>> none of these individuals has returned to the battlefield. none of them is allowed to travel outside of qatar. none have engaged in physical violence. in fact, each of them at this moment is still in qatar, and each of them is subject to monitoring and other mitigation measures that limit their activities. >> see that's the other side of it. >> physical violence. so maybe they are not the ones holding the ak 47s and strapping the bombs to their chest at the moment. >> haven't blown anything up yet but we know they are speaking to each other. is it a taliban reunion? is there really an ability for people to exercise their second amendment in washington d.c.? >> well i spoke to the lawyer who is representing people suing the city over this issue. he said absolutely not. the reason -- 66 people out of a city of 68,000. this application process is open to anyone in america. 350 million people and only 66 applications? well, it is simply because it is so hard to pass. people just aren't going through it i am. i am one of the people who applied. i have to have a special danger in order to apply. special danger means that you are personally being targeted. you have proof from a hospital that you have been injured or. >> look at what's required to demonstrate in washington. you have to fear injury to yourself and show a special such as evidence of specific threat or previous attacks. i don't want to get into you personally, but is that standard too high according to the lawyers for the gun rights advocates? >> exactly. i spoke to allen yesterday, he is the lawyer, the one who actually took the heller case to the supreme court, very familiar with this issue d.c. and gun rights. it's not abiding by the second amendment. judge over the summer when he made his ruling said the reason d.c. had to allow for some carry permits banning all carry permits is unconstitutional. the people he represents are going to take both the contempt issue and hopefully they are hoping that the city held in contempt and has to rewrite the law. >> as a final question, in some states they say once the process goes on they shall give you a permit. in washington, d.c. it says they may give you a permit. >> may. >> quickly that's become the stumbling block for a lot of people. >> exactly. that's what i think eventually the supreme court ask going to handle. six states and d.c. who have what you call as you said, quote, the may issue. in our case it's the police chief who may issue it. and the appeals courts are split on this. i think eventually it's going to the supreme court. >> yes or no, emily. do you think they are going to go to court contempt against washington, d.c.? >> what we saw yesterday was the reflective nature of a proven candidate. somebody who looked toward the future of the republican party and understood that it was his time to pass the baton on to new leadership. certainly no prize spo former staffs who understood his thought process and how he was methodically going through. this it leads to opening into the republican field for an establishment alternative, if you will, to governor bush who moved in a very steady fashion establishment political consults. >> i'm on the other side of this. i disagree with mitt romney on this. we were talking about it earlier on the show. republicans like to elect people who lost elections before. there is a long track record of this. richard nixon losing a number of times. ronald reagan losing a number of times. you build up that, i don't know, that face value. that momentum. you learn what you did wrong. you learn from your mistakes. i don't know, going to the young fresh face, i disagree with mitt on this one. >> that's certainly your right to do. so i think governor romney, again looked inside both of his heart and his head. and i he understood that this was something while in the pit of his stomach when you receive 61 million votes, you raise more than a billion dollars. your forth right and contemplative about the future and proven right in. he knew in the pit of his stomach and his heart that he probably could run again and have a very good opportunity to be the nominee. but also this was going to be a more daunting challenge than what he experienced in 2012. it was a different shakeup. a different makeup of the field. and ultimately he decided to forego that what was in the best interest of his family and i think the future of the republican party and he should be commended for that. >> governor romney had dinner with chris christie last night. some blamed chris christie in part for governor romney's loss last time. that being said, was the governor's statement this week a slam on jeb bush? why do we call terrorists merely military insurgents? >> well, our brave soldiers and marines haven't lost their way. it's the political elite. we are under a vale of political correctness that is out of control. we seem to think that declaring victory means that you have won, pulling out your troops means you have won. and we seem to think that negotiating with groups that wish to destroy america is going to work. you can't negotiate with totalitarians, whether they are communists in the kremlin whether it's adolf hitler in bunker or whether it's jihadists. and this administration does not understand this kind of war. >> what is the lesson of ronald reagan with regard to this kind of war and how do we get back on the right footing in terms of the threat that america faces in this global war on terror? >> the greatest lesson is that this is a totalitarian ideology. just like communism just like fascism, we are facing totalitarians. this