Indianapolis can very well be one of if not the best viewings of the total Solar Eclipse across the u. S. Where else would also be nice . Most likely northern new england. States like maine, vermont, New Hampshire we also have a front sliding its way eastward and how fast that front progresses is going to show areas where we will have shrouded cloud cover from arkansas all be up to the midwest. Down south is the spot we are watching very carefully the lone star state. We have the potential for a lojack of stratus clouds. That could potentially obscure the view altogether of the total Solar Eclipse for millions. Dallas down to eagle pass for classing many clouds that most spots in the midwest and northeast. Its going to be at 91 coverage of the sun by the moon at the peak. We are having a Great Eclipse festival from 10 00 a. M. Until 5 00 p. M. The main activity shall be from 1 00 a. M. To 5 00 p. M. Armada eclipse is at 2 15 p. M. And goes until 4 30 6 00 p. M. But a solar telescopes on the lawn. Well also of course have a dj. Here where we are with 91 the sunblock is not going to be much of a drop in brightness the sun is incredibly bright that until it goes down to almost nothing showing behind the moon it still looks like a normal day. Jon wow. What do you tell people about safety . There are people who do not know the right way to look at and eclipse. Great question. One of the best things we can do the museum field is let people know it is never safe to observe a partial Solar Eclipse directly. It is more dangerous as less of the sun is visible it may be less painful to look at the sun but it can still do eye damage. So, portly their Implantable Site nowadays the eclipse the glasses are the safest way to do it. And allow you to observe the partial eclipse directly. Jon im told nasa is saying be careful with their smart phones because you can burn the electronics and the lens if you pointed at the eclipse. Yes pay be very careful if you want to hold this of your camera lens thats probably safe way to do that do not aim your camera directly at the sun without protection it could fry out your camera. Jon it is my understanding eclipse got you excited enough about your career that you gave up another pursuits to become a planetarium director. Affect yes its funny how things can change your life as going to be a Charles DickensColored Washington and seattle. A total eclipse in the northwest over 40 years ago with such an awesome experience. It was one of the things that made me realize i would have a more fruitful career going into public astronomy education. Which has been my career since the 80s. Jon you have to wonder about how many little kids are going to follow in your footsteps and get into the astronomy business just because of what happens tomorrow. And youre in the astronomy education business there is a lot of managing expectations about astronomy events. And Meteor Shower is interesting. Going be sitting there for hours in the middle the night looking for streaks of light. On the other hand a total Solar Eclipse will far exceed any expectation you have for the event.
