So when you think about the amount of people that are now utilizing these things would have got to get a handle on it case we have to get away from typical government bureaucratic process and talk to the tech leaders and drone experts that really know how to counter that and talk to the guys in silicone valley that understand how to build the software to help manage it. The funny part about that is that on this list of imminently qualified women there are Democratic Women who are far less qualified than the republican counterparts. Where is senator Susan Collins who has been in congress for more than 20 years . Where is Condoleezza Rice . Where is any republican female governor, kim rendle, for example. Where is Carly Fiorina . This is a pattern that we are seeing conservative females excluded from the conversation about political leadership. Abby good question. One thing if no republican women in politics but you named some of them, alli. Nikki haley. Joan ernest. Susanna martinez. There are strong republican women that are already serving. Why cant they politics it up and get both sides of the aisle . Republican women are under represented in the media. More importantly, they are under represented in government. There are real policy implications for that republican women are often really important moderating influence on their party. If you look at what is happening right now, if we didnt have republican senator Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski the Republican Party would have already taken away healthcare from 22 Million People. We need to encourage those voices, not discourage them. But i think there is a simple explanation for the cosmo article. It was about who is generating buzz in 2020. There arent any republicans, male or female generating buzz in 2020 because we have sitting republican president. Abby there are a lot of young conservative women though that would support those policies, right . You have got people from both sides of the aisle. Women go democrat and they are republican. I cant help but think, alli about, you know, Melania Trump and ivanka trump and how, you know, when michelle olbermann was in office she was on the cover of almost every single magazine. I dont see melania, for example, really anywhere. I cant help but think about the choices that magazines are making for women, right . Yes. Absolutely. And i think that would be true if this was just one isolated article that listed the women that they wanted to be president , simply because they thought that they were the best people for the job. That would be one thing. However, this article is indicative of the sentiment of what it seems like to be the vast majority of the left in general. That you cannot be for progress. You cannot be a strong woman. And you cannot be in leadership unless you are prochoice democrat. What we see is that we have a party who increasingly exclusive. Plenty of woman not just conservatives but middle of the road feel like theyre being pigeon holed manipulated into one ideological way and seat hypocrisy that the democrats claim to be the Tolerant Party and party of defendant. Im running on a 10 across the board cut in our individual income tax rates that would create over 53,000 good paying private sector jobs. Thats 25 increase over current projection. It also means in terms of disposable income for the average family of four in virginia between the increased jobs and more take home pay and the tax relief, it would mean for the average family of four nearly 1,300 annually in disposable income. You know from, my perspective, virginia should not be punished for being a fiscally responsible state. We did not accept the Medicaid Expansion or enact the Medicaid Expansion here in the commonwealth. I do believe we should protect people who have preexisting conditions from being denied coverage. When they first enter the marketplace and we have got to bring down costs. So, im hopeful that they can do that. Im not surprised because we are going about learning about the russia connection if there was any in a wrong way. We are subjecting it to a criminal investigation behind locked doors in front of a grand jury. Not what we should have been doing. We should have had an independent commission much like the 11 commission to inquire as to what happened. Not to suspect crime immediately and to accuse people of crime. We accuse people of crime, much too quickly in this country. We ought to find out what happened. It doesnt matter if you are a democrat or a republican, a liberal or conservative. If the russians try to tamper with the election in any way, we have to know that we have to pass laws preventing it for the future. But accusing people of crime and suggesting that there was collaboration without any information is not the right way to get the information that we need to prevent problems in the future. Abby right. Where does it russian collusion story sit right now . It seems like this is another set back. We have been covering this for months and months and months. There is still no there there. How would you describe where we are in this investigation . How we should be thinking about it. Its very, very clear. We dont know. Why dont we know . Because the investigation being conducted a, behind closed doors, and, b, released selectively by leaks. Both things that shouldnt be happening. This should be transparent. It should be out in the open. Every american should know what the status of the investigation is. Its exactly