properly they will always behave truthfully. >> thanks for joining us. "fox & friends" starts now. >> bye. have a great day. >> good morning. today is tuesday, october 14. i'm ainsley earhardt. a fox news alert. brand-new details on this texas nurse infected with the ebola virus as more possible cases are being tested now overnight. and the government's response that has many americans scratching their heads. >> panic on an american airlines night when the cabin walls start cracking mid flight forcing the captain to leave the cockpit. and if you're in the air, that's never good. >> right. for years the government called his killing spree workplace violence, but last night nidal hassan's attorney made a stunning admission. >> is this any doubt in your mind that this is somebody who believes in the jihad? >> the answer no one saw
coming. meanwhile, you know this by heart. mornings are better with friends, us friends. >> hey. you're watching "fox & friends,ed" fastest show on four cameras. >> i didn't realize that. >> must we've got one outside. tech nick which i we have five but -- technically we have five but four in the studio. >> what a great camouflage for our camera. no one will ever detect it. >> a little rainy in the northeast. we have another busy morning to tell you about. >> we have a fox news alert to start with this morning. at this very hour a man in kansas is now in isolation with symptoms of this deadly ebola virus. a nurse in kansas is undergoing a blood transfusion to save her life hopefully. we're outside in dallas with the latest.
>> reporter: we're learning more about this nurse who has become infected with ebola here in texas. she's 26 years old, just graduated from a texas nursing school, t.c.u., texas christian university, back in 2010 so she's only been on the job for about four years or so. nina pham is her name. we're told she is stable at texas presbyterian health where she is employed as a critical nurse. still unclear from health officials on how she contracted the disease despite wearing protective equipment like gloves and gowns. in all the hospital estimates around 70 staff members had exposure to thomas duncan during his care here. no one else is sick but they are being monitored closely and top health officials warned of even more infections at this point. >> i feel awful that a health care worker became
infected in the care of an ebola patient. she was this trying to help the first patient survive. we need to consider the possibility that there could be additional cases, particularly among the health care workers who cared for the index patient when he was so ill. >> not something you want to hear; right? meantime, that nurse has been receiving mass -- plasma products donated by dr. kent brantly. he is the american doctor who caught ebola while he was working in liberia but came back to the united states, was successfully treated and is doing much better, doing well. he donated plasma products to be given to this nurse. we understand he tried to donate that for thomas duncan but their blood types did not match. hopefully that will help her beat this and be on the road to recovery. >> thank you very much. also, yesterday we told you there was some cryptic notes about this particular nurse, just 26 years old.
she went to t.c.u. she graduated in 2010. but you know what -- there she is right there, nina pham with her spaniel dog bentley. she only got her certificate for critical care nursing on august 1. so she had only been in this particular job for a couple of months. just one other note. we told you that one other person is in isolation down in fort worth, a company called alcon, an eye care company, sent out a news release saying that one of their associates was in isolation. reportedly he is her boyfriend. >> frieden comes out yesterday as you just saw and says essentially i didn't mean to blame her. i'm sorry it came off like that. i feel terrible she came down with this but the only thing we can think of is somewhere along the line she violated protocol. and you have 70 other workers who did all sorts of things trying to help mr. duncan survive and he
didn't. they are going to be observed. the virus takes 21 days to show symptoms to have anything in you to test positive for it. yesterday bill o'reilly had enough. he watches frieden every single day. he listens to his explanation and says this guy is not telling the truth. >> frieden should resign, as he well knows. charter flights could carry medical and military personnel to the affected areas in africa, and that's the way they should be transported, by charter. so that monitoring can be very close. believing that civilian airport people in jfk or newark or dulles airport can spot ebola that is dormant, believing that is stupid and irresponsible and puts all americans at risk. it's a dumb and dangerous ruse, and frieden is the chief propagandist. he knows better. talking points are just
