well, it is simply because it is so hard to pass. people just aren't going through it i am. i am one of the people who applied. i have to have a special danger in order to apply. special danger means that you are personally being targeted. you have proof from a hospital that you have been injured or. >> look at what's required to demonstrate in washington. you have to fear injury to yourself and show a special such as evidence of specific threat or previous attacks. i don't want to get into you personally, but is that standard too high according to the lawyers for the gun rights advocates? >> exactly. i spoke to allen yesterday, he is the lawyer, the one who actually took the heller case to the supreme court, very familiar with this issue d.c. and gun rights. it's not abiding by the second amendment. judge over the summer when he made his ruling said the reason d.c. had to allow for some carry permits banning all carry permits is unconstitutional. the people he represents are going to take both the contempt issue and hopefully they are hoping that the city held in contempt and has to rewrite the law. >> as a final question, in some states they say once the process goes on they shall give you a permit. in washington, d.c. it says they may give you a permit. >> may. >> quickly that's become the stumbling block for a lot of people. >> exactly. that's what i think eventually the supreme court ask going to handle. six states and d.c. who have what you call as you said, quote, the may issue. in our case it's the police chief who may issue it. and the appeals courts are split on this. i think eventually it's going to the supreme court. >> yes or no, emily. do you think they are going to go to court contempt against washington, d.c.? it was unfortunately this idea of talking about racial issues is a positive one. the university made a critical mistake by telling students that they must look at their piers in peers inn. terms of characteristics instead of having an event promoting the respect and diligence of all people regardless of their race sexual orientation, they decided to instead have this members of a group instead of individuals which is poisoning academia and society. >> what unfolded in this event? from what i understand students are supposed to get together and talk about microaggressions. if they were asian american they were supposed to get together and explain what happened to them. take us through what actually unfolded at this thing? >> that's correct. the majority of this event has students break up and talk about these ideas of microaggressions. now, this is basically this concept that people -- that every day situations reflect the heart of racism. so but unfortunately this is basically of how this person feels after these interactions. there is no clear ideal what this really means. feelings are objective we are supposed to assume people have ill intent. how can we possibly get around this. >> didn't we hear about microaggression on harvard's campus as a result of soda streams being set up in college cafeteria? how do you prepare? >> expect everything. expect anything. they are very craivel. they will find a way to create a big play down the field for sure. main thing both these teams have to do is stop the run game. they will pack the box. they figure those corners can play those receivers outside and defend big running backs. >> you have issue with the formations in the end. you are in charge of the final drive. all of a sudden they are going out and we won't bore people with the details by pointing to the guys and saying the running back is ineligible. you as a coach just got to to know how to scheme against it the referees were relaying to you in ho is ineligible and eligible. the patriots knew there would be confusion and they bankd on that. is that fair? >> i think it's part of football. the main thing is that you count on the officials to give you a chance to operate. to find the eligible receivers and figure out how you are going to play the defense. that's what fair to the players. i don't think they did a great job of that they are trying to figure out still how to get that done and hopefully get it done sunday. >> your advice to pete carol is prepare for what you can't prepare for. something is going to happen unscripted. they like to push the rules. >> absolutely. everybody does. they will be ready for everything. anything can happen on or off the field and they have got to overcome it. >> pete carroll is on your ledger. you have to play him on sunday. how does john harbaugh prepare? what could you expect. >> i'm more worried about russell instead of carroll. carroll is going to put himself in position to make plays. between wilson and marshawn. stop those two guys from running the football first. keep the safeties deep. and make sure action throw over top of them. >> we will see what happens. do you have a prediction. >> i think it's going to be a great football game. a wild bold affair. >> are you mad at belichick. >> no he is a great friend. >> you saw him recently. i was at the state of the league address. he we were just talking about it. the commissioner getting blistered not just from the players that i can remember but from the media essentially saying why do you still have this job after an hour of questions. with all the problems had, including the ones with you guys and ray rice. what responsibilities does the team have and what is on the commissioner and the league? >> i think you could pick your cliche on this one, victory lap, nell in nail in the coffin. noses in it if anything the layers being removed are layers of securing america's borders. and this has been going on actually since 2009. incrementally. first with funding, then with resources. and now with policy. it's making social workers out of our law enforcers. away from the borders ports of entry and looking for dangerous criminals and instead looking to find ways to keep law violaters in the u.s. a person that is a foreign born national violating u.s. laws has a better chance of walking out of a courtroom than a u.s. citizen would at this time. >> well previously illegal immigrants the burden was on them or their lawyers right, to say that i legally can be here and not ice officials is this almost like the irs telling people oh maybe you might qualify for this deduction or this exemption? >> that's a good analogy. and also it still is against the law to enter the united states illegally and remain here without permission. it's just that this current administration is basically saying we can't make law enforcers look the other way. we can tell to you look for ways of releasing them after you have arrested them. and there are ways of doing. this lack of funding lack of bed space and certainly a lack of will in this case. >> i want to talk