The doctor one morning after very intensive surgery we were going to have on my left arm asked me if he could amputate my fourth digit as they call it. I told him no. An intern who was working there at the time asked me, after i told her my story and she was the first one i told my whole story to about how i got wounded. Out of all the things she could have asked me she went with why didnt you let them amputate your ring finger. I said because one of these days im going to find a woman the way i am and im going toly wear a ring. What happened to that woman . Weve been married about nine years now. Incredible. I hook line and sinker got her on that one. It was hard for her to walk
away after that. Youve got guys on the crew sketching this story down. Incredible story your sacrifice and patriotism. What does it say to you that americans flocked to the movie over the weekend. Its not because of Clint Eastwood. I think it is because the story was sold as a book and now it sets records as a movie. What does it tell you . In boston we should be at about 18 inches. So far weve only picked up about 5. 5 inches of
snowfall. A little bit of a snow drought across parts of the northeast. Temperaturewise mild and not bad across parts of texas and oklahoma. Highs in the 60s and 70s. Mild as well across the southeast. Lets head back inside. Let me tell you what happened in the world of football. Only two games that you care about. The only two games left. What do you do in a situation like that where you have no control. I understand you have a twoyearold little boy at home. Your wife is pregnant. She is due in june. If you could put words to it what is going through your mind when you see those lights headed your way . Everybody talks about your life flashing before your eyes. It didnt for me. All i could think about was my wife and my son and hoping it wasnt my time and praying i would be able to get through it. After all the crashing and banging and swirling and after everything finally stopped and i realized i
was okay, i still had to make sure that nobody else was going to come. Through my mind, im just hoping ill be able to get through it. Look at the picture. How did you end up there . Set the scene. Were going down this hill in baker and the fog is thick, thicker than i would like it to be. As were descending this hill this truck jackknifed in front of me and takes up both lanes and off the guardrail to the median. I aim for the trailer. When i hit the trailer it sent me broadside into the road. The next thing i know i look out the back window and i see the semi truck lights barreling down on me. I didnt even look at it. I turned back are you outside the vehicle there . No, no. Im inside. Thats all thats left of the silverado. Caleb, who took that

To set the record straight this is after he checked on me and he realized everything was okay, he asked afterwards if he could take a picture because Something Like that you dont see but once in a lifetime. He was one of the drivers of the semi . He was one of the truck drivers, yes. What did he say to you . Did he say im sorry . Im not sure which one of the drivers he was. I dont know. What do you say. Nobody had any control with the black ice. You cant control a vehicle like that. Caleb, whats wrong with you . Are you okay 100 . Ill be honest ive got a bruised eye on my left and thats it. A couple of small cuts on my right hand. The bandaids have since come off. How soon is it until you spoke with your wife . Well i didnt call anybody until i got out of the vehicle. Then i knew for sure i was safe. It was within five, ten minutes that i was out of the vehicle that i spoke with her. By serving each other in our home, were able to learn how to serve the community. Then get a good education. Technology is good but with young people putting the books away and depending on the technology, we want to do both. And one of my favorite series star trek the
captain reads books in the midst of the star ship. We want our children to read as well. It is precious time when youre reading with a child and then they can pass that on. You say building a beloved community. One of the pillars of your uncles messages to the community. A poll says as far as the Obama Administration has gone, 59 of respond he wants believe he has mostly failed on improving race relations. Where do we go from here . I am sad to report that im part of that 59 , and i would say even with the president to be a little more in touch with all the people, not divided by race or economic status or anything like that, but just all human beings. We need comfort, safety. And on the terrorist level to really address that for every issue of terrorism for example, and to shy away from calling the

program actually a number of months ago talking about his bible study course that he would like to see schools all across the country do. There was a school in oklahoma that wanted to adopt it as part of their curriculum, but what happened . Well, basically what happened was, the Mustang School district, which is part of my senate district, offered this class and coincidentally they had 20 spots and 200 students applied for it but basically under threat of lawsuit they decided to take a step back and theyre going to reevaluate the curriculum. Your bill which will be voted on by the state senate there in oklahoma, would do what . Basically would give School Districts flexibility to, if they wanted to offer this classes an elective they wouldnt be threatened to be they would have protection from lawsuits. Well now the Group Americans united says that these classes would promote or advocate christianity. What do you say to that . You know to me its just
to me its just reactionary. If you go back to the seminole case in 1963 where the Supreme Court took out prayer in schools, they specifically mentioned that having a biblical study or a class that studies the literary impact of the bible was protected under the first amendment. Those folks interested in not having this class really are not listening and paying attention to what the Supreme Court has said in the past so its completely covered by the first amendment. Its not like its a bible study class that you would have on a sunday morning at your church. Its the history of the bible thats impacted millions of people for thousands of years . Thats right. Romney did not i supported mitt romney and he didnt bring out the people. He choked in the end. The last month was a disaster. He should have won that election. He was going against the president , who was absolutely not good and not doing well. He was at probably his lowest point, maybe his lowest point, and he ended up winning the election and it wasnt like obama campaigned well. He was a horror show in the debates. He had no confidence. He was talking about people, he was it telling people, i cant do it anymore, i cant do it anymore, this is our president. Everyone talks a about what a great debater he is he was