asking for common sense, which the obama administration is rejecting outright. but i will predict tonight they will soon reverse course. again, there is no compelling reason for west africans to come to the united states at this point in time. >> it's almost like they're just learning as they go. i agree with bill o'reilly and everything that he's saying. in the private sector he's saying the c.d.c. should resign, the head of the c.d.c. in the private sector, if you don't do your job and if people die as a result of it, then you probably wouldn't have your job anymore. >> the follow-up was he can't go out and say guys this is terrible, i have no idea where it's going because there is a lot of school of thought, according to other experts, that possibly this ebola virus could be transmitted through the air. if that is true, let's put up a brand-new set of rules. >> it is hike they're retroactive and not proactive. this are new rules we're learning. it could be spread this way. >> yesterday thomas frieden, in addition to
apologizing to the nurse that he threw under the bus the day before, for him to say we have to rethink the way we address ebola. rethink that way? all along he's try to do a really good job reassuring us but if he's saying we've got to rethink that, it's not a problem, it's not a problem, now it's a problem. just the fact as he said yesterday if even a single infection is unacceptable, then shouldn't, as bill o'reilly said, until we figure out how to get a handle on this we should suspend travel until we get up with new screenings and care protocols. >> why not be safe? no one is going to say why did you stop those nights to west africa? you had no problem stopping nights to israel when one missile got close to the airport. you want to be safe. how about protecting americans who want to walk down the street in dallas. if somebody wants to be in charge, wouldn't the perfect person be bill frist, former majority
leader, someone who knows how to organize. >> this disease has been around since 1976. it is not a new disease. someone out there, someone here in america knows a lot about this disease, is a scientist that nose this competently, that guy needs to be in charge. >> yesterday i heard silvia burrwell, she is in charge. we've seen the c.d.c. guy, we saw dr. fauci yesterday. where is the surgeon general? right now we don't have one. his name is all tied up in confirmation because there are people on the republican side who say that the particular nominee has been too mill in the past. so who -- has been too political in the past. who is in charge? because right now if they're rethinking things that is not good. >> let's talk about other things happening. isis now targeting our police officers.
is this a credible threat? we've heard about lone wolves and threats and attacks and go signs for years? >> the feds are taking this threat seriously warning of possible lone wolf attacks. according to media reports a joint intelligence bulletin warns isis may be planning attacks inside the u.s. it comes after an isis spokesman reported an audio message urging adherence to soldiers and troops. it adds attackers can act on their own and need not ask fob anyone's advice. isis continues to make attacks in iraq and syria. on monday it captured a military training camp in western iraq, another step in gaining control of anbar province. in addition, a series of bombings racked baghdad killing theeft 30 people. in syria on monday isis fighters carried out three suicide bombings in kobani
allowing its troops to make small advances. critics of the white house's foreign policy remain unconvinced that isis can be stopped without american ground troops. >> you cannot defeat an army on the ground simply from the air. and to put all your eggs in the basket of hoping local armed forces will be able to do the job was a deeply flawed strategy from the beginning. >> secretary of state john kerry yesterday down played the significance of kobani saying it is just one community. >> kobani is one community, and it's a tragedy of what is happening there. and we don't diminish that. but we have said from day one it is going to take a period of time. >> at this point it is estimated that isis forces control about 50% of that border town. back to you. >> also the report yesterday that susan rice said turkey is saying we can use their air bases. tuns out no one told turkey.
they said that is not true. >> she was unwise for saying that in public. meanwhile time for news and we start with the weather. >> we have severe weather to talk about, serious situation in parts of the country. more than 32 million americans finding themselves in the path of deadly tornadoes. 100 miles-per-hour winds reducing mobile homes in arkansas to rubble, tossing cars in the air like toys. this storm responsible for killing a marine and members of his family, a 75-year-old woman in alabama also died when a tree fell on her trailer. over in louisiana, tens of thousands of people are waking without power this morning. terrifying moments on board an american airlines night when the cabin panels begin to pop off just after takeoff. flight attendants and a pilot actually were able to stick their hands inside parts of the plane that buckled. >> all of a sudden a load pop, pop -- a loud pop, pop, pop. a ripping sound.