about the burden on american taxpayers in all of this. how much of a burden is it to the american taxpayer? >> probably on the pace of releases. >> because you've been cautious? >> because i have the responsibility and i play my own game here and that is because by law, i am the one official in government charged with certification of release and detainees. i take that responsibility very seriously. >> have you had pressure? >> we've had a lot of conversations. >> with the white house. >> yes. and congress. and the press. >> further evidence that wants to make good on those campaign promises to end the war and close guantanamo bay no matter what. >> and so now, we see for the third day in a row, this administration failing, unable to call the taliban a terror group. here admiral john kirby, the pentagon spokesman stepping in with the white house. taliban is really a terror group or something else. >> from a military perspective, the taliban and afghanistan as an armed insurgency. as i understand it the state department has not designated them as a foreign organization yes, they have used tactics and will probably continue to use them, but not designated as such. >> but george bush in 2002 did designate them as a terrorist group. do you follow what the state department says or the commander in chief? >> i think you in many ways understand mitt romney better that be a lot of people. why is he stepping up in this race? beyond what he is? >> i think we sort of learned not the take politicians at face value. that there's always some alter yor motive. in this case i think mitt romney means exactly what he's saying. i was privy to a lot of behind the scenes conversations and there's an earnestness and sincerity that he has about serving his country. we've got as you know, in the movie that premiered a year ago at sun dance so behind me is a shot of park city, where the festival is going on now. a year ago, we premiered the film and in it there were a lot of things that a lot of people found surprising. he appeared to be an authentic person. so when he comes forth and says i think we're trained in the media, i think he's probably is smart enough to assess his chances, looked hard and carefully. i think it must be alluring to him given his poll numbers and i think he just came down, he would do more harm -- already willing to throw their money behind. of course comes down to money. so, do you see already, from donors and supporters from mitt romney to any of the other candidates. >> you know, that's hard to say. i think that both jeb bush and mitt romney would occupy the same political space. for moderate republicans. not sure it's exactly true. there's a lot we had in contact, we were making the film that were big senator rubio fans and so i think it would be foolish at this point to say all will run to jeb bush and rubio. i think there's a battle about to play autoond there's ging to be a lot of jockeying for mitt ice money. >> you mentioned the supporters what about romney. chris christie last night, which is you know, christie said hey, we're friends real friends, not just political friends but a couple of years ago on the beach in sandy christie was hugging obama and that didn't fair so well. who do you think he will be spoth something. >> i have no idea. i have no idea. i think -- mitt has always struck me as someone that's very careful. sometimes, that has served him well and sometimes as a candidate, we've wanted him to be more spontaneous and impulsive to show that side of him that we saw behind the scenes, but i think his prudence will win out and he'll probably assess the field much in the same way that we'll assess the field. >> the final quick question, greg, what can the other candidates learn from your film about mitt romney about how they should be running for president and how they should be responing to the tension and crisis in such a candidacy? >> i love that question. i think it's easy if r us to sit back and coach these candidates. even many sitting here, i'm not on tv every day and i start running through all the things i want to say and it's so difficult to be authentic and trans transparent. however, we are living now in a particular news cycle and social media landscape that requires a level of transparency and authenticity. john adams said anybody running for public office has an obligation to disclose and open up their personal life and as offensive as sometimes that might feel to these candidates, it's unfortunately, the price of poker. and one of the things that i think we learned in making this film about mitt romney, mittmovie.com just a couple of day s days ago, we uploaded some deleted scenes. one is about george romney and you'll get a sense of just how much things have changed and how people run for president, but one thing has remained constant. that if you think somehow find a way to be who you really are, that seems to be what the american people will reward. so, for anyone running for president, democratic or republican, i not only believe you have an obligation, it will be to your advantage to show us who you really really are. >> thanks for being here. >> can i mention the film i'm working on now? >> the bill that passed last year he's referring to is a very good bill. not a bulletproof bill but it's good and moves things in the right direction. he's talking about people that would be leaving. no one's been fired yet. that's the irony. at the department of vet ran s aerans apairs, they're supposed to be given more choice and providing more accountability, but veterans are still waiting and not getting the kind of choice they deserve and senior executives have not been fired for the wait time scandal in phoenix, so the perception might be that people could lose their pensions, but it hasn't happened yet. >> and no one, you testified, you worked day and night still workday and night to protect veterans. i helped carry 5,000 e-mails down to congress you say there's a choice card giving veterans the opportunity to get service and care. but the choice card doesn't work. >> you still have a call an 800 number and they tell you whether you get choice. they're being very limited in what's being called the geographic distance, about whether you've waited too long. so veterans are waiting on hold talking to someone and they're say ing saying you don't qualify, even though they feel like they live more than 40 miles away. they're still not getting choice and you know why? and the veteran is empowered to go to a private facility nothing's going to change, so you'll see reform for groups like ours pushing the va further to give real choice because right now, these bill are a accept in the right direction. >> in the last ten seconds what's the solution going to be on this problem that our viewer wrote in about?