the wrong approach. Abby even if it were out in the open. You look how the media handled this story we are reporting right now thats not a good headline to show just four u. S. Intel agencies support that claim with russian collusion. So, even if it were out in the open, do you believe the media would report it correctly . Well, at least some media would get it right. But by having it leaked selectively, thats where you get this misinformation all the time. Leaks information when it serves the interest of the fbi to leak the information. The director of the fbi didnt have the courage to come forward and say he wants a special counsel appointed. He went behind the back of everybody went to a columbia law professor and laundered the information in order to get the results he wanted to achieve. Thats fbi think. Thats not the way things ought to happen in this country. Clayton allen, i want to get your take on the president s travel badge. We saw what the Supreme Court did this week and basically allowed it to resume until they can take it up. Now democrats are filing a lawsuit in sort of an effort to halt the travel ban. With they really go around the Supreme Court in this situation . Give us the legal side of this. No. The Supreme Court was very clear that they were going to essentially make a distinction between people who have a bonafide connection of the United States and people that dont. Now, they didnt say specifically what they meant by bonafide connection to the United States. So, to the extent the lawsuit intends to clarify that, its a responsible lawsuit. To the extent that it tries to get lower courts to undercut what the Supreme Court said, then its not an appropriate lawsuit. And i think the courts will slap it down. Look, right now, we have to waited until october. The oral argument, to see whether the Supreme Court actually takes the case. You remember, the travel ban expires on its own within 90 and 100 days. Thats before the Supreme Court would hear argument. If they do hear argument, i think they will uphold the travel ban as it relates to people that have no connection to the United States and might tamper with it a little bit or tinker with it a little bit when it comes to people who have connections. Obviously, there is a distinction between somebody who has a green card and somebody who has never been to the country and wants to visit. Abby always a sound voice. One of the ways that we are looking at this race and the dynamics of it are what we call pivot counties. Counties across the country, 206 of them voted twice for barack obama and then voted for donald trump. Pete interesting. Senator in maine comes from a state where half of the voters are living in pivot counties. This is the northern two thirds of the state. The rural counties, the people that felt like they were left behind. The very people who gave one Electoral College vote in maine to donald trump. They are going to be concerned about this bill. I want to put this in the proper perspective again. 5 of the votes nationwide were cast in pivot counties. Very small section of the electorate. Accounted for 51 of all republican gains. So they have the potential to change states. In fact, they are the reason that donald trump won a state like michigan where senator debbie stable now is up for reelection. She went with 59 of the vote the last time. Then again, this was a state that donald trump pulled a big upset. If the pivot county voters dont like the messages they are hearing from these candidates, they could be in trouble. One of the biggest is Tammy Baldwin in wink. She is in a state that none of us expected donald trump to carry on election night. Pete part of that blue wall that broke. A state that perhaps broke because Hillary Clinton couldnt find it on a map and make the trip there. Pete that always helps. That always helps. But this is a state that has about 18 or 17 of the voters living in pivot counties. Places again looking for change. They are very open to hearing the ideas about kates law, about protecting america, about enforcing the rule of law. And they want somebody who will stand up for them. Another part of this state is a group of counties that are solidly republican now because of scott walker. That state has changed a since the 2012 election. Pete very instructive because a bill like this which does make common sense would be attractive to Trump Supporters. Democratic candidates so locked in resistance they cant vote for it you are saying this could really have consequences with the 10 Democratic Senators. They better think twice about a vote like. This if we are being honest, i suspect it will not get the 60 votes, but this becomes a phenomenal Campaign Issue for the president to drive home in 2018 in support of a Republican Senate campaign. Pete really interesting. Since they are 0 for 4 so far in special elections. Gubernatorial race in virginia next year so far doesnt look good when you just resist. You have got to do more than resist. The democrats need to find a message. Special rejections are overrated for predictability. Pete fair enough. Great under estimation of how firm these Trump Supporters are. Also important to remember that one out of six americans are unhappy with donald trump who is in the white house. The people that go to the polls and vote. The people that decided on trump as our next president. Tell us what the Mainstream Media is missing about their voice on this. Well, you know, part of the problem is theyre stuck in this