afraid to go into the second debate. He just choked choked like a dog, and we cannot allow that to happen again. The romney cares still with you, many other issues including the 47 statement thats going to be brought up again, and hell lose for the same reason. But most importantly, some people cannot get the ball over the line and he was never able to get the ball over the line. We cant do it again. Hes a nice man but we cant do that again. We really need help in this country. This country is going to be a disaster if we keep going along the way were going. And these people are not going to be beating Hillary Clinton. You were in afghanistan three times, afghanistan a few times, probably too many for you, too many to count, we thank you for your great service. Can you give us a glimpse into the mind of someone who does what you do . When i say those 33 kills in less than four months how do you do that and then return here on, you know, safe soil as it was . I think its more or less a switch that needs to be turned on and off. Sometimes that switch is harder for others to turn off. Ptsd is a big deal right now, but being a sniper its a very you know, its a prestiges you job but being able to stay calm collected and you do it for your brothers. Thats the reason why i did it. There are 2,000 military men and women guarding them providing medical care and legal services. When i was a pentagon spokesman from 2005 to 2009 we had about the same amount of people but we had 600 detainees and then 500 and then 400. We still have the same number of troops guarding them and providing medical care and legal services. We could downsize that number today. For example, if you go by the math and the matrix, if you have 2,000 people watching 600, 700, now were down to 120 could we
knock it down to 300 guards. Do we need a doctor for every detainee and do they need a lawyer for every detainee. Thats a huge bill. Thats a huge bill. It is unnecessary. I think president obama is basically trying to make a political point. Hes not downsizing guantanamo as far as the troops go because he wants to say its so expensive. Brian, if guantanamo closed the taxpayer wouldnt save that money because look, were talking about 2,000 people in the military. Theyre not going to get fired. Theyll be transferred somewhere else. Its fuzzy math on the part of the administration. Theyre misleading americans once again on guantanamo. You know this and talk about it in your column, 750,000 to get that soccer field because every prisoner needs to play soccer soccer, four halal meals a day, imported dates and honey, sides of olives and cheese at every meal. If you listen to robert gibbs he said on meet the press being secretary of state here, that will lift her up, this will propel her into 2016. Watch this. Well, i dont think that democrats believe the nostalgia for clinton ends with tragic losses in two different president ial campaigns. I mean, if you listened to that speech on friday night from san
diego, the republican winter meeting, hes laying the case about Foreign Policy, and about the previous run and how he thinks he can do it again and when. The issue is is that there is not this groundswell for romney and that poll and a lot of polls like it, may be about the last run and name recognition but well see. There was one poll question, we dont have a graphic for it so interesting, i just want to repeat it, they asked republicans, do you want a candidate who agrees with you or do you want a candidate who can win . 60 say i want a candidate who agrees with me 35 said, i want somebody who will win. Thats one of the things we were talking about that bothers us. Snow and ice off cars in front of you its dangerous, its wrong. Just spend a few minutes and try to get that stuff off. If youre in the highway. So what about accidents on black ice, are these covered by Auto Insurance . This is a tricky question. Is it covered bit your liability policy . In some cases. Some cases its covered by comprehensive and collision. Some people dont get that. They say its too expensive dont know what deductible should be. If you have a one car accident and you spin out on the ice or a whiteout or some kind of condition on the road and you damage your own vehicle, your
liability policy is not going to cover it. So youre going to have to call upon, depending your policy, your comprehensive or collision coverage. An accident on the road involving black ice and strike another car and theyre damaged personally in some way, liability will probably cover it. Make sure you have the right coverages to protect you. elections, harry reid has squeaked through more times than any of the others. So, you know, at some point your luck can run out. Yeah. I guess you see that possibly being inevitable especially at his age, also in his minority status after that injury. Look at something as extremely intriguing for a guy like you. You have to be intrigued by whats happening on the republican side. Youve broken up some of the candidates into different tiers and only one candidate in the top tier your first tier, who is it . Its jeb bush. Theres no way you cannot put him in there with the network the bush people have of establishment support and big donors bush got the lead on the entire field by moving so quickly and surprising everybody and doing it so hes absolutely in the top tier. Hes the only one in the top tier although theres some very strong candidates just below him, the other big boys i call them in the second tier. Real quick, we have a lot of
people to get to, is it bad to be out front so early . Well, it can be. Of course i always tell people, its always better to be ahead than behind. People come up with all these rationales for why being behind is better but you would rather be out front. It means everybody is going to be shooting at you. Like what happened to mccain and what happened to giuliani. Look at the second tier romney heads that list. Despite the fact that he wins most republican popularity polls, also joining on that list, listening on radio rand paul, scott walker, chris christie, you have them there. Why do you have rand paul up that high . Because hes such a different candidate. Because he has very little real competition for the libertarian wing of the Republican Party and in these early caucuses and primaries that really matters. Because the vote is going to be sliced up in so many directions. Theres at least 12 candidates that will be in there, maybe more than 12 candidates. So you can win with 20 to 25 of
the vote potentially less. Third tier familiar names, it ted cruz. Mike huckabee. Ben carson. Ben carson the upstart ted cruz the true conservative and Mike Huckabee the swaltalwart, possibly the greatest visibility of all of them. Huckabee has been around the track before and he has real strength with social conservatives and they really matter especially in iowa and South Carolina, two of the earliest contests. Nobody wants to exclude any of them and certainly not huckabee. But the problem is going for them broadening out their appeal as the primary process moves along.
