we had the mayor of los alamitos going to the white house. come and tell us a story what is going on in your town. his story was going to be the fact that we are trying to respect the law of the land. the laws will be enforced in lowe's -- los alamitos destate what pals up in sacramento have to say. >> there have been 800 illegal immigrants from our jails, and 350 were released without telling i.c.e. they are released which means though go back into our communities. this is what frustrates me, democrats get credit for being compassionate. but they're not. the i.c.e. operation, were recently looking for 400 illegal criminal immigrants. they found 110 them, many were not on the original list. they are collateral arrests. they go knock on the door looking for illegal criminal and there are three other law-abiding illegal immigrants that they round up and support. democrats are putting all other people at risk, all we want to do find people released from jail already and deport them. abby: all right. brian: mike, in particular there is something else going on and people seem to be getting it backwards in my humble opinion, that is the historic move of our embassy to jerusalem from tel aviv. at the same time this is happening there are palestinians rioting at the border, at the fence. 60 lots of their lives during this, including a couple of children, you have to wonder about parents bringing children to a riot, but how do you explain the way media has taken hamas' side? >> it is really shameful. i love the clip you played of alan dershowitz calling the dead baby strategy. it is such a shame. you have a really lifted perspective to lift upham mass terrorists as victims here. let me say one thing about this in general. there is a lot of groups of people around the world that want their own state. the kurds and the tibetans come to mind. the kurds and tibetans have a greater claim to statehood than the palestinians. they don't get a bunch attention. why not? they're not a bunch of terrorists or killing people to get attention like the palestinians are. so every time the media lifts up these terrorist actions they're only encouraging more. now we're hearing news maybe this nine-month-old had passed away had unrelated illnesses it wasn't related to tear gas. israel has the right to again itself from terrorists period. abby: speaking of media, viewers, big fans of "roseanne" of abc being set up for a season two and we're hearing it will be less political next season. it will be more family-oriented. listen to some of the best moments from last season. >> i should have tried to gnat why you voted the crazy way that you did.