bubble in dc and new york. They have their own different reality. Most of the American People are out there living their lives, realizing that donald trump is speaking their language in many ways. Hes addressing their concerns. So, you know, theyre thrilled that somebodys actually punching back. I mean, ive been in dc a long time, and you actually have a republican now thats willing to say im not going to sit there and take it. Im going to punch back, and i think the medias still stunned that the president is willing to push back on their fake news. I mean, we just saw that tweet thats just had a few minutes ago that the amazing part about all of this is yet jake tapper was out in l. A. Last weekend speaking to the l. A. Press club saying, oh, weve got to be squeaky clean. We shouldnt be seen as the opposition and the resistance. And on friday as part of his show, he uses a fake National Enquirer cover as part of his coverage. So the amazing thing that donald trump has the ability to do is to be able to call these people out and say youre saying one thing when the fact the facts are completely different. So a lot of his supporters are thrilled, and i would say im thrilled. Im happy with about 88 of what he does on twitter. And the reason i say that is in june, he had about 160 tweets. Over 120 of them were about his administration. All the positive things taking place and him being able to talk about that. Less than 20 of them were about media bias and pushing back. So when i look at what he does on twitter, he has a very powerful weapon. Itsa very powerful tool, and i like about 90 of what hes doing. So the other 10 , of course this week about Mika Brzezinski and her face and all of that, do you think he should have tweeted that . Well, first of all, he elevated people that shouldnt have been elevated. Leave them alone. Ignore them. Let them do their thing. Theyre never going to be your friends and support you. The second thing is catholic women did not like that tweet. He needs the catholic women to vote for him to get reelected. So there were just a couple of things. The third thing that really was a little problematic is that it kind of stomped on his message. There were some phenomenal things that happened last week that were drowned out by that tweet. We had two great immigration pieces that passed congress. Kates law and a bill dealing with sanctuary city. And so the media spent 28 times more coverage on those tweets instead of talking about the immigration policy. So but you know the thing that i want to see, guys . I want him to take his social media to the next level. He has 107 social media follows by the time you combine all of them. He has the ability i like him to see 21st century fireside like Facebook Live using facebook and things like that . Exactly. Get a camera i would actually like to see him get a camera in there with a teleprompter, do Live Streaming and inform the media im going to be Live Streaming from the oval office talking about all the great things my administration is doing. Youre more than welcome to tap into that live stream but have the ability to go around the media, speak directly to the American People and inform them, hear all of the wonderful things that the media doesnt want to talk about. So i had two gay gentlemen come in one day and ask me to make a cake for their same sex wedding, and i politely tried to say i could not do because of my faith. When they screamed at me and flipped me off and stormed out of my shop, they sued me, i lost, now here we are at the Supreme Court. Abby jack, you and kristen both were very brave to go on a show that had few pigeons. The view. Lets hear that. They want the cake, theyre having a party, all dressed up with their sheets. That sounds like something that would be discouraging and, no, that would not happen. And you would say, no, i would not. What do you believe jesus would have done in that situation . It is important to us, and i think they tried their best to be fair and have a civil dialogue. And this point about jesus making the cake, i would make the point that thats what this case is about if someone wants to make the cake because their religious belief, they should have the right to do that. Loys, jack should have the right to speak his messages and create his artistic expression thats consistent with his belief. And thats what the First Amendment protects. Well, jack, you said youre not judging the poom in your store. Youre not judging their lives. Youre just exercising their freedom of speech, freedom of religion, conscious as a private business. And ultimately, thats what youre hoping is upheld in this case, i would imagine. Thats correct. If i were judging the people, i wouldnt allow them in my store. But as it is, i would sell them any of the products that i have. Its just the event is whats in question here that i dont want to make the cake. Be compelled to make a cake for something, a religious event that goes against my religious faith. Abby what is the response them from people in your community, your friends. What have they said to you about this, jack, about all of this and where you fall in all of it . Its almost entirely supportive. People understand that this is a personal issue, one that affects them as well, that the government is trying to compel me to do something against my religious faith, and they want their rights protected as well. Pete kristen, where do you think the Supreme Court is going to come down on this . Well, i think the