the answer was resounding yes. we heard personal stories why they are backing donald trump. it comes down to the border. the fentanyl crisis and they had a lot of over doses in their family. the former president trump said this is the beginning of the primaries looking forward. he said that nikki haley, it's time to drop out. but she has no plans of doing that. not running for second place and said this is not a coronation. trump was strong on the stage with tim scott and vivek ramaswamy and other big names. trump is talking about who he will pick for vice-president am people trickled out but the mood was electric. back to you. >> thanks. >> brian at nikki haley's campaign headquarters. she gave a big speech tonight that didn't sit that well with the winner in new hampshire the former president trump. >> no it did not. the room at the headquarters cleared out at 9 o'clock after nikki haley gave her speech. if the message after iowa was this is a two-person race, the message for nikki haley is this race is not over. she said new hampshire is first and not last. she said we got closes to half the vote and there are still a dozen states left. we are moving up. in terms of what is next, she said they are ready for south carolina and the campaign has a rally tomorrow night. they put $4 million in ads. she said that south carolina knows her and trump's attacks there won't stick because he was a 2-time confirmation and they know the truth about what she's done. in terms of what happens, they hedged their bets in south carolina. the campaign sent out a memo saying they is their eyes on the super tuesday. i think 11 of 16 states on super tuesday are open primaries and they feel like that is fertile ground for their campaign. she did well with independents. she said she is the better candidate to beat president biden and went after former president trump in two ways. one, about his age. she went after him saying look, donald trump said he can beat me in a mental competency test. then prove it by debating me on the stage. we have been going back and forth what the haley campaign would do in terms of how they would spin this into a win. they gave us the margin. they said we got close to half. that's good enough in their mind. what is interesting accident you saw all of those folks at trump's rally like senator tim scott. haley said those folks represent the political class. she is going into south carolina saying i am for the people. those folks are with donald trump and they don't like me because i held them to account. we will see if that sticks tomorrow at her rally. >> they turned the heat on for you guys. >> yes, we were freezing here. >> these are trends i am seeing across the state. the last time we talked about the most populated areas in the southern part of the state. the more rural areas. in iowa 8 days ago we talked about the counties for obama. that flipped dramatically for donald trump. this county in the north is rural. they got more than half of the votes. this was plus 17 for obama. flipped to plus 9 for trump. that's a 27 point swing in one election. let's pop down here. this county just changed. this was a trump county in red. it flipped to nikki haley in orange. a lot of votes out still with only 32% of the vote counted. fewer people live up here. this is where nikki haley is doing the best. 8 years ago this is where john kasich did the best for his campaign. towns along the connecticut river. further in the count you find plymouth state college. and nikki haley has 8.6 lead. hang on to that thought. i will try to do something. take you back on iowa. this is where we were. 99 counties. 98 for trump. 1 for nikki haley. that was right here. this is the university of iowa. why bring that up now? >> we are still watching. come on, we are all still watching you guys. we are here with the new hampshire republicans hosting this party here. talking to party officials, when nikki haley gave her speech it was 6% the margin for donald trump. these officials talked to me and the new hampshire college republicans said this will be closer to 10 to 12%. you look at the numbers now that's what we are seeing 81% reporting. 12% is a different margin than when nikki haley took to the stage. when you talk to the voters here on fox news nation throughout the night. they said 2 things can be true at once. 1, donald trump won overwhelmingly. no one has won iowa and new hampshire without winning the nomination. they believe nikki haley will continue. we know a lot of independents and democrats who crossed over to vote for nikki haley. this is a republican primary. this is how new hampshire does its business. it's frustrating for republicans. on ward to south carolina. no matter what people say it was a big night for donald trump. >> senator smith has been wiving the issues that propelleded the former president to victory. >> as far as the top issues for voters. the top issue is immigration for voters on the ground. this was a bigger issue in new hampshire than in iowa. this looked like 41% on the ground. 