the interior plastic panels and insurance -- and insulation start ripping out. >> the plane landed safely in san francisco. officials say an air duct problem is to blame. a bus ride turning dangerous on the road in salt lake city. police reported to a swerving school bus carrying 67 children after adults on board frantically called 911. listen. >> what happened? a fox news alert. the centers for disease control now admitting it's taking a different approach to the ebola virus after a texas nurse who was wearing protective gear tested positive for the deadly infection. but one option that's not on the table, banning flights from africa. the source? >> there are unexpected effects that really could possibly paradoxically make
things worse. the best way to protect americans is to completely control and eliminate the epidemic in west africa. >> west africa is the source. >> so is that true? do we need to ban flights? let's ask dr. david samadi from the fox medical a team. thanks for being with us. >> good morning. >> you say ban flights. you were saying that this weekend on fox news. tell us why. >> there are times in the history of america, and nobody said it better than ronald reagan, that you have to tear down those walls. and this are times such as this where we have to protect americans. that's one of the reasons why i looked straight in the camera and told the president please bring up those walls. the best way to isolate this disease is right in west africa, and the other international countries have to join u.s. we are talking about sending aides, we're sending our troops and sending doctors over there. we've had about 300
minnesota health care workers -- 3-00 plus health care workers in that country. if you contain this disease, you control this disease. once the bird is outside the cage, you have to start looking for all these cases and you have these nurses and doctors and you're putting doctors and hospitals in danger. by the way, i commend her with what she's done, she is doing what a doctor or nurse is supposed to do to take care of sick people. now you have a 26-year-old who is sick. take care of it over this. don't let it come out. that is the message. the other thing i want to bring up is is this the same ebola virus we knew since 1976? these viruses sometimes mutate. if you look at the history of ebola, we've had about 2,000 cases or so. now in the last seven months, we went to over
8,000, maybe 20,000 in a month. it is a different disease. this could be mutation. we need to be very aggressive when it comes to this virus. >> if this is no medical reason why we're not banning these flights, is this a political reason? >> i'm not into the politics of this. i'm a physician. they say if you ban it you will not be able to give it enough aid and the economy could collapse and it could get worse. we're sending a tremendous amount of money and we can take care of this over this. we don't have a vaccine, we don't have antiviral medication. we need to at least temporarily close the flights out of there until we take care of this. >> check him out on facebook. you're going to pose 50 different questions. coming up, the pilot of the air france flight that crashed into the ocean killing everyone on board knew that they were doomed. his last words are now being revealed. >> once a hero always a

waiting for it and apparently the u.s. army has completed its report into alleged sergeant beau bergdahl. he walked off his base in afghanistan in 2009 and left a note saying he was sick and tired of it. he was held captive by the taliban for five years before the obama administration cut a deal to release him in exchange for five really bad taliban leaders. so what's the inside story and what could possibly be in the report? we might never know. so let's talk to fox news senior judicial analyst, judge andrew napolitano. the preliminary report is done. would we normally hear about this anyway? >> no. we normally would not. and reports are done all the time in the military and in civilian prosecution. it's basically the government evaluating the strength of its own case against a potential defendant. the reason we won't see the report probably ever is twofold.
one, if he's exonerated, if they decided that as bizarre as his behavior was, it wasn't criminal, or it would be very, very difficult for them to prove the case, they don't want to tarnish his reputation and the law says they shouldn't by revealing what they learned about him. on the other hand if they are going to prosecute him, this report likely evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of their own case against him and they don't want to reveal that unless and until they have to. so the procedure is pretty much the same in the military as in the civilian world, where civilian prosecutors prepare these all the time for their bosses when they're deciding whether or nothto recommend an indictment against a particular defendant. >> you and i have talked about how the administration broke a bunch of laws. they were supposed to let congress know. they blew that. but you look at this case, it looks political and it looks like a cover-up and i know you're really bugged by it. >> i'm bugged by it because this case involves the president of the united states of america
personally, so this is not your ordinary criminal prosecution because the president of the united states personally authorized and proved the prisoner swap for him. in doing so, the president of the united states personally, probably, 'cause i don't know what was in his head, violated two laws. one of which says when you diminish the population of the prison camp at gitmo, whatever you think of it, constitutional or unconstitutional, the law says when you diminish the population there, you have to give congress 30 days notice. he did not. the law also says you can not provide material assistance to a terrorist organization. tell me, steve, is sending five al-qaeda leaders back to al-qaeda, providing material assistance to al-qaeda? >> yes. >> it's a crime for which his justice department has prosecuted people! so that's what distinguishes this electric your run of the mill criminal prosecution. into this stew, the coming midterm election. >> of course. >> we will never hear anything