law in the First Amendment is well settled that all americans have the right to speak messages and to live consistent with their faith, and i think the court will affirm that. I think the court will see and have seen the fact that the bail has been pulled back in this case because in a similar situation, someone went in and got a cake tried to get a cake that had an antisamesex marriage theme and the same commissioner decided against jack said that in that case, they agreed with the message, and they upheld it and said it wasnt violating a law. But Hillary Clinton the debates talked about 17 intelligence agencies agreed that there was collusion that the russians had intervened in our election abby to help President Trump, spell. We heard that from a number of democrats across the board. Heres just a little bit of that. This has come from the highest levels of the russian government, clearly from putin himself in an effort as 17 of our intelligence agencies have confirmed to influence our election. 17 of our intelligence agencies. 17 intelligence agencies. 17 different United States intelligence agencies. The intelligence communities have concluded all 17 of them that russia interfered with the election. So weve got some corrections now. Pete first, the New York Times say 17. Who else had to look for it . Pete so the Associated Press, they also had to come out. They published stories june 6th, june 22nd, and 29th. And they reported that 17 intelligence agencies say russia tried to influence the election to benefit trump. That assessment was based on information collected by three agencies. The fbi, cia, and National Security agency and published by the office of the director of national intelligence, which represents the agency, not all 17 agencies were involved in the assessment. Abby that was retracted by the ap later on in the evening as it often is, so its buried before you begin your weekend. But, look, thats not a good headline to have to say just four u. S. Intel agencies support this. Its much easier to have a headline that says all 17. Thats why we saw democrats touting that over and over and over again. Absolutely. And i think were going to see even more democrats and members of the socalled media having to retract and pull back stories. Running after the sources. A lot of that is going to prove to be false as they havent found any evidence yet of russia collusion. I think a lot have gotten wrong. Also, 17 intelligence agencies . How many do we need . In order for it to become law, the Vice President would have to agree to it or a majority of the cabinet, none of which would happen, to gain majority in the house. So its never going to become law. But more support that than, say, voting for kates law. So are we not in a place where the party in washington is trying to discredit at all . I think the Democratic Party needs to establish at the point, to win elections and the state is also to win elections, and were not winning elections. So to answer your question, i would say we have a Party Leadership right now that many people find has been coming effective, old, whatever you want to call it, and a cheerleader issue, i guess. Cheerleading issue like this is certainly valuable to distract from some of the ineptitude that weve seen and for people who are actually paying attention like you and me, its frustrating because there is a lot that we could be doing to build the party, to find new, fresh faces, leaders, bring them up, but were not. Were relying on the same old, same old anywhere. Pete thats a pretty sensible analysis, indeed. But i want to ask you about the collusion between the Mainstream Media and the Democratic Party because theres been a lot of fake news exposed, a lot of criticism of this president , and a lot of it comes from the media. I want to play a tweet on the screen that President Trump put out just this morning. He said im extremely pete the Democratic Party and the socalled Mainstream Media, you acknowledge they are effectively colluding. I mean, i would say that the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are probably pitching the press today on stories about the Health Care Bill and stories about, you know, a number of issues that they see as priority that they need to get out there to the American People to the networks that trust the news. If the parties didnt communicate it all with the pres well, sure. It seems the other extreme of that would be counterproductive as well. Pete it somes only one side seems to get printed. So far special elections, as you have understanding dont go toward democrat. Do you have faith that the Democratic Party is going to learn anything at all, move away from this resist movement that has proven to be effective and actually run on something that relates the voters . Or are they going to continue to resist their way to 2018 and lose at the ballot box . I think that resistance is a popular brand, generally, amongst the far left in particular. But it doesnt have it has very, you know, sort of profoundly negative implications when it comes to, you know, moving on capitol hill. So resistance is great, its a great word, a great hashtag, but we need to find who ourselves are. Other than the guy who hates trump every day. And what that goes back to ultimately is the middle class, in my opinion. The Democratic Party the middle class used to identify with a Democratic Party overwhelmingly more than they identified with the Republican Party. Thats collapse over the last 30 years.