time it's islamist jihadis and the first thing we need to do differently is to talk truthfully about the ideology that drives them. we can't talk about the fact that it's poverty or lack of education. that's ridiculous. if that were the case, half of india would be terrorists. it's an ideology of global domination of recreating the caliphate the theocratic empire of islam. if you are not allowed to speak truthfully about the enemy, how are you going to defeat them? as sue said very famously-thousand-dollar sands of years ago to win a war you must know the enemy. we have to get political correctness out of our analysis of this enemy. >> the need to identify the ideology seems to be clear. what seems unclear, dr. gorka is the motivation behind this white house failing to identify this ideology what on earth could they be thinking we are not going to say islamic jihadism. we are not going to talk about total total i remember. what's the harm over time? >> the harm is huge over time. because you literally cannot win a war. if you are banning your fbi agents, your soldiers, from learning about the ideology of the enemy it's going to be very hard to defeat them. why is this happening? here to talk about campus reform. nice to see you this morning. >> this was mandatory initially with emails being sent out and i will read to you from one of these emails sent out from the school to the students. students who do not attend on the 28th will not be able to register for the fall classes or walk at commencement. it sounds like a threat. >> yes. so originally this was a man can a tore event. but the administration withdrew this mandatory and just told students that they should attend. but students should have every right to be angry that their classes, the ones which they paid for and oftentimes took out loans for were cancelled. we hear this type of frustration all the time about leadership institute campus reform. students just immensely frustrated that the administration is imposing these types of events, imposing these type of ideals on these students while neglecting basic responsibility to teach them job skills. >> was this event meant to bring students together, unify them and did it do its job? it was unfortunately this idea of talking about racial issues is a positive one. the university made a critical mistake by telling students that they must look at their piers in peers inn. terms of characteristics instead of having an event promoting the respect and diligence of all people regardless of their race sexual orientation, they decided to instead have this members of a group instead of individuals which is poisoning academia and society. >> what unfolded in this event? from what i understand students are supposed to get together and talk about microaggressions. if they were asian american they were supposed to get together and explain what happened to them. take us through what actually unfolded at this thing? >> that's correct. the majority of this event has students break up and talk about these ideas of microaggressions. now, this is basically this concept that people -- that every day situations reflect the heart of racism. so but unfortunately this is basically of how this person feels after these interactions. there is no clear ideal what this really means. feelings are objective we are supposed to assume people have ill intent. how can we possibly get around this. >> didn't we hear about microaggression on harvard's campus as a result of soda streams being set up in college cafeteria? >> i think it's part of football. the main thing is that you count on the officials to give you a chance to operate. to find the eligible receivers and figure out how you are going to play the defense. that's what fair to the players. i don't think they did a great job of that they are trying to figure out still how to get that done and hopefully get it done sunday. >> your advice to pete carol is prepare for what you can't prepare for. something is going to happen unscripted. they like to push the rules. >> absolutely. everybody does. they will be ready for everything. anything can happen on or off the field and they have got to overcome it. >> pete carroll is on your ledger. you have to play him on sunday. how does john harbaugh prepare? >> i think you could pick your cliche on this one, victory lap, nell in nail in the coffin. noses in it if anything the layers being removed are layers of securing america's borders. and this has been going on actually since 2009. incrementally. first with funding, then with resources. and now with policy. it's making social workers out of our law enforcers. away from the borders ports of entry and looking for dangerous criminals and instead looking to find ways to keep law violaters in the u.s. a person that is a foreign born national violating u.s. laws has a better chance of walking out of a courtroom than a u.s. citizen would at this time. >> well previously illegal immigrants the burden was on them or their lawyers right, to say that i legally can be here and not ice officials is this almost like the irs telling people oh maybe you might qualify for this deduction or this exemption? >> that's a good analogy. and also it still is against the law to enter the united states illegally and remain here without permission. it's just that this current administration is basically saying we can't make law enforcers look the other way. we can tell to you look for ways of releasing them after you have arrested them. and there are ways of doing. this lack of funding lack of bed space and certainly a lack of will in this case. >> i want to