here at texas health presbyterian being monitored and tested for ebola because he had contact with the nurse once she started showing the symptoms. however, we're told that this associate is not sick and they do not believe anyone else in the office where this person worked is at risk. this comes as we're learning more information about that nurse who became infected with the ebola virus here. 26 years old, just graduated from nursing school in 2010. nina pham. she's stable. where she used to be or still is employed as a critical care nurse, still unclear, however, from health officials on just how she contracted the disease despite wearing personal protective equipment like gloves and gowns while treating thomas duncan. in all, the hospital estimates around 70 staff members had exposure to duncan during his in-patient care. no one else reporting symptoms. but they are now being monitored closely. this as top health officials
warn of more infections at this point. >> i feel awful that a health care worker became infected in the care of an ebola patient. she was there trying to help the first patient survive. we need to consider the possibility that there could beç additional cases, particularly among the health care workers who cared for the index patient when he was so ill. >> reporter: meantime, the nurse has received plasma products that were donated by dr. kent brantley. remember, he's the american doctor that caught ebola while working in liberia on a missionary trip. he donated the plasma that has been given to this nurse, something that they hope will help her and get her on the road to recovery. >> all right. casey stegall live outside the hospital down in dallas. we thank you very much. also in the "dallas morning news" this morning, there is a report regarding that alcon associate who is being watched in isolation. reportedly it is the nurse's

they think we don't want to do this like we do the bird flu 'cause look at all the economic damage that was caused by the bird flu. when i heard him say that a week ago, i thought to myself, is this a health care expert or is this someone who is in the obama spin room trying to minimize the economic damage? i didn't like any of that. i'm sorry. and i'm sure he's a nice person, but this is deadly serious. we need a common sense medical professional. not someone who is talking to the business community or to politicians about any of this. i mean, i'm so bothered by this and i think the american people have to make their voices heard. >> i think so, too. he might be a nice man, seems nice, he talks to us like we're children on mr. rogers and it's got to stop because all he talks about is potential, what could happen, what's not going to happen and it always happens and he never takes action. are you one of these people who thinks a person at the top of this pyramid controlling all these things would be an effective thing to do, there would be a positive, like a

governor, paul lepage, the man that this ad is bashing. those are a look at your headlines. not sure how that happens. >> whoopsie daisy. >> sometimes a long time ago before you get into your profession or whatever, if you need some extra money, you do that kind of thing on the side, like acting. you sign a contract and they can use your picture from years on out. >> have you done that? >> in college i did. i was in a bank ad or something. >> in abilene, kansas. my sister just posed and they're in stock photos. i was looking in a magazine. >> i bussed tables. >> i did that, too. meanwhile, steve, you have something to say. >> i'm going to talk about what everybody wants to know about and that is the extreme weather. a new threat, hurricane gonzalo, threatening now the atlantic. this is new video, 70 mile-an-hour winds rock the island. us. is this going to be a hurricane? >> yeah. it already is.
it has been intensifying significantly. now a category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds at 110 miles per hour. that happened very, very quickly. it was just a 70 miles per hour tropical storm yesterday. big changes with this storm system. by the way, by tomorrow afternoon, we could be looking at this storm system being a category 4 hurricane. so this could potentially be the strongest storm we've seen so far this season in the atlantic ocean. along parts of the east coast of the u.s., good news. we do think the storm system will curve out to sea. it should remain out there. the problem is that in the island of bermuda, we could be look at a very strong storm. making landfall as we head into friday night out there. it could be a category 3 or 2 hurricane. that will be very significant. they were just hit a few days ago by another tropical system, its name was faye. we could be look at back to back storms making landfall there and bringing significant impacts to bermuda. otherwise across portions of the southeast, we do have the severe weather risk today. we're looking at the risk for
large hailering damaging winds, and even tornadoes possible and this morning, we already have several tornado watches in effect stretching as far south as florida, through georgia, and also north and south carolina. that risk will continue throughout the day today into the early afternoon hours. temperature wise ahead of the system, you're looking at highs into the 80s. much cooler air behind it. let's head back inside. >> all right. it's a soaker. eastern third of the country. thank you. 21 minutes before the top of the hour. coming up, everyone thought this guy was a wedding guest 'til he ran off with the money. >> and as we get more ebola scares on incoming flights, the cdc says sealing off airports from africa won't work. is that a medical concern or a political decision? peter johnson, jr. on that next go ahead and put your bag right here.