42% of voters said this is a top issue for them. of those voters, donald trump wins. this is a winning issue for him. 73% of voters who said that was the top issue cast their ballot for donald trump. on the economy the second biggest issue in new hampshire. trump still wins on this issue for people concerned about the future of their family's economic health. by a smaller margin over nikki haley. the others. foreign policy and abortion they are in the single digits. taking a look at fossile fuels. the former president talked about it in his speech and said drill, baby drill. we asked republican voters whether they want to expand productions of fossil fuels. a majority favor doing that. they voted for donald trump. 63% put their support behind him. the views on abortion in new hampshire. the voters that want to see abortion legal most of the time, 54%. this is what played out. 54% behind nikki haley and 40% for donald trump. if they wanted to see abortion illegal some of the time, look at that. almost 3/4th of that vote went to donald trump. these are some of the big issue on the ground. clearly shows that donald trump is campaigning on winning. in iowa and in this case in new hampshire. back to you. >> thank you. 70% of haley's voters were not registered republicans. yet the former president is winning by 11.5% at this hour. >> yes. a lot of cross over in terms of voters who voted in the republican primary who were independents. the count i saw earlier who crossed over was 4,000 did it by the october deadline. there is a significant amount of votes coming from those areas for nikki haley. >> if there any state that would have worked well for nikki haley this is it. what happens next? >> absolutely. >> let her do south carolina. >> brit hume? >> you compare the results in the 2 parties. there was a warning for the republicans. look at the democratic side. joe biden, feeble and senile not up to the job. they rally behind him. >> and the write in. half-baked write in and he prevails overwhelmingly. that's a sign of a party that understands power and knows how to hold on to it. the republicans are divided. trump effective incumbent but has to fend off the challenge here. a big win tonight. but it's not the kind of thing you expect the incumbent to get. the divisions in the party are clear. it's not clear that many of the voters who supported nikki haley tonight, some brought in from the independents, will support trump in the general election. there is a weakness there on the republican side with the divisions in the party. >> trey goudy, talk about south carolina. could nikki haley go to south carolina and park herself there for a month and change this? >> i don't think so. they love nikki haley but they won't vote for her. people in south carolina love tim scott and tim scott would not win over donald trump. why not pivot to the general election in tone and issue. why talk about what dress someone is wearing and why talk about the 2020 election. talk about november! >> yes. sha shannon, it struck me that way as well. he could have ignored nikki haley's speech. it's powerful to act like it didn't happen. i had a big win. he may turn another page tomorrow. he does have to win over voters that are not in his category. >> he does. 8 out of 10 of haley voters say they won't vote for him in the general election. do you close the gap or make fun of a dress? haley voters told me 2 main issues going with her. they didn't like his chaos and think he is better in the general election. what about policies do you like? they didn't have an answer. it was just they didn't like trump. he's got to do things to reach them. >> if you are the white house or the biden campaign do you think of different things. bill clinton took newt gingrich's ideas in 1996 and did that. something on the border this white house is doing? >> they are trying to do. they said mexico is helping us on fentanyl. biden officials are going to mexico in 3 weeks. if i were president trump i would go to the border this week and say i hear you and this is what i would do. president trump said something else is true and i think the white house would consider. he said to nikki haley you think they won't come after you? if you became the nominee you would be targeted. the republican voters think that's true. we want you to fight for us and make sure that doesn't happen to us as well. >> they are shaking up the campaign in the biden team. bringing a woman out of the white house to delaware to it work on the campaign. when you look at the challenge that lies before him now. they appear to want to run against trump. they are happy with this match up. does he pivot some of these things? >> he would be wise to do so. he would be wise to make a deal for republicans to get ukraine funding and mach a deal with the republicans. from the negotiations on key policy points that are subtle that you don't hear about every day but matter, the white house is resisting on those things. it's crazy. this is a very strange election and has been all along. it's an odd election in which each party's candidate is the other party's best hope. that's where we are. >> we will have many months of that. >> i know we are. >> it's going to be maybe the ugliest election every. do you think?