talk about the burden on american taxpayers in all of this. how much of a burden is it to the american taxpayer? >> i think you in many ways understand mitt romney better that be a lot of people. why is he stepping up in this race? beyond what he is? >> i think we sort of learned not the take politicians at face value. that there's always some alter yor motive. in this case i think mitt romney means exactly what he's saying. i was privy to a lot of behind the scenes conversations and there's an earnestness and sincerity that he has about serving his country. we've got as you know, in the movie that premiered a year ago at sun dance so behind me is a shot of park city, where the festival is going on now. a year ago, we premiered the film and in it there were a lot of things that a lot of people found surprising. he appeared to be an authentic person. so when he comes forth and says i think we're trained in the media, i think he's probably is smart enough to assess his chances, looked hard and carefully. i think it must be alluring to him given his poll numbers and i think he just came down, he would do more harm -- already willing to throw their money behind. of course comes down to money. so, do you see already, from donors and supporters from mitt romney to any of the other candidates. >> you know, that's hard to say. i think that both jeb bush and mitt romney would occupy the same political space. for moderate republicans. not sure it's exactly true. there's a lot we had in contact, we were making the film that were big senator rubio fans and so i think it would be foolish at this point to say all will run to jeb bush and rubio. i think there's a battle about to play autoond there's ging to be a lot of jockeying for mitt ice money. >> you mentioned the supporters what about romney. chris christie last night, which is you know, christie said hey, we're friends real friends, not just political friends but a couple of years ago on the beach in sandy christie was hugging obama and that didn't fair so well. who do you think he will be spoth something. >> i have no idea. i have no idea. i think -- mitt has always struck me as someone that's very careful. sometimes, that has served him well and sometimes as a candidate, we've wanted him to be more spontaneous and impulsive to show that side of him that we saw behind the scenes, but i think his prudence will win out and he'll probably assess the field much in the same way that we'll assess the field. >> the final quick question, greg, what can the other candidates learn from your film about mitt romney about how they should be running for president and how they should be responing to the tension and crisis in such a candidacy? >> i love that question. i think it's easy if r us to sit back and coach these candidates. even many sitting here, i'm not on tv every day and i start running through all the things i want to say and it's so difficult to be authentic and trans transparent. however, we are living now in a particular news cycle and social media landscape that requires a level of transparency and authenticity. john adams said anybody running for public office has an obligation to disclose and open up their personal life and as offensive as sometimes that might feel to these candidates, it's unfortunately, the price of poker. and one of the things that i think we learned in making this film about mitt romney, mittmovie.com just a couple of day s days ago, we uploaded some deleted scenes. one is about george romney and you'll get a sense of just how much things have changed and how people run for president, but one thing has remained constant. that if you think somehow find a way to be who you really are, that seems to be what the american people will reward. so, for anyone running for president, democratic or republican, i not only believe you have an obligation, it will be to your advantage to show us who you really really are. >> thanks for being here. >> can i mention the film i'm working on now? >> the bill that passed last year he's referring to is a very good bill. not a bulletproof bill but it's good and moves things in the right direction. he's talking about people that would be leaving. no one's been fired yet. that's the irony. at the department of vet ran s aerans apairs, they're supposed to be given more choice and providing more accountability, but veterans are still waiting and not getting the kind of choice they deserve and senior executives have not been fired for the wait time scandal in phoenix, so the perception might be that people could lose their pensions, but it hasn't happened yet. >> and no one, you testified, you worked day and night still workday and night to protect veterans. i helped carry 5,000 e-mails down to congress you say there's a choice card giving veterans the opportunity to get service and care. but the choice card doesn't work. >> you still have a call an 800 number and they tell you whether you get choice. they're being very limited in what's being called the geographic distance, about whether you've waited too long. so veterans are waiting on hold talking to someone and they're say ing saying you don't qualify, even though they feel like they live more than 40 miles away. they're still not getting choice and you know why? and the veteran is empowered to go to a private facility nothing's going to change, so you'll see reform for groups like ours pushing the va further to give real choice because right now, these bill are a accept in the right direction. >> in the last ten seconds what's the solution going to be on this problem that our viewer wrote in about?