have a nice flight! traveling can feel like one big mystery. you're never quite sure what is coming your way. but when you've got an entire company who knows that the most on-time flights are nothing if we can't get your things there too. it's no wonder more people choose delta than any other airline.
the girls and i need... a new activity. [ giggles ] [ snaps finger ] [ wisest kid ] campbell's tomato soup with grilled cheese. perfect together. what should we do next? i'm liking braids. [ gong ] m'm! m'm! good!
now to some quick headlines. police in connecticut are looking for that man rightthere. he is a wedding crasher who left with more than a full stomach. he allegedly stole a bird cage that contained all the envelopes full of cash for the bride and groom. police dogs tried to track him down, but only found the empty bird cage. it took him five years, but a photographer is finally capturing the image that he has been dreaming of for a long time. that jet there traveling at the speed of sound and he snapped a picture, incredible photos, of this superç hornet flying above the naval air station in virginia beecham took eight shots in less than two seconds. the vapor cone that you see there around the jet is created when a jet reaches 766 miles per hour. steve? thanks. breaking now, the world health organization says there could be up to 10,000 new cases of ebola per week in two months. so why won't the administration ban flights from countries with
outbreaks of ebola? >> there are unexpected effects that really could possibly paradoxically make things work. the best way to protect americans is to completely control and eliminate the epidemic in west africa. >> okay. but that hasn't happened yet. according to the former surgeon general under president george w. bush, what he just said, not true. >> during my term as surgeon general, we looked at this issue of restricting travel as it related to sars and some other diseases we dealt with. at the time we felt that it was going to be counter productive for a whole host of reasons. but i think it's important that we look at everything now because clearly, patients are slipping through and we have to do everything we can to prevent this disease from reaching our shores. >> who is right? let's talk to peter johnson, jr. >> good morning. clearly if we're going to save a lot of people in america and around the world, then there has to be determine determinations
on ebola based on science and not politics. what is the political implication? what is the underpinning of what this administration is saying if there is one? perhaps this may be an insight into what some folks are think ing. >> as americans it's critical we should not panic as far as running from disciplining ourselves from africans, is not the right thing to do. >> we don't want to get a statement put on the liberian community of what is going on. >> so not stigma advertising africans? >> stigmaization, that's a political determination. what is the science behind not being for travel ban? dr. frieden has written an op ed for fox news. he said it cannot stop spread. it will only drive patients with ebola underground, making it difficult to address the outbreak t. could cause western
african countries to stop working with the international community, isolation will increase the risk that ebola will spread in those countries. eventually increases distrust of government, make countries less likely to cooperate in stepping the spread. i also want to point out, there a doctor, at northeastern university, at their laboratory for modeling of biological and societal technical systems. he says that usa only, based on his computer modeling, stopping the influx of west african residents, people from those countries, can only delay the onset of the virus. it cannot eradicate it. so he actually computer modeled it. what i'm saying and i think a lot of americans are saying, let's look at the science. let's bring in the best scientists in america. let's bring in the former surgeon general that we just had on the air. let's look at it in a dispassionate, objective way.
not to scandalize or stigma advertise the west africa countries, but to do what's best to protect them. all americans agree that we need to stop the virus there. that's our best hope in the world. but we need to make a determination based on the science, based on the modeling, based on cogent nonpolitical thinking. let's remove the politics from the analysis and let's talk about it. the president should bring the top scientists in the world to the white house this week and he should make the decision himself about whether or not we should be banning travel. ban it for all countries. ban it for the u.s. what works? >> some countries have already done it. air france and british air both said nope. we're not going to do it. >> a bunch of african countries have as well. >> giving you something to think about today. 12 minutes before the top of the hour. coming up, debra messing is here talking about her new role and believe it or not, it isn't that much different than real life. good morning to you. she'll be messing with